Gene this was a perfectly timed video. I'm going out to the lake Saturday and was rigging up a drop shot setup. I can't wait to get back to Bienville and fish.
Gene. I actually put this to the test on a pond near my house that has pretty much the same conditions you talk about on this video. I caught my personal best! I used a craw instead of the worm just because I have had a lot of good results with craw as jig trailer on this pond but was tired of having my jig getting caught on the grass. Thanx again!
Dude, I have been watching your vids since you were under 100k subs. You are the person that has helped me become a better angler with all your how to videos. I can remember watching the "How To Find Fish" video for the first time when I was getting started in bass fishing. I am glad to see another awesome video. You have definitely changed my perspective about bass fishing. Happy Fishing and thank you!!!
Excellent reasoning and logic along with outstanding demonstration of same. We all need to think through problems like this. Thank you for leading us into thinking more about what we are doing. Missed your videos..
Gene this was an awesome video. They hit it when you stop because your doing exactly what a salamander does. Swims a little then stops. Pure awesomeness this is going to help my tournament game a lot in grass areas. I love, repeat I love that you posted everything you used, #1 drop shot hook...would have never guessed to use that size. Very cool going to try this technique. Once again thanks for the knowledge, another homerun video. Fish for life brother.
Man you read my mind on drop shot fishing. been wanting to fish it and learn it more and then bam you make just the video I needed. thanks brother. I'm about 20 miles south of you and would love to meet up and fish
Hi Gene. I'm glad you mentioned the fishing shirt of the month in this video. I've got all your shirts so far and like them very much. If I could request one thing about them though, I was wondering if you could send out more light colored shirts. Whites, light blues ya know some shirts that won't absorb the suns rays as much. Thanks man. Fish on!
Awesome Vid... Thank you, Gene... I have not been very lucky at all this fall/winter even though it's not really that cold here and the water not really that cold.. I will need to try this technique.. Need to find some grass lines and throw a line in.... Thank you.
After watching your video i went out and got a 13fishing creed gt.been on a dropshot kick for a couple months and i wish i seen this sooner!AWESOME TIPS!!!! TIGHT LINES
I have been doing this same thing for awhile, but the difference is I pull the line through the eye of a small circle hook twice before tying on the weight(making the hook stationary but easy to adjust) and I change the depth to adapt to the cover I'm fishing to keep the bait on top of it. I then nose hook (insert finesse bait here) and catch fish.
Hey Bro, picking up my first spinning reel. Like the great tutorials. I'll try the DS in lake Okhissa- pressured lake north of McComb in a village called Named Bude. Grass is taking over that lake so it's hard to fish anything in the grass beyond a punch rig.
That’s pretty cool.... was fishin a lake by the house with shallow milfoil kinda grass. Awesome area but was hard to fish it for all the grass. Excellent! Thanks
Gene, you mentioned the reel you are using was a 3000 series. I haven't seen a video that describes the differences in spinning reels or what makes one better than the other. Consider making a review video about what makes one better than the next one and when to use a particular series. Thanks brother, great drop shot video and a really nice fish. I was fishing Guntersville drop shotting in 30 ft of water with a wacky rigged senko and pulled in a 25 inch Drum... oh well, was still fun catching him.
missed ya bub..glad ur back at it..ur videos r one of a kind..plz keep up the great work..uv helped my fishing by leaps and bounds .. ty u sir!!! fish on!!
hey Gene could you start doing some spotted bass videos? alot of us guys especially in North ga have a lot of spotted bass lakes. allatoona, Lanier, carters, etc. It would be nice to see some different techniques to catch spots.
Gene, based on your recommendation, today I ordered a One3 Creed GT Spinning Reel. I have a specific idea that I want to give it a go with making me choose the larger 4000 series. Brad
You can land a big fish on 8 Lb test, I hooked and landed a 19 Lb Carp with a 1/64 ounce Crappie jig. It's all about tying a good knot and setting the drag correctly. I use 8 Lb test when I use a Dropshot Rig and do it with confidence.
Want to say first and foremost thanks for all your videos they are tremendous...my question I have is how come you combine braid and fluorocarbon together instead of just spooling one or the other by itself thanks and have a great day
I found out how to drop shot and fish it in grass last summer on my home lake. the bite got really tough late last summer on lake chickamuaga and a drop shot let me and my dad catch a boat full each day up in shallow grass. it's a fun way to catch bass with light line.
id like to know where that lake is. and would like to make a day trip of it. you are right that those fish are healthy. been watching your videos and great job. im in Dallas Ga but im always up to travel to new areas to fish/hunt. thanks
Do you ever make it out to the northwest? I have been looking for some tips and techniques for this North West coast fishery. you can find some videos but not many. I have been learning bass fishing from guys down south via RUclips. we got the same gear but I wonder are the techniques being used the same with the water temps?
Hey Flukemaster. Quick question, in your opinion would the drop shot be just as effective if you used a small offset worm hook? Or would it be best to stick with using the tiny hooks?
Can’t beat a plasma tail! I think they are so awesome! The colors are great. The sizes are good. And most importantly of all for me. They are pretty cheap for how long they last.
What advice would you give in this same environment and situation but shore fishing instead of boat? Do any variations from where to pitch it or the retrieve method come to mind?
I have grass at the shore and have to cast over it to hit the grass line. A more specific question is when you mention casting onto the grass then pulling the lure off to drop into the water, that is not possible from my shore since i am casting over the grass to strike zone. I am trying to access the far end grassline with subtle presentation like what you get from dropping off the grass casting from a boat. My feather cast still needs work and i need to get on top of them without spooking. For now I'm casting past the grass line and reeling back to it, trying to keep my bait up since the bass are looking up but thats hard. If you have an suggestions for casting to bass over grass to the line from shore without spooking them that would help. Thanks! Great videos.
