I'd guess a vast majority of the WWII American forces were volunteers, not drafted as you seem to believe.

Other recommendations: For WW2, the Tuskegee Airmen, tells the story of the 332nd Fighter Group "Red Tails" probably one of the best if not the best fighter group in WW2. We Were Soldiers, the story of the battle of La Drang in Vietnam.

It was a fantastic journey. As for war movies, my suggestion would be Black Hawk Down, and once you've watched it you should read "Praise For Black Hawk Down From One Who Was There By Gerry Izzo Captain, U.S. Army, Retired."

In the movies, you win the war and everybody lives happily ever after. In reality the Occupying forces had to restore order to Germany, which was basically a giant pile of rubble, no food, no electricity, no water, no hospitals, no police, nothing resembling civilization. Oh, and hundreds of thousands of surrendered German soldiers, who could be suspected of starting underground resistance movements. What are you supposed to do with all that? Just walk away and hope it fixes itself?

Multiple movies refer to the event, and Nixon stated is as a fact in Episode 9. Not a put-down, just urging you to prep for historical references a bit more.

Winters and Nixon weren't drafted, all Airborne units were volunteers the drafted guys were in normal units or mechanics and non combat duty people

Hitler didn't even kill himself, the Russians let him get away and just showed us pictures of a burned corpse in his bunker, they never let other countries examine the body. And if less import German leaders were able to escape to South America I'm sure Hitler would've had a way to do it too.

Did Danearys do wrong killing that many innocent people who don't have control over King's Landing? Yes. Was she pushed to it by what Cersei and others did? Yes. I just think to make it more plausible they easily needed more seasons and dialogue to have Dany's turn to jealousy/fear and her turning into the mad queen more plausible and make more sense by seeing and hearing more go on over time. Everything was just rushed in this season. If they had even another season or 2 of 10 episodes people could have been understanding of Dany being turned and bad, but they pushed rushed that whole plot line.

The lottery to send one man home was set up to send Shifty home. The helmet they used to pull a name from was supposed to have a bunch of names to choose from but there was only one piece of paper in it. It had Shifty's name on it.

Heh heh heh. That sleeve gets SO many people, don't feel too bad about it. All that means is that the dead body it's attached to used to be a soldier in the 1st SS, the Adolf Hitler unit. If you want to know what happened to Hitler himself, there's a movie called Downfall starring the late, great Bruno Ganz as Adolf Hitler, which you may very likely have seen before in the form of the angry screaming Hitler meme. There's also a historian, Mark Felton, who made a career on youtube history videos, mostly focusing on WW2, that stemmed from the work he did studying Hitler's final days. He's on the of best, you can learn more from one of his five minute videos than you could watching a whole History Channel special. Speirs was easily my favorite. I like to think that because of how few inmates there really were at Spandau, a big part of the reason he became governor there was just to stand outside of Rudolf Hess's cell and poke him with a stick every once in a while to keep him from getting lonely and bored. Anyway, I had a blast watching y'all watch this. I figure you'll be on to The Pacific next. But I hope at some point y'all watch Generation Kill. It's a great show AND it's hilarious.

The Hobbits of the shire have won multiple wars against orcs, goblins, wargs, wolves and men who have attempted to invade thier home. There was a winter that went on for over a year and the resulting hunger drove goblins and wolves into the Shire and Bullroarer Took, ancestor of three of the main characters, lead the Hobbits to victory. Story is he hit a goblin so hard that it's head flew off and rolled into a hole, thus inventing the sport of golf.
