Product Sourcing:
When it comes to sourcing a product for review, I will usually either purchase and item personally or reach out to a supplier requesting a sample for review. Many suppliers are supportive if they are confident in their product, appreciating the value of greater exposure.
Any sponsored videos (paid for reviews) are clearly stated as such so there can be no misunderstanding.
Sometimes a supplier will provide a link to the product or the supplier which I am happy to include in the description. Sometimes I will be provided with an affiliate link so I can earn a commission on sales and this helps to support channel costs but never at the expense of an honest review. There is no cost to you and in some cases discounts can be obtained via the link or via an included code.
If a product I have reviewed is available from Amazon I will often include an Amazon link in the description. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Hey Jon - I'm a 67 yo female in the US and have been watching your videos for a while. You already gave me the idea to put a kit like this together. I watched other videos to find out the best tools so that I have what I need when I need it. Many of the tools are the same ones that you selected. I have other kits for different things but has been so helpful.
That's great to hear! Thank you for the feedback.
Just a quick word of advice on the voltage detector. Never rely on the battery level indicator. Test it on something you know is live then use it to check the thing you're working on. Once it shows that the thing is dead, go back to your known source and confirm the detector still works. I teach apprentices and we drum this into them. TEST-USE-TEST 😁
Great advice - thanks for sharing 👍
I hope you don’t teach apprentice’s that, you should never use a non contact detector to prove dead. Test-use-test is standard but it should be with an approved voltage indicator (VAT in Europe) and ideally a proving box.
@@hotdeal3156 they use them as an additional layer of safety.
Isolate-volt stick on the case-locate the electrical connections-approved tester on the electrical connections.
But to Jon's point it's certainly better than nothing for a quick DIY job.
What I like about your videos in particular is how naturally descriptive you are compared with other RUclipsrs. As a blind person I rely on description so that I know what the presenter is talking about; and your natural, conversational way of doing it is an example to most others whom I have found appallingly lazy and lacking in that department. For me, this makes your presentations not only helpful but easy to listen to.
That Wera kit works so well for so many situations. I would suggest adding some work gloves, eye protection, dust mask, and ear plugs. Don't forget safety!
Good point - thanks for the suggestions
Nail set/punch to remove door pins. 5n1 painters tool would be advised for scraping, spreading fillers and prying things into and out of place, chiselling or even digging. Cyanoacrylate superglue a couple feet of strong fine wire. A bubble Level. You have room for all of these items.
Great add on !! 👍✌️
Nice
Another great one Jon, although my kit is smaller…I keep a smart phone in my pocket, whip it out to call my mate who turns up in a van full of real tools and gear for any eventuality 👍🏼
🤣
Hahaha! Brilliant!
Subscribed. I just said to my wife, "This guy is going to cost me a lot of money!" Great products here.
Oh yeah, join the club! 😂
@@hoot7588 haha
Depends on how you look at it: You could just buy tool after tool after tool, or watch his vid, buy that tool and you might never have to buy again.
@@hatchet646 Thanks. I'm pacing myself like you suggested!
Great mix of tools in the kit.
One thing I always feel like us Americans take for granted is the level of freedom we enjoy that we don't e even think about. Specifically how it's legal to carry a knife in most places of the USA. Its crazy that the blade on a multi tool leatherman can get you in trouble. There are cities which have laws which prohibit the carrying of certain types of knives, but generally speaking youbwont be going to jail for simply carrying a utility knife that you use at work and forgot you have it in your pocket or something. In CA, fix blade knives can be open carried legally as long as you have it exposed and carried in a certain way.
I saw a prank video of a lad who took out a switch blade in front of some cops somewhere in England in a subway station and he got tackled to the ground by the two police that was near him. Ends up it was a switch blade comb and he caught a swift lecturing from the leos. The tolerance for even knives is paper thin by the Leo's. Seeing that makes me appreciate the freedoms we have in the USA 🇺🇸.
As a proud Brit now living in the states, I look forward to your videos each week as a a dose of home as well as gadget glory - thanks for this one Jon, been wanting one like this for a while.
I have the saw handle kit and it is awesome, and so surprisingly cheap to find. I would include:
-Hand drill with space in handle for drill bits (I can get 3-4 in mine, depending on size.
