@@subliminallysilent222 she's "i'm not like other girls" because she's the type of girl that tries way too hard to look cool in front of other people instead of just being natural. basically she's a people pleaser who thinks she's superior than other women because of how quirky she is
@coke and cheese. Well, from what I saw in the movie, she doesn't really seem to appear as someone who thinks that they are superior just because they want a different life, they just want a different life than the others, nothing more to it. If she said that she didn't want to get married and live for someone else, that was because that life didn't suit her in particular. If she had thought of herself as superior, then she would have walked around trying to get other women to change their way of living, and she didn't do any of that. She only inspired another woman to follow her dreams, her stepmother who she knew was not happy with the way she lived. She did not try to force her to do anything, unlike her stepmother who obviously thought that her beliefs were superior and hence forced them on her. Did she try to tell her sisters that she thought low of their dressing up and obsessing over men? Nope, she let them live. And also, the only moment where it appeared that she was trying to look cool in front of others was when she climbed on that statue, and that was to get publicity for her dresses which she had explained in the movie itself. It's even shown in the ball scene, there was no makeup or a pretty hairstyle or even some jewelry on her, and that was to put all the attention on the dress and not her. If she was attention-seeking, that would not be the case.

On another note: the dress the evil stepsisters tear apart is actually Cinderella’s mom’s old dress. When she pulls it out of the trunk to alter earlier in the movie she explains it was her mother’s. She just planned to alter it for the ball. The stepsisters tore apart her dreams of having a night out, her mother’s dress, and the hard work her animal friends had to do to make the dress.
To this day, the tearing of her dress is still one of the most traumatising thing I have seen. I still can't understand why some people hate on the OG Disney Cinderella. She went through so many bad times, yet remains humble, compassionates and kind.

@@topsecret1857 the Czech /East German co-production? I wholeheartedly agree!
The fact that Disney, Ella Enchanted, and Ever After all have wildly different takes on the same character and they all still work so much better than this movie speaks to both the universality of Cinderella as a story AND the poor writing in this movie to mess it up so thoroughly.
for whatever reason - I 'm having a difficult time trying to "like" 👍 your comment on my mobile device - it doesn't seem to register & I suspect it's due to RUclips 's algorithm for some reason
The lady playing the cello literally broke my heart, as a violinist who knows how cellos work and have a close friend who plays the cello theres no way that she could have actually played what she did towards the end, she would have probably broken her strings
I keep seeing comments like this, and I guess I have to rescind this lady from my list of interesting characters now 😅 Too bad. Even less reasons to watch this film hahaha
As a musician, I actually whimpered out loud when she k.o’ed it
It's because they didn't actually play instruments everyday so there's no attachment to them. It's equivalent in destroying a project you work hard for. Torn down the dress you sewed for years. Delete the author's manuscript accidentally. Painful as hell.
she reminds me of Charming's mom from shrek 😂
Hot take: Maybe Hollywood should take a break from Cinderella remakes. There are plenty of other fairytales & folklore stories that could be beautifully adapted into a movie.
You said it! There's literally thousands of fairy tales and folk tales for them to draw from if they just applied themselves! Some of the fairy tales they adapted weren't even well known until they took them on and became major successes, like The Little Mermaid and The Snow Queen.
They should try Hans Christian Andersen's The Swineherd.
Bluebeard would make a good horror movie.
Would they do a good job of it though… I mean… look at this hot mess
A Little Match Girl would make a great movie
This movie literally makes me furious. Like, I shouldn't be this angry at a Cinderella remake!!! From the decade neutral costumes to the actors sounding like they're RUclipsrs singing their own renditions of modern day pop songs! I'm just so tired of Hollywood constantly trying to one-up themselves with their "This version of Cinderella is stronger than other versions of Cinderella" every 6 years like, make it STOP!!!

