My goal is blinking red after those things calculation process is about green to blinking red all I need to do to keep them doing red it acts like it's flying backwards instead of auto class it acts like it wants to stay on the ground when wide open so the guys to it says it's raises one side upstairs to be done
Flew far away, lost radio signal, had almost no idea where it was, wasn't familiar with the map app, got panicky. As a last resort, I turned the controller off, then back on. It worked! Got signal back, and she was automatically on the way home. Apparently, that's what you're supposed to do. I was guessing.
I bought a mini2 used for $150, biggest mistake I have made. It flys fine WHEN IT LETS ME TAKEOFF, but it's always complaining about geo fence bs. And it's camera is not very good. Overall I now hate DJI.
I would like to add another drone mistake. Not watching where you're walking while flying the drone. I was walking down a slight hill. I slipped and fell on my back. I'm 68 years old. I shouldn't be doing that. I dropped my glasses, my hat, and the drone controller in the mud. The drone landed right beside me and shut off. Nothing was broken and I am O.K. except for a lot of mud.
Hi Carson! Great tips there! A few more I might suggest for beginning drone pilots is to always calibrate the compass before flying at a new location (standing away from metal objects). Also, to calibrate the "IMU" or "Inertial Measurement Unit" about once a month (compass tells the drone what direction it's flying--IMU relates to acceleration and tilt angle for stable flight with 6-axis gyro). The IMU "green=good" indicator in the app is like a "check engine light"--it won't turn "red" until state of emergency! By then, a person might crash their drone. For drones that rely on WIFI frequency more than radio, you can buy a special high-speed cable (if using an Ipad Mini or Iphone--you can just use the Apple highspeed charging cable). This improves transmission of the video feed for lower latency and reduces risk of disconnecting mid-flight from the app (always turn smart phones on "Airplane Mode" before flying so incoming calls don't cause drone to disconnect from flight app! Since your smart device is plugged in to RC--leaving it on cellular or Wifi is unnecessary and causes frequency interference). Yes, you don't need cellular data to use the DJI Fly App--but you have to have internet connection to initially log into the DJI Go App before leaving the house. Position the controller antennas flat side towards the drone at 45 degree up angle for best broadcast (many "newbies" point antenna tips straight at drone, down at ground, or criss-crossed . . . all of which are incorrect!). Yes, the drone will execute a "lost link procedure" if it loses connection with the remote controller (it still has connection with satellites though to fly in auto-pilot). I leave it on "Return to Home" for normal use. However, if a person flies under structures or takes off from a boat--set the "lost link" procedure to "hover" in place--so the drone can re-connect with RC and land safely (Otherwise, your drone will try to ascend up to RTH altitude and fly straight up into tree branches, bridge, or overhead obstructions! And, if the boat has moved--it will land in water because that's the "home point" it last remembers. If your flying altitude is higher than RTH altitude--the drone will not descend until landing (So, if you are flying above a skyscraper and the drone loses connection--it won't fly down to RTH height and hit any objects below it). Remember that RTH is still blind to obstacles! Ken Heron was orbiting around a skyscraper and the concrete building blocked his signal--the drone "came home" in straight line and smashed right into the building (altitude was not set high enough to clear it). Also, many people do not realize drones will execute an emergency "auto-landing" at 10% battery. So, make sure to land with 20-30% battery left just to be safe. Hope this helps--you covered a lot of excellent points as well. Use a micro SD card with a U3 rating for sure. I turn my drone on first so it has a minute to connect to satellites in GPS mode before I take off. Otherwise, you will be flying in full manual or "Attitude Mode" with no GPS to help you. Please feel free to use some of these suggestions if you make a "Part 2" video sequel
@@SagefulSolutions Also, I always turn the drone "off" before I turn the remote controller off! If you turn the RC off while the drone's rotors are "armed" or "idling"--the drone might think it has lost connection and take off by itself to "return to home!" It should simply fly up to RTH altitude and then land again at home point. But, it sure is scary when your drone takes off like that.
Good adds to a great video, thank you. A lot of old school RC pilots were trained opposite in the 72mhz days... turned the plane on first to confirm clear frequency. But with today's systems...Always control first on and last off. (You wouldn't slap a horse on the A__ before setting the bit and reins, would you??)