-EDC fans utility knife, which comes with a saw blade and a good size multitool style blade on the side that swing out, as well as a double ended, ball joint 1/4 inch screwdriver head for about $15,
- Klein tools awesome screw driver socket sets that have bits in the handle, telescoping driver length and reversible colour coded sockets that slide over the screwdriver blade. Available in stubby (with 2 reversible socket heads(3/8 +11/32 & 5/16 +1/4) and 6 bits in the handle, or full size with and extra reversible socket head (1/2 +7/16) and 12 bits in the handle - they’re a much cheaper option to the Wera set
Some great feedback here. Thanks for sharing 👍
that grip for the saw blades! where has that been all my life! 😂
As soon as I saw the couple sets of knipex in the thumbnail I knew this would be a good one
hard to beat 👍
Just found this video and I believe this is one of the best tool kits that’s been put together. I’m gonna make a similar one up
Wow Jon...
This is the new bench mark for the ULTIMATE tool kit .
Just wow...
Superb video.
Thank you - good to know it was well received 👍
Add to set. A small cordless screwdriver and hexagon drill bits for it.
A soldering iron or a lighter at least.
And fill up the free space with hardware.
A little wire...
Sanding paper.
Replace the fluke with a Mini multimeter.
Great video Jon. I already suffer from compulsive tool purchase disorder 🤣. But have literally just ordered two of the items on your list!! 🤭 Keep up the good work. Thank you.
Such a well thought out kit. I’ll be updating mine after watching this.
Four more things I keep in my kit:
1. 20’ roll of Forj: Thermoplastic tape (for temporarily repairing broken odd shaped items)
2. Surgical alligator forceps 5"-6" (bc I always drop small screws into tight spaces)
3. Broken screw extractor set (for kits with a cordless drill/driver)
4. 4140 Pry Bar Removal Tool (it’s for interior car panel removal, but has been a life saver for me so many times).
I'll check these out, thanks for the feedback
Ha, I was just putting together a grab and go kit today. Great timing.
Perfect!
Likewise, yesterday I fixed up my grab n go drill kit!
Wow that's a complete toolkit that even MacGyver would be proud.
Absolutely brilliant and my bank manager should thank you! 👍👍
Fantastic kit.
For fun, I've been putting together what I call the "Bilbo Baggins Burgle Bag," which includes all sorts of tools needed for minor repairs and for potentially getting into and out of things (no criminality intended, of course).
It includes many of the same tools (or analogous), with the addition of a few things like a small lockpick kit, a silcock key, a "janitor" key (for accessing stall doors and soap, toilet paper, and paper towel dispensers), a handcuff key, an Allen key set, and a few other bits and bobs.
You have some great suggestions here that I will definitely be adding to the kit.
Cheers!
Never thought of some of those things like a janitor key
Any suggestions on a driver and bit?
Thanks for the ideas provided. The only things I'd miss are an hand drill and center punch or a chisel. Three always come in handy and don't add ( much} to the bulk.
I wanted a drill in here but might look at a separate bag for that in the future
I actually built a kit very similar to this using Wera and Knipex tools with the same concept in mind. Your's takes it to the next level, inspiration for sure 👍🏻
This kit is just so well thought out. I usually don’t use tools as much right now because am a truck driver but after I retire several years from now will have unlimited free time and get to experience home life again and realize I probably could put this kit to use so will try and slowly build it. 😀
Fancy lunchbox you got there Jon
lol ye, nice bag though ;)
A tad expensive for my budget but possibly one of the best thought out & carefully designed grab'n'go tool kits I've ever seen. Fantastic stuff. 😃
As a hospital maintenance man this is a great set up for pretty much anyone. The tray would come super handy. Great content as usual.
I go through my grab and go tool bag every few years. It tends to get heavy, but honestly having full size tools is worth it imo. That does look like a set of tools you could be proud of.
I was really happy with the finished selection 👍
Awesome kit Jon. Cannot fault any choice, tape measure is a stroke of genius. Great to be finally presented with a UK RUclipsr doing an EDC! I’ll be buying your suggestions, thanks!
Thank you 🙏
Always fun go watch! Thank you John!
Brilliant choice
Another great video that I watch for ideas. When visiting my mother, I used to take my crammed Stanley cantilever toolbox weighing in at around 40 lbs, from which I can carry out most DIY jobs that don’t need specialist tools, but far too heavy to lug about into and out of my car, so I put together a comprehensive tool kit which is my go to quick grab bag which I take with me in case it’s needed when visiting family or away for a weekend, using a Maxpedition Beefy. Kitted out it weighs around 3 lbs, and additionally to the array of tools inside, I carry a pair of gloves kept in place by the Molle straps on the back.
This is exactly what this was for too. I'm going to add some rubber gloves initially - thanks for the feedback
This is great. Working on a tool kit. This was great. Love the saw tool.
Sweet kit ❤
amazing kit, thanks Jon
Brilliant!
Your presentations are always outstanding!
Great kit. Thanks!