Mike M if it’s possible to find a part of the lake that would allow you to cast toward the grass line from Like a point or something. Also you can try a different presentation like a fluke or something that will come over the top of the grass. You could also try a light weighted drop shot so it won’t sink into the grass as far
Finally fishing!!!! One of the notifications I've been waiting for!!!!!! I'm really not a fan of the drop shot. I enjoy a weightless senko more. I'll have to try it again this year.
Medium light action huh? Do you pick that over a medium because of the sensitivity for the bite or the line? I tried the braid to leader once and for the life of me, I just couldn't tie the 2 together well enough to pass through the rod eyes. Nice video as always man.
hey fluke, looking for some rod recommendations in the $120-150 price range for drop shotting and throwing around lighter tackle, what do you think i should look at?
Some lakes by me have some really goopy stuff at the bottom. The pickerel love it, you can find bass in there too. Drop shot is the only way. Texas rig gets all gunked up and doesn't swim right
I never used a drop shot because I fish from the bank and the main pond I fish in is about 15' deep but there's not really any ledges, humps, or anything. I've used a Texas rigged brush hog in there maybe 3 times, but with it the only way I got a bite was to cast it on the bank and drag it in which when it hit the water is when I got bit
Most small ponds are mostly soft mud on the bottom. This makes all bottom dragging baits nearly useless. Use the dropshot rig and this technique to keep your lure out of the mud on the bottom.
I generally use my shallow diving square bills, jerkbaits, spinners, paddle tail swimbait, or a chatterbait. The strangest thing about this pond is that I've caught more on white baits even though the clarity is about 6 inches. It's not full of monsters, the biggest one that I caught out of there was 2lb 7oz on a white H&H Cajun Spin. The week before, I caught one that was 1lb 14.5oz and it was on a Rapala XR8 in Glass Ghost Shad. I've tried the dark colors and I don't get a bite, I guess the bass in this pond don't read fishing articles or watch RUclips videos to know that they are confused
Gene, one other thing. If you have the ability to pass along ideas to your sponsors, I think Mustad's No-Twist Drop Shot hooks should incorporate a pinch-style line clip to attach the line down to the weight . . . where the weight itself has its own pinch-style clip. One less knot to tie AND you can use a lighter line down to the weight so that if the weight gets hung up, you can snap it off and save your hook and worm. Just an idea. Brad
Next time your tossing around a drop shot can you talk more about the size of hook and type and size of worms you like to use? I don't like to over complicate things but I do like to know the proper application of the technique. I know a senko isn't really a good worm for drop shotting. I've got some small Gambler worms but wondering if you could throw a few ideas back at us! Great video though! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the video. There’s one aspect of fishing a drop shot rig that I don’t get and hope that either you - or one of your subscribers who have experience using it - can explain. I thought that the technique is for fishing vertically, either from a boat or a pier or breakwater etc. from dry land. However, many pro anglers suggest that it can be cast out and, not only that, but fished in fairly shallow water. This I don’t understand, because the main line is not going to be perpendicular to the water, it’s going to be at a minimum of 45 degrees - if not more. Consequently, the lure will not be ‘swimming’ anywhere near horizontally in the water column - but either pointing down at a steep angle towards the bottom or upwards at a steep angle towards the surface. This strikes me as being a most unnatural presentation and would not fool a bass or, indeed, any other predatory fish! So, what am I missing? Help please!
hey Gene speaking for myself, if you was able to use illustrations under the water when you explain your technique this would help alot of us with visual. i am still trying to learn more and use your techniques on the water when i fish. i think this would help us to understand more with your explanations. thank you for teaching us to fish.
thank you Gene you are great at what you do. maybe using charts would help, i am only trying to help you to show more people like myself what and how the technique is actually working under water. thanks again
I just got the Creed GT after waiting on preorder direct from them for the past month or so. It has it's pro's and con's. It's definitely worth the 90 dollars. I can cast farther then any of my other reels which include a Shimano Stradic CI4, Pflueger Patriarch XT and a Quantum Energy PT. Point being that my reels are all over $ 100.00 and some are over $ 200.00. So for a $ 90.00 reel to cast way farther with the same line is impressive. Now the negative.... The drag system leaves a lot to be desired. It's only 13 pounds which is very light. Also, it does not click when pulling out line. I have never seen a drag system that doesn't scream when line is being pulled. My Quantum was like that when I got it, and it turned out that a piece was not properly placed inside the reel. I was able to fix that one. So not sure if that is a defect or not with this one. I will find out when I finally open it up. Still a great reel for the price. I highly recommend it.
Still my favorite RUclips fishing teacher. Great you're back
Thanks Douglas
hands down gene, you've got the best classroom on the Internet!
Great video. I go back and watch old videos you've done and still pick up on something new everytime. Best instructional videos out there!
Glad your back to instructional videos. Absolutely the best.
I like how you genuinely like helping ppl learn how to fish. Great video!
Love how you're still original. Will always watch your videos.
Must admit, almost gave up on the channel before you went back to the old ways of doing the instructional videos. Glad to see the old Gene again.
glad to see you've went back to your older style videos I enjoy them so much more
I've been watching your videos for hours and this is the first time I've seen you catch a fish!
+David Atherton That's why I teach. The fish don't always cooperate with the script.
And thank you for it. I'm 46 and I love to fish, but never really had time to learn how to do it right.
Gene this was a perfectly timed video. I'm going out to the lake Saturday and was rigging up a drop shot setup. I can't wait to get back to Bienville and fish.

