Great interview! I wanted to hear more. More about how Bangkok has changed, more about the books, about the concrete perceptions of what makes Thais think differently from Westerners, etc. I am sure there is enough for at least one more video.

An excellent interview Pete. Christopher G, Moore is a Bangkok legend. He is a long-term expat who is an author, story teller, gentleman and so much more. He is always so positive and productive. A few years ago, he started and organized the CCCL (Changing Climate, Changing Lives) Film Festival in Thailand to raise awareness of climate change through short films. I absolutely recommend the Vincent Calvino novels to anyone interested in Bangkok and Thai culture. The novels are a window into Thai society, culture and crime. Thank you Pete for interviewing Christopher.
This gentleman speaks to my belief system. Last year I retired youngish, sold my home, car and everything else, gave away many possessions and threw out the rest of it and left Vancouver for a new home in Thailand. The more stuff you have the more responsibility you have. Stuff requires space and space costs money. Taxes, insurance etc. I left with a backpack. I've never felt so free. And a year later I met my dream girl, got married and, although I'm financially secure, we both still embrace the minimalist lifestyle. I am a lucky man however none of it would have been possible without reevaluating what is important to me in life. I'd rather spend my money on experiences than things.
My first trip to Bangkok( with my brother) in 1972.After 30 years I visited Bkk again with a Thai friend and his families, then kept on visiting Bangkok and other provinces till 2019...Stop travelling coz of Covid.
Great interview Pete, Christopher has some great stories! Loved to hear what it was like to live in Bangkok Thailand in 1980's, when it was a real adventure being cut off from the rest of the world. Just amazing! Always look forward to your interview videos Pete. How about a day in the life of Paddy Doyle or Mark Wiens.
Well Pete I am truly impressed now you scored a big one there I remember waiting for every book that was coming out so I could read it cover to cover and savor every page. He paints an incredible picture with vivid detail ahas dove deep into thai culture on many different economic planes. Great interview
I like this dude; warm and engaging. I enjoyed his perspective, as it was different to other people I know who have lived here since the 80s... keep them coming Pete!
This was an exceptional interview with tremendous insights. I was able to fully appreciate the old school stories of Bangkok. Although my first trip was in January of 1993, I was able to somehow relate to the stories of Bangkok in the late eighties (my father has traveled to Thailand 40 times dating back as early as 1982). I listened to and watched this interview very closely (no scrolling or reading of comments which leads to distraction). I loved this interview!
An example of a well balanced expat , his well groomed appearance , the dyed hair and smart black shirt complements his story . An enjoyable likeable natural character who does not project a load of bull s### . I wish him every success and would certainly watch out for his future appearances and reminiscences
Ah Peter, you're a master interviewer! I love crime stories set in the Far East and Chris Moore is one of my favorite storytellers. Incredibly interesting discussion. I hope to revisit Bangkok again soon. If so, I'll try to reach out to you. Have a few stories to tell. I was almost sunk by a German submarine in the Canary Islands! I was also involved in the Cultural Revolutionary over-spill into HK (1966-67). BKK is such a special place. I'm so glad you're there to enlighten (and entertain) us with such interesting guests. Thank you!
I've been reading Christopher Moore's books since the 1990s, and loved his Calvino character. I even got to meet Cristopher back in the 90s one night in Therme.
Yes, I'll add my agreement to the other comments. I love his colorful style of speaking. No profanity just interesting story telling that I could have listened to all day. 👍🏾
Great stuff Pete! I always wish I had someone around to talk to that new BKK back in the 60’s thru the 80’s. I never got there myself till 1995. I always wondered what life was like before the BTS began construction. I saw a good Netflix Series called “The Serpent” about BKK in the 70’s and I thought that was pretty cool to look back to that time in BKK but it left me even more curious. Hope you get this interesting Author back for another interview someday
Thanks Bradley, I've always been fascinated with Bangkok's history and those that spent many years here. Christopher will be on again in the coming weeks mate
Wonderful, I read his work often when I first came in 2000. Love the insights into his thinking on living outside your culture. Wish the interview was longer, I’d love to hear how he made the adjustments and how he worked his way into the thai language. I still refer to his book Heart Talk, both for the vocabulary and for the cultural insights .
I read my first Christopher G Moore book in 1999. I was travelling on a train up to Chiang Mai from Bangkok and someone had left it on the train so I started reading. Moore really does capture the Farang experience in Thailand really well and it's all done with this fantastic and exciting backdrop of the seedy criminal underbelly of Thailand and SE Asia. Calvino is a great character and I'd really love to see a TV series (done well of course!) featuring him and his adventures. Can't wait to see the collab with BKK Pat!

