Got my mini on Sunday and charged up the batteries and the controller on Sunday night. Monday night I was pairing in my office and the blades started spinning. Grabbed the drone and cut my hands on the props. Both hands. Learned lesson 1. Will try and get out tomorrow for first flight. Thanks for the beginner's video. 73 years old here.

Thanks for the info. I just bought a mini from my brother who had it for less than 2 months. It was a good deal. 3batt. and a charging bank for $400. Then I found out my Iphone would not support it. So now I had to purchase a new phone (iphone 8plus) Wow I wonder if I came out ahead. So be it. Life is too short to worry about it.

Very informative. Got a question. If I were to buy the adaptor to use my IPad with the controller, will the supplied cord that goes from controller to phone still be long enough to connect to my IPad?
Hmmm, I haven’t tried that myself, but my guess is no. A longer cable is only like $5 though, so I don’t think it should be that big of an issue! Sorry about that tho!
No, you will need a longer cable to connect your iPad. Some tablet holders come with a longer cable included in the price.

One thing that nobody ever seems to tell you in these videos: you can use the controller without your phone connected
Tried this myself indoors but without the app running to keep initial height at 1.2m it went straight into the ceiling so be careful.
When I first started flying (not long ago) I had a little trouble remembering which action the 2 controller sticks did in mode 2 Now I use this saying. The one on the left is UP, DOWN AND SPIN AROUND. The right is the 4 DIRECTIONS. Up, back and side to side. But the up UP DOWN AND SPIN AROUND helps me to keep it right in my head.

Mode 3 is the easiest, I don't know how people fly in Mode 2 and I haven't even gotten my Mavic Mini yet! I'm getting mine in a few days I'm so excited!

@@arpit546 Yes, but in restricted areas only. You can easily get it by apply through online. All you gotta do is visit dji website and upload your SN of the drone and flying details such as diameter, expecting flying hight etc in that certain area.
Ohh did I mess up today. I got my new Mavic Mini a month ago. Been logging some flights and learning what I can do. Tonight as the sun was setting I was flying over my lake. I was making really low passes. The video looked awesome. At about 2 feet off the surface I accidentally pulled back on the controller thinking I would climb.. My airplane days.. It went into landing mode. My poor drone is gone in the drink. Our boat is not I'm it's slip yet. I felt sick.. I ordered a new drone tonight. Shhhh, don't tell my wife.
Re: pointing the camera upward. It's not just for looking up at the sky. For commercial pilots, it can be used for inspections where you fly underneath something. For landscape photographers, it can get you some great shots looking upward or gradually panning upward with the gimbal control, looking at a mountain, cliff, or other large formation. Try it out and you'll find it can really add to your scenic photography and videography.

I bought one mavic mini and I don’t know why my drone does not have audio or they in fact don’t have audio?
DJI Mavic Mini Drone has no built-in mic, so you can't record audio;
unless you record video from your phone instead.

Observation-worry: I will want to upgrade my iPhone 8+ to the iPhone 12 when it comes out. But the new iPhones are reported to be "portless". How the heck is that (not) going to work? Any rumors/info from DJI?
Wow that’s something I had never thought of before...I guess the day the iPhone goes portless is the day I never upgrade iPhones ever again! The latency and interference is just absolutely too high to go back to a WiFi-based connection for me

I would search for Mavic Mini controllers and pretty much any one that you buy you can link to your drone and use. Just make sure that if you have the CE version of the drone that you buy the CE version of the controller, or FCC controller with an FCC controller.

The same port that is on the left hand side of the controller for the phone cord is the same one that once unplugged, you can plug it’s charging cable into!

wish you could switch the ascend and decend, it's awkward. If you fly a plane, you pull back to ascend, same with joystick on COD games, pushing forward to ascend is just wrong.
You can customize the controls to however you please!

Thank you for the great videos. New Mavic Mini owner and absolutely love it! Just wanted to comment that though a thick case doesn't quite fit as hoped, I'm able to use the remote without removing it on my iPhone 8 Plus. It can fit snugly enough to be usable, which I far prefer to removing my case every time.
Hmm, most all of my phones have fit - just the cable is the issue. The cable typically doesn’t fit into the charging slot since the cases I typically have are a bit thick, so just keep that in mind if you ever encounter a complete dropout of signal- make sure to check that cable connection :)

If you are used to flying a DJI Phantom 4 and are looking at this mini as a backup drone you will be sorely disappointed. Compared to the Phantom 4 the mini controller sticks are very stiff. It’s very difficult to get a smooth turn out of them. You have to pull really hard on the sticks and when you do the drone over responds. It takes quite a while to get any finesse out of it. Second the range is crap. About 1/10th of what you get from a Phantom 4. Fly more than a hundred feet and the signal breaks up. And if there are ANY obstacles, like trees, forget it. The image that you see on your phone is very washed out. Even on a top end iPhone. It’s hard to make out what you are seeing and the text on the HUD is virtually unreadable. If you are used to leaving your drone on the ground while waiting for a scene you can forget about that. When sitting on the ground the air vents on the bottom are blocked and the processor will overheat forcing you to power it down. And get used to recalibrating the compass all the time. It’s cute. It’s compact. And if you want to shoot selfies or stationary objects nearby it’s perfectly fine. But don’t try going after moving objects. You won’t have the range or smoothness of control to make it work.

For beginner, then try DJI Mavic Mini which is cheaper price now.
Specs: 2.7K resolution, distance 2.7 mile (4.0km), Height 400 feet.
If you like higher resolution video (in 4K) and fly longer distance (10km),
then get the latest model DJI Mavic Mini 2.
Price difference is only about 30%-40%.

Thanks so much for the video! Helped so much 👍 one question. Does anyone have excessive stiffness in one of the four Mavic mini arms? My rear right arm is considerably harder to unfold than the others...
You’re welcome Cory, glad it helped you out! I don’t have excessive stiffness in any of the arms specifically, but the rear two arms do take more effort to unfold than the front do. I wouldn’t be worried about it being stiff, I would personally be more worried if the leg suddenly became super loose or very easy to fold that it could inflight. Hope this helps!
