hey scotty. am thinking of buying a used 2013 ford escpae sel AWL drive or a used 2008 or 2010 jeep cherokee laredo 4wd. whihc do you think i should go with?
A Toyota Corolla
Hey Scotty what’s your take on a 2005 Saab 9-2x aero wagon?
I love the fact that that Scion was Made in Japan. 🤘
these cars actually ended up being big hits with older folks who liked the higher entry level height but didnt want a big SUV.
@Dave696969696969 Marketing is 99.8% bull crap so . . .
Your comment is on point and the few young buyers they got with the 1st gen xb they lost with this the second gen which scotty featured as it lost the cutesy dimensions and went up in price.
Yep. Easiest car I've ever entered. You don't step up or down. You just step to the side.
Thats always the case. Every HHR I have seen was owned by an old person for that reason. Every young person i know who had one only had it because their grandparents gave it to them once they moved on to a real SUV
Yeah. They were trying to capitalize on that Fast and Furious import scene, not realizing that was just a fad, and that young people had no money for brand new cars. I only saw the elderly drive them. The few people who would enter them into car shows, still were elderly.
I had a 2005 Scion xB for several years, it was ugly to look at, but provided superb gas mileage, reliability and visibility was incredible. When I was ready to move on, my mechanic bought it from me and still drives it today, 5 years later!
2009 Scion TC with 76k miles for 6k? Thoughts?
@@shantanukashyap9591 Sounds pretty close to me if it's been taken care of.
Funny enough 😅 I love the styling when it comes to non sports cars it’s my favorite haha.
Should get better small engine, 2.4 probably shape. Mr2 so aerodynamically ideal fast light incredible mpg if normally drove. Might still buy Xb . Nice looks roomy for efficient.
That one is the best one looks wise. I like weird Japanese design. Currently looking for one low mileage.
I gave my 2006 Scion XB to my son a few months ago. It has over 475,000 miles on it and it still runs great! Original engine and transmission!!
Better Keep it in the family!
How often did you change transmission fluid?
@@user-rq3vt4kg4o never. Still had original transmission fluid in it. I never even changed out the transmission filter.
Insane. You rarely hear that kinda number of mileage on a car these days
@@homesteadhomie7855which model was that? I’m looking at a 04 Scion XA.
Hello Scotty! I have a 2011 Scion XB and let me tell you, it has been the best car ever! It currently has 340,000 original miles (bought it brand new), have never had a problem with it. The way it’s going, I think it’ll top 500,000 miles for sure!
Wow! You must have had to do some repairs tho??
@@tonygibbons5 Not at all, just the basic maintenance
@@UniqueDallas I am replacing my a/c compressor at 325k miles and getting some shocks lol.
@@shattergraveknight3378 These XB’s are superb!!
Yeah I still have mine, it's got 225k miles, only thing I've ever had to replace was one starter. Haven't had to do any other repairs
"Its got 99,000 miles. Its barely broken in."
From my personal experiences with GM, 99,000 miles would mean that it is ALREADY broken hahaha
05 Impala LS 300k miles OE transmission and engine. However mine was made in Canada
@@epsorks you should go to vegas with that kind of luck. 08 Colorado, before even 90k miles timing belt broke and abs system broke. Chevy HHR that my parents had blown head gasket before 100k. Now my moms Silverado hasnt been so bad, but its at 120k and its starting to have issues. Never going to GM ever again i wont make that same mistake hahaha
@@epsorks I've heard nothing but good things about Impalas. I know 3 people who got over 250k miles on theirs.
That's most likely because the maintenance were procrastinated to long and it feel apart my dad has an 03 Monte Carlo ss with over 300,000 miles on it daily drives never really had issues with it transaxle is still strong and engine runs like it's brand new
2005 malibu maxx,,278,000,,👌
I have a 2007 Scion tC with over $150,000 miles I bought it with 4 miles on it in 2007. It’s the first car I ever bought so let me tell ya, in the beginning I did not treat it well. I forgot oil changes all the time and wouldn’t check fluids for months and one time I was jobless and went a year without looking under the hood even once. My car is STILL like new sitting in my drive way right now. Never had not even one problem with the car. Best purchase I’ve ever made!
I don't know how accurate Edmunds total cost of ownership calculator is, but by my math $150k in miles is 351,562 miles if you drive the typical 15k miles per year. Impressive. Certainly believable for a Scion/Toyota, but even for them that's very impressive. You must drive carefully, and not have missed any maintenance intervals by even a single mile. Most cars can go to 200k miles, people like Toyotas because they have a good chance of making it to 200k miles even if you ignore all maintenance except (belated) oil changes and treat them like crap. If you actually take care of them, which probably 80% of owners don't and almost all 3rd and 4th owners past 200k miles don't, the sky's the limit.
I'd personally never buy a used Toyota without detailed service records, though. If all I want is 200k miles, there are a lot of other brands I could buy and save money, since I treat my cars well. When I pay the Toyota tax, I'd better be getting a car that I can make last virtually forever, not one that's already in the last half of its life due to 100k+ miles of someone else's abuse and neglect. That they bought *because* it could take their abuse.
proud owner of a 2006 xb and 150,000
It should be fine at 150,000 miles! That's nothing for a Toyota!
I hope you treat it good now.
Nice I have a 16 tC, hoping to drive it for the next 5 years at least
Bought one brand new in 2011. Nothing has ever broken in 150,000 miles
Hey, I got a Scion and it's dope asf
Love my 06 toaster! ~600W sound system kicks and still rolling great at 219k!
Yeah this guy is a troll
I have a 2008 168k miles runs great looks great wouldnt trade it in for nothing had it 3 years no problems
Thinking of buying a 06 xB with 140k on it...what things should I look out for oh wise toaster owners?
@@tonygibbons5 well if its for a good price get it , look out for the general make sure everything works other than that these car dont have any specific problems the 06 is older model the newer ones start at 08 but 06 is not that bad it will last you thats for sure