Nice to see you back! Awesome fish!
Glad to see the old Fluke back, unmatched knowledge in these vids Gene, keep it up
Definitely adding this to my knowledge on the water! Thanks Gene.
I have been resistant to the drop shot thing, but I like how you present the style and will give it a legitimate try this year. Thanks Gene.
From the Edge 2 the Ledge if you haven’t tried it yet you need to!
Just stopping by to say the shirts of the month have been great! The last cammo bass one is fiyah!! Happy I signed up!
+Anglers Pursuit thanks
Hi Gene. I'm glad you mentioned the fishing shirt of the month in this video. I've got all your shirts so far and like them very much. Thanks
fluke I know you have already done this video but I liked it because I enjoy watching you fish. you teach very well and I thank you for the hard work.
I'm going to be remaking a lot of my old videos.
glad to see you back brother. definitely this is your style. keep doing you.
Thank you. This is one of the techniques I want to build confidence in next season, and this helps.
You're welcome.

John A Schwamm Sr drop shot is a game changer!
You are back on the boat - awesome!
For the next few the boat is used. You'll see me in the boat, kayak, and bank fishing this year.
Flukemaster I can't wait to see the bank videos
awesome!

I'll be down in Florida for the Kayak Bass Fishing "The 10" tournament.
Flukemaster that's cool! Good luck to you!
Flukemaster what part of fl?
Gene, you mentioned the reel you are using was a 3000 series. I haven't seen a video that describes the differences in spinning reels or what makes one better than the other. Nice video! I like this kind better than 100% blogs, I am entertained and get to learn too!
Awesome video; welcome back to your "roots"! can't wait to watch more of these kind of videos from @Flukemaster
Thanks Marc. It feels good to have my head on straight.
I've been doing this for about 3 years now... I guess the secret is out. This has been my most productive setup by far and it's really fun to use.
Great to have u back!
thanks Mike

Thanks for the tips! These are the types of videos I like from you!
Killer deal right there - the Tex-pose rig with an ewg has been very good to me. I think I like that 6.5" Plasma tail ~
This works great in Florida. Awesome stuff man.
Great vid Gene. This style of video is perfect
Thanks Keith
Want to say first and foremost thanks for all your videos they are tremendous...my question I have is how come you combine braid and fluorocarbon together instead of just spooling one or the other by itself thanks and have a great day
watch this video - ruclips.net/video/0P2TCsIKuRA/видео.html
I tie a uni to uni knot!
Another solid option in that situation is a Carolina rig with a leader long enough to keep your plastic on top of the grass.
Great video Gene your vids are the best at teaching and explaining a technique great job man👍🏻
I've missed the good ole instructional videos. Good vid dude!
love the instructional style video as always well done Fluke. Thank you.
Watched your wacky video last night and caught 6 this evening in the grass edge , 3lb 4 was the biggest...gonna give this a shot tomorrow
Fun to watch!
Great video!

