@@tw0anastasia she’s in an abusive situation. It’s not sexist for her to need someone to save her. She’s literally an abuse victim. You have a gross misunderstanding of the story.
my fav thing was someone pointed out that this whole time Ella was trying to do her dress thing but in the time period they set this in. she literally was allowed to - like expected to... they were too lazy to make her wanna be something else that wouldn't have fit in that time period
I was literally wondering this the entire time. Like why wouldn't the poor Step mother let her work and marry? Like, Idina's character seemed smart enough to see the potential of two incomes or etc.
@@mangrycat6928 But that's dumb. Even if the dresses were bad, she would've at least given her a chance because she also could use the money. In fact the stepmother could take the money Ella made. It's a lazy plot
The Somebody to Love Scene with the Prince I think was supposed to be ironic, as he's talking about working hard while having people dress him up, and I think he probably choose the stylistic R to sound like a Royal point or something. Cause I have heard that kind of roll of the R in some old Englishplays or something. Though he didn't need to do all the stuff he did, but I actually found the R thing funny, sounding like a stuck up Royal English person.
everyone talking about how Rhythm Nation was done so dirty that Janet needed an apology but no one is talking about how that terrible run the Prince did in Somebody to Love made Freddie Mercury spin in his grave like a top????
'This is perfectly written for Indina' Well she did write it 😂 She said it's a special song cause apparently it was the first song she ever got to write without it being someone else's like on Frozen so yay 😁
It's not the first song she wrote at all. She has her own songs, most of which, like this one, she co-writes. This was the first time she got to have her song put into a movie.
I didn’t care for the movie too much, but Billie Porter killed the fabulous godmother character. Kinda like how a lot of people complained about Will Smith as the Genie even though Robin Williams was dead and wouldn’t be able to play the part anyways and I thought he did a good job at it. I think it’s cool to make creative changes to the original without taking away from the original. I think people hate it because they’re stuck in their old ways where this stuff wouldn’t have been seen but I agree with you, I’ll die on that hill with you because he killed it
Not sure if anyone has pointed it out yet but it’s called a jukebox musical! That’s why it’s all cover songs! Just like Moulin Rouge! It’s more known amongst the Broadway community, most movie musicals are original songs!
So many of camila’s runs or small phrases are very very out of tune and I’m surprised you didn’t comment on that in the first song where you said she sounded her best…..
Tristan is so funny, he was literally making me die of laughter watching this! 😂 I actually covered million to one by Camila if you want to give it a listen! :)
i saw this in theaters and every single preview was for an animated movie which makes sense because this is a kid’s movie!! it was funny, cringey, and entertaining - exactly what i expected it to be! the people bashing it must’ve thought it was gonna be an oscar-worthy film or something
exactly, I think people went in thinking the live action remake from a few years ago, but if you go in expecting a cheesy kids movie it’s actually pretty enjoyable
I think the problem here is the movie cannot settle into a qualitative category. Like, you can't enjoy it as a "so bad it's good" guilty pleasure, because there's actually decent stuff in there. But you couldn't call it "good", whichever way you slice it. There's some problematic messaging in the "girlbosses just need to be capitalists" theme. AND the movie is disappointingly hetero, when you think about it. Pop vocals, rough edges, nice licks, fun moments, weeeeirdness that is hilarious on occasion and BAFFLING too. Calling it a mixed bag is an understatement. My head hurts.
That's exactly what I was thinking, he's a Tony award winner and an insanely brilliant performer/artist! I got to see him in Kinky Boots on Broadway and he was simply amazing!!
I read someone be like "I've seen better performances of a middle school drama class" toward Billy's singing. I'm just like, LOL. Come back when you win a Tony for musical theatre you moron.
Least it made hearing her sing with herself have a reason. Too many modern "musicals" (which fail at being actual musicals) have it and it is like, Okay, you are singing with yourself out of nowhere? Riiiight.
For those confused why there’s covers in this, it’s a jukebox musical. A musical that is based around popular sounds rather than writing original ones. They are pretty common and not weird or different. lol
i just realised that this movie almost feels like they were trying to pull a mamma mia ( musical based off of pre-existing songs ), but wanted to include originals... but even in the mamma mia movies, at least the songs for the storyline made sense ??? and hey, pierce brosnan was in it, too! :')
Aside from certain scenes and aspects of the film, I honestly thoroughly enjoyed it. Like some of the criticisms are def valid, but all in all Camila did a fantastic job and you can really tell she put in a lot of work taking on the role. Billy Porter and Idina Menzel also SHINED in this movie, and I think the guy playing the prince did a decent job considering he hasn’t done a musical film before! My favorite songs were definitely “Million To One” (which Camila actually wrote for the film), Material Girl, Shining Star, and Perfect ✨
I agree with your comment, except the part where you said Camila did a good job…I found her performance cringey and annoying. Her singing was great though.
I just saw this movie with my sister and I too enjoyed it, though there were sence that didn't really make sense and me and my sister laugh it of like WHAT A STUPID SCENE BUT ITS FUNNY😅
I was just dying laughing at the song during the ball but then out of nowhere comes a cello smash and when I say I visibly flinched I mean I almost fell of my bed flinching away from that destruction. This is not even an exaggeration, I kid you not.
Mmm i disagree camila has always been a dreamer and this matches it more to me her million to one reminds me of havana in the sense of why its made idina matches it well along with camila the godmother is awesome these 3 just pull the show tgt for me
idina and billy porter are the only ones who make it feel like you’re actually watching a high production film. i mean all these seasoned actors and it came out this bad?? it’s embarrassing for them
I'm so glad you made this because I had the same reactions when I watched it. I'm disappointed they didn't match the songs better to Camila's voice, tbh. It sounded like she was straining to belt some notes in the larger numbers.
I think he absolutely can carry all the prince's songs eventhough not the same, but don't think he can act..yet. Camila however has been practising/doing a little acting throughout the years in her music videos.
I am of the unpopular opinion in which I find camillas voice like ear-piercing nails on a chalk board. The movie was fricken weird and awful though. Even the great Idina voice could not save this tragic writing, casting, producing, directing, and song choices. And by the way, I agree the best part of it all was the fairy!
Gosh couldn’t agree more.. I was waiting for someone else to mention how high pitched her voice is.. like she’s clearly a good singer and can hit notes, but for me the actual tone of her voice is so cringy and it even sounds like she’s trying to bend it to be even higher and squeakier, which makes it sound tight. I’m no vocal expert, just an instrumentalist here and I really didn’t enjoy any of the music in this except for Porters funky bit 😭
man i love this comment bc i truly hate camilla’s voice. as a voice major, it’s so pitchy and strained, since all of the notes are forced. it sounds like the “cursive” singer and it’s not good. it is so painfully autotuned as well; i just can’t stand listening to her
the part that hurt me the most is the cello being SACRELIGIOUSLY PLAYED IN THE WORST WAY POSSIBLE DO YOU KNOW HOW FAKE IT LOOKS AND HOW MUCH IT HURTS MY SOUL
I feel as though a lot of Americans where comparing this to there musicals but as a Brit I saw this as more of a panto. If you look at it like that I mean it slaps. Also the fact that people aren’t recognising James Acaster and that guy from 4o’clock club upsets me, cause I literally watched it for Acaster 😩😂 Btw Billy Porter as the fairy godmother is the best thing I’ve ever witnessed in my whole life.
Honestly I couldn't get into it until the thought popped into my head. The opener was so so. And I wanted more original music, because the originals were great. But as soon as I said, "this is kinda like panto." I Was so down with it after that. Billy was my favorite!!!!! I only gave it a chance in the first place after hearing Billy would be in it.
I watched it thinking it was a musical movie (like usual Disney type of movies) and I couldn't do anything but laugh of how ridiculous and pointless it was, but know that you mentioned pantomime, well, It would have made more sense that way 😆

