35:56 in my very humble opinion, it seems officers do this with a ‘hedge your bet’ mindset, stemming from lack of confidence and or training. Gun out when they don’t need it: deep down they’ve played the odds and determined they’re not needing to use but shows authority on some level. Holstered when they need it: they’ve already sh*t the bed mentally and now they’re endangering themselves and others by being frozen and have virtually seceded to the threat. Great videos. Please keep them coming!

I’m a 25 year LAPD Street Cop who has worked South Central and been involved in many critical incidents, and OIS’s and I could not possibly agree with you any more! Well stated. I see quite a bit of everything you described. I address these issues when I see them in my sphere of influence, and in debriefs. But like Matt said, a lot of it boils down to far to many phoning it in during training, and picking up shit habits from other Officers.
    Anyway… great discussion fellas.

There are 509 state and local LE agencies in NC alone out of the 50 States....and this video has only 569 views total at the 3 month mark. That is concerning. Also, Matt made a great point about many agencies showing a definite preference for writing 7 figure liability checks versus 5 figure checks for [relevant] live fire training.