When I was a Newbie I did this twice with my Mini and I got an error message "Gimbal motor jammed" which I was eventually able to clear but for a short while it was scary.
I did that all day today (just bought a mini 2), I had no idea it needed to come off, couldn't figure out why my vids were so shitty, I can't believe they don't even give you a full instruction booklet 🤦♂️
@@craigwflys I cashed it into a tree within 30 min, still runs fine, but I'll be swapping it back out for a new one tomorrow just to make sure there are no unseen issues.
I was once flying in some wooded mountains where my landing spot was not clear at all, and the only reason why I still have that drone today was because of the minimap on the bottom left of the screen
I just got my DJI air 2s 3 days ago first time flyer but I've been flying drones on Xbox and the controls are very similar anyway one thing you forgot to mention which I've done twice which is stupid is don't power up the drone without first removing the gimbal protector.... but your videos very informative thank you.. I did subscribe.
ignored wind warning last week. the battery I had was low, and I was above a beach. it was forcing me to land above water and I was at around 5%. there was a pier so I got up from where I was and ran to the end of the pier. the wind was too strong and it just managed to land at the end of the pier. lesson learnt, don't underestimate the wind.
nice vid chap .biggest mistake i made was getting a done and thinking i knew what i was doing .it did not end well .now im learning to fly and enjoying it
Another rookie mistake I sometimes see: taking off and landing on dirt. Dirt flying everywhere: into the camera, gimbal, and motors. I bought a kit that included a folding big orange H landing pad, and use it all the time.
Another return to home tip: if you are on a boat, disable rth all together. I live on the coast and have seen many, MANY people lose their drone when it returned to home.....but the boat moved.
I owned the phantom 3 standard. I watched your videos from there. Now I decided to get the air 2 combo and I like it. Way better. I'm to scared to fly miles away though. I'm learning to fly it to get awesome footage. It's going to make it easy to get better
Tip: don't use the drones shadow as a guide when you're trying to land it. Especially if you're trying to land on something like a picnic table because chances are you'll miss because the drones shadow isn't always directly underneath it. 😉
Good video but #3 VLOS It's about seeing the area around the drone, not what the camera sees. Your camera won't see a helicopter rapidly coming in from behind or to the side of your drone. VLOS is about being aware of your surroundings.
Thanks for the good video. Someone just offered me a Pheonix drone for $125 with several extra batteries and loads of extra propellers, so I am looking forward to playing with it. I've only ever had tiny drones that could be sent halfway across a room by a fart. This is going to be fun!
These are by far the most irrational and illogical scenarios. Power up the remote first in case your drone does something odd and you can gain control over it? Bro really? Your drone isn't autonomous and making its own decisions until your turn on your RC. If a signal is such that it can make your drone behave in an unexpected way, then it doesn't matter if your RC is on or not.
I just picked up a mavic air 2 and smart controller for our page!! Thanks for the pointers and tips. How do u get the drone license to fly around the towers and other items
Thanks for the video. Picked up a never-used HS175D Holy Stone at a flea market and there's so much to learn before even considering turning on any buttons.
I just purchased my first drone through Amazon and will be here today. Is there a specific sd card? It's a E99 fpv w/4k dual upgraded version cameras? Also is there particular places that are off limits to flying other than peoples private property?
Hey I’ve got a question or maybe not a question but a comment 1:03 so I’m not saying your wrong but the how to guides my drone came with tell me to turn my drone on “firstly” before I turn on my remote I have the RUKO F11 GIM. I can definitely see why turning on the remote 1st is a good idea from what you gave as examples of what may happen!
Thank you for a great video! Lots of familiar observations but lots of good tips too! I think that maintaining visual contact with the drone is also important because with your own eyes you can see the drone's surroundings better. For example, electrical wires or mast ridge may not be visible on the screen.
I just got a DJI mini pro 3 on September 16 off of Amazon. My last software update I thought mention something about 0king them activating a remote ID on it. How can we tell if ours has the remote ID activated? By the way, I just got my part 107 certificate/license.
Thank you for #9! I don’t even fly drones or shoot video, but I do edit video. The amount of times I’ve gotten footage that does not hold one shot long enough is insane.