Disney already put the nail in the coffin for the princess genre, nobody is gonna do it better than the 2d Disney animated Renaissance
I'm personally not mad, just disappointed.
They can't even get the story or characters right like this story is CENTURIES old. I'm sick of Cinderella remakes my god.
I love how James Acaster just looked deeply embarrassed for James Corden throughout this whole movie. I'm willing to be there was no acting required for that.
this is like a group project and was made only in three weeks.
ps: no Cinderella’s better than Lily James😭 I’ve watched the real masterpiece several times and I won’t get tired of watching the movie.
Reminder Disney's Cinderella was already feminist and a strong woman cause being kind and compassionate in a world that seems to be against you take an enormous force of will and any "feminist Cinderella" is missing the point of the original.
Except Ella Enchanted that's a good one.
I agree tbh Disney’s Cinderella does a pretty good job of portraying a woman character that can be both strong-willed and feminine. Camila’s feels a bit more like “I’m not like other girls and I’m unconventional” which isn’t a problem in itself, it was just done very poorly and missed the point that Cinderella was strong DESPITE her circumstances 😅 Camila was given a lot as is, and still acted a bit pretentious.
@@msmilan_19 yeah. For example I really like Mirror,Mirror cause it has a very interesting take on Snow White and did a very good job. Though I have to admit that movie is mostly a comedy and Snow White was way more room to work with since story is simple and even kinda short.

And one more to add to this list!
For a historically accurate version with amazing songs, costumes, sets, actors and an actually interesting Prince: The Slipper and the Rose. Criminally underrated but so good!
this is THE list. full stop, best versions.
This movie is so fricking modernized that it doesnt even feel like it takes place in the mid 1800s. Which breaks the whole az movie and concept
It is modern, but they were living like on the medieval times.
Idk, its literally what the film said.
Exactly
It tries to be too political. People weren’t like that back then
bridgeton is an example of making a modern show taking place back then
Elle enchanted did the same thing.. Just better.
I still can't believe people reduce the Cinderella story down to a "disney princess romance" story. oc romance is there but as dozens of other comments have said, the core of it was Cinderella escaping her abusive family. I mean with abuse of all types being such an issue these days you'd think that they'd be more interested with going with that as the main focus but NO just make it a movie with a shallow, superfluous, and hollow feminist angle and call it a day
I’m surprised Idina Menzel hasn’t been admitted into hospital for carrying this entire film on her singing voice alone.
Legitimately this movie pisses me off because it shoves a whole narrative of women 'not needing no man' because they can do stuff themselves and like?? It completely loses sight of what Cinderella was all about
The whole Cinderella meeting Prince Charming thing wasn't the true purpose of the original movie, the romance was there, but the real point was Cinderella being able to break free of her step-family and do something SHE wanted to do
She wanted to achieve her dreams instead of slaving away in that mansion her whole life
She wanted to find someone special who loved her instead of treating her like garbage and this movie just completely spits on that and for what? Hollywood's idea of feminism?? because honey this just ain't it
This Cinderella barely gets mistreated, can already pursue the dream she wants to pursue, and then doesn't even WANT romance anyways so there's just legit no point to the movie
there's no driving conflict, it's just loosely sticking to the original plot while simultaneously pausing to shove the idea that 'Cinderella is a strong independent woman and doesn't need anyone!' down your throat every two seconds
Having a strong, independent woman as the main protagonist is a good thing! But they did it completely wrong and did both the idea and the original story an injustice
Ikrrrrr facts and I loved the 2015 version so much better it was perfect just like the original like we were happy that that
Exactly, the point of Cinderella is that being hard working and kind will be rewarded.
AND even then they fucked up the Hollywood feminism thing they were going for. The ENTIRE MOVIE she literally doesn’t ever EARN anything. The prince buys her first attempt at selling a dress, he again helps her later on by convincing the king i think (didn’t watch it), and she got lucky with the random noble lady or smth wanting to sponsor her/hire her. SHE LITERALLY DOESNT WORK TO EARN ANYTHING FOR HERSELF. Someone on yt (I forgot who) mentioned that if they REALLY wanted to go with the feminism plot as they advertised she should’ve figured out/solved the problems on her own. It was just really bad. 2015 cinderella wasn’t perfect but it was better. I’d also like to add that while Camilla cabello is a great singer she and her voice don’t fit the role of cinderella in a musical. Her voice is very extravagant (?) it’s very unique and strong but that doesn’t fit cinderella. Along with well the other things you and this video have mentioned. Beauty and the beast, mulan, aladdin and most of the other live actions were truly a disappointment in general and Disney needs to get their shit tgth
I mean if your talking about the first rendition of Cinderella Aka: The original one then all the movies of Cinderella would be wrong and far fetched from the source material. Cinderella was a story created in the year 6 B.C and it tells of a lady named Rudophus (a real woman) who was born a slave in Egypt. She was sent to Greece and a rich landowner liked her so much that he ransomed off her slavery. After that she became a free woman and became quite wealthy and successful. I want that story to be made into a movie.
I love your pfp lol
Really wish people would stop butchering cinderella. It's supposed to be a tale of a young girl who was forced into being a slave to her step family after the demise of her parents ( and depending on the author, only the mother). She's treated like filth, made to do all the chores for her step family and gets verbally and physically abused.
Every magical thing that happens was supposed to be a symbol of hope as well as showing that her inner beauty and strong heart could lead her to find a better life and future, away from her abusers. Even the "prince" wasn't a main element. He simply represented a person who could take her from rags to riches AND a person who finally treated her with kindness and care.
All this rubbish these hollywood adaptations are producing is honestly frustrating.
Yes thank you, the most important point in Cinderella is the fact that she stays kind, resilient and forgiving despite the hardships she faces.
It is actually the moral at the end of Perault's version. He says that kindness is the most wonderful treasure far graeter than beauty (which is quite the strong statement for the 1690s)
Yeah, but “down with the animated version”. Because she gets the prince she wants in the end. No slay girlboss? Like cmon stay consistent. The 1950 cinderella is perfection, along with the rest of the og princess movies.
@@KeilaBevins I will defend these fairytales from the feminists until my dying breath
@@KeilaBevins in previous Cinderella version, most of it include her love and kindness towards animal, and the animals also loves Cinderella dearly, following her everywhere and helping her. Especially in Disney 50's cartoon version.
Her ability to gain friendship, loyality and trust from animal showing what kind of good soul she is. I think that's more cool than 'girlboss' image that modern Cinderella's version pushed lately.
And The prince charming is just a bonus. She didn't know he is a prince when they met at the ball. She just want a day out from her depressing daily lives trapped in abusive household. Dancing and see the beautiful palace.
You literally just described 2015 Cinderella, aka the best Cinderella movie
2:01 wouldn’t someone in the 15th century being caught dishonoring a statue of a deceased leader be executed?

