With dipole antennas the weakest spot is off the tip of the antenna. So it’s best to have them pointing upright if you’re going for distance, otherwise the range will be a lot less.
@@EricMyles only if you angle the controller up. The length of the antennas pointed to the receiver provide the strongest signal. You get about 40% if you point the tip at the receiver(drone). Also, the range depends on area and other interference. I have had 3400m from mine. But in an area with other signals, I get about 750m. the mavic mini seems to get better range in airplane mode, too. I can't work out why.

With airplane mode off, your phone is constantly searching for Wi-Fi connection -- that means it's emitting interference, as the Mavic Mini operates on a boosted Wi-Fi signal emitted from the controller itself. With your phone emitting Wi-Fi right next to your controller, which is also emitting Wi-Fi, you interfere with the controller's signal and therefore reduce range. It's the same reason why Mavic Minis will get better range in the middle of nowhere than they will in a city/suburb. 3400 meters is pretty dang good! My brother's Phantom 3 Standard operates on Wi-Fi and we've maxed it out at about 1600-1800M

I flown just yesterday in Greece with the European version, did a range rest over seas and made 4.500m on my first try! This thing rocks! Also i never had transmission issues during the flight neither got any warnings about the signal!
I think your weak signal problem was with more than just the drone. Lol. I hope you are feeling better. Maybe next time try an open field, point your antenna flat sides towards the drone, don't have obstructions between you and the drone, like trees or buildings. You had your controller through the railing of your deck plus there were Christmas lights all around you. These things cause interference. I'm looking forward to your follow up. Up until the last update I was getting better range on channel 165 (FCC version) but after the last firmware update my range seems to have improved (urban range) while just choosing "auto". A couple weeks ago ordered some of those new Yagi style antenna signal range boosters. Supposedly they are better than the parabolic dish style ones. Can't wait to test them.

You flew out at about 50 to 70 m high you kept raising your height as you where going out where you took from the altitude limit is lower than where ever you flew out to so you where at about 150 m when you tried to come home it cant because where your at the altitude limit is lower than where your at u have to drop the height when u drop it back to your limit it will come back same thing happen to me

How do I know I’m buying the right model in my store in bestbuy at Canada. Because I heard there’s two models, and one is fcc and the other au, and the au model doing less range then fcc. If I go to my local Best Buy at Canada will I be getting the same model as yours (the fcc model I’m guessing)?

You aren’t pointing the antennas correctly. Dont point the tips at the drone, face the flat side towards the drone.

CE version is rated 500m on 5.8GHz and 2000m in 2.4GHz. And indeed, properly align the antennas and point hem toward the drone. That helps too.

You don't have the antennas at 90 degrees. That's why you lost connection at 700 meters.
Need to lift your antennas. Need the flat side toward the drone always.
Bad Antenna positioning and direction is a big factor in this failed attempt .

I made an antenna range extender by cutting open an aluminum soda pop can, hot glue gun and velcro to hold it to the controller. It works great.

Buy it online on the dji usa website I live in Canada and I did that
4000m only applies to 5.8Ghz and while running in FCC mode (USA) if any of that does or does not apply.
5.8 is for short range and 2.4 is for long range, don’t know where you got your information