Regarding the RTH altitude. Is the height based off take off level or the level the drone is actually flying. Say you start low and fly up a mountain.... obviously the altitude up the mountain is higher and trees higher still. Hope that makes sense.
#13 - getting a drone and then thinking i could head right off to my local state parks and film myself! But I’m sure I’ll have other uses for it hiking 🧐😮🤙🏼
Hi thank you for your very informative and useful video I live in the uk and this year I am saving up so I can buy a dji Mavic pro 2 and I have only flown cheap rc helicopters and cheaper 720p camera drones I found this video very useful for myself as a novice any if you have any useful tips or any other useful information that would be great I am also going to mostly be using it in the remote countryside and sites of historical interest Thank You
coming from flying helicopters and how touchy they are i use the tips of my thumbs and BARELY touch them. Gentleness goes a long way for a smooth flight. just started using drones I feel spoiled how smooth they are. #1 rookie mistake with my mavic air 2 is forgetting to take off the gimbal protector before starting the drone. grrr
Nice video, very informative. I just took drone out for a test drive 🚗. I haven't used it that much because I don't control very well. I appreciate you going into various settings. Thanks 😊! 👍🏿👌🏿🔥💯
When it comes to micro SD cards, the V rating is also very important. For instance a U3 V60 is better than a U3 V30. And of course a V90 is better than a V60
I don’t use 4K as I match my drone footage with my GoPro and as a smaller channel I get the avc code unlike the vp9. You can have 4K but if RUclips crushes your bandwidth 4K is useless. More important is that you get the vp9 code
Thanks for the tips. My Bonus #4 tip would be to use at least 64GB SD card for Mavic Air 2. Especially if you're recording in 4K/60fps where bitrate goes to 120Mbps. If you're utilizing 2 or even 3 batteries, 32GB will often not be enough for all the scenes you want to record, as the card can hold only about 33 minutes of 4K/60 videos. Afterall, they are all cheap nowadays, and you can even get 128GB for something like $20 (UHS-I [3], A2 V30 class), which is peanuts compared to price of the drone.
Good video. I be been flying a Mavic clone for a while now. I have probably 10 or 12 FPV quads now, and never paid more than $100 for any of these. I've only broken two props, ever. One of mine got snagged in the carpet when picking it up. Yeah, it was a micro, stunt guad. Another, a wall. LOL I've had one fly away. It was one of those El cheapo $20 Dollar Store quads. A camera, but no FPV. This was an informative video. Good job.
Hi Carson I own a mavic air 2 had it for a few months and made one of your mistakes when in a large park area doing a follow me mode and when finished and instructed the drone to return to home and it started flying back to where it took off from ( as that’s what it supposed to do ) Question is there a setting were drone can follow the controller and the home point is changed to be maybe call it, “controller home point”. Love the videos you put out thanks Steve L
I’m not sure if the MA2 uses the DJI Fly app, but it is possible to update your home point whilst flying. Just go into Settings -> Safety -> Update home point. You can then choose either your current position, or pick a point on the map. If it’s a different app for the MA2, I’m sure there will be an equivalent option. Google will help in this case. Hope this helps.
@@wumfi hi Pete yes you are right you can update the home point DJI fly app. Just thinking it might be a good feature to have that the home point is where the controller is. ( or near to the controller ) Imagine riding down a hill and the drone is in follow mode, then for some reason the drone looses connection and returns to last home point which could be a couple of hundred metres. What I’m thinking is that the controller can / could be switched to being home point. If it’s not there now, maybe an update from DJI. What’s your thoughts on that as an update. ?
@@stevelawrence8708 Hi. Yes, very good idea. Although implementing such a feature is akin to a follow me mode. So one could initiate the RTH, and then walk whilst the drone was returning. It’s unlikely DJI would add that, as it wants you to buy the Air 2/2S instead!
My fatal mistake was that I insisted on flying in a no-fly zone military area despite the warning. I disabled the location setting and flew about 4 meters above the sea. That time, I lost control of the drone no matter what I did, somewhat somebody had taken over the control of the drone until it crashed into the land. What'|s the reason for this?
@@tchendjeneves6390 I have made great progress flying it, doing great. I'm still learning how to set the camera settings. I get confused with settings.
At 4:21 both white lines up and down is the pitch angle (nose up or down with wings level). Individually, each side up and down (opposite) is the bank angle (roll rate). All the best.
