  • Six months after the massacre in Uvalde, TX, on Thanksgiving 2022, a family reconciles the horror and inexplicable cruelty they experienced on May 24th, to what is perceived as normal, traditional behavior during the holidays. It is an emotional paradox most people never have to deal with. I produced this Emmy-nominated piece with the wonderfully talented reporter Bryan Boes at Spectrum News Texas. The brilliant Lakisha Lemons helped with the photography.

Kimberly Mata-Rubio is the definition of a strong woman. She has such a way of words, she’s amazing. I hope she can heal one day.

The way she described how a good day goes - getting those mundane, ordinary things done. That is so to the point. Grief isn't just a hysterical feeling of despair. It's that feeling of not being able to do anything normal because you have this big hole, this huge energy leak inside you, that takes away every sparkle of joy. It takes away the color in your life.
I wish everyone involved a bit of yellow, red and blue, so they can slowly start to make colors again.

I swear to you I’ll never forget these precious children. I’ll proclaim to the end of my life, these cops were pusillanimous.
