Luke is a lot more humble than people give him credit for. If he’s hitting it too hard on the back end of a piece it’s probably not to showboat. From what I’ve seen he does everything in training with good intentions for himself and his teammates. Give him the benefit of the doubt. He deserves it. Looks like he made a mistake. Rich corrected it. Just a coach looking out for his athletes and frustrated by some redundancy in his effort to do so. Commonplace in sport

I agree with Froning. There are many, many positives with CrossFit. The positives far outweigh the negatives... But one thing I have noticed in my 13 years of doing this wonderful sport... It can really bring out the ego in people... Sometimes for the better, but often for the worse. People get so hung up on being the fastest or lifting the most. Their technique goes to shit and they start cutting corners on every rep just to "win". Not good. Intensity without quality is worthless. That's why Rich was one of the best champs ever... Pretty much no matter how tired he got... His reps were still excellent.

If you're trying to build team, calling out an individual publicly embarrasses that person, fosters resentment, and can cause other members of the team to think of the person as a "s-bird". If that person creates the situation publicly or involves other members of the team, then 100% call them on it or your authority will be undermined.

Now not everyone may be aware but that is why gym owners need to educate people and be strict in the enforcement of these rules to preserve the longevity of the gym equipment. It is crazy how expensive little items are and if the owners do not have piles of cash just laying around they inevitably have to eat that cost or raise our monthly dues. Good informational and opinion piece about the Mayhem video. I would just like to respectfully disagree about your “toxic environment” comment. Individuals behave in a variety of ways and in a free society we don’t try to manage “environments” or decide ahead of time what is “toxic” for a group. I respect each individual to decide whether he or she agrees with Parker’s behavior or not and whether or not to emulate it. This isn’t kindergarten. Now that is a separate issue from the coach or gym owner’s right to make rules and expel those who do not follow the rules-whether it concerns chalk or how to safely execute a workout. But to claim that Parker is not allowed to behave in a certain way because it is “toxic” is to claim a) you define “toxic” for a whole group and b) that implicitly everyone has to agree with that definition and agrees that everyone else must be “protected” from it. That seems to be a dangerous proposition.

When these companies (not just Mayhem) sell their training do they sell the methodology with it? OR do you just get the workout. In a fully practical sense, I disagree with Froning that "you'll get injured" sprinting the last bit of a 200m repeat (Luke was most definitely not at a full sprint pace, and not even the entire distance, and running on an air runner is not the same as ground/track). A high percentage effort run on a final repeat can actually be a helpful indicator of your capacity for further sessions. On the other hand, we don't know his behavior the last week or so that Froning references, so may have just been Froning's judgement to create a teachable moment.

Also got to keep in mind, this guy has won numerous championships as a leader. Froning knows what it takes to win and knows how to run a team. While yes, Luke is giving his all, you can harm yourself training this way. Froning has been known to talk about watching your body in training and listening to it and then in competition kicking it into full gear to get the win. Both are great guys and athletes, so I don’t think necessarily anyone is in the foul. Rich is being the coach that he is to help Luke and Luke is trying to push himself to be better.

Like your content.. but Tia is not what you stated.. just saw a video where she actually said.. too much for me at this time, I am scaling. Never do I get the impression from any of the other CF vlogs that they are trying to be a hero in a workout. They are just sharing their workouts. ! And they probably do scold... they just don't want to humiliate the person they are scolding and make it public. Just my take

That’s a good take. And I agree that Tia does not purvey herself as a toxic person.
I have a vendetta against content that isn’t productive. Just here is something loud and silly. So I was referring to Tia and PRVN for that fact.

None of the male CF stars, or really even other female stars, have let their significant other (spouse) be taking credit or making a career or bossing around. IMHO Tia has created a problem, and is unfortunately playing the little lady and taking a backseat in her own show.
