Been following this man's adventure for awhile now. Obviously a really nice man, and I wish him good luck, I just hope he doesn't get sucked in with the wrong crowd, or the wrong lady, good luck to him
I’m currently in Pattaya. In Thailand for two months since 1st November. I’ve two weeks left and to be totally honest, I’ll be happy to go back home! Pattaya is good for two - three weeks but it’s the same thing over and over again! Nothing much to do apart from bar scene. Maybe better to go out 3 months and see how you like it
I've been in Pattaya since October and to be honest this is the most quiet I've ever seen the place, I know some parts are busy for this being high season the place is shockingly quiet. It can get a bit boring after a while and although it's fun going to the bars it can be a very expensive hobby, especially if quiet as you'll get plagued with requests for lady drinks.
@@seanmcgoldrick1702 been going to Thailand since 2013 and 2023 was the first time I went to Pattaya for a few days, that’s all it’s worth, really can’t understand why people stay there for 2-3 months and don’t see the rest of Thailand, if it’s growler you want, that’s literally available in every town

I get that but I admire his courage. I thought I was brave when I moved 200 miles in the Uk from South to North with no plan. What he's doing is another league but he seems quite a sensible, balanced guy.
There is going to be an exodus of people leaving the UK, Thailand is very addictive, I'm still hopelessly enchanted after 42 years. Best of luck Darren, jump in and the Universe will work for you!
I disagree. Most people watch RUclips for escapism because they are tied to the UK. Darren has no real incentive to stay in the UK. Most people dream a dream but don't have the courage to do anything
@@daveinchina I think it is very hard for people to move out of their comfort zone and I'm happy to see Darren taking a chance to change his life for the better!
Darren describes living in London is very expensive. I live in the states and the affordability index is very high and the main reason for my decision to retire to Thailand. I will be retiring in 14 months. Have researched this for over 3 years and will be going site unseen.
Wait. Don't retire to Thailand (and sell your stuff) without going there for a 2 month visit. Don't be that guy. I'm American and I've been there. It's cool but there are negatives.
He did have the option of moving back to Kent, but then thought about trying Thailand! He has a 12 month RTN option-so he will not be perm living there. I think when he comes back to UK he will live somewhere else in England!
Hey Pete. I listened to this with interest fair play to him. I’ve recently retired in uk and am now on holiday in Bangkok. When I return in the new year I’m gonna make my final plans to move to Bangkok. Probably in about 6 months. If you want we can do an interview of the process among other things.
My first trip to Thailand was Jan 1990 and boy did I fall in love…….35 years later I still love it . I love riding motorcycles so much especially in Bangkok, okay just a 125 scooter. Get to spend half my year in Canada and the other half mostly in Asia , but my base is always Bangkok. Really enjoy your channel, so thanks Pete.
Thanks for interviewing Darren John - I'm a big fan of him and his RUclips channel but I do wonder what you can actually do to fill the days if you move permanently to Thailand.
Can you not just do similar things to what you do at home, but in a warmer climate, cheaper cost of living and so on? I mean, you can travel anywhere, not just in Thailand, but countries around it for buttons. I spent a lot of my time just chilling on my balcony at night with a beer, a smoke and listening to nature.
This poor guy isn't in the right frame of mind for Thailand, let alone Pattaya. Everyone there will be checking him out for his value. Not only the bargirls, people in 7, markets , restaurants, all aware of how single men in their 50's have a few quid and are an easy touch. I saw him in Krabi watching a sunset in tears, this suggests a lack of emotional toughness which I fear will be his undoing.

