A while ago, I got an 01 Accord Coupe from my neighbor (with just 75K miles) for free b/c it sat for many years in his backyard without being used and it would've cost him THOUSANDS to fix it and get it registered. But, I fixed it up myself for about $500-$600 and even though it's now 19 years old, that car still runs like a clock. Best $600 I ever spent! 😁

I love my Volvo but it's definitely a luxury vehicle and I believe not for someone who doesn't keep an eye on it. As the newer ones I believe are more prone to issues than the previous models.
I own a 2011 sienna. 10 years of ownership with ZERO major repairs. It is an incredible vehicle. Other than maintenance, the only things that I've had to repair were a faulty door switch and a broken latch on the upper glovebox. Still on the original brakes, too, with about 1/3rd of life left.
I have a 2001 sienna. It has 284000 miles on it and it’s beat to crap. I drove it from NE to MA and back this summer with no issues. It just recently got hit by a Ford F-250 in the passenger door and it still works. The reliability of these minivans are amazing.
I sold my Sienna to a friends son to help him get back on his feet. At the time it had 150,000 miles. I got a call from his father a couple of years later and it had over 300,000 and was still running. My current Sienna has 75,000 and he want to buy it when I want to sell.
Just got a 2009 civic, 90,000 miles, manual for 4500. Couldn't be happier. Get the manual fellas, Honda transmissions are amazing. It's no 370z that I just sold but making a huge profit and downgrading makes me smile.
I have a 06 Camry XLE V6, the biggest work I had to do on it was change the alternator as well as the Struts. It is currently sitting at 214,000 miles and it still drives smoothly with plenty of power. Love the Toyota V6.
I have an '04 Camry LE V6, and I agree! They're worth buying and last a long time, even if they're not as efficient on gas mileage as a 4 cylinder. They have more power and are pretty smooth.
Josh Fried that was done at 95k miles, right before I bought it. Probably should do the belt and water pump again before it breaks down on me somewhere on the road.
Have a 05 Honda Accord EX Sedan 3.0 L V6 263,000 miles, going to try to take it to 300K, I like the Camrys too I think the 06 is a good model year for the Camry.
My 2017 corolla lease ended and I bought a 2019 frontier. I filled up twice already in a week and in my corolla id fill up every 3 weeks and the gas was still at a quarter
price of gas is going crazy atm...even Scotty didnt see this coming...but i trust everything Scotty says even if he doesnt have a crystal ball...love the channel Scotty...keep em up...your helping people make better choices!!
@@sharonprry4939. Consider it new. I have a 97 accord with 185000 on it. hurts to say I will have it for another 185000 miles. No sense in replacing it but failure is not likely in the distant future. I did have the pleasure of replacing a starter on it last year for 90.00. Other than that...breaks and oil changes since new. A nice kind of boring...one may say. Change your oil and check your fluid levels and be ready to be bored. Your civic is better than anything made today...take care of it...and yourself too. Have a great day.
Just bought a 2004 Hyundai Sonata. Looks amazing. 80,000 miles. Only problem is small bit of rust near rear wheel wells but everything else is in great condition for the age.
I've always been a Honda fan. My first car was a civic 1999, and I've been using my 2007 accord for almost 12 years now and running great. Thanks, Scotty, stay safe
Had a 97 civic i personally drive about 220,000 miles behind the wheel of. it was a manual trans and had about 87,000 miles when i bought it in 07' i was the 2nd owner.
I still have a 2008 Honda Civic, it's kinda old and maybe simple but very reliable, almost 193k miles on that car👍never a check engine light for the last 5 years
@Scotty, With your recommendation I bought a 2015 Lexus IS 350 F Sport. Have been having it for 6 months and have faced 3 issues already as follows. 1 - Mass Air Flow sensor issue. Had to cleanup including the manifold for the warning to go off. 2- Suddenly started to throw out thick white smoke and was misfirering. Had to clean all and replace one injector. 3 - The AC cannot be controlled. I slightly increased the temperature and it kept throwing out HOT AIR ONLY. The issue was with its Actuators. So… Honestly, I doubt your statement of this Lexus being the best and most reliable car ???
Okay, Scotty. I'm coming to you for advice and providing the facts. I'm approaching my 70th birthday and been without a car since December 2019. My '97 Saturn ran like a top. Totaled. I've got 1700.00. Need to pay cash. Looking for a 4 cylinder w/ good condition and appearance worth no embassesment. I'm looking to you for sound advise. Should I go to my mechanic who is very trustworthy or shop individuals looking to sell. I trust you to be my guru and advise what makes/models and whom to look for that's not just trying to unload a problem needing repairs that I can't afford. Please lend me mentioned needs with your wisdom and exper expertise. Much gratitude and thankfulness.
6/11/21 regular gas=$2.55 @ Lake Wylie, SC. Still, if I could afford a Prius, I'd buy one. Nobody knows what gas prices will be tomorrow. We might be at war, Pipeline takes a dump, USA gets annexed by California.
I agree. For some reason when it comes to getting advice on buying a car I find people who scream, make big gestures, and move around a lot are always have my best interest in mind.
I just stumbled on this channel and I’m loving it! My dad was a mechanic in his youth and my boyfriend has rebuilt cars. What Scott says rings true of what my dad and boyfriend have said :) thanks for all the info Scott! Info for the practical person.
My 2006 Highlander has just over 100,000 miles. Learned to change oil/filter myself which I do every 6 months. Still as good as the day I first bought it. Son is driving it now. He was only 6 when the car was new.

