I absolutely love your videos!! I lived in East Tennessee for 30 years and fished Douglas and Cherokee lakes. I wish I had known about this rig then. I know about it now though, thanks to you! Appreciate all you do for us weekend fishermen!! Keep you line tight!!!!
I appreciate your time in making videos and helping me learn from all your knowledge I just started bass fishing this year at 38 years old and I have a lot of catching up to do
I don't know what took me so long to subscribe. Your videos very informative and they always leave me wanting to get back on the water. Thanks for sharing.!
I honestly use braid to a long monofilament leader for this rig setup. With a elaztech plastics. I can fish this rig down to 30 ft and have the bait fall or rise up to 15 ft off the bottom
On a Texas rig your the bullet weight is directly connected to the line so I’m when it hits the water the weight curves on the fall. The free rig that drop shot weight falls straight down. No curve on the fall like a Texas rig weight where the weight falls back towards you.
I got the same reel. I've really beat on it and it's still like new😁😁😁 and k9 floro is in my mind some of the best cheap line you can spend your money on
I love the free rig, it's become one of my new confidence baits! I use a trick worm or a caffeine shad.. if I'm using the caffeine shad I'll let it all sink to the bottom, and then give it a hard jerk with my rod tip in that caffeine shad does a hard dart and then stops because the weight and the line keeps it from going any further than where the weight is. And I've been wrecking them on this rig lately... I posted it on my Instagram as a matter of fact holding a 4lb'r!! Great great bait to fish weed edges or grass lines!!! They come out after it an kill it... 💪
treehuggers …lol. Great vid , Hank! I have honestly never fished a free rig. I have known about it for yrs too. Okok, I’m getting some free rig weights. You rock!!
I have heard of this technique Hank, but have never fished it yet. Thanks for the demo and showing us how its done. I will be trying this technique next time I am out on the water.
I've always seen people fish the free rig finesse. But power free rig seems just as good if not better. Love that under water footage. Really good how to video.
Love the free rig, some great advice throwing an elastek bait, some other baits I love to throw on one is the Bio Spawn Vile Tube and the Big Bite Baits Fighting Frog
I've heard of this but never really got to try it yet, thanks for breaking it down and soon as I get off these 60+ hours a week I'll be adding this for sure brother
Thanks for the info Hank. I don’t peg my weight on Texas rig but that weight looks like it will slide further than a cone style weight. I will try some of those and a little heavier Thank you
Definitely going to try this method here in GA. Any recommendations for a slow sinking or floating plastic fluke (if it matters), preferably in a baby bass or ghost shad color? Thanks!!!
@@BassGeek thanks bro! Yeah I got plenty of zooms and yums for the job. Think imma try the pumpkin seed w/ chartreuse tail with this method. Been productive on the Texas rig, so this approach should keep it the strike zone a little longer with a more natural retrieve and hopefully make my pole go to sleep on the hook set lol
Hey bassgeek I've been watching you for a long time and I gotta tell ya you are a talented angler and a very good teacher thanks for the videos and the time you spend makeing these videos to help us become a better angler' and bassgeek you are not dumb or ugly bro your a great guy and anybody who does this like you do that means a lot to us. God bless you and your family your pal fisherman Mike. Ps I just subscribed to your channel and I hit the like button and the bell so I know what new videos are coming. Thanks again.
Thank you sir very much I love to poke a little fun at myself and get a laugh or two. I'm not the type of guy that would poke fun at others so I'm far game. hahaha Thank you for joining the BassGeek Nation!
Hey Hank, fall transition is right around the corner & in some places happening now. Fishing will be tough for a bit. Thanks for the great tips. Love this technique!👊
Hank. Another great video You make this rig a bit heavier for your deeper water. I’m running a little lighter on medium spinning gear. Your camera work shows the worm dancing like she’s on Solid Gold. That piece should be a million view short. Be well my friend
Well I bought some of those weights you showed haven’t caught a bass yet. Went back to a cheap bass casting sinker back to catching fish . Guess a lot of this tackle out there really doesn’t catch any more bass than the cheap stuff
I've tried it but there is more friction in the bullet weight and it's not as smooth I don't think as the small rig on the free weight. So it doesn't seem to float back up as easy.
Would like to see what this rig looks like in deeper water I am not convinced it is nothing more than a glorified Texas rig, although with that weight it should fall straight down.
It does and I’ve tested in the pool the heavier the weight the further the bait ends up away grime the weight. Now water depth also matters. Once you pull the bait down it doesn’t float up as far. Hoops will help but but still not gonna be as high up and the first drop
Still not sure about this rig. Been trying it . Doesn't feel like the bait floats that much. Been throwing the z man floating worm. Rather throw a Tokyo rig or C rig.
Hey every body of water is different and some things work here and not there. As far as floating be sure you have a light hook or the hook will weigh the bait down.
Do you always have to shake the slack? Looks like if you hope it to 12 o’clock then it would get slack when it sinks correct? Or do I need to go back to Physics class lmao
Just a little but it will still come up some. If you drag it. Like you said if you hope it it will come back up but you may need to give it just a little shack
I don't like z man elastic soft plastics baits because I bought a pack of need worms and they all got stuck and melted together so I haven't bought any zman soft plastics
You got the wrong kind. If it says Fluoro it is a copolymer. Pro 100 is 100% Fluorocarbon. Trust me I get it I wish they would change the label also. Take that line you have put it on a crank, spinnerbait, or anything moving and tell me you don’t love it after. If it is 15ft or less and a horizontally moving bait try the line you have. You will love it. Chatterbaits, not in grass lol
Are you Geek enough for the #100percentwatchsquad I've been doing a fluke on a drop shot lately because I wanted to get that bait off the bottom some. But I'm certainly going to switch to a free rig. I bet it has way less line twist than a drop shot! Club...squad..close enough there, Hank!🤣

