One more connect-the-dots for ya… if Robert married Lyanna, he and Ned would’ve been brothers-in-law. In the first episode, this is what gives them the idea to marry Sansa and Joffrey to unite their families. Don’t be hard on yourself, it all seems obvious in hindsight
In the books, Jon is about 14 when he leaves for the Night's Watch, so Ned kept the secret for that long. Also - rewatch the clip with Sansa and Littlefinger in the crypt. When Sansa says "And then he raped her," watch Littlefinger's face. He knows that Rhaegar loved Lyanna....and perhaps he knows more?
Personally I also think Sean Bean (Ned) also knew that from jump coz GRRM says he wanted to make sure the producers knew who Jon's mother was before giving them the go ahead to make the show. Probably so they knew that the writing and the acting had to reflect that it was a secret that only Ned knew the whole time
I've seen some reviewers along the way who watch "History and Lore" of Game of Thrones told in cartoon form. There's some for every seasons and it makes them understand that World better. Like "Robert's Rebellion" for example. This was the event that made Robert become King. He loved Ned's sister Lyanna and she was kidnaped by Rhaegar Targaryen. And so he launched an all out attack on the Mad King(Rhaegar's father) and the Crown. And with the help of the Lannisters and Starks. they won the war and annihilated the Targaryens. Robert stroke the final blow by killing Rhaegar with his huge hammer. But it was too late, Lyanna died.
It's normal that you missed it , bear in mind that when this came out , this was a huge theory by fans and just waiting to be confirmed , so when this episode came out , youtube was filled with content about this theory so people knew to a degree even if they didn't pick it up watching the show.. I don't remember myself figuring this out by just watching the show , I already had a suspicion and was interested in Rhaegar's character so I watched a lot of videos about him during this time.
9:04 it's not just his Hatred for Targaryens , Untill Daenerys or Viserys are alive Roberts claim would be weak as Robert is their Cousin. His Grandma was Targaryen. That's how he Got the Throne , He made that Claim. Also , in these scenes NED was trying to PROTECT JON's KIN the whole time.
While I think the show did a great job for the casual viewer, once you want to know more you see they don’t explain it well. Based on books you have a sequence of events: 1) Rhaegar is married to Ellis Martel and has 2 children. But he’s obsessed with the prophecy “the dragon has 3 heads” but his wife can’t have another child. 2) Kings Landing is pretty close to civil war between Team Rhagar and his dad the Mad King 3) Robert Baratheon is engaged to Ned’s sister Lyanna. Ned’s elder brother is engaged to Catlyn. 4) There’s a tournament (the tournie at harrenhaal) which is supposed to be Rhagar’s shining moment but the Mad King shows up (on Varys suggestion). Rhagar wins this tournament but instead of claiming victory in the name of his wife he does it in the name of Lyanna. This cause Robert Baratheon to become mental (and in my opinion proves Rhagar is a ****). 5) Lyanna and Rhagar disappear. Ned’s elder brother rides to kings landing demanding Rhagars head (but he’s not there). 6) The mad king arrested Ned’s brother and demands his father comes and explain himself. Mad king executes them all. Ned now marries Cat (to ally winterfell and the river lands). 7) Mad king demands Ned (now lord of winterfell) and Robert Baratheon (as lyanna’s fiancé) come answer. They refused which causes Roberts rebellion (the arryns of the vale are involved here but no importance). 8) Rhagar finally shows up. Robert Baratheon kills Rhagar. 9) Lannisters were sitting on the fence but massacre kings landing killing Rhagars 2 children. Danaerys (Rhagar’s sister) and Viserys escape. 10) Robert Baratheon didn’t order this but was happy about it. This drives Ned mental and he refuses to serve Robert because of it. 11) Neds finds his sister with Jon Snow. Promises his sister to keep him secret. Probably to protect him but it’s never really explained why. Ned probably protects him more knowing Robert was happy about the death of Targaryen children. 12) Ned returns to winterfell with a child and tells Cat who has a young Robb Stark to never talk or ask him about it. Jon as the son of Rhagar has a stronger claim than Daenerys. And that’s Roberts Rebellion summarised. I’m available for hire and consultancy 😂😂

BTW there was a chick who used to do reaction for the show The Last Kingdom(great show!). She was pretty great at it and her channel was new but she had a lot of views by this reaction. But anyway she stopped reacting cause she said by talking she was missing a lot of the show and she loved it too much. So she chose instead to watch the show on her own and then she would do a review on her channel. The fans were pissed. lol And then she deleted her channel. 🤣
Who do you think Rhaenyra and Viserys are talking about all the time in HOTD? 'From my blood will come the promised prince who will unite the kingdoms against the threat from the north?' Yes, a Targaryen who from the first season his plot is the north and the white walkers.
