38:54 so that’s not Phyllis. That’s his mom. Phyllis, the woman that tells Russell he is bugging his dad by wanting to spend time with him, is presumably a girlfriend of his dad or step mom. I always liked that Carl didn’t push after asking if Russell called his mom Phyllis because he just kind of gets to be a dad/grandpa surrogate to Russell for the rest of the movie. It’s so sweet and gives him a chance to have that father-like experience that him and Ellie always wanted.
I’m so excited for you to watch more animated movies. Encanto is a really good one too and Luca, to me is underrated, also really good.
Up was nominated for 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, & Best Sound Editing. It won 2 for Best Animated Feature & Best Original Score.
Don't worry, the beginning probably made me cry too. I don't remember because i think i was in middle school when it came out but it definitely made me cry now seeing it over again
Just something really technical here: if you switch your lighting scheme, you'll pop off the background more. What I mean is that in the background, you have the rope-light, which is warm. The key light, which is the light that is used for lighting yourself, is cool. Teale and orange are contrasting colors, so if you light yourself in a warm light against a cool lighted background, you'll pop more off the screen. It is also to note that blue, cool colors are receding, so the blue background will actually add a lot of depth to your image. Think of the sky, it's blue and it recedes which is why the sky looks so large all the time and why sunsets are so dynamic.

The first time I ever watched Up was during my free block in 12th grade. I was a band TA. My band director would let me & the other TAs watch movies in the band hall during our downtime between classes so every day I would bring a different movie for us to watch. Fun memories 😌

Up was followed up with a short-form Disney+ series, Dug Days (2021), which followed Carl & Dug’s life together after the events of the film. There were also 3 short films released: Dug’s Special Mission (2009), which shows Dug’s actions before meeting Carl & Russell, George & AJ (2009), which focuses on the nurses George & AJ’s reaction after seeing Carl’s house fly away, and Carl’s Date (2023), which focuses on Carl preparing for his first date since Ellie’s death & serves as the Dug Days series finale.

Now you have to come to Seattle and tie a balloon to the real Up House. This year the house received over 8000 balloons so far.
Fun fact: Up became the 2nd of only 3 animated films to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards (after 1991’s Beauty and the Beast & before 2010’s Toy Story 3).

An amazing movie that came out in 2009 but my favorite movie that came out that year? The Princess and The Frog because it has my favorite Disney villain of all time Dr. Facilier also since your now starting a watch animated movie merathon I highly recommend you watch that movie too because it's animated 😄🙏🏻😈💜🐸🎥🎶