Can I fly above the tower if I'm not certified. I'm asking will the software in the drone will prevent me from flying above a tower or is that I shouldn't fly above a tower unless I'm certified?
I have a DJI Phantom 3 Standard that i am just learning to fly more advanced. Your video on flying to waypoints, follow-me, etc. was fantastic. This video in the 13 mistakes was excellent also. I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Do all or most drones save the videos on an SD card? I look at many drone adverts typically on AliExpress but most do not mention where the videos are saved and do not mention SD cards.
Yo we're them thumb stick come from with the skulls and crossbones those are stellar brother and pre shade the cool content you have helped a old FPV pilot tremendously would be flying without your videos..
Good job. DJI. They used to be the best. Maybe still are. BUT, now all the pre-checks, permissions, checking location, and whether or not you're in a no-fly area. I've heard that sometimes a DJI WILL NOT allow you to take off without doing an update.
I thought when battery is dying, the drone will slow down or at worst, cut off power and drop onto the snow… But NO! It suddenly lost connection and just took off in random directions and full speed, and ran into the tree. First time flying the HS700e and crashed it. One side of legs broke off, battery fell out due to impact, and bent some props… 😅 Luckily only cost me $63 on Amazon with coupon codes, and I bought 3 drones.
I'm having problems with my 165 Max drone it's not allowing me to connect with it's Wi-Fi or the Wi-Fi of my phones hotspot!! It's like I have no control over it at all! !! Is there a sequence I have to follow for it to connect everything or pattern or something?? I really need to know what's wrong with my drawing because I cannot follow my passion without knowing how to do it!!! HP!! Thank you!!
@@mysticaldragon2740 if you update rth while Dron flying than it will set it up to current drone position. It can be used that way to film with rotation and gimbal unlocked on mini 2 while drone rth.
Hi dude I have a question:how I record audio when drone flying. Because as far as I know drones dosnt have a microphone for recording audio. Is there a way to record audio when drone flying? 🤔
New flyer question - My drone has 500m range. What happens when it goes approx that distance? Will I lose control? Will the settings force it to turn back? Is it safe when in GPS mode, but not safe in Attitude mode? Any help would be appreciated!
@@carsonmtech Hello Carson, Thank you for the reply. Yeah I should have been more specific with the info. It is a low cost drone I received as a gift. Snaptain SP510. It actually has most of the important features. I just didn't understand how they all function together and was I was insecure about it. I did a trial flight and sent the drone out to the limit and the video image froze and I started to panic. About 30 seconds later the drone came flying back over the trees and I regained control. Evidently the auto return kicked in and sent it back. I'm happy to say that it flies and controls very well, but I will probably upgrade in the near future to a higher quality machine with longer range, better camera, etc. Having fun with this for now! Thanks, Joe from Massachusetts
Anyone else find that seeing the drone is one thing but working out which way its pointing and actually getting it back home is much easier said than done. 100m away or so and its very difficult, especially with something small like a Mavic Mini. If you lost the gps and video feed, I suspect a lot of people would struggle to bring them home.

You really know your stuff Carson, keep up the excellent videos and I'm almost 99.9999% sure your gonna help a dummy like me 👍
I could be wrong but the tip about flying 400 feet agl. I think the cloud ceiling would also affect how high you’d be able to go. Something like that
500 ft below the cloud base
Visual line of sight applies to height as well, so if in cloud it isn't in visual line of sight.......
If you reset the RTH home point, won't that set it to where the drone is currently at instead of where you are?
Gppd wprk as usual Carson! Thank from Australia brother! 5yrs been my go to guy for mini series tips! Hope your well.
Great video been flying drones about 10 years made my share of mistakes LOL, again some great imformation.
Nice video, very informative. I just took drone out for a test drive 🚗. I haven't used it that much because I don't control very well. I appreciate you going into various settings. Thanks 😊! 👍🏿👌🏿🔥💯
Thanks for the guidance. Helpful for us Newbs.
When it comes to micro SD cards, the V rating is also very important. For instance a U3 V60 is better than a U3 V30. And of course a V90 is better than a V60
So if I'm near the upper side of a gorge or valley when I take off and fly over said precipice, I'm not legal if I don't have 107?