Camila said she wouldn’t want Shawn to be the prince in the movie cause they’ve been dating for 2 years and she said it would be just be awkward, and Shawn said he can’t be the prince in a movie cause he says he’s still trying to figure himself out something like that go watch it.
Why did they think Cinderella needed to be made into a Glee episode 😭😭😭
The fairy godmother knocked it out of the park tho for real! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Camila is just a struggling dress maker- not a servant like her whole character arc in the original is. But like- why did we need another Cinderella movie? We have like 400000 😂😂
Exactly we have a lot more now
you're right BUT i'll take nother cinderella movie anytime if they make it gay !!!
I agree! They should've come up with something new and fresh
@@tw0anastasia she’s in an abusive situation. It’s not sexist for her to need someone to save her. She’s literally an abuse victim. You have a gross misunderstanding of the story.
It's the same way I feel about all those A Christmas Carol adaptions.
my fav thing was someone pointed out that this whole time Ella was trying to do her dress thing but in the time period they set this in. she literally was allowed to - like expected to... they were too lazy to make her wanna be something else that wouldn't have fit in that time period
I was literally wondering this the entire time. Like why wouldn't the poor Step mother let her work and marry? Like, Idina's character seemed smart enough to see the potential of two incomes or etc.
@@dt2568 dont u understand the movie? Her stepmother doesnt believe in her dress making dream and looked down on her. Thats why.
@@mangrycat6928 But that's dumb. Even if the dresses were bad, she would've at least given her a chance because she also could use the money. In fact the stepmother could take the money Ella made. It's a lazy plot
I’m starting to think that Idina should’ve played Cinderella
the princes facial expressions when he’s singing have me dying. he has a decent voice but just…those faces lmaooo
The prince was pitchy at best
The Somebody to Love Scene with the Prince I think was supposed to be ironic, as he's talking about working hard while having people dress him up, and I think he probably choose the stylistic R to sound like a Royal point or something. Cause I have heard that kind of roll of the R in some old Englishplays or something. Though he didn't need to do all the stuff he did, but I actually found the R thing funny, sounding like a stuck up Royal English person.
exactly! i just found it funny and cheesy and extra whilst also thoroughly enjoying his vocals
I really liked it 😂
Agree 💯%
Reminded me of another attempt at Hamilton fame.
Tristan: "This movie is ridiculous."
Also Tristan, 1/2 a millisecond later: "This is good."
everyone talking about how Rhythm Nation was done so dirty that Janet needed an apology but no one is talking about how that terrible run the Prince did in Somebody to Love made Freddie Mercury spin in his grave like a top????
Tell me about it, I don't really like the movie, I thought the movie would be decent
And Camila said that was one of her favorite songs on this show. I'm sure she is lying 🤦🏽♀️
I think it all went without saying
I think the prince doesn't have a strong vocal identity, so doing all the covers is really hard for him to maintain vocal continuity.
That makes so much since, because you could tell he was really singing, it was just all over the place.
That’s a perfect summation! It was just him trying to imitate what the original artist was doing with a little of his own flair peeking through.
As much as y'all hate Billie Porter's character in this film for being a stereotype, he still carried this movie and I will forever die on that hill.
Same
I didn’t care for the movie too much, but Billie Porter killed the fabulous godmother character. Kinda like how a lot of people complained about Will Smith as the Genie even though Robin Williams was dead and wouldn’t be able to play the part anyways and I thought he did a good job at it. I think it’s cool to make creative changes to the original without taking away from the original. I think people hate it because they’re stuck in their old ways where this stuff wouldn’t have been seen but I agree with you, I’ll die on that hill with you because he killed it
“GET OFF MY DAD”
This took me out I wasn’t expecting that😂
It literally pops into my head when I'm at work and I burst out laughing everytime 😂😂
That ball scene with the What A Man/Seven Nation Army mash-up gives major Moulin Rouge vibes.
Tristan's expressions during the prince's song were so entertaining to watch 😂.
Not sure if anyone has pointed it out yet but it’s called a jukebox musical! That’s why it’s all cover songs! Just like Moulin Rouge! It’s more known amongst the Broadway community, most movie musicals are original songs!
And it felt shoehorned in.
Moulin Rouge was good tho
Yeah but there’s original songs mixed in too, so it doesn’t make a lot of sense
I’m loving the Idina Menzel appreciation in this video! “No offence to these others but I just want to hear Idina” - relatable.
So many of camila’s runs or small phrases are very very out of tune and I’m surprised you didn’t comment on that in the first song where you said she sounded her best…..
I think he didn't anything much bad cause he was sponsored so he was extra careful with his words
I think there was a bit of autotune too?
Yeah.. it was pretty underwhelming the whole time
@@potato-whiz a bit? jaja