"Why does everyone have either American or British accents? Aren't they supposed to be from the same region?"
To be fair, though I'm certainly not trying to defend it, this is something that Disney has been historically inconsistent about as well.
Yeah cause why did Belle in both Beauty in the Beast movies have a BRITISH accent when she's from FRANCE???
The fact that every single Female in this film would have been a better prontagonist is just-
(The 2015 Cinderella was already amazing, why did they have to make this and claim "Cinderella as a strong sassy single woman is best Cinderella")

What strong female characters should be like: Good character growth, interesting personality, learning from mistakes, determined to be the best they can be, a realistic role model who girls can relate to
What Hollywood thinks strong female characters are: strong™, sassy, unnecessarily sarcastic, maybe fights people, either "quirky clumsy girl" or "misandrist who looks down on men", no personality outside of being a strong female character, don't need no man (because as we all know, strong people don't feel love)

Best Cinderella-type movie imo. My only complaint is that the prince isn’t super likeable, maybe his face just isn’t my type. But Drew Barrymore knocks it out of the park her performance is fantastic, as is Angelica Huston as the stepmother. A lot of visual storytelling and good acting that relays the emotions instead of a narrator or character having to say it out loud, which is my biggest pet peeve of a lot of fairytales. They over-rely on narration to tell the story instead of just making a good movie, as if just because it’s a fairytale the audience needs to be spoonfed and can’t infer based on symbolism, color choice, or the acting/hand gestures/emotions shown on face and body language.