Darren is a solid guy and not stupid at all. He is successful and travels often. He's already been put to the test with what he is going to vlog about in Thailand and it's not the seedy nightlife. He's already had his kids who are now grown up and is not some aloof, unsuccessful, single guy with no money trying to turn around his life in Thailand. That's not his profile at all. He just loves the culture and exploring the country. Watch his vlogs and you will see. Even before his Thailand vlogs you can tell he is a stand up, clean cut guy just from his older vlogs. All of these negative commenters are just haters that probably have never lived in Thailand and are a bit jealous. So they say these things to make themselves feel better for not being able to do the same.
Loves the culture😂😂😂 wonder what his thoughts are on, graeng jai, tam boon, naam jai. Doubtful if he speaks reads or writes Thai, doubtful if he has any Thai friends. What’s his thoughts on the patronage system, what does he think about face, what about lying, has he been asked for money yet? This guy doesn’t have a clue about Thai culture. The only advice I can give him is enrol for Thai language school as soon as possible. He probably won’t they never do.
Pal, I'm not preaching you sound confident and focused. Please ,please be careful. I've lived in Thailand for a while. I was the same but the vacuum sucks you in. Good luck
My first trip to Thailand was in 2007. Loved it all except the heat and humidity. Went back in 2009. Golf the best golf course I have ever seen. Could never afford that type of course in the USA. Went back one last time in 2011. It is very tempting to want to move there.
Life's insane. I wish this bloke all the best, but I wouldn't go to Pattaya, in fact I wouldn't go anywhere with nightlife like that. I did a similar thing to him, not to live, but to stay a couple of years. I sold all my stuff and quit my crappy job. I had a website that funded me, then it got wiped out and I had to come back broke to the UK. Got into a couple of sticky situations out there, nothing too bad, and I had an absolute blast. Would I do it again? Oh yes, I'm actively trying to, but I'd do things a bit differently and have a safety net to fall back on, hope this fella has something to fall back on.
Imagine if everyone in London who couldn’t get a job just said right I’ll go live in Thailand. Basically DJ can’t afford to live in London so he’s going somewhere where he thinks it’s cheaper. So he can just survive on his RUclips income. He basically wants a nice life without having to go to work. He is deluded
He did have the option of moving back to Kent, but then thought about trying Thailand! He has a 12 month RTN option-so he will not be perm living there as he has mentioned. I think when he comes back to UK he will live somewhere else in England!
He loves Krabi but will live in Pattaya. What a surprise.😂 For me, actually living in Krabi (Ao Nang), I love the fact that 99 percent of all white caucasian fair-skinned western European farangs just come here to visit. There are virtually no expats here alhamdulilah.
What's so great about being surrounded by tourists? Would rather have a few other foreigners around that are also living there. Unless you speak perfect thai and only spend time with locals
Great move. I do not blame him. I’m from Australia and planning the same move. It’s just unfortunate that the Western nations are going in the wrong direction.
Darren John is a personality vacum and i think he's drunk or on Xanax in this interview. I said he's going to join the "Pattaya Flying Club" on his last video and he gave me the thumbs up, lol. He's going to get rinsed in Pattaya, very naive man.
Darren fell in love with Krabi and decided to move to Pattaya? Having personally been to both, that's a curve ball decision. Good luck, anyway, buy that motorbike, get out of Pattaya, and explore.
On Darrens food channel he often turns up at restaurants at the wrong time and its closed, or expecting one type of food and its completely different. This is in London. His research is terrible, god knows what his research has been for Thailand
Somewhat agree. He came to NYC and literally went to garbage tourist trap restaurants, then, in later videos he trashed NYC and their food. Didn’t do any research.
I first went to Thailand in 1988 and had a bar a guesthouse and first in Patong and to Bangkok lived there liked it. Now 11 years in Hua hin married to a Thai for 30 yrs daughter 26yrs old and will be going in January for good.had enough of work.
Guys If he doesn’t like after being here for however long, he can always go home or somewhere else, he’s a grown man doing what he wants spending his own money , at least he doesn’t seem like the usual Pattaya eats there Good luck Darren
Pete, I like this guy. Mr. John has a pragmatic view of his next life chapter. I too understand his first experience riding a motorcycle! I was a 15yr old, 1976 CB 125 was my first ride. I too am encouraged with his story. Best wishes to Darren. BTW, I could give two poops about the night life. Not all single middle aged dudes are there for the sex tourism. 😉
He is a nice, very genuine guy but in this he comes across as so sad and uncertain about it all. I'm about to go out there myself - permanently, and I veer from being so scared to hell then full of confidence about it. I wonder if like me, he realises that whatever his head/common sense might be sternly reminding him of, that nevertheless, he knows that if he chickens out and decides not to do it he will be making life hell on earth for himself. That's just me speaking on my own behalf. I'm going, I just know that if I don't I'll spend the rest of my life despising myself for being a coward.
Go for 12 months then make a decision. Experience the weather and the wet season. Get some Thai lessons eat the food every day and don’t get involved with any ladies. Then see if you love it. I go 5 times a year to Pattaya and I’ve seen the worst of it. It’s not a paradise it’s an adventure that’s for sure.
Good Luck Darren!!! But if you want to make God laugh… Tell him your life’s plans. Just know what ever plans you have at this moment are going to change drastically in time. Not necessarily a bad thing? But just beware.

