It’s not really the earlier scenes it’s the fact that y’all thought Ned hooked up with Lyanna in that reveal in season 6 lmao because there were Targaryen soldiers guarding the tower. Lyanna was in the tower giving birth. Who would have sent Targaryens to guard Lyanna and keep her and the baby safe? I do think the earlier scenes are complied to really hit home that Ned was honorable and he would choose the people he loves over honor. Like he only confessed to treason because he wanted to keep his family safe. He became known as a cheater to keep his nephew safe from Robert’s wrath.
History is told by the victors. In today’s time it was still rape since Rhaegar was quite older than Lyanna but she grew to love him the same. In this world it’s not really considered like that I guess, they ran away together in this world. Robert became the king and that was the story for why he couldn’t protect his love.

Lets be honest here. You remember these finer details because you have seen GoT more than once, I’d venture more then 3 times, especially as a reaction watcher. And also, they are NOT the only ones who thought Ned and Lyanna. I’ve seen more then a handful of reactors think that first and then realize, no. What I have not seen is a lot of reactors who instantly got who John’s parents are from the tower of joy scene.

    • @neonoires
      @neonoires Год назад +2

@@izattyu6863 Well no. Someone pointed out that reaction channels who watch it post-GOT don't get it but back then when the show was airing and people were reacting to it they knew. I guess it was the culture of people devouring everything they could about the story without actual spoilers. I read the books so I knew about it possibly being a thing. But thinking Ned is the dad was still rare. They're the only people I've seen who thought that. If others thought that then I missed their reactions or something because even if they don't connect Lyanna and Rhaegar in the moment (I'll give them that and I mentioned this... reread my comment) they still don't assume that Ned is the father of his sister's son. In case anyone else needs me to say this again, I don't fault people for not connecting R+L=J based on scenes they'd have to recall in the past. MY shock was them thinking Ned was still the dad even though it made no sense and no one mentioned her pregnancy ever until that moment. Game of Thrones definition of incest (not including European royal and noble traditions of marrying cousins) says that sibling incest is frowned upon outside of the Targaryen tradition which has been evidenced for 8 seasons with how Cersei and Jaime are looked at... even with the Targaryen madness stigma being linked to their incest. SO yeah, it's a bit baffling that people jump to Ned and Lyanna being a thing given this world's stance on incest.

Ned did NOT think the Targaryens were cool people. They burned his dad and bother alive. (although to be fair, I don’t think they do a good job of communicating that in the show.)
Ned literally fought a war to depose the Targaryens. Everything he did was to protect his sisters child I don’t think he cared one way mother about Rhaegar

You talk about it like you were expected to figure out Jons heritage before the episode were it was revealed.
    You are not!
The same as with Hodors back story. It is very unlikely to figure this out before it was revealed just by watching the show. But it is really cool to see all the hints the were in the earlier episodes.
At least it was for me.
I watched several reaction channels while the show was still running. No one figured out about Jons heritage before this specific episode. And you aren't the only ones that were thinking Ned might have been the father.
I also read the books and did not figure out who Jon's parents were. But I read about the R + L = J fan theory online. When I read it I knew it must be true. It was so unfitting for Ned to cheat on his wife. But to take this secrete to his grave to protect Jon and hold his promise to his sister was very much Ned Stark.

Jon is a Targaryen so it makes sense that Ned would oppose Robert wanting to kill them, to the point that he would resign.
Also the reason Ned pushed for Jon to join the nights Watch is because then he would have no claim to the throne and he would no longer be a "threat" to Robert. That's why he was only willing to tell him about his mother after he joined the watch.

GRRM wasn't at all heavily involved in Season 1 scripting and said on his blog he was using his time to focus on finishing WoW lol but he did recently say he was really involved for Season 2. In Season 1 the show writers did actually make some changes from the book that kind of gave a taste that they could potentially mess some things up in the future, which I think is the reason why I think GRRM came in to help with Season 2 to keep them on course.

    • @Freya1412
      @Freya1412 Год назад +1

@@FunkayJunk yeah GRRM is only the EXECUTIVE PRODUCER on HOTD. That's not heavily involved at all right. He said he didn't script ( though did give his input and was involved in that process)any episodes but will probably write a few for season two. He legit needs to focus on his work as a author but I'm sure like any creator of the original work, would love to be more involved and is making that happen for season 2. Btw nothing GRRM said implied he believes they will mess up his work. You are probably butt hurt because you don't like how one side or the other was portrayed but remember the book this is based on is a history told by 3rd parties, sometimes we have multiple different versions of events depending on who is telling it. The show is giving us POV from the characters themselves as events happended. I personally think they tied up things well for major events to where it won't effect the ultimate conclusion but might change the perspective given by 3rd parties in fire and blood. My only criticism is we could have had more time with to develop characters of the children of Rhaenyra and Alicent but I get they wanted a certain pacing and it works.