I truly kept waiting for the evil stepmother to EVIL the whole time. But instead she's doing laundry and encouraging Cinderella to get married? This is just a deep misunderstanding of what Cinderella is about. The big conflict is that she didn't want a conventional life, but Cinderella wasn't allowed to have any kind of life at all.
The stepmother encouraging Cinderella to get married legit threw me for a loop.
I think there could have been a version where stepmom gets a redemption arc but I think they flubbed it here.

I liked Beauty and the Beast. It wasn’t quite as good as Cinderella, but I don’t understand why it gets so much hate.
Doesn't take a critic to say this movie is a legit crime that nobody wanted
Actually, Cinderella originated way back. I currently don't know who to credit, as there's been many comments that say different things. The versions you know are far brighter than the originals. Disney was some of the people to retell these stories in a more kid-friendly manner.
Edit: I saw many comments correcting me on the origins of fairytales. As I mentioned in one of the comments, it's important that we never forget where stories comes from, so that the true creators recieve the credit they're owed.
This is true. And I would still prefer to watch a historically accurate Grimm Brothers Cinderella than this one 😬
@@msmilan_19 Definitely. Society could have done without this film. X.x
Actually, that's not true. The Grimms took beloved folktales and purposefully darkened them to appeal to an adult audience. They usually erred on the side of making the female characters evil or useless, to reflect their own misogyny.
The Grim brothers didn't create the stories, they just compiled popular folktales that already existed.
Actually, Cinderella didn't originate with the Brothers Grimm. A man named Charles Perreault actually wrote Cinderella nearly 200 years prior to the Grimms. Charles' one was different from the Grimms' one and his one was the inspiration for Disney's Cinderella, not the Grimms one.
The Grimms version is merely an edgy reimagining that imo is praised way too much than what it deserved.

I remember seeing the trailer for this “horrid thing” and thinking “why just why???” We have BILLONS OF CINDERELLA MOVIES LIKE WHY NOT MAKE SOMETHING BETTER. Now I’ll say this, at least they changed up some things so it’s not like the actual “Cinderella” we all know but it’s just not it lol.
this just makes me appreciate how the original Cinderella is a masterpiece
1:55 AND WHEN THE CHOIR COMES IN THEY'RE FLATT!!! the audacity
3:12 , one of those straight guy that has to be gay for a movie be like:
I WANNA SEE A MOVIE OF THAT ONE WOMAN IN THE BACKGROUND AT 3:31 WITH THE CROWN AND SARI TYPE DRESS BECAUSE I WANT MORE INDIAN REP 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
2015 Cinderella’s dress was just, perfection, i watched it at the cinema. 🥺✨
every movie is a creative adaption. but honestly there was one single actor in this entire movie that could actually act.
2:52 but jokes aside this scene made me cryyy as a kid😭
Yup. It's heartbreaking and terrifying all at once🥺

I always thought that original Renaissance Disney Cinderella was already a strong character on her own. She was sweet, intelligent, hopeful and encouraging. Yet, she was able to plan and escape from trouble by herself, with the exception of her animal friends when necessary. She honestly didn’t need a man to save her. But when she found ‘The One’ she treated him with much love and an equal. She accepted the Prince wholly out of pure love.
Something which from what I seen in clips, The recent Cinderella lacks chemistry. It was more to a parody or comedy than an actual serious show.
While I am here, The whole “I DON’T NEED NO MAN” mentality has become so twisted these days. Like, okay, it’s fine for women to be able to make it on their own without men. Or for men to get by without women. That’s fine! But that doesn’t mean you should reject all men and women from your lives. You should still be able to treat them all with respect!
!!!!!!!! :)
Ngl the taller step-sister immediately became the best character in the movie with that fake laugh in the beginning of the movie
"yaas future queen yaaas" broke me
I literally hated almost everything in this movie but the stepmom’s song later was really good because… Idina, but the context and where they put it was AWFUL and they should’ve translated the pop elements into classical bgms and maybe this movie could work :)
Nah
The screenplay is already broken for this one
So even if the song was fixed , it will still be a crappy movie .
@@m.syauqiabdurahman2798 tbh you’re not wrong
Something else I noticed is how Cinderella waves at people at the end of the movie. She literally just waved her hand palm front and palm back. She needs to take notes from Julie Andrews in The Princess Diaries when she gave that ¨Thank you, for being here today¨ lesson
Literally cried watching the movie from embarrassment. It felt like I was watching a kids show with gen z humour.
that one scene of the stepmother playing the piano brought me more emotion than anything else in the movie. she literally made me cry, the way she plays is so full of emotion and heartbroken pain. its nothing like cinderella's petty little flirting with the prince. dont mind me, just fangirling over idina 🥰🥰
I agree that the prince was trash, his character was irresponsible and ugh. Why would any girl want to be with such much less cinderella ?
When a girl who is literally cursed to listen to every command from anyone is more empowering then someone who was written to be a powerful business woman.
Who is cursed to always listen to people?