hello beautiful woman with a beautiful smile,oh my god you are very beautiful, you look lovely, you have a sweet face, it is really nice to meet you, how are you doing
Scotty thank you for reminding us of the impotence of being practicable and grateful about having a simple car in a time of financial uncertainty. You made me think of how stress free it is to have a good simple car. I was told by an automachanic that Parts of imported cars are not coming in the country. Crown Victoria will be a nice simple lg family used car to buy. You give EXCELLENT AND HONEST ADVICE. THANKS FROM THE HEART. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOU AND THE FAMILY M🙂
I sure hope so. I plan on buying a sedan for my next car (once the kids are out of the house. I have a Sienna right now). I'm hoping there is enough competition to force toyota to keep innovating the camry. The new TRD edition is a sweet ride.
Chrysler will keep making Dodge Chargers. They are the only American sedan that is not being discontinued. GM is axing the Malibu by 2023. FCA will most likely axe the Chrysler 300.
My dad always road shared for years with 4 to 5 guys and always bought used Buicks, big Buicks. This was at a time that Japanese cars didn't exist in America. He always wanted his cars comfortable and huge.
Had an 07 accord took me over 320k miles before it started burning oil. Then I bought a brand new 2019 accord sport. Doesn't matter how much money I make ill always stick with what works for me. ie. Toyota trucks and Honda sedans
2005 I bought a '00 Solara V6. I still have this car today. It has never left me stranded ever. While friends and family have gone through numerous vehicles over the years always asking when I'm gonna buy a new car I'm driving it till the it rusts back into the earth. If you see any early 2000's Toyotas cheap that arent smoking get it fast if you need a good reliable vehicle.
Bought a 2001 Lincoln Town Car for $4200 8 years ago with 73,000 miles on it and still driving it every day. I have probably only spent around $800-$1,200 over last 8 years on repairs. Car has same drive train and almost identical to Crown Victoria. Great Car.
Scotty I appreciate your common sense approach to owning an automobile. A mechanic that will talk about repairs and give explanations for the repair, is in my book somebody I'd rather deal with than someone who tries to mystify and play on mystique of owning a vehicle. People need to realize it is merely a source of transportation. IMHO
I got a neighbor with 3 corollas. All 2008. 2 of them 300,000 miles and one of them 250,000 miles. You wouldn't even think they're above 200 looking at them. Strong cars and great condition
Glad to own my 2019 Toyota highlander during this upcoming resession. Thank you Scotty for the education. Still miss my Mercedes C230 and Mustang Convertible but this is what's best for the family.
I currenty am running my 3rd Camry 4cyl 4dr. Boring yes, reliable absolutely fantastic. Good in snow with good tires, use snow tires and you got a tank.
Buy a used Prius! 45-50 mpg which will save you money right away. Do all your own car maintenance! I use software named Automotive Wolf to monitor the maintenance schedules on all me vehicles and remind me when anything is due, It also keeps track of all related expenses, parts and calculates how much it is costing you to own and operate the vehicle. My Prius is at $0.12 per mile while my F-150 costs 0.87 per miles. That is 7x as much to drive per mile.
Hi Scotty!! Still have my 2010 Camry from the last recession, I also have a 2009 Lexus RX350 like the one you did a video on, a 2007 Avalon with 200,000 miles that needed a new AC compressor, and my 2010 FJ Cruiser... All Toyota, and all running good without breaking my wallet... thanks for your advice...
I also recommend getting a Scion, especially the TC or XB. Average owners don’t know that they have Toyotas engines and transmissions. They can be really cheap
Since this video is now 2 years old, he sure missed it when he said gas is gonna be cheap for quite some time. I wish he was right, though. I drive a 2002 Buick Park Avenue with over 197K miles. It still runs great and gets good gas mileage. It averages in the mid 20s, and gets in the low to mid 30s on the highway. And it has plenty of room in it.
I ve been working on cars sinds 1987 and had several cars in the mean time. The most reliable car I ever had was a Ford Taunus which I bought for 450 $ and sold again years later for 700 euro. Extremely strong body work, simple to work on, rear wheel drive, lots of space to work on etc. I sold hundreds of Ford Fiesta, Escort, Taunus, Sierra etc and no oil problems, no gaskets, no gears broken , anything which occur with other makes, but times are changing and no such cars are made anymore. Ford was a genius and a real car maker, very good engines and very reliable ... but that's my personal opinion.