I first went to Thailand in the early 90s and spent most of the time in the north east - reading was the Bangkok Post (if and when the local book shop had it on that day) but when I was in BKK I would browse the expensive English language book stores and always see Christopher's books. I never read any but now that I have seen the man behind the books I will! Thanks for the interview, both of you.

I enjoyed talking to the old heads from the sixties and seventies about Bangkok and Thailand in general one thing about it time just keeps moving on and things change so you have to enjoy it while you can because when you come back it may be gone. I was there for the 1st time in the late eighties and I was just blown away by all the exotic fluorescent signage mixed in with the smell of diesel and 2 stroke smoke raw garbage in the streets along with sewage trenches insence and exotic flowers with oven like temperatures was part of the charm there was no Internet there was no sky train or Subway or cell phones. the motorcycles would jockey in position between all the cars at a red light and when the green light hits it was just a massive cloud of 2 strokes smoke I would never forget that.
Wow.!!! Fantastic interview Pete..💪🏻👌🏻👏🏻🍻 Somehow I think you gota him back for another interview.! I think you’ve only scratched the surface with this guy. So interesting!

Wow !! 34 years, super cool. This guy been through it all living in Thailand. Nice interview...Pete hit me up on LINE...I believe I gave it to you at the meet up.
I came across your channel while searching for my Thai friends restaurant update to his You tube channel. My friend is best described as Bangkok's answer to Arthur Daly with a hint of Basil Faulty thrown in. My favourite interview so far being with Khun Christopher. A really lovely trip down memory lane. I have ordered the Heart Talk book as although I speak Thai I cannot read or write Thai and should have started learning by reading Thai. I have so many funny and sad stories and now you have motivated me to write some down. From an engineer being kidnapped to another investing in a restaurant only to come home one day to find all the doors and toilet seats had vanished and his Thai wife could or would not explain what happened. A senior director on a two week visit who fell in love and paid for breast enhancement for a girl .Only the result wasn't as planned, she ended up with unlevel nipples. If only I could tell a story half as well as Christopher. All the best Tim

I could walk past a guy like that like most of us do in life and never even give it a thought just to say hello and have a chat .The stories off cam he could tell .🤦♂️The buy 10 get one free story .How sad 😕100% agree on what you said about Thailand's pace Pete ,I don't live there (i wish ) but that's why i love the Thai's and the way they live .Spot on mate ,And Chris confirms it ''Takes a certain personality '' And i know people here in the UK that won't cope with it even though they tell me they are going to live there long before their retirement and way before they can afford it 🤦♂️This is my fav one of yours to date .Thanks 👍🙏
The first time I came here was in 1987. So different then. No Internet for a couple of months would be a real strain for today's young people anywhere. Nothing to fiddle around with. They'd have to talk. Read a book, maybe. Pat Pong was fun in the late '80s/early '90s. You had to watch yourself, though. Easily ripped off in those days.
Pete BKK before the sky train OMG going from On Nut to MBK could take an hour on a good day !!!! But before the internet now we’re taking !!!!! No insta Facebook you went on holiday and went exploring with a map in your hand or ask the locals and had so much fun . The internet was dial up so if you have a hotmail you could use MSN messenger !!!!! Which was ground breaking !!!!!!!!! Great content. I understand Mr Moore totally i arrived in BKK in - 89 so i know what he meant.... Great video👍🇸🇪Sweden
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks, Ingemar for engaging with the content. Your comment is appreciated.
Great Interview Pete, again an Interesting person with a good story. 🙏
Cheers Gert
Fantastic, I can picture the scene
Wow.!!! Fantastic interview Pete..💪🏻👌🏻👏🏻🍻
Somehow I think you gota him back for another interview.! I think you’ve only scratched the surface with this guy. So interesting!
Hey Marcus, we have a part 2 in the works buddy
@@ThairishTimes Hahaha..I knew it..💪🏻👏🏻😂
Thanks, Marcus. I appreciate your very kind words.
@@booktalkconversation Pleasures all mine..
Fantastic interview, loved it
Glad you enjoyed it ☺️☺️
loved every minute!
Thanks for watching, Daniel and your kind comment.
Hi Chris. We met in Washington square.
I’m a retired Filmmaker, los Angeles.
My girl was a Phd candidate, Business Administration.
When I told her , no more privileged lot tours, no more Wrap Parties, No more Premiers.
She forgot my name. No longer a source of incomprehensible source of High Octane face.
Hop to see you again