I have the same Scion XB, I bought new in 2009 it has 111,111 miles last time I looked. It has nothing wrong with it has been the best car I’ve ever owned. Never had a single problem with it.
they are great cars!
-im convinced
Those first couple years of the Gen 2 xb 08,09 had burning oil issues. You should check to make sure your not burning to much oil between oil changes.
oONoChanc3Oo haven’t had any oil burning issues but I’ll keep and eye on it.
@@mokshavortice Yea just make sure and check. When I owned my xb's I was on the forums and read about many people having this issue.
I’m not sure why an old guy yelling at me about Scions showed up on my suggested videos.. but I’m glad it did
Just worked on a 08 Toyota Corolla with 630,000 miles on it. Had to do a double take and get a second opinion when I glanced at the odometer. Looking at it and driving it you couldn't tell. Talked to the customer, original owner, he took good care of his car and it showed. This goes for most other vehicles, you take care of them and they take care of you.
I have a 2005 scion xb with 224k "BULLETPROOF" miles and still running strong! same engine as the toyota echo/yaris/xa!
Marc Vega don’t you have any excessive oil consumption problem?
@@jakekim580 i own a 2004 a 2005 and a 2006 scion xb they do not consume any oil that is more of a 1zz problem like from the corolla the xb this year uses a yaris engine same engine up to 2015 1 of my cars has 300k miles no problems
I own a 2008 and it burns about a quart every 3 weeks.. currently at 158k miles
That was the 2nd Gen early models 09-12 that sometimes had consumption issues. Early and late models did not. Toyota would put nee lifters if a Scion XB had the problem (and many have not, anyway).
@@tylerrivera4022 You are not the only one. Mine currently at 131K miles. Other than oil consumption, it doesnt have any issues.

@Noah Vale No you cant. only the Scion frs was rebadged as the Toyota 86 that I'm aware of. The XB has always been Toyota. It was Toyota BB in Japan before it moved to U.S. and rebranded Scion XB. The first generation XB's are the best and were only available 3 yrs in U.S. Mine Is a manual 4cylinder. I ordered it from Toyota when they became available on the east coast back in 2004. You can not buy a new Toyota XB. An if you could it wouldn't be caparable to the first gen Xb cause they dont make cars that are simple with everything you need and none of the junk you don't anymore. Love my Xb.
Yeah my first bran new car ever was a 05 xb. RIP when a full size Blazer tboaned it at 50mph. No injuries but totaled the box..took it like a champ.

@Rich Natural dont see why not is reliable asf
Actuallly yeah, the xD is running roughly for 2x of what it was going for a couple years ago.
I sold a crap ton of these XB as a salesmen. The guts of a Camry for a lot less. They thought kids would buy them and they did but I sold more of these to older people. They are incredibly easy to get in and out of so folks with back problems, bad knees, and bad hips love them. The kicker is that these were available with a five speed manual which was so much cheaper. People on a budget and that like manuals bought the hell out of them. We were always backordered on these cars.
Thank you Scotty... you really fill a void in me that my father left. And teaching me about more than just repair work, but the landscape of auto manufacturing as a whole.
_"It's barely broken in..."_ Scotty's totally right.
I once drove a 2009 Scion xB that was owned by a courier company. I was impressed by how eager and zippy it was; it drove like a brand new car! I was shocked when I looked at the odometer and saw it had *278,900 MILES!* It was being driven 7 days a week, 8+ hours a day. Damn great cars.👍
Hi
I used to work at a Toyota dealership. The (not so much of a) joke was that, with Toyota vehicles, once you've got them to 100K miles, you've just broken them in!
Could go for a million miles...!
I had a 2006 XB & it's definitely the best bargain in vehicles! Super dependable, zippy with amazing space & legroom inside. 32 hwy mpg. My brother said it feels like driving in a kitchen chair attached to a go-kart, which translates to fun! Lol