Hunter Mercer sometimes you can’t beat a drop shot

Where do you buy the metal you use for the dropshot weights?
Thanks for sharing the good information. I cant wait to get out in my boat again this spring in northeast Ohio.
Do you ever make it out to the northwest?
I have been looking for some tips and techniques for this North West coast fishery. you can find some videos but not many. I have been learning bass fishing from guys down south via RUclips. we got the same gear but I wonder are the techniques being used the same with the water temps?
northwestwoodsmen i think the techniques will work anytwhere. You’ll just have to figure out time of year specific to you
Hey Flukemaster. Quick question, in your opinion would the drop shot be just as effective if you used a small offset worm hook? Or would it be best to stick with using the tiny hooks?
Just fishin Just livin you could try that. I use a roboworm rebarb hook
Hey Gene, I’d like to see a video where you make your drop shot weights.
+Glen Price I can do that. I'm almost out of them anyway.
I have a drop shot weights pouring video if your interested still
Can’t beat a plasma tail! I think they are so awesome! The colors are great. The sizes are good. And most importantly of all for me. They are pretty cheap for how long they last.
I'm really getting mad at the cold weather here in NY XD
Great video Gene!
This will work great on a few on the ponds I fish can't wait to try it out thanks Gene
You're welcome
Awesome video Gene! I enjoyed watching thanks for sharing!!
Do what you do sir. Great video.
What advice would you give in this same environment and situation but shore fishing instead of boat? Do any variations from where to pitch it or the retrieve method come to mind?
+Mike M nope. I'd fish it the same.
The same for sure man!

Finally fishing!!!! One of the notifications I've been waiting for!!!!!! I'm really not a fan of the drop shot. I enjoy a weightless senko more. I'll have to try it again this year.
Thanks, I wasn't a fan at first but it is a great way to offer a different presentation to the fish.
Awesome, I can't wait to see more of your videos for this new year keep it up Flukemaster!!!
Thanks
Medium light action huh? Do you pick that over a medium because of the sensitivity for the bite or the line? I tried the braid to leader once and for the life of me, I just couldn't tie the 2 together well enough to pass through the rod eyes. Nice video as always man.
Really looking forward to those reviews!
hey fluke, looking for some rod recommendations in the $120-150 price range for drop shotting and throwing around lighter tackle, what do you think i should look at?
cr0nick can’t beat Powell Rods man’. Love mine.
Ok with a small 1/0 ewg hook? Would this technique be ok from the bank?
Way to come back large in 2017! Can't wait to see more.
Drop shot won't ever fail when you need to absolutely catch a fish. Nice video 👍
The Fish Catcher agreed!
Some lakes by me have some really goopy stuff at the bottom. The pickerel love it, you can find bass in there too. Drop shot is the only way. Texas rig gets all gunked up and doesn't swim right

Nice to see you back at it good sir! Tight lines and to an awesome 2017 season!
Interesting way to fish the drop shot. Liked*
Realistic Fishing heyyyyy what's up
yo!
Gene, one other thing. You can dropshot any soft plastic. I list everything I use in the description of the video.
great to see this type of video again. keep up the great work 🖒🖒
Happy to see a video! Thx
Missed these videos!!
welcome back Gene. lol great video man
Probably won’t see this but I’m trying to learn the drop shot this year to fish with I’m my college tournaments. Do you have any more tips for me?
fairy wand that's jacked up but very funny great video appreciate you time and effort
what are the sunglasses and keeper you are using
Jonathan Watts check out nines optics!!!
Thanks for the video. There’s one aspect of fishing a drop shot rig that I don’t get and hope that either you - or one of your subscribers who have experience using it - can explain. Love the channel brotha! I implement some of that technique with our local Saltwater bass. Fish on!
glad to see another vid!!!
I love your vids man, keep it up
Drop shots are fun!
hey Gene speaking for myself, if you was able to use illustrations under the water when you explain your technique this would help alot of us with visual. i am still trying to learn more and use your techniques on the water when i fish. i think this would help us to understand more with your explanations. thank you for teaching us to fish.
+James Williams rarely is the water clear enough for under water videos. But I'll try when it is.
thank you Gene you are great at what you do. maybe using charts would help, i am only trying to help you to show more people like myself what and how the technique is actually working under water. thanks again
is that the new 13 fishing spinning reel? how do you like it?
+BigFishLittleBoat I love it
I just got the Creed GT after waiting on preorder direct from them for the past month or so. It has it's pro's and con's. It's definitely worth the 90 dollars. This was a great video thank you so much keep up the good work
Hey just curious are you still doing giveaways for fishing shirt of the month?
+Austin Bouchard I will be soon.
Flukemaster alright awesome! I've got all the shirts. Really great deal!
Flukemaster is back!
Would you be interested in coming and speaking at a Scouting event Saturday in Augusta