Heard this story many times including myself I put all my eggs in one basket and made a go of it couldn't have a joice financialy it was either UK or Thailand Been here 22 years living the dream NEVER return to UK I'm in the North away from the tourist and bar scene Good luck to Darren if he genuinely makes a go of it he won't look back
Good luck pal
Im.fan of darren j he honest man and great at filming .i wish him all best .great interview .😊

ขอบคุณที่รักและชอบประเทศไทยนะค่ะ! ขอให้มีความสุขกับสิ่งที่ทำในทุกๆวันค่ะ✌️🤗🇹🇭
Ive been going to pattaya since 2003, married a thai brought her to uk, we were married for 19 years of me slaving me arse away paying EVERYTHING!!!!!
We finally finish and im free and single, no more marriage or money
Off to manila soon for a holiday
The title of the video sounds a lot like mine 😅 I quit uk 🇬🇧 in March 23’ had enough & decided to come here , takes guts to be honest , but I’m proud of what I’ve done , I have no regrets at all so far , life is short .. 🙏 good luck to him too.
Why not just move to another part of UK like Isle of Wight/Devon etc???
@ same same but different , it’s still the uk. 🇬🇧 I love the Yorkshire coast but not enough to stay there .. 👋
Should of asked him what his stream of income will be.
Sure that's his business?
@@Johng56 exactly, and last thing he needs are his future predators knowing about his money situation
His boring know it all vids of him stuffing his face certainly won't pay the bills.
He has a pension and youtube
@@Nunos645cgh That was my guess.....he finished quite high up in the construction business....no pun intended 🙂

@@athitaya6898give him a chance
@@athitaya6898 Yeah, duh, he's been there 3 days.
He reminds me of the guy from "Thailand Bound" before he moved to Thailand permanently. I hope he gets to make the move sooner than later.
Pal, I'm not preaching you sound confident and focused. Please ,please be careful. I've lived in Thailand for a while. I was the same but the vacuum sucks you in. Good luck
And yes I sold my bikes too, except one MOT exempt which I use when I go back
Careful of what exactly?
@@thedoode22 just be careful
My first trip to Thailand was in 2007. Loved it all except the heat and humidity. Went back in 2009. Golf the best golf course I have ever seen. Could never afford that type of course in the USA. Went back one last time in 2011. It is very tempting to want to move there.
Anyone over 50 going to retire in Pattaya is going there for one reason 🥴
So what. Live life!
I was bored to tears there when I was 38!
@@clivebaxter6354 U must be bored everywhere then, there is no more interesting fun place than Thailand period!!