It's a shame that Toyota didn't carry the XB over when they phased out the Scion brand. The styling on the '07-'15 is timeless. And the powertrain is very well proven. Guaranteed to command top dollar.

Thank you so much Scotty for answering my questions about the Scion XB cars. My husband and I appreciate it so much that you share this knowledge with us.

I normally get tired of my cars after a year or so but i've had this bad boy for 10 years & still love looking @ it & driving it every single day. ♥️

Your neighbor is smart! They have a Toyota 4Runner!
Where ?
They probably had a GM or Chrysler-Fiat before, then had problems, Scotty looked at the car, and the neighbor realized they had a money pit and bought a 4Runner. Plus, Scotty's always out in his driveway yelling about cars to a camera, it's probably hard not to be influenced by him!

I bought a used 2006 Xb back in 2008/2009 and it’s still my primary driver. No major issues yet. I’ve had a Ford F-150 and a brand new Lexus IS-350 in that time span, both of which have come and gone, and the Xb is still standing. Rock solid and very practical car at 197K miles on it.
Hey scotty thanks for this video. I have been looking for a camry but you basically told me this is a camry with more space . Love it!
Certain years had oil burning problems (from what I've experienced) like clogging oil passages or piston oil ring issues. I have grown pretty fond of these little engines and they seem to go forever if you maintain them properly.
That's why suggested to go with 2011 and later, which also received telescoping steering
I owned 2. Best cars I ever had!
"It's got only 99,000 miles on it, it's barely broken in."
Nice cars, if I can get a deal on one I might go for it.
He's right.
For almost any Toyota (a dependable vehicle anyway, especially if it is all-Japanese like the xB's), 100K miles IS just breaking it in...
I know of a person who owned one of the old Toyota Hilux pickups (the indestructible mini-pickups called "Truck" or "Pickup" in America, and was the same platform the 4Runners used to be built upon) with a 22R-model engine (2.4L I4, but not the same model as in these cars) that had literally gone 1 MILLION MILES with regular and periodic maintenance. I used to own one - keep fluids and filters changed, replace spark plugs & wires when necessary, and the timing chain & guides every 125-150K miles, and they ran forever!
If it was a Mercedes or Chrysler it would be a miracle. But for Asian cars or some Fords it's new.
Only with Toyota lol
SHHHH!
My brother gave me a used 2005 Scion XB back in 2013. Six year and 224,573 miles in it and still running great with the original factory engine, transmission, etc.

When I lived in Okinawa the Toyota BB (Scion XB stateside) was the best car to get. The roads are incredibly tiny so the BB was actually quite large, but you could fit 5 full size Marines in them without any issues, and all their crap in the back. If you had a family and drove around a lot of the single guys as part of a church group, it was the best option.