Tristan is so funny, he was literally making me die of laughter watching this! 😂 I actually covered million to one by Camila if you want to give it a listen! :)
How is no one talking about how Tristan edited his face onto the prince’s head
When u can’t tell if Tristans face exasperation’s means good or bad
Edit: Tysm for all the likes!! ❤️❤️
I couldn't tell half the time either tbh 😂
Lmao
It just a “meh”
i saw this in theaters and every single preview was for an animated movie which makes sense because this is a kid’s movie!! it was funny, cringey, and entertaining - exactly what i expected it to be! the people bashing it must’ve thought it was gonna be an oscar-worthy film or something
I agree actually! It was basically what I expected but the cheesiness made it way more fun than I could have imagined
exactly, I think people went in thinking the live action remake from a few years ago, but if you go in expecting a cheesy kids movie it’s actually pretty enjoyable
You should do more movie/musical reactions!! I loved this :)
Whoops meant to post this on the main thread lol sorry
Just because it's for kids doesn't mean it doesn't deserve good music and good singing. Kids can recognize when something is trash too
I think the problem here is the movie cannot settle into a qualitative category.
Indina and billy are the best parts, both gave me chills when hearing their clips
They're literally the glue holding this project together. Camila was okay. But everyone and everything else was pretty disappointing to me tbh.
unnecessary question: Why has Camilla got the exact same hair style through out nearly the entire film?
greasy wig style you mean.. I think she always looks awful
omg wait ur right why didnt i notice that 💀💀

Billy Porter is amazing. he has won a Tony award for his performance in Kinky Boots during your review you never name him, despite praising his vocals
Yeah I think Tristan didn’t recognize him but he still should have named him
Camila wrote “million to one” and tbh that’s the only song this movie needed
co-wrote*
I liked Billy Porter song....but I just like his singing period lol
Yes
Her singing wasn't helping the musical btw. She did not fit this movie.
i honestly think its one of the worst songs😬 its so cringe
As much as I love Billie Porter, I think Idina doing Dream Girl is the only song from this I'd listen to again (and again).