Good job! ❤
Thank you Create video Always looking forward to the next one.
LOL
I've had one fly away. It was one of those El cheapo $20 Dollar Store quads. A camera, but no FPV.
This was an informative video. Good job.
Do u have an each one e58 or ex5
Hi Carson I own a mavic air 2 had it for a few months and made one of your mistakes when in a large park area doing a follow me mode and when finished and instructed the drone to return to home and it started flying back to where it took off from ( as that’s what it supposed to do )
Question is there a setting were drone can follow the controller and the home point is changed to be maybe call it, “controller home point”.
Love the videos you put out thanks
Steve L
I’m not sure if the MA2 uses the DJI Fly app, but it is possible to update your home point whilst flying. Just go into Settings -> Safety -> Update home point. You can then choose either your current position, or pick a point on the map. If it’s a different app for the MA2, I’m sure there will be an equivalent option. Google will help in this case. Hope this helps.
@@wumfi hi Pete yes you are right you can update the home point DJI fly app.
Just thinking it might be a good feature to have that the home point is where the controller is. ( or near to the controller )
Imagine riding down a hill and the drone is in follow mode, then for some reason the drone looses connection and returns to last home point which could be a couple of hundred metres.
Great tips! What prop blades are you using? They look like 1 piece and the Air 2S I just purchased has the collapsible 2 piece.
Well done Carson, next week I hope to be purchasing my first Drone.
Hi.. did you buy it?
@@tchendjeneves6390 Yes I did. :)
How is it?
You must a pro by now...
Great video Carson thanks! An auto RTH update feature would be nice. I'm getting the Mini-2 this summer thanks for the video very informative.
This was a good video! I didn’t know about the compass being so handy! Thanks
I feel like that horse carriage was breaking the speed limit.
Hey can i ask what app you are using? Does it work for many drones also?
Can I fly above the tower if I'm not certified. I'm asking will the software in the drone will prevent me from flying above a tower or is that I shouldn't fly above a tower unless I'm certified?
Thanks - that was very helpful!!
Where did u get that case I love it 😅 great vid
I want to get started but now I know the 13 things not to do. I figure that saves me the cost of a replacement drone.
New to this, Thank You for the video!!!!!!!
Very good video. Thank you!
Thanks for the great information always check everything now before take off
I am finding your videos very useful, thanks.
Thanks for your video, very insightful.
Great video...! Thank You...!
Weather conditions for drone?
How long charge?
Losing drone ?
I'm having problems with my 165 Max drone it's not allowing me to connect with it's Wi-Fi or the Wi-Fi of my phones hotspot!! It's like I have no control over it at all! !! Is there a sequence I have to follow for it to connect everything or pattern or something?? I really need to know what's wrong with my drawing because I cannot follow my passion without knowing how to do it!!! HP!!
Thank you!!
Really good vid. Thanks!
Hi Carson, do you know if with the Mavic 2 zoom during an automatic RTH the sensor works? or it would just crash if you set the height too low
Thanks for the tips. I really learn a lot. 😎
Awesome video I really enjoyed it!!
If I get this for Christmas, someone tell me if I should set my gimbal speed to maximum when being in an urban area
6:30
RTH point is taken from drones location not on phones location at (least on my drone)
So drone goes where that drone was when you updated it
Its the drones home location where you powered it up or set it to, NOT the drones location or the controller or phones location.
Depends on the brand of drone, environment, and whether RTH features are enabled. Hard to say without knowing more information!
Thanks,
Joe from Massachusetts
All of this is very useful. Just bought the Mavic Air 2. How the hell do I get it to read feet and not meters. Can't find that anywhere. Lol
It's under settings. Go under control and change your unit settings from metric to imperial.
So stupid I didn't see it. Thanks.
Awesome information. Great job!
Can you set the video length? Like 10sec?
Another great video Carson! Love when your videos come on my recommended page and not just my sub feed!
Yes, it’s always great knowing my videos are getting out there beyond just subscribers :)
@@carsonmtech oh I've been subbed for about a year I think, I just rarely look at my sub feed I always go on my recommendeds
What app are you using .the camera is so good plss tell me immediately 😊
You just got a subscriber. Great content for beginners
Dude you are awesome. Thank you
Thanks nice video bro
Thank you I got a lot out of it