Has Pattaya got good beaches ? 😂
Well done Darren England is finished. Hope you find the best place for you.
Finished PMSL

He's one of the biggest RUclips Beggers I've ever come across
He did have the option of moving back to Kent, but then thought about trying Thailand!
He has a 12 month RTN option-so he will not be perm living there as he has mentioned.
I think when he comes back to UK he will live somewhere else in England!
He loves Krabi but will live in Pattaya. What a surprise.😂
For me, actually living in Krabi (Ao Nang), I love the fact that 99 percent of all white caucasian fair-skinned western European farangs just come here to visit. There are virtually no expats here alhamdulilah.
What's so great about being surrounded by tourists? Would rather have a few other foreigners around that are also living there. Unless you speak perfect thai and only spend time with locals
Thought the Thais treated arabs and Indians badly, what made you stay?
Be surprised if he isnt back in the UK within 6 months
Great move. I do not blame him. I’m from Australia and planning the same move.
It’s just unfortunate that the Western nations are going in the wrong direction.
America is correcting itself. 😊
You learn to look behind the smile
Daren, Darren, Darren, tell me about the ladyboys
Tony Tony Tony!! Does your mother know....
Darren John is a personality vacum and i think he's drunk or on Xanax in this interview. I said he's going to join the "Pattaya Flying Club" on his last video and he gave me the thumbs up, lol. He's going to get rinsed in Pattaya, very naive man.
Definitely go for longer than a few weeks before even thinking about making the move permanent..
Good luck. I'd consider other parts of Thailand personally, Pattaya is not representative of normal Thailand.
It sounds like you are trying to talk him out of it?
I've moved countries permanently without even visiting before
Pete's seen a million of this exact type of guy over the years and knows what happens to them, c'mon
Darren fell in love with Krabi and decided to move to Pattaya? Having personally been to both, that's a curve ball decision. Good luck, anyway, buy that motorbike, get out of Pattaya, and explore.
The only thing he fell in love with, was himself
On Darrens food channel he often turns up at restaurants at the wrong time and its closed, or expecting one type of food and its completely different. This is in London. His research is terrible, god knows what his research has been for Thailand
Somewhat agree. He came to NYC and literally went to garbage tourist trap restaurants, then, in later videos he trashed NYC and their food. Didn’t do any research.
Don't trust anyone
I hope this chap is careful. Pattaya to my eye didn’t seem so good.
I first went to Thailand in 1988 and had a bar a guesthouse and first in Patong and to Bangkok lived there liked it. Now 11 years in Hua hin married to a Thai for 30 yrs daughter 26yrs old and will be going in
January for good.had enough of work.
I've been to hua hin. What are the 2 big drawbacks for living there long term.
Guys
If he doesn’t like after being here for however long, he can always go home or somewhere else, he’s a grown man doing what he wants spending his own money , at least he doesn’t seem like the usual Pattaya eats there
Good luck Darren
Darren John is a proper Manchild! ❤
Unbelievable !
Given time, he will tire of Pattaya and end up in Bangkok or Hua Hin. I have seen many good men meet their demise by overstaying Pattayas lifestyle.
Good attitude stay in most nights specially in patts ❤
He talks Shitte..just beggin no..Shame really but to slag viewers off... Overspending etc.. London he was fine.. needs to upgain stay !!
Good Luck Darren!!! But if you want to make God laugh… Tell him your life’s plans. Just know what ever plans you have at this moment are going to change drastically in time. Not necessarily a bad thing? But just beware.
Not the sharpest pencil in the pencil case, our Dazza, but we wish him well
Obviously he's not too dumb if he has a nice big 2 br flat in London, flies business class, and is traveling every few months. He has some money.

There seems to be a bit of expat gatekeeping in the comments, all feels a bit rich from all these guys who couldn’t attract or keep women back home so went and made the exact same move but for different reasons ie to exploit the poverty divide with Thai women where as DJ is going for the culture
Even a mouldy loaf of bread 🍞 has culture!
Most of the comments from broke expats who spent their life savings on the girls.

Not really, he has money. He's not a dumb guy. Also there are single 75 year old European women that are retired in Pattaya. Half the place are Europeans over 50. He'll be perfectly fine.

Darran John is a great guy. Reminds me of myself, a man over 50, been through the mill, not looking for anything, only peace and fulfilment. Proud to be subscribed to his channel.
I started following Darren’s channel when I came across it by chance. He has taken a big step to make himself happy and all the best luck to him. He does seem very content with his decision. Great vlog Pete