I am SO SURPRISED THAT YOU REACTED SO POSITIVELY TO CAMILA’s VOICE???
honestly I don't think the first song was bad but I haven't seen the movie
him liking the duet with herself is funny bc it’s the part most people hate the most (including myself lmfao)
They are pretty common and not weird or different. lol
Okay but Tristan mimicking in that accent during the fairy godmother part is the best HAHAHAHAH OMG LMAO I cannot
camila needs to sing some of these live cuz they are just chefs kiss
But that opening song had so much auto tune 😞
A lot of the songs in the movie were sung live while they were filming.
@@maysings5214 yeah it had so much auto tune 😂😅
i just realised that this movie almost feels like they were trying to pull a mamma mia ( musical based off of pre-existing songs ), but wanted to include originals... but even in the mamma mia movies, at least the songs for the storyline made sense ??? and hey, pierce brosnan was in it, too!
So agree, you are speaking facts.
I agree with your comment, except the part where you said Camila did a good job…I found her performance cringey and annoying. Her singing was great though.

Tristan being annoyed with the guy that sings the announcements was literally me watching those parts of the movie
I was just dying laughing at the song during the ball but then out of nowhere comes a cello smash and when I say I visibly flinched I mean I almost fell of my bed flinching away from that destruction. This is not even an exaggeration, I kid you not.
i hated camila’s singing style in this tbh, i felt like it really didn’t fit a musical and it seemed especially lacking in comparison to idina
This is my number one problem with the film
Camila's voice is really good for solo stuff but not… not this.
@@Alice-nr4oh Camila is only good for pop, she is not very versatile.
Mmm i disagree camila has always been a dreamer and this matches it more to me her million to one reminds me of havana in the sense of why its made idina matches it well along with camila the godmother is awesome these 3 just pull the show tgt for me
Camila is having trouble with her voice reaching the notes it doesn't sound natural at all
i love how camilla really took the role and made it her own, and i think she did incredible with the vocals
idina and billy porter are the only ones who make it feel like you’re actually watching a high production film. i mean all these seasoned actors and it came out this bad?? it’s embarrassing for them
Idina, the fairy GodMother, and the Queen were the only characters I liked in the whole movie.
Same for me too
Yes, me too!

Same, but i like Camilla too.
Billy porter is fabulous. 😍
I'm so glad you made this because I had the same reactions when I watched it. I'm disappointed they didn't match the songs better to Camila's voice, tbh. It sounded like she was straining to belt some notes in the larger numbers.
I agree she sound strain in some higher parts as a camila fan. They should have give her songs that are better for camila.
“IF ONLY IT WAS SHAWN” OMG YES! I was thinking the same thing!!
The reason Idina's second song suits her so well is because she wrote it. And she also has a music video out that is rock remix of it
YES Idina’s voice in that song towards the end brings me back to her as Elphaba 😍 she’s so talented

Billy Porter is such a treasure, it sucks they stuck him in such a fever dream of a movie
Him and Idina. They didn't deserve this absolutely slanderous movie
Idina and Billy basically carry the vocals of this film
I’m no vocal expert, just an instrumentalist here and I really didn’t enjoy any of the music in this except for Porters funky bit 😭
man i love this comment bc i truly hate camilla’s voice. as a voice major, it’s so pitchy and strained, since all of the notes are forced. it sounds like the “cursive” singer and it’s not good. it is so painfully autotuned as well; i just can’t stand listening to her
@@kirstyferguson7194 yes! My throat hurts just listening to it. Sounds so damaging to her cords

Her voice is naturally nasally. It’s less straining, and more her just not singing that loud.

I also cried when she smashed it.😭 Like I don't care if you have a back up, don't smash a cello period.
I feel as though a lot of Americans where comparing this to there musicals but as a Brit I saw this as more of a panto. If you look at it like that I mean it slaps. Also the fact that people aren’t recognising James Acaster and that guy from 4o’clock club upsets me, cause I literally watched it for Acaster 😩😂
Btw Billy Porter as the fairy godmother is the best thing I’ve ever witnessed in my whole life.
100% agree - I was a few minutes in before I realised oh it’s kinda like a panto and then it made so much more sense from then on 😂
I watched it thinking it was a musical movie (like usual Disney type of movies) and I couldn't do anything but laugh of how ridiculous and pointless it was, but know that you mentioned pantomime, well, It would have made more sense that way 😆