During the filming of the series every actor was told a secret about their character. So Sean Bean knew that Ned Stark knew Jon was Lyanna's, and the actor playing Robert (forgot his name) wasn't told that. In the books it's not yet revealed who Jon's mother is. So even if the actors read all the books up to this date they still wouldn't find an answer on a lot of things that happened on the show.
If she had known who his mother really was, Kat would have loved him. But I guess Ned was right. no one could know who Jon really was (though I think Benjen knew).
to be honest, you don’t need to kick yourself a bunch about missing these sort of details. part of why i think this show was initially so pleasing to watch was bc of how dense it is. going back felt satisfying and you experienced some pay off now that you had so many clues but still needed to revisit their trace so you can stitch them together. it took me rewatching to catch a lot of these things. this video does a good job at condensing it all. also cat did hate jon. like her whole life. jon’s only memories of her i’m sure are full of her contempt for him. i think she knows she’s a piece of shit for it, but her stubbornness applies to her grudges too it seems. a character strength and flaw for her, much like ned’s stubborn sense of honor and morality. they’re a perfect match tbh.
The actor (Lord Stark) knew, I believe George RR Martin or the show-runners told him. This show is goes so deep, unbelievably fleshed out and rich, it's hard to believe it all came from the mind of 1 man. Almost everything written has it's own story behind it, and gets woven in intricately to the main plot. The book is called "A Song of Ice & Fire", Jon's story alone could be The Song of Ice & Fire because of his bloodline. We've been waiting almost 12 years so far for the next book. Season 7 picks up as entirely fictional writing by the showrunners, and you'll probably notice shortcomings compared to earlier seasons.
To be fair..Most people missed most of these clues. Many of them were mixed in while we were all trying to remember names and families the main plot and the comments about Lyanna seemed so trivial while we were all preoccupied with the mystery of Joffery's parents etc.. Season one had so much to digest. When you look back in a video like this it's easy to see but spread out over all the seasons you can't blame anyone for missing some of it. I'm surprised the video didn't include Bran's flashback scene before this one where Ned fought Arthur Dayne and asked why he wasn't elsewhere protecting Rhaegar and Dayne said Rhaegar "wanted him here". Ned looked up at the tower and said "Where's my sister?" All the clues were there. Easy to miss tho.
This video didn't show brans vision of the ser author Dane scene because this video was made after season 5 episode 10... there are no scenes from season 6 in this r +l=j
Don’t be too hard on yourself for not picking up on this. The show is designed to trick viewers into not thinking too hard about John’s origins. We just take it for granted that he is Ned’s bastard, like everyone else in Westeros. Even John has no idea- giving Ygritte’s catchphrase “You know nothing John Snow” much more meaning: he has no idea that he is a Targaryen, the Prince Who was Promised.

R+L=J is just the most popular theory who his mother is and what funny Martin Asked Who is Jon Snow mother ? and he never asked about father I wonder if he was giving us hints.
Nah I don't think it'd be believable if Ned cheated.