Rides like a limo.
I have a 2001 sienna. It has 284000 miles on it and it’s beat to crap. I drove it from NE to MA and back this summer with no issues. It just recently got hit by a Ford F-250 in the passenger door and it still works. The reliability of these minivans are amazing.
I'll settle for a Honda or Toyota saves money and headaches. Thanks
I sold my Sienna to a friends son to help him get back on his feet. At the time it had 150,000 miles. I got a call from his father a couple of years later and it had over 300,000 and was still running. My current Sienna has 75,000 and he want to buy it when I want to sell.
So very true! You can't go wrong with either!
Live free or die, right on Scotty ! You're a really nice honest guy. We love you man
Just got a 2009 civic, 90,000 miles, manual for 4500.
Neon Reign For sure, because of this I will never go 4 cylinder.
Timing belt?
Josh Fried that was done at 95k miles, right before I bought it. Probably should do the belt and water pump again before it breaks down on me somewhere on the road.
Have a 05 Honda Accord EX Sedan 3.0 L V6 263,000 miles, going to try to take it to 300K, I like the Camrys too I think the 06 is a good model year for the Camry.
I have a newer Corolla. I just started a new job less than 3 miles from my house. I only will need to fill my gas tank once every couple of months!😂🤣😂
That's wild 🤣
Robert Lamont damn don’t you go anywhere else? Lol
My 2017 corolla lease ended and I bought a 2019 frontier. I filled up twice already in a week and in my corolla id fill up every 3 weeks and the gas was still at a quarter
Just use a bike then you'll save so much money and get some exercise as well 😂

No sense in replacing it but failure is not likely in the distant future. I did have the pleasure of replacing a starter on it last year for 90.00. Other than that...breaks and oil changes since new. A nice kind of boring...one may say.
Change your oil and check your fluid levels and be ready to be bored. Your civic is better than anything made today...take care of it...and yourself too. Have a great day.

I love this guy! He is so down to earth and he is usually right! I check scotty's videos before I buy any vehicle.
Buy a Toyota Prius, is my advice.
Just bought a 2004 Hyundai Sonata. Looks amazing. 80,000 miles. Only problem is small bit of rust near rear wheel wells but everything else is in great condition for the age.

Got my first toyota 2011camry 100K+ miles during the pandemic, drives ok. That car is saving me tons of money, old but reliable.

So… Honestly, I doubt your statement of this Lexus being the best and most reliable car ???
i started watching this guy few years back when I was looking for my car. Now I dont look for the car but love watching this guy.
Please lend me mentioned needs with your wisdom and exper
expertise. Much gratitude and thankfulness.
I am in a market to buy a used car soon and I have been watching a lot of Scotty's video. I have learned so much about cars. Thank you Scotty.

My 2006 Highlander has just over 100,000 miles. Learned to change oil/filter myself which I do every 6 months. Still as good as the day I first bought it. Son is driving it now. He was only 6 when the car was new.

Ford and GM are going to regret giving up on their small cars. Hopefully we'll see a sedan renaissance.
I sure hope so. I plan on buying a sedan for my next car (once the kids are out of the house. I have a Sienna right now). I'm hoping there is enough competition to force toyota to keep innovating the camry. The new TRD edition is a sweet ride.
@@toddjamison77 Toyota will keep innovating whether anyone pushes them to or not; that's part of why they're such a good company.
Todd Jamison sucks The trd is FWD RWD would be more cool
Chrysler will keep making Dodge Chargers. They are the only American sedan that is not being discontinued. GM is axing the Malibu by 2023. FCA will most likely axe the Chrysler 300.

I bought a Camry, cleaned it up then put some original profile AlloyGators I found on Ebay for like $60 on it. One of the best purchases I ever made.
Scotty you just reinforced my belief!!!! You can't get a good job without a car which is why I don't have one now!!
A lot of us are broke right now , so I'm watching this.
IMHO
Bought an 01 Lincoln town car last year, 80k miles under 4 grand 😁😁
Just saw one for sale with 500k miles on it. Take care of that car man and you’re gonna be good for a long long long long long time

Awesome software!
Buying a used Prius has been the best car purchase I've made.
Regardless of gas, the cars he listed on this video still hold up. They key is reliability here
I got a 12-year-old 2008 highlander can concur it lasts forever still drives great. It hs 300,000 km on it.
Even if it does there's no point in buying old cars. 😅
The cars that came out in even 6 years ago look so bad honestly lol
I love my 2012 scion xb but it burns oil like a mf! Only problem I've ever had with it is the ac compressor not working sometimes
I agree. I have an 07 tc and I have seen some that has last beyond 200,000 miles.
And it has plenty of room in it.

lee Silverado, don't forget the lame one from GM (chinamotors)
Scotty said '' Everything going down ''. like the sound of that .
"You don't want a giant gas guzzler, that's still money you gotta to SHELL out" - I see what you did there.