    • @FunkayJunk
      @FunkayJunk Год назад +1

If thats the case he easily could have been involved with season 1, whats making him less busy now than he was when they were writing Season 1? So he's more busy during covid when nothing was open than he is post covid with WOW not even finished? &im not "butt hurt" over anything, im not trying to spoil for S & M but when i say there are signs, I mean like adding in scene not in the book that had no logic and was only put in for spectacle, where Sara Hess says in the ep behind the scenes she only put a scene in bc "I just thought it would be awesome and cool' but in turn created more questions and made characters look stupid as hell, and will look stupid down the line since we know the character's outcomes. This is the type of shit D&D did in the later seasons. Like I get the POV excuse but when they made Rhaenys do something extreme like "THAT" apparently none of the historians remembered the event or think it was significant to put in the History text book?? That's bc that event absolutely didn't happen, don't excuse bad writing. To this day everyone still questions why Dany didn't just fly to the red keep from the beginning bc it was stupid of her not to making characters like Tyrion look stupid in the process. And you have Matt Smith revealing a lot of his great scenes are not from the script and things he improvised. So yeah, I'm glad George is now more involved, even though he should be finishing the books, because he will help to keep important things on course from here on out and hopefully they listen to him on everything. I only said there's potential for them to go off course, it's just Season 1, but GRRM always talked about D&D and their changes in the early seasons he would advise against (like keeping Bron around bc he was popular) can lead to a negative butterfly affect, saying "And for just as long, I have been talking about the butterfly effect. Small changes lead to larger changes lead to huge changes." Them already doing stuff like this so early does give reason to be cautious.

You have a point guys. The main reason that the community even managed to read between the lines to arrive to the conclusion before the reveals were ever made in the series, was because there was literally years between each season. Everyone had endless time to rewatch every season like 10 times, read the books again and again and discuss them all without end, theorize etc etc. This way its easier to make the connections. Its still very nice though that this happened, it joined the community into finding all this stuff early, what other show ever accomplishes such a feat? None is the answer pretty much. We were lucky they filmed it this way at least true to G.R.R. Martin's intentions about Jon's parentage. Even though they messed up in the end.
PS : Good luck with the books, its very unlikely that they will ever be finished. Still good to check but I hate the fact that they might never be finished.

Part of the reason people think, or it was possibly portrayed that Baelish knew, is because Petyr was hold up at an Inn nursing his wounds after the duel with Brandon & being kicked out by Hoster for sleeping with Lysa. The likely Inn would have been on a main route that Rhaegar & Lyanna would have taken to leave, which they did around the time he was recovering. So he could have easily seen them, and because of his rage against Brandon for his bethrothal to Cat & injuring him, he spread the rumor that Lyanna was taken by Rhaegar, because he also knew Brandon was impulsive and quick to agression, and would do something brash to rescue his sister that might get him killed.
Ned & Howland Reed who was with him at the Tower of the Hand, possibly Benjen, and eventually Petyr would have been the only ones alive after Rhaegars & Lyannas deaths who would have known more of the truth.
Anyone else in Westeros would have believed the lie, until it was otherwise revealed. It should have been much more of reveal to the seven kingdoms in the show imo, but they slagged off on all that.
And the books are not finished. That is why these are still theories. But the books (and so theories) started almost 30 yrs ago, so some of them are pretty solid.
No one expected anyone to know R+L=J on the first episode lol. We just understood the point with Jon was Ned is so honorable that he disgraced honor on the surface to protect his family underneath it all, so continuing to think Ned was actually dishonorable through an incestous relationship with Lyanna was too much to let slide. It makes sense you still thought of Ned as Jons father, but they made sure to say r-worded every time they mentioned her being kidnapped and we just couldn't get past thinking Ned was actually dishonorable, when the entire scene was explicitly revealing that he was honorable to fault (& ultimately to death even).