Ella from Ella Enchanted
that's why cinderella 2015 was the best adaptation done for cinderella. every scene, especially the ball, was shot and done magically and fantastically. *mwah*
at the part where the pretty ladies were dancing for charming, i really loved the bald one 🥺
The only characters I actually liked in this movie were the Step Mom and the prince’s sister… And everyone else that isn’t a main character
I really like how the most "muh Hollywood feminism!!!" Cinderella is also the one who has it the easiest, _and_ has the most Not Like Other Girls energy compared to every other adaptation 💀
3:26 when all the other dresses at the ball are 10x better than the one cindy designed for the princess
The fact that James Acaster and Romesh decided they needed a paycheck that they’d stoop this low, honestly made me watch the movie 😂 I wanted to know 🤷♀️
i dont know WHAT was going through their heads when they said yes to this but i'll follow them blindly into battle so

3:38 as a cellist this hurt me on a spiritual level
As a violinist, same
As a violinist, both the soundtrack and the action...
Even me who is not a cellist or a violinist
I also cringed at that part (even tho i cringed for the whole movie part) .
Even as someone who plays saxophone I could feel violated when she broke it.
As an aspiring pianist i wanted to reach into the screen and take the cello away
The best version of Cinderella was Cinderella III and that is it.

ikr lol
You forgot three hazelnuts for Cinderella
@@annanannee2156 I looked it up, idk if it can match up to Cinderella III standards
@@n4tsukashii oh don’t let that hear any German or Czech person. It’s a Christmas classic here
How was everyone literally so CHILL with three frickin mice dancing on their food in the party scene like-
thank you for showing me everything I needed to see from this movie in less than 6 minutes.
Plot twist: The girl disinterested in trying on the glass slippers had the “proper” foot size and attended the ball only to fall in love with the violin lady.
0:51 the laugh XD
When this came out my parents and I hate-watched it together with running commentary and it was hilarious. Could never watch it for real though
Holy shit, I didn't realise they had Romesh Ranganathan, James Acaster and Rob Becket in this, seriously did them dirty. If you've only seen them in this I implore you to watch their stand-up comedy or travel shows (Romesh and Rob had a show). They are honestly some of the best mainstream British stand-up we have at the moment.
1:44 GO! *echo, echo, echo*
why was that so funny 😂
1:05 OMG I FELT THE SAME WAY
Tbh, 'Not Cinderella's Type' is the best Cinderella remake ever
Nicholas being a prince again now; he is such a beuatiful prince, fits perfect
Bro we could've just had left the Cinderella franchise at the third movie and be done with it WE DON'T NEED *ANOTHER* LIVE-ACTION REMAKE
Honestly for the longest time I thought the cinderella in this movie was played by the same girl as Rachael Berry, my friend had to tell me it was some person I never heard if-
rachel berry at least could sing, unlike that... thing 💀

My dad told me that apparently camila cabello acted and sang as cinderella 💀
Camila does look like Lea Michelle 😭
I like most Cinderella retellings, most of them have different interesting angles on the story. Brandy's, Ella Enchanted, Ever After, the live action remake from Disney, I even enjoyed the Hillary Duff reboot. This wasn't it.
I think their first mistake is trying to make yet another Cinderella, it has too many standards with the amount of movie versions it has already. I think Camila is a very good actress for the fact that she hasn't done much acting work, but this just wasn't the right project