Yeah I have been using a co-poly lately and like it much better.
I would argue this is closer to and better than a shaker head. Excellent setup!
Yeah sort of
Thank you. Struggling to understand why I can’t get a similar effect by letting my Texas Rig sinkers slide freely. Any guidance? Ty.
You might but for the most part it comes down to the design of the weight.
On a Texas rig your the bullet weight is directly connected to the line so I’m when it hits the water the weight curves on the fall. The free rig that drop shot weight falls straight down. No curve on the fall like a Texas rig weight where the weight falls back towards you.

Awesome video as always Hank! I put a bead between the sinker and hook to protect them knot and adds a little click clack. Tight lines brother!
I like that tweak
Great idea! Love your videos. You've definitely helped me become a better fisherman.
Thank you now If I could only do the same for my self. lol
Love the free rig, some great advice throwing an elastek bait, some other baits I love to throw on one is the Bio Spawn Vile Tube and the Big Bite Baits Fighting Frog
Awesome info! Thank you very much.
Hank another good bait to use is the game changer lures the eeliminator that frog looking thing with the long tail man it has great action
Yeah man I dig that thing during the spawn
I've heard of this but never really got to try it yet, thanks for breaking it down and soon as I get off these 60+ hours a week I'll be adding this for sure brother
Shew I'm sorry. I know we can hit 70-80hr weeks at times and man they suck.
i’ve been struggling to get bites lately i’m gonna try this rig out for sure! love the strike king elaztec baits thanks for the tips 🤝

Well I bought some of those weights you showed haven’t caught a bass yet.

Great video as always. Can't wait to try it
Good luck it catch'em.
Got my Berkeley water dogs & free weights coming the 27th from tackle warehouse lol I'll let you know how it turns out!
Hech yeah let me know for sure.
Would a sliding t rig with floating plastic essentially do the same thing?
I've tried it but there is more friction in the bullet weight and it's not as smooth I don't think as the small rig on the free weight. So it doesn't seem to float back up as easy.
You might have just added something new to my tackle box, i’ll have to see if i can find some of these weights.