Got an 05 tC with 150,000. Bought it salvaged from copart for 1800$ with 100,000 miles. Aside from some minor body damage it had that I’ve already fixed, she’s a damn tank, I’ve put a total of 400$ in it since owning it 3 years 50k miles later
It's fwd nothing fwd is fast
My understanding of the scion brand from a scion sales friend I had was that it was a proof of concept. It was sort of like Saturn back in the 90s and also seeing how the no haggle pricing would work on a new car. They were, as an entire brand, the only brand at the time who said this is the price take it or leave it.
Yep, I have a 2008 Scion xB with the 5 speed manual (bought it new back then) and I love it.
My Xb 09 my dad still has is fantastic the tensioner pulley was the only concern. It has 300,000+ miles still runs like a dream
The problem was that Scion was marketed to 18-35 years, but older people were buying them. It can be very risque to create a new brand
Risqué means "Suggestive of sexual impropriety; bordering on the indelicate". Is that really what you meant to say?
Interesting misspelling.
I was #@&&% broke in my early 20s😭, couldn't afford a new car till my late 20s early 30s 😅
I had that exact xB, loved it
Had a Scion tC 05 manual. That was my first new car a couple of years out of college. A good car indeed
Nice reliable sporty choice for a new car, bet you had loads of fun with it
Bought a 2013 today for my mom. She loves it.
I love the first generation Scion xB. It's hip to be square
Daniel Lawson Haha, I bought one and my wife almost divorced me. 😂😎🙈
Dangit! Scottys gonna go and inflate scion prices right when I need one lol!
Pontiac Vibe . 1G + 6/8 hundred for time chain and water pump.. 5 years dependable transportation. Toyota with pontiac badging. Good rides
@@joehart7964 hmmmm
Got a 2006 scion tC as my first car, 5speed standard transmission, it's incredibly fun. Shifts and revs like a dream with 172000
Thank you scotty for the info on the clutch!
I love the frs, scion marks the timestamp of my era and I’m proud to rep it
I have an 06 XB. I literally drove over 600 miles with a bad spark plug (drove from vegas to LA) The damn thing is beyond reliable. I bought it with 70k mikes. I have over 160k mikes now and still running strong. Other than regular maintenance with quality oil and changing out your shocks and fluids on time. The thing will just drive. It’s a great daily driver and tall people friendly.
ROBERTO OROZCO I have an 06 tc. Got middle of last year, and what do ya know the engine blew up (one of the throw/crank bearings went bad, then fell into the crankshaft gears, big mess). It died beginning of summer break for me, so my dad, my best friend and I spent like 3 weeks and some change putting a used engine in it. Our bad for buying it, but stuff happens and best learning experience I’ve had. Our cars have been Toyota’s tho and never had any problems with them other than this fluke (which was a blessing in disguise).
Awesome bro I got the same model with 350,000 miles on it still running and daily driver
Beyond reliable? I think that's called Magic.
05 xb, the plastic prop rod holdrr thing broke, so i just set it in there (my fault)the prop rod came loose while driving and pierced the radiator and broke all the fan blades off (which I didnt realize) drove it another 100 miles on the highway to get to the shop essentially with no coolent. They tested the motor, no harm done, new radiator and fan installed and I was back in business. Probably needed that service anyways. 150k miles. Btw, that prop holder is like 6 bucks on ebay if yours breaks. I also replaced the plastic dips tick with a Toyota oem metal dipstick from ebay.
70k Mikes, now 160k Mikes? That's a lot of guys named Mike :) (joking on your little misspelling)
When I sell my Scion I'm just going to post this video
I love you Scottie, and I’ll you what, I love my 2009 xB, got killer deal CPO, special release 6.0 and they extended my power train to 120,000 miles and got a new transmission for $50 deductible. This is by the far my favorite car I’ve owned and I’m driving it until the wheels fall off. Amazing car!! ❤️😊❤️
My 2005 Scion TC got about 288k on it now and still run like new car.. I changed Catalytic converter once and that’s the only major job I’ve done to it. It’s a great car gas saver for sure
Mine is 2004 xb with 233,000 on it. I have changed the cat too. Drive it 2 hours every day. Gas saver like no other. It depends on who is driving the car.
I'm on my third Scion Xb now. Aside from a vehicle accident in one of my scion's I have never had any major issues with my Xb's.
Just got a dark blue 06 5 speed bB with 150k miles and it rides likes a champ. I love it. Amazing car that truly is a hidden gem.
Scotty..you are a rockstar straight shooter...im 51, handy under a hood, and in my years have come to the sama conclusions..but you confer the info better than i ever could..keep rolling sir!
I had a 07 xB with a 5 speed when I worked in construction, and with the rear seats removed, it had tons of rooms for all my tools meanwhile being fun to drive.
As the proud owner of a 2016 Scion iM with a 6-speed manual, I'm happy with my car. My car is basically a European model Toyota Corolla hatchback. The engine is not so fast, but having a manual transmission makes it fun. And it's got an independent rear suspension. Of course, as a Toyota, especially with a manual transmission, it should last me forever.
Great little cars. I would love to drive one in standard
My father in law had a scion it had over 480k on it before he decided to get another vehicle. The thing was still running strong when he got rid of it. According to him other than routine maintenance it never had major repairs. He went with a Honda fit seems to be pretty happy with it as well.
I owned a 2005 First gen xB and I loved that car. Even with 106hp it was a lot of fun to drive compared to modern cars especially CUV's and SUV's because it weighed nothing. Would highly recommend.
I got a 2013 scion xb and let me tell ya it's great on gas my car has 50,000 miles on it and still looks and drives like new it was a good investment and I still have it today!
I just replaced my 2016 Ford Focus with a 2008 Xb. I couldn’t be happier! 6’4” people can drive the Xb but 6’0” people hit heads butts knees and elbows getting in the stupid Focus plus have scant storage
Love my 2005 Scion XA. Bought it new, no problems with it. 176,000 miles. It's a great little car!