I just want to add though that Jon is probably not Aegon Targaryen as there already is one, unless Rhaegar decided to have him fill as "do-over" to fulfill the prophecy. He is most likely Aemon Targaryen, 2nd of his name? And Aegon (who has worked with the faceless men) is still alive and will return Monte Cristo style to dance with Dany, and Jon (and ultimately end up with Arya). (my theory)
And Lyanna probably fled with Rhaegar because she didn't want to be with hotheaded & possessive Robert Baratheon. Another point they could have made explicit so people might understand that she wasn't simply kidnapped.
Edit: I'm also going to say even though absolutely not a single soul is reading this, that I knew his mother was Lyanna when Ned said "we'll talk about her when I get back". Because if she was just some random, he would have explained that years ago and left it at that. Why would it matter that much who she is? Why would he seem so pained about it ... unless she was dead? ... unless she meant something so deep to him that he couldn't speak of it? But they're presenting him as honorable. Who's identity would he want to protect with everything? And then my favorite Christmas movie popped into my head.
In Alistar Sims Scrooge there is a scene with Scrooge at his sister's bedside while she is dying in childbirth. She says "Promise me, Ebeneezer". "Promise me you'll take care of my boy." And then her hand goes limp and the baby cries. Scrooge looks at the cradle with disdain and leaves, but after the three spirits, he regrets not keeping his promise to his sister and in my favorite scene he apologizes to his loving nephew and dances with his bride. The scenes are very powerful and since I've watched it almost every year I knew only a brother's love for a sister could make one so pained with grief at the sight of her child. That reveal scene in GoT is pretty much cut and paste from Scrooge, except Ned kept his promise throughout.
My friend who introduced me to the show was surprised I guessed that, but honestly I wasn't sure who the father was, but I didn't assume it was Ned because he did not abandon the child like Scrooge, so his honor was solidified for me.

By the end of book one, i think most people that read the books knew Jon was Lyanna's. The show had to compress a lot of details and backstory. the books laid it out better and we get chapters from Ned himself...so we learn that Ned is a hardcore man of honor and wouldn't cheat on Cat. There is a lot of evidence in the books that didn't make it on the tv screen

It’s definitely fair to say that you guys were at a disadvantage in figuring this out because you’re basically binging it and recording it for your reaction which doesn’t usually allow for a lot of detailed watching and time to consider what you saw. we did have lots of time to think about the. However, you probably should not try to blame the show for being too subtle. It wouldn’t of been much reveal if it was as obvious as you are acting like it should’ve been.

Dany was also technically Ned’s sister in law. Another reason he would recoil at Robert wanting him to help kill her.
The fact that the little hints were “background” kind of things is what makes the whole thing great. Hidden in plain sight. They said over and over how honorable Ned was and how out of character for him to cheat was.
You guys are being too defensive. We’re not judging you. It’s hard in a comment without the inflection of voice to get a point across without it being taken in the wrong way.
When Barristan, an honorable knight, said that Danny’s brother was “the greatest man I ever met” That’s when I clued in that that story was important.

Howland Reed is the only living person that knew Jon was Lyanna's child. The rest that knew, or had an idea, died. Well Howland Reed and the head members of House Dayne probably. Ashara Dayne probably knew...and there is a theory she is Howland Reed's wife...and the mother to Jogen and Mira.
Petyr Baelish and Varys didn't know Jon was Lyanna's. Petyr probably figure out it wasn't kidnapping or rape....but he didn't know about the child. Varys probably didn't know much about it at all...or at least didn't know about Jon either. That is why Varys backed Dany and this other guy that is in the books but he isn't in the TV show.

I think they did a pretty good job dropping small hints from time to time. No one knew that Ned wasn't his father, people only guessed that based on the information in the first video. But it was pretty obvious that Rhaegar was the father when the show revealed that Lyanna Stark is his mother. I guess you just didn't pick that up because you always talked over a good part of the scenes that were shown in the second video without pausing (attention is the key to everything, remember that for future movies and shows).
Most of us didn't read the books before and even the books don't confirm it (but as we heard at the end of the second video: the showrunners talked about it to the author and he approved)
It's okay, you don't have to get defensive about it, not everyone catched things immediately.

It was the egos of the two show runners, HBO offered to hire more writers to take the load off their shoulders because the writer of the books was willing to take the show to 11episodes but they couldnt handle other people getting credit for how great the show is and also they were getting offers for right to left and simply wanted to wrap up the show as quick as they could to start doing other things but unfortunetly without the books and George's writing they were exposed as frauds who ruined what was becoming the greatest TV series of all time.
Everyone involved with the show was not happy with how they ended the show, Kit Harrington the guy who play Jon Snow was clearly the one who felt hard done by them, because his story was ruined by the feminine agenda that had hit Hollywood at that time but ive heard that HBO is considering taking up a GOT spin off called Snow which would be a try at a redemption storyline at to finishing off "the prince that was promised" prophecy in a better way with better writers

But that said.... I also think it's realistic that Cersie messed with Danny as much as she did AND that Danny's response was also realistic in burning everyone to the ground. IT would have been way cooler to see them flex Westeros together - I agree - but I also enjoyed how realistic the ending was too.

We only have cool fan theories because of the waiting period between seasons or shows. Theorizing and thinking about characters and (hidden) plots is always a great special extra thing we get to do and it is fun! Sometimes a viewers mind will remember or recognize small implications and piece them together to a big brain important detail that would otherwise have been missed, but now that one got it, the viewers mind will be blown away. 🧐
For some it is small hints on Jon "Aegon Targaryen" Snow, for other people it's the Starbucks coffee cup or the small water bottles. 👌😁

History is told by the victors. In the 1st few episodes Cersei told Geoffrey something like "when you're king, the truth is what you make it." That pretty much sums up the situation. One side dies and the other side isn't there to give their account. So, those left alive get to spread propaganda. Pretty sure King Robert wouldn't want people thinking he started a whole war because his gf chose someone else. So, he made up a story. And everyone repeats it because they don't know any better.