Superb ideas and kit Jon, many thanks 👌💯
Beautifully put together kit 👍😊
One other thing I carry in my “Mr Fix-it” tool kit is a soldering iron. It’s a regular main powered iron, but have wondered about swapping to a gas powered one. Especially useful when you’re working outside.
wonderfull kit of nice tools.
That’s a cool little kit. Thanks for the great video.
Great choices as always
Love that rachet driver
Outstanding as always, thanks Jon. Cheers from Canada.
Absolutely brilliant.
Just ordered this list up. I carry a ton of stuff for work, but knowing I'll have a portable "go bag" in my car makes me feel a lot better. THANK YOU for putting this all together!
Great kit!
We just got our RV van and I was trying to put a tool kit together. Perfect timing! Thanks so much. I'll be buying everything you recommended.
One of the best kits you’ve put together imo, very practical, compact and beautiful to look at Great job 👍
Absolutely top shelf, sir. Everything you need, nothing you don’t. Well designed and laid out. No wasted space or weight. Outstanding!
Absolutely love this, you seem to have more functionality than I have in my very large tool kit!!
Hi Jon, I love your videos, and your way of explaining anything clearly and precisely. Thank you for being such a lovely source of information!
Another great kit!
I would throw in a few pairs of heavy duty orange grip nitril gloves - tougher the blue medical types but still tactile. Easier than trying to scrub grease and gunk off your hands after a job! Plus handy for *those* pluming jobs 😂
Nice tool kit. 👍
Very nice kit. I put together something similar with many of the same tools using a Veto ProPac bag. Very handy to drag around depending on what I am planning to work on, I may swap a few things out (like if I plan on installing outlets I'd add wire strippers, connectors, a plug tester, and a real voltage tester). Only drawback to a kit this great is cost- When I look at what I've put into this kit I realize it gets expensive really quickly especially if you add Wera, Knipex, Fluke and Gedore tools....of course, these tools are actually a pleasure to have in my hand so it's worth it to me personally.
Nice tool kit! You get bonus points for pronouncing knipex correctly. 😁
Not everyone does!
@@JonGadget : I know. Many english speaking people say nipex, and when I point out that it is incorrect, they tell me I am wrong and to sod off. 🙄
Beautiful & Brilliant Overview. Thank you 🙏
Always interesting and informative. With some good ideas and products.
That was a trully amazing video, from beginning to end. Great kit , great job as always!! Never a dull moment with JG channel...
Really kind - thank you!
This is an awesome thought out video! My favorite 2 are the toolan hacksaw and the precision screwdriver😊
beautiful video, congratulations!!!!! perfect explanation!!!!!
The best kit yet I have seen, will be also be great for my motorbike as its comprehensive compact and portable
In re : compact tool kits , get a Warrington hammer( AKA Crosspien ) , also pincers , and a piece of scrap leather to protect surfaces in cases of nail pulling !
My favorite video you've done so far! Thanks for the great ideas!
Great 👍
Wow. This just great. You’ve inspired me to come up with a compact tool kit.
I use the Miller KS1s everyday at work, love em!
Great video! I like the flashlight you picked.
Very, very nice kit!
thank you
Fantastic!
Great kit
Excellent content and video production! Very conscientious!
Some useful ideas in here. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Some clever products that I doesn't knew. Maybe you can add WD40 precision pen, disposable gloves, punch tool and small box of spare nails and bolts
Excellent video, which inspired me to set up a toolkit for the car! Thanks
This video is ridiculously great. As a minimalist that is also a person that likes to always be prepared with every tool and gizmo, this one hit hard for me. While my kits are already compact and have every essential, he still managed to give me more ideas and shown me a few more tools and struck a to apply to my game. As always, thank you sir!
Great choices. I appreciate it.
I like your channel.
Awesome Kit Jon. Definitely need to make my current kit smaller!
Very nice. Those have to be the most hard core scissors I've ever seen.
surprisingly useful
gold! thank you!
Excellent
Excellent video. Still building my travel tool kit and there are some excellent products you mentioned here. One thing I would add to any kit are zip ties or even velcro ties. They take up little space and have many uses for unexpected situations. Plus one on the light. I have a similar setup with wuben light that also works head head band.
This channel is going to bankrupt me 😂
😬
For utility knife you should check out the Milwaukee 6 in 1 fast back.
Thank you Jonathan, this is the absolute most comprehensive tool kit in a compact bag! I can only imagine the research it took to accomplish this. Thanks again!
PS I really like the Metmo Pocket Drive and will order one!