would be cool to see an episode on Thai skateboarding scene, It is booming out there, I lived out there on and off for 5 years and met my wife there through skateboarders. Very interesting scene and kind group of people.
Interesting idea
Great interview
I remember hearing about Christopher Moore on the Bangkok Podcast.
Yep, Christopher has been on that show
Straight forward truth experience to whom I totally agree after my life here. Also 34 Years, 24/7 with Thais almost from the start. Those times you could cross Sukumvit as pedestrian just at the road. Copy's of everything, Shirt Lacoste and Duplex-Rolex been sold at the Pedestrian.. Long time ago 🤗🙏😎🇨🇷
Great times I bet
@@ThairishTimes Ongoing 👍. Wouldn't change with noone and do not regret anything for that life experiences. It's like a slow rush truth out the extasy of life you didn't imagine you will have.
But, I guess, that happened to everyone who is leaving Mama's Place and be an Expat to explore life outside of the given cage. 🤗
All the best and success for you and your life and anybody else . 🙏😎🇨🇷
Go for it, nothing is granted to be as it is NOW.
Explore, enjoy, time happens NOW . R E A L ISE it. This is what I've been teached by "them" (Thais), in my lifetime here.
Exercise it, become aware,
Therefore HAPPY 😁
Try it.....
Good luck to everyone
🙏😎🇨🇷
Thailand is full of interesting characters.
Everyone has a story to tell.
And everyone has something to sell.
A book, a bar, a you tube channel
Absolutely
Advertising has shifted to social media. As long as the story is good, I'll listen.
I enjoyed listening to Christopher's story.
4 years ago I sold my house and everything.
Everything i own will fit in 1 suitcase totally .
Believe me it feels like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
I now don't want for anything but to just enjoy living .
At 1 time I own /the bank owned 3 houses .
And now I could not be happy.
Be free and live life's to short.
Best of luck on your journey Andy
Great interview! Where is this library please?
This is AIS TCDC at Emporium mall in central Bangkok
Beautiful interview, good vibes :)
Thanks ☺️☺️
Just how he speaks it's no shock how he's made it over the years .Not read one of his books but what a nice fella.
Hey mate, I'm really glad you enjoyed this interview. We have a part 2 coming soon as well
Thank you, Geno, for the lovely comment.
Thing I wanted to ask you. The place you do your interview. Is that a public place or in your condo. It always looks nice view
It’s a public place in my condo’s building. Fantastic view
@@ThairishTimes nice one. I tired living in BKK. But broke up with the Thai girlfriend. then came
Very nice interview . Where did the interview take place?
Thanks, it was at AIS TCDC Emporium mall Bangkok
great guest great interview.
Great vlog Christopher is very talented and I will check
His books 👌👌 looking forward to a day in the life of thats a great idea 👌👌
I bet you still had gread adventures Jimmy. Going around BKK with only a map does sound exciting
Nice book plugging!!
I’ve read one of his books. Pattaya 24/7 was the title. Was a good read.
I came across that book when I was doing the research for this interview
@@ThairishTimes I think I bought it in Bangkok airport and read it on a flight home.
your going to have to stop putting thesevids out as I can't turn them off !! another great video Pete .... sure to be sure ... ol'mate keep up the good work , and yes BBK Pat is exceptional , I watch his as well cheers mate
Very nice interview. I’m currently reading the first book in the Vincent Calvino series, “Spirit house.” How can I stream the movie/doc that Christopher made with Bangkok Pat
I had a chat with Pat and he said the video is on ice for now. He wants to edit some parts and film more scenes
Need more story from him. He is a reasonable man and know well about how to live in anoter country
Quality again Pete
Cheers mark
Interview the British guys doing Bare knuckle competition fighting in Pattaya? They have been on the Thaiger morning show.
Wow, you know my hometown very very well, I believe Bang-Gok(old name of Bangkok) is already your hometown too.
It’s a magical place
@@ThairishTimes 💕💕💕

Pete you have quite the nitch in the market of u tube. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, I love a good story and love sharing them here for everyone to enjoy
Hi Pete, thanks for the great interview. since his interview with bangkok pat
i am a big fan of his. I couldn't believe I had never heard the name before. i like to read thrillers with a thai background. since that time i have read everything that is available in german. Unfortunately, that's far too little. I would like to read more books or e-books by Christoph but I can't find any more in German, maybe he has a tip for me.
I hope someone sees your comment and helps
Been looking at the comments? I must ave c a different blog?
Ciao G.More I really hope your books will be translated into Italian, especially the stories of V. Calvino,
Sad I can read only two translations, Please do something! I wanttttttttttt read more stories V.Calvino … grazie…. Ciao
Borderland Editions in Italy has plans to bring out more Calvino titles. Thanks for your kind words and encouragement.
He first came to BKK in 1988 with a suitcase and a laptop. The laptop weighed 14 pounds, 6.4 kilos. Better to have waited for an IBM Think Pad before coming to Thailand. Or, just carry around a desktop PC.
It would have been a bulky laptop that’s for sure
