"Tell me if this is an anime thing... it almost looks like a different artist" Short answer: Yes it's a different artist.
Long answer: Anime episodes are generally drawn by different key animators who draw the key frames, a clumsy analogy would be like drawing every fifth page of a flip book, and these will be looked over and sometimes edited or redrawn by an animation director who will make sure all these key frames look consistent, and then there are are in-between artists who fill in the motion between key frames. And on top of that, to save time, anime prioritizes some scenes over others. Low movement shots or very quick shots like people standing and talking usually get low priority compared to a dynamic scene with lots of motion like spikes or serves so sometimes the drawings can look a little janky compared to dynamic scenes where a lot of time and attention was put in. Anime artists are criminally underpaid and overworked.

I could be wrong about this, but I think it's also a budget thing. Scenes with a lot of details and frames cost more, in terms of money; that's why in-between scenes where nothing important is happing look more rough, they have to reduce the quality in order to save budget (and time, like you said) for important scenes. :)

i mean it could also be a different artist, but this is neither that, nor a budget thing... this is just how far away obejcts work. when they're further away, the artist is not gonna draw them in full detail, 1. that's just how basic human vision works 2. it saves on resources and time
What you say it's true but not for what she asked. It's a perspective thing, the reason it looks less detailed it's because the characters are further away hence they have to draw them smaller which results in lower detail. The further away you have to draw a character the less detailed is gonna be. If a character is soo far away that his height as a drawing is only 5cm, how are you even going to draw proper eyes, mouth, or just details overall on such a small model?

When characters are not close to the "camera", they are simplified that's normal its for the animation, because less details is faster to draw !
And yes there are multiples artists for one anime too

Being a Tanaka Stan is a package deal, when you Stan Tanaka you Stan Noya, as well as Yamamoto, and maybe Shoyo, if your a Noya Stan you probably Stan Tanaka and Yamamoto too, at least from everything I've seen anyways.

When the panel is zoomed out, it looks different because the drawings aren’t as detailed
yea as an artist were normally taught that things that are closer to the viewer should show more detail than things that are further away its to help make the perspective clearer and to help establish a hiarchy( basically what the viewer eyes are supposed to be focusing on when see the picture). Just some extra information

@@victoriabrowne It's mostly because even in real life, you see less detail when you're further away from people. It's a usual artistic thing to reduce detail when moving away from the subject. It is, however, possible that there are two separate artists for close ups and full body images... but idk.
@@victoriabrowne it's more like for every anime, there may be some differences between titles and studio that are making animations for them, but basically it's better to have very detailed zoom in scenes and less detailed scenes from bigger distance, than "meh" details for all scenes. It's something for something

About the anime style, yes it's common for more zoomed out scenes with more characters to have less detail/take on a more simple style than the more close-up scenes. It's very time-consuming to make scenes with lots of characters very detailed. I like both styles though.
Yes! A lot of anime conventions and techniques emerged from time and budget constraints. The zoomed out shots are less detailed because it’s easier, but it’s also a stylistic thing because a less detailed art shift can convey things like embarrassment

And that is a thing in most animation, but I notice it a lot in anime. You have your key frames/key animation, who you put your A Team animators on because those are the important shots. Then you have your fill-in animators who make frames to tie all the important key frames together.
Sometimes the fill-in animators are not from the same studio...

I usually wait to like a video until after I’ve seen it but by four minutes in, I had to drop the full screen and click the thumbs up. Loving these reactions because it’s so clear you’re into it just as much as us seasoned anime watchers
I didn’t comment this last video, but I absolutely love the “Haikyuu Homies” haha that was so creative. Anyways, Sugawara’s name is pronounced “Suga,” not like “Shuga.” Its kind of like a running joke in the fandom to call Suga the team mom or “Sugamama” and Diachi the team dad as “Dadchi” and you may have seen/will see “Deadchi” which is an inside joke which you will come to understand in the future lmao
The jump float serve doesn’t really happen till around ep 10, even then it’s only really introduced around then, I think it’s actually “used” sometime during one of the 20th episodes, and in season 2 I think there was a lot of improvement involving the jump floater. I’d also say there was a bit in season 4, To The Top part two
19:49 Haikyuu is the type of anime where side characters literally have just as many (if not more) stans than the actual main character lmao, so yes, Tanaka does have quite a few stans. (Personally I don’t stan him, I mainly stan Suga, Oikawa, Osamu, Atsumu and Kenma, but I do really love Tanaka!)
For Nishinoya, you’ll get a little teaser at the end of ep 7 and you will be formally introduced to him as well as another new character in ep 8! (Super excited for that!) if you like Tanaka and Hinata I’m 100% sure you’ll love Nishinoya!
And sadly, there isn’t any romance in Haikyuu, however a lot of fans still like to ship people anyways lol, coming from a KageHina and IwaOi shipper 😆
Also super excited to see what you have to say about Oikawa next ep! He’s an interesting character the more you get to know him, as well as well written and kind of misunderstood.

Tanaka is so pure-hearted. He's definitely one of my favs.
Hiya! So a recommendation for pronouncing "Haikyu" is to read it like you're saying "High-Q"! I know a lot of people kinda hesitate on pronouncing the y in the name, but otherwise it seems like the word Haiku, which is the poem style with the 5-7-5 syllable pattern. Also, they'll bring up a lot of the crow motif because that's their school mascot! If people make animal references, you can usually assume it's because of their school's mascots/ sort-of-puns on parts of the school's names. (Karasu means crow in Japanese, for example, and Neko means cat, as per a school later named Nekoma.)
As for the question about different art styles when zoomed out! It's usually simplified for the sake of the animators when character's aren't close. If you over-detail characters that are far away and thereby 'smaller' in-frame, it'll clutter the image and make it really hard to take them in--it makes the scene too busy! Sorry this is so long lmao I literally just typed this as I was watching so no promises that I don't add more in my replies :P

@@user-nl4df1fd3h I think we’re all aware that Haikus aren’t relevant to the story, it’s just that the pronunciation of the word Haikyu by (most commonly) English speakers often sounds like or simply is the word Haiku. The information you presented about it was interesting though, and I thank you for sharing it! It’s always cool to learn more about language and history!

That's what I love about this anime, and sports anime in general. They like to throw in tidbits of information about how to play and rules and general knowledge about the subject. It definitely make you want to play the game that the anime is showcasing.

I didn’t mean to say that any certain pronunciation is ‘wrong’ per say I just know the way she pronounces it is different from them
I stan everybody. Despite there being a net in the middle of both teams those teams still consist of people all with their own unique personalities. Everyone is special and precious for their own reasons.
Its so cool and interesting that you mention that practicing and playing with teams where you aren't the best player is when you really start to improve because they really get into that in the second and third seasons. One of my favorite things about this show is that the growth doesn't come from nowhere, we see our characters struggle and practice so the payoff is that much more sweet when they nail a play in a game.

I know I'm late to the comment section and this probably won't get seen, but I want to join the ranks of the people encouraging you to watch dub or sub, whichever you enjoy most and makes it easiest to follow! They're both great and similar enough I can switch back and forth and still know who is talking from how they sound.
I do think it's easier to follow the games when you're not looking down at subtitles, especially when voices overlay and more than one person is talking at once. Also I think it's easier to figure out peoples tone of voice, although once you're used to the sub it gets easier. THEY'RE BOTH SO GOOD OKAY.
So excited to see the next episode! There are so many things to look forward to!
tanaka is like the most inspirational team member he always encourages others and tries to perfect new skills I think in one of the episodes they even described him as having all qualifications to be a captain