@@d3l3tes00n but he has and had brother also it don't have to be him
?? Cat never accepted Jon as a son nor did she love him lol that’s the point. She always hated him for something he couldn’t control. She always treated Jon as a bastard meaning not her kid. When she say she couldn’t keep her promise she means she couldn’t love him like her own.
that’s what i said? thought i said lmao
@@mattyreacts lmao nah I heard you say of course she loved him and treated him like a son. I was so confused when you said that I immediately went to the comments 😂🤣
@@Caraxes_RoguePrince i mean i think i mean that as like eventually she came around to him and obv didn’t love him as much as the others but some what loved him for what he was
@@mattyreacts but that’s not true…she never came around to him or even somewhat loved him for what he was lmao idk what you talking bout because she never once did a good thing for Jon in her life..Even the last scene of the video is her saying she didn’t keep her promise to be a mother/love him. In season 1 her very last time seeing Jon she didn’t even want him to talk to bran while she was in the same room with him lmao I mean I don’t blame her but you definitely wrong about that. Maybe you should rewatch early seasons fr because she never said a kind word to him nor looked at him in a kind way only with attitude. It’s literally why Jon went to the wall because she and most of everybody else never treated him decent she even told him to not come to the feast when Robert was in winterfell because he was a bastard. She didn’t even try to hide her hatred for Jon lol everybody knew she hated him even ned,Robb and Jaime who barley was in winterfell knew. Theon got treated better than Jon did and Theon was a prisoner to the starks Lmao only a select few was good to Jon but cat was never one of them.
I remember how much crap you got in the comments the first season because you were just talking and roasting everything 😂😂😂
Also, remember that everyone who watched as it aired had the luxury of scouring Reddit, etc after each episode and season because there weren’t any true spoilers! Don’t be too hard on yourself lol lots of reactors miss stuff 😉
Matty! Check out the Coldplay musical video! 😂 pleaaaase lol
Hope this isn’t a spoiler but this was alluded to in this video. Several people have different opinions about Rhaegar. What’s your thoughts?
He’s a discount Daemon.
Did you watch the end of the video or you just gave up on it? The reason George let them make the show part.
yeah i watched it but the screen record stopped cos i ran out of storage lol
0:45 oh You gotta be shitting me... she was in the episode of the show... That all Robert baratheons ever talked about all season... thats what cercei ever talked about complained about all season...
This is My theory:
You were just watching the show to get it over with it.. but didnt have any faith of it being as good as people said... You tought it was gonna be good, but overhyped..
Then Ned died.. and You started loving it.. now You are beating your head against the wall for not believing in it from the start.
i won’t lie there is truth to that, in the beginning i wasn’t as invested as i should’ve been, i was being a dummy with my approach, didn’t know what i was doing. i really wish i would’ve taken it more seriously from the start. i do feel pretty shitty and embarrassed about it now, is what it is now n lesson learned going forward. i absolutely love the show now, beginning season 2 i changed my attitude for the better and i absolutely loved the show since!
to be fair, i didn’t hear her say “big brother” to ned, she was whispering and my volume was pretty low because i turned it down from a couple scenes prior. i figured it was john’s mom but obv i missed it was ned’s sister.
@@mattyreacts i hope You see this reply:
The part were you Say You didnt hear her Say "Big brother" .. for You it's a Big deal because who know how many hours it tool to full put everything together.
But for us the viewers it's No BiGGie. Because at the end You added a comment post edit.. for us it was as if it took you just a SEC.
It would be horrible if You keep the vídeo confused.. and then clear it in the next vídeo... That would suck..
This isn't R+L=J.
Robert and lyanna weren't married they were betrothed. Technically rhaegar didn't do anything wrong he just fell in love with a woman who was supposed to marry another
Aww another s7 reactor spoiled. Damn shame
I'm sorry for you that you were spoiled by stupid people on the internet with this r+ l= j video. You should have discovered it by yourself in season 7 ( as it was intented by the the showrunners that Season 6 épisode 10 was only to confirm Jon's Mother) and maybe only after watch this vidéo.
What that is not true. This video was made before season 7 came out somehow does it spoil season 7?
@@johndoe-wd9fh and so what, this video IS not canon it has been made by some random youtuber. I don't understand why so many people try to spoon fed youtube reacters with this video that spoils the big reveal which is meant to be for Season 7 ( reveal of the father), not Season 6. A lot of réacteurs like this one didn't even have a clue. So it's spoilers.
well after i watched 6x10 i looked at other reaction vids n they all said that in their vid, the comments said it too so i figured i was suppose to catch it then, then i was recommended to watch this video to explain how it’s makes sense
Maybe talk less and listen more. But then again this is a reaction channel, so…
yea it’s tricky
