- Not a perfect list but just some gear I've built up in my 4wd over the past couple of years, always adding to it.

Apologies for the camera work in some of it (me not being in the frame properly), always a bit of a guessing game filming yourself. Also, I often carry two TRED recovery tracks which I forgot to mention.

Great video mate. I don't have as much as you but slowly getting things and putting them in my box on the back of the ute. Got the basics so better then nothing out in the Bush.

Awesome vid Tyler.
From a mechanics point of view - a small mix of nuts, bolts and screws are worth keeping. Everyone can put in a bolt or screw eg I carry an oil filter box full of m6, m8, m10, m12, a few self tappers which covers most on a Jap 4wd or any accessories fitted. Some things just cant be secured with cable ties, tie wire, etc.
1l of MultiATF or SynATF(nulon) - will cover 90% of power steering or auto trans oil, and enough to get you moving again on an Auto with a small leak or low level.
Other than that, the only thing I carry is a driveshaft - same on both sides for a 120 Prado. And yes i broke one recently :).

Good Video Tyler... Its amazing how much stuff you can accumulate over time in your truck. I reckon you have it covered.. Mount the fire extinguisher for sure... in the tub. Tools are good but you only need one good kit. Rachet spanners are a must. plus learn common sizes and fittings you have. my Ranger has Torx so I carry a full set. Add a hose clamp tool incase you do a break line. and learn to change a CV... with your following sone one will happily teach you.... Aye fellas 😎 .... but the list goes on.... keep up the good work mate... 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Hi Tyler, thanks for another great vid. My trouble is I take so much stuff I forget what I've got or where it is! My only suggestion is to throw in a couple of pairs of safety glasses for the chainsaw. They're cheap enough & easy to pack. You don't get second chances with eye injuries, especially when something happens in a remote location. Keep up the great work. Regards Rob

Same as I carry. Near enough anyway. Some extras I have on board is a ruck sack with basic survival gear / food. It lives in the cabin so it can be grabbed fast (As in a grass fire etc). That is the old boy scout in me. A thunder box dunny, Big SS pot for boiling bath water (Or crabs etc), Small jump starter, Bush Machete, Cordless drill and Bits, Stanley Wonder pry bar, Flair kit(out of date marine from the tinny) Walking poles , Hand compass and ranger pace beads. If ever I have to walk out with no 4x4. Oh, And a hand GPS. As for hand tools, I lightened that right up to the bare minimum of mechanics tools, My axe is a fiskars X17, Much lighter but will split wooly hardwood, My Hack saw is a single hand draw saw handle. It gets confounding when for everything you put in, Something has to come out. Also depends on the trip I guess but hey that's half the fun hey?

Spot on with the "what I got", and it's fairly comprehensive. I'm a sparky and I found the el cheapo compressors were slow and wanted to melt the fuse connections if not duty cycling enough. My advice is to buy the ARB twin compressor with the receiver (Aluminium cylinder) in the case (AU$850). I tell you what it's as fast as the servo and 100% duty cycle. Which means an air up episode is a mere 10min stop. Expensive I know but if that one you have karks it, your possibly up for 4 new tyres!!!

Same here, I've been looking forward to it for the last few months. We went down for a quick trip about 3 weeks ago for 4 days. Ended up snowing. So awesome driving in the snow, up in the High country.
We would love to get down there in the snow at some stage!
I recommend a large rubber mallet ($10 Bunnings) for large tent pegs in hard surfaces. Once you use it you be amazed at the added safety, as steel on steel can be unpredictably dangerous whereas the rubber on steel there is little or no deflection.

If you use Google Maps as additional/back up GPS mapping, you can download regions of the maps to your phone to use offline. It works a treat when you have no mobile signal.

Id add some toilet paper. Your misses will thank you. Baby wipes are also great.
Rather than buy First aid kits, Buy the bits you need, you end up with a much better kit. Ebay/web is great for First aid supplies.
A stubby holder in the front helps keep drinks cool in summer and warm in winter.
Couple of Extra Large bin bags. If your super muddy they make great seat covers, Average raincoats and im sure 100's of other uses.
Probably not as important in the days of mobile phones but i usually carry a crossword/puzzle book and pencil, Just in case of bad traffic.
For those without dual batteries (or good Samaritans), Jumper leads, Surprising how few people these days carry them.
@Greg Jackman I just googled a First aid kit supplier (like St johns) and see what there Kits contain.