The excuses in this video are comical 😂😂😂 Yes, I would have a hard time keeping up and feel like the series was scrambled too if I talked during 50% of the dialogue and did not pay attention to context clues, emphasized camera shots, body language and non-verbal queues of the actors, etc. Your viewers and subs were asking you to pay attention more and not talk over the dialogue…. Clearly this was ignored, so your reactions continued to be filled with ridiculous questions because you were confused because your were not paying attention and missed something because you were talking. And your closing commentary was just as bad because you guys missed so much…. You guys would not pick up on a lot of things until like 8 episodes later…. Because y’all DID NOT PAY ATTENTION! I hung in there because I am a fan of the show, your physical reactions were very good, but that is is. The commentary and breakdowns were trash 🗑️! So, I will not be subscribing. I hope you guys work on things to improve and wishing you the best of luck! FYI, It is okay to admit that ya’ll talked to much during the dialogue of the show which kept y’all confused and lost during your reactions…. Just like it is okay to admit ya’ll were wrong about Dany, she turned out to be just like her father-genocidal Mad Queen (saying you don’t care she burned the innocent citizens after the city had surrendered because she could not control her emotions and temper in grieving, sounds bat ish crazy). We questioning you Sophie because you are arguing something that doesn’t make sense. We all were disappointed with ending. I guess dragons make sense Sophie? You are being really obtuse and not willing to even take information in. Jon was meant to rule because he was the rightful heir. Not Dany. Stop trying to tell us how to feel. You are broadcasting yourself then get mad about our opinion. We are fans of GOT we watched you watch and get information wrong. Move on you all were wrong about Ned and Lyanna and it didn’t make sense when you said that they were together and Ned was father. You are wrong not us we watched the show too and everyone knew what that reveal meant and no one believed it was Ned’s bastard after season 6 episode 10 except you and nothing pointed to that.
I watched show from beginning and to have Dany conquer Essos is one thing but when she tries to make Jon bend the knee and talking about harming Sansa and Arya. NO Arya and Sansa and Jon feel like family because they grew up in front of us. I would never support Dany over the Starks. Dany threatened to snd did burn cities to the ground killing thousands 31:37 of innocent people. NO
I remember when you guys started watching and Sophie acting all timid like she didn’t want to see violence and now she okay with killing and burning people? When Dany was burning the city down you guys said why is Arya there and she shouldn’t be there like you all didn’t watch her journey and where she came from just oh well she shouldn’t be there. If Dany would’ve killed Arya by burning her I would have hated her deeply.
Dany killing everyone because Cersai killed everyone is not an excuse for Dany almost killing everyone. We believe Dany was wrong and don’t support her killing everyone. You all feel it is okay for her to kill everyone so she can get throne and keep it including Arya Sansa Tyrion Jon because they shouldn’t have been there along with the thousands of other people? Okay NO we don’t agree. Now please move on stop telling us how to feel. We know how we feel. We questioned you and your feelings after what you saw is the issue. If you feel like Dany could kill everyone just move on.
Finally we all critiqued and criticized the writing. But I’m not a writer and neither are you two so we all pretty much agree episode 4-6 in season 8 we’re not great but you all are dragging it. Please move on to next show stop trying to justify how you feel cause we not going to change how we feel about the show nor how we feel about your reaction to the show so. Just please move on.

Sophie, you’re 1000% correct - there was no point in the show for John dying and coming back. He didn’t change. There were no consequences, no reason for this plot point. In the books, I think it will be very different. John will be different when he comes back. There will be consequences.
There is a LOT more magic in the books. More characters. A lot of differences. Most good, some not. Listen to the audiobooks.

So as far as where the books are at the stories end when Jon is killed. We've all been waiting over a decade to see what happens in the storyline. Yes the show continued on and used notes from J.R.R. Martin but they still went in their own direction. Part of me thinks that Martin has completely started to re write the next books because of the backlash from the series ending. He's denied it but I think that has to play some part.

That break doesn't sound like the brightest idea. Life happens, things happen, people age, people die etc and as you can see in 2024 we still don't have a new book. They consulted with the author of the book to get his end game and he gave it to them and it was their job to fill in the details. The rushed the details because they were trying to get to the Star Wars movie (which they got kicked off of because they fumbled here lol) It would've been fleshed out more with 2 full 10 episode seasons. Oh and the 1st theory video was well before the reveal in the show and while watching it wasn't as obvious to everyone, it was a theory that turned out to be correct.
