I forgot oil changes all the time and wouldn’t check fluids for months and one time I was jobless and went a year without looking under the hood even once. My car is STILL like new sitting in my drive way right now. Never had not even one problem with the car. Best purchase I’ve ever made!

    • @mrubuntuking5257
      @mrubuntuking5257 4 года назад +4

      I don't know how accurate Edmunds total cost of ownership calculator is, but by my math $150k in miles is 351,562 miles if you drive the typical 15k miles per year. Impressive. Certainly believable for a Scion/Toyota, but even for them that's very impressive. You must drive carefully, and not have missed any maintenance intervals by even a single mile. Most cars can go to 200k miles, people like Toyotas because they have a good chance of making it to 200k miles even if you ignore all maintenance except (belated) oil changes and treat them like crap. If you actually take care of them, which probably 80% of owners don't and almost all 3rd and 4th owners past 200k miles don't, the sky's the limit.
      I'd personally never buy a used Toyota without detailed service records, though. If all I want is 200k miles, there are a lot of other brands I could buy and save money, since I treat my cars well. When I pay the Toyota tax, I'd better be getting a car that I can make last virtually forever, not one that's already in the last half of its life due to 100k+ miles of someone else's abuse and neglect. That they bought *because* it could take their abuse.

I ordered it from Toyota when they became available on the east coast back in 2004. You can not buy a new Toyota XB. They are incredibly easy to get in and out of so folks with back problems, bad knees, and bad hips love them. The kicker is that these were available with a five speed manual which was so much cheaper. People on a budget and that like manuals bought the hell out of them. We were always backordered on these cars.

      He's right.
      For almost any Toyota (a dependable vehicle anyway, especially if it is all-Japanese like the xB's), 100K miles IS just breaking it in...
      I know of a person who owned one of the old Toyota Hilux pickups (the indestructible mini-pickups called "Truck" or "Pickup" in America, and was the same platform the 4Runners used to be built upon) with a 22R-model engine (2.4L I4, but not the same model as in these cars) that had literally gone 1 MILLION MILES with regular and periodic maintenance. I used to own one - keep fluids and filters changed, replace spark plugs & wires when necessary, and the timing chain & guides every 125-150K miles, and they ran forever!

The roads are incredibly tiny so the BB was actually quite large, but you could fit 5 full size Marines in them without any issues, and all their crap in the back. I have an 06 XB. I literally drove over 600 miles with a bad spark plug (drove from vegas to LA) The damn thing is beyond reliable. I bought it with 70k mikes. I have over 160k mikes now and still running strong. Other than regular maintenance with quality oil and changing out your shocks and fluids on time. The thing will just drive. It’s a great daily driver and tall people friendly.

      ROBERTO OROZCO I have an 06 tc. Got middle of last year, and what do ya know the engine blew up (one of the throw/crank bearings went bad, then fell into the crankshaft gears, big mess). It died beginning of summer break for me, so my dad, my best friend and I spent like 3 weeks and some change putting a used engine in it. Our bad for buying it, but stuff happens and best learning experience I’ve had. Our cars have been Toyota’s tho and never had any problems with them other than this fluke (which was a blessing in disguise).

      05 xb, the plastic prop rod holdrr thing broke, so i just set it in there (my fault)the prop rod came loose while driving and pierced the radiator and broke all the fan blades off (which I didnt realize) drove it another 100 miles on the highway to get to the shop essentially with no coolent. They tested the motor, no harm done, new radiator and fan installed and I was back in business. Probably needed that service anyways. 150k miles. Btw, that prop holder is like 6 bucks on ebay if yours breaks. I also replaced the plastic dips tick with a Toyota oem metal dipstick from ebay.

    I love you Scottie, and I’ll you what, I love my 2009 xB, got killer deal CPO, special release 6.0 and they extended my power train to 120,000 miles and got a new transmission for $50 deductible. This is by the far my favorite car I’ve owned and I’m driving it until the wheels fall off. Amazing car!! ❤️😊❤️

    My 2005 Scion TC got about 288k on it now and still run like new car.. I changed Catalytic converter once and that’s the only major job I’ve done to it. It’s a great car gas saver for sure

      Mine is 2004 xb with 233,000 on it. I have changed the cat too. Drive it 2 hours every day. Gas saver like no other. It depends on who is driving the car.

    As the proud owner of a 2016 Scion iM with a 6-speed manual, I'm happy with my car. My car is basically a European model Toyota Corolla hatchback. The engine is not so fast, but having a manual transmission makes it fun. And it's got an independent rear suspension. Of course, as a Toyota, especially with a manual transmission, it should last me forever.

    My father in law had a scion it had over 480k on it before he decided to get another vehicle. The thing was still running strong when he got rid of it. According to him other than routine maintenance it never had major repairs. He went with a Honda fit seems to be pretty happy with it as well.

    I owned a 2005 First gen xB and I loved that car. Even with 106hp it was a lot of fun to drive compared to modern cars especially CUV's and SUV's because it weighed nothing. Would highly recommend.