Hey mate, thanks for the tips! Yep I've always got toilet paper in the car in the second blue box (just didn't bother mentioning it) and got big rubbish bags in the kitchen box. Other things sound good! I was actually looking at the little jump starter batteries the other day so may end up getting one of them instead of jumper leads but I'll definitely end up with one or the other. Cheers!
@@TylerThompson90 See others have filled you in on the self starters, so I'll just comment that jumper leads not much good if you are the only one around and/or your vehicle is in a difficult position where the leads are not long enough.

Great equipment, very prepared. Would suggest to replace the chain saw for a reciprocating saw with 9 inch wood and metal blades. You cut branches like butter cheaper to maintain battery operated. Also if any body parts break you can chop them off.

Great little video Tyler. One thing that I thinks worth mentioning is a ‘power pack’ or ‘jump starter’’, especially if you’re solo traveling. I just purchased the new ARB one. It has numerous functions, light, usb, cigarette port and of course the actual jump start capability.

Good vid Tyler. Can I make a suggestion about ‘in cabin’ gear? Get your tools out of the cab and fasten the fire extinguisher ASAP.
Any truckie will tell you that you can survive a rollover in a modern vehicle. It’s the gear flying around the cab that does the damage.
Thanks mate! I've got the tools in a zip lock bag under the seat tied up and secured now so shouldn't be going anywhere, still need to do something with the fire extinguisher though! Cheers!
I'd be grabbing a CV shaft just in case. With the tools you have you'd be able to change it even with limited knowledge. Good thing about the D23 is the shaft is the same left and right so you only have to carry one spare. In my Triton they're different so I carry one for each side.
Hey mate, yeah I was debating this the other day with myself whether to carry one or not, I checked at the dealership and they said they were the same size on both sides. Just sucks they are $430 haha but definitely worth carrying.

Great video mate. I'm wondering about what cam gear you have as well. And me and my wife were wondering if you would do a video on what food you generally pack? You guys seem to eat quite healthily and go for a bit of time each trip. Not a breakdown on every meal or anything just the basics for some ideas would be awesome. Keep up the good work mate. Pack a spare utility/fan belt and a bottle of diff oil & motor oil (1lit)... remember, even if you cannot swop a part or a belt... some good fellow 4wdriver may come along the track and help you out if you are in a difficult spot...
You have putty to fix holes, but no oil to top it up with.

Very interest video Tyler thanks for sharing with us. When I last spoke to you, I mentioned my trip to VHC with my son and son in-law leaving Oran Park 18th Jan for two weeks touring. We are starting off at Dogman Hut camping area and follow your previous trip.
Have you got a trip route in mind , what tracks and areas your looking to go to ?
Thanks mate! We are leaving the first week of January for the high country and then starting the great ocean road in the middle of January so don't think we will be there at the same time. Still working out a route but looking at possibly coming in at Jindabyne and heading down towards Mackillops Bridge area and doing some tracks around there and then pretty much working our way through the middle to finish over in Mansfield.
Yeah there is some nice camping spots down The Barry Way from Jindabyne on the Snowy River. My son was 2 for his first camping trip there, he is 20 now and is so looking forward to this trip. We did the Great Ocean Rd in 2000 and loved it , have to get back there one day. Anyways have a safe trip and look forward to your next video, cheers.

Hey mate, just got it at the Stihl shop where I got the chainsaw/chainsaw case etc. 1L plastic container, works well!
Awesome vid mate, really enjoying your content and the fact you're got a NP300! Have you considered putting a single drawer in the tub? That's what I'm about to do and hoping to fit basically everything you have in the drawer.
One thing I would suggest is get a good thick wide piece of timber as a plate for your jack 👍 will work wonders on uneven ground, mud, sand etc

@@TylerThompson90 An old nylon cutting board will work in a pinch if you can't lay your hands on a lump of plywood. Be careful with drawers. Some are shallow making it difficult to store that item that is just a little too tall and drawers can be really heavy too.

Yeah its always hard to pack everything you want/need but not overload the car haha
What is the minimum break strength of that snatch strap. As a rule of thumb the minimum break strength shouldn't be more than 2-3 times the gvm of your car
I'd have to double check mate but from memory somewhere around the 10 thousand kg mark so fits in that 2-3 times the weight of the car
any plans on doing a subscriber meet whilst in vic?
Haven't organised anything yet, a couple of people have mentioned they would be keen to go for a drive but just need to work out all my plans first. We are pretty last minute/make it up as we go haha

Yeah just hard with space, my car never burns any oil/coolant so no need for top ups but would be a good idea to carry some spare anyways