Amazing kit! I'm creating my own portable kit and I'll definitely use some of your ideas on mine. The only extra thing I'm adding to my kit is some spare bolts, screws and nails, and a pencil
This is brilliant, Jon. You've obviously done your research and you're a man after my own heart, I love high quality gear and gadgets. Maybe you should start putting these kits together and selling them, you've done all the work and I have complete confidence in your opinion. I would buy one! Thanks a bunch, carry on!
Cool kit)
Absolutely brilliant. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd ever have a genuine need for something like this, as I have a full-sized took kit at home and one in the car, but this is just too cool...I'm going to build one just for the fun of it!!
Jon thanks for posting this tool pouch from leatherman looks ideal I found the option I was using to bulky same issues with the roring fire role my vanquest & maxpidition pouches a no go as well this is a really good option and in the future am getting one I've simlar tools and always find one tool that's to bulky like knipex bolt cutters but dont want to down size
i once worked for a company that distributed Tengtools, used in garages etc. but they also have / had really small ratchets etc. could be worth a while to look at. it is Very, very, very strong. Mini ratchet still working well after 24 years.
Interesting, this is 90% identical to my portable tool kit. 👍🏼good stuff!
Brilliant thanks
Great video! While I don't think I have any exact kit as yours, as you get pretty much in the details that are not relevant for me, I do have some kits inspired by yours and I have bought some products from your links as I have never knew I needed them before. From the producst I have found from your videos, I think the RovyVon A8 Gen4 is my favorite. I also have the A28 but the size of the A8 is just impressive. Thank you for your videos and I am wishing you all the best.
Thanks for the feedback which is great to hear - the A8 is a brilliant light I still carry one or the A4 Ti Pro (just for looks) and wouldn't be without.
Thanks!
Informative and enjoyable video as always. Fantastic choice for a tool bag. Over time we all have a tendancy to add stuff. I see there is still some room inside the main compartment. Adding tools, bits and pieces, etc is not an issue if you stick with that bag. As the size of the kit can't outgrow it's purpose. When you run out of space re-evaluate it's contents. Your garage probably has the "big" tools you can grab for specific jobs, when this kit won't cut it.
Brilliant.
Nice bag for sure - perhaps a bit too deep for the length and width of the kit but the "pile" of tools is not unmanageable. I have a backpack made by Dewalt that is super thin, opens up completely to lay flat so you end up with access to 2 sets of pockets on each side of different sizes and types. It allows me to carry full size tools including a full size hammer. I really do like the tray that comes with the bag, I have a couple magnetic trays in my box but this looks like a great option or addition.
Also I noticed that the Letherman Adapt tool bag - it sure looks very nice for sure - but - I can't help but notice it looks exactly like a lunchbox that I have that I have been using to keep some electronic components in. I got it for about $15 and the Leatherman is $69 so that is a tough one to swallow. I am sure the Leatherman material would be more durable but I have been using this lunchbox for several years and for my application it has held up great.
However - I will say that to get a kit like this it can often be worth a little extra. Buy once, cry once is not quite the right saying here, but it is in the right spirit as it is sometimes better to look at the long term value of the items you are buying than the individual purchase price. In the end an extra $50 can be made up - I can skip a few lunches, etc...
Also I have been wanting to get one of those Whia toolsets but they are a bit expensive (about $80 last time I checked) but they do hold a good 80% or more of any bits or sockets you commonly need - as long as you only need SAE or metric!
And that Toolan brand saw handle that you showed - that thing looks brilliant! Got to get one. I have a folding saw but it only takes it's own blades. That and the Miller scissors - I followed your link and I will be buying each of these items. That and I might also consider the Hoto screwdriver. Thanks!
Great video - nice example of a well done portable toolset. I am watching videos like this because I am working on a tool organization project for work and I want to do it great - professional, clean, organized, safe, durable, etc... Cheers!
Thanks for the great feedback - much appreciated 👍
This is such a brilliant video Jon, and it's like looking into a mirror. I recently purchased the Wera Tool Check Plus, a superb addition to my grab-and-go tool kit. It is clever and lightweight design sold me immediately! I also have the Knipex Water Pump Pliers, Plier Wrench and Super Snips, but those Bolt Cutters are now on my list! I'll vouch for those Miller Scissors. I've had them for some time, and they are much better than the Klein Scissors. All my gear is snuggly held inside an Aer Slim Pouch X-Pac I picked up in the USA last year. I do like that Metmo Pocket Driver... I feel my wallet getting lighter as I type this!
Clever👍I am working on different set up, for travel purpose, I will pick up some of your idea.👍🙏
Great video with a lot of good tools I consider for my own kit. And answering your question for additional tools, here are three from mine which I haven't seen in yours: A small level, some wire and a laser measuring tool for when you need more than three meters.
