Excellent video content. Thank you for allowing Luis to speak about kayak angler technique. I hope you will allow Luis to speak in future presentations.
Forgot to include in my previous response. I fish from a yak primarily at Roosevelt and Bartlett. I realize that the jerk bait has been beaten to death by all good RUclips presenters. It is difficult for me to stand up on my yak, especially when windy. Could Luis provide some pointers on how to fish a jerk bait while I’m sitting in my yak seat at a later time? Thank you again for having a yak angler on your staff and for this insightful technique today! I’ll be at Roosevelt Sunday to practice this great technique. Tight lines.
Easy to fish a jerk bait from a yak. I do it everyday. I jus keep it along the water jerk sideways along the water jus make sure u don’t hit ur rods on a cast if u have them standing up then u jus jerk in front of u along the water pretty simple almost easier than standing IMO
@@thehookuptackle_usa I especially enjoyed the convo over some of the mental aspects of staying in the game when you had Oliver Ngy on. Have a good weekend!
The flying lure did this 30 years ago, same concept of this video, this is a killer technique for bed fishing, pull it past while they are chasing it and let it swim back in their face and they choke it
Great video guys. I recently used the Jackall Driftcraw 4.0 to fish under docks and laydowns and let me tell you it is a great gliding bait. Just flip on the target and let your rod down to make a great glading action.
Very well done 👏. I had forgotten about using this down at my overgrown urban creek. I really liked how you and the staff explained the situations in which you guys fish, and how you adapt to fish those conditions. Thanks guys and hello from Southern California.
Back in the late 80s, there was a flat tube bait with a special flat insert jig head (hook point by the head of bait and line tie by the tentacles). It was promoted to glide under docks. I was probably around 12 or 13 years old at the time. My dad probably still has some in his tackle box.
Because Al Langer chose to go the infomercial route to get his lure out there, it was never taken seriously by most hardcore bass guys. But it did (and I would assume still does) work as advertised. ruclips.net/video/gVeno21_Y6M/видео.html
Jackall Cover Craw is my go to back glider for years now. It’s the first JDM backslider I found 5 years ago designed to be fished in this rigging style 🤙🏽
In the Table Rock Lake area. We rear nail weighted a zoom centipede worms back in the 1980s. 10# line or less. This caught thousands of fish back then ,but most people used them Texas rigged with a small bullet sinkers. But the secret was nail weighting. When fishing is tough this bait is still a killer in clear to stained water.
Hey hook-up, I always look forward to your shows. You put so much into quality information and I appreciate that, however finish the simple and just change out the blue gravel to natural so we can see the contrast of the baits,Thanks for your contribution to this thing of ours! Luis!!!! My dog! Glad he got some face time. Luis and I talked for around 2 hours about kayaks and the tours coming up. Need to text him when I’m back over that way!
Great vid guys! Love my Do-Live fats!! Use them on chatterbaits to get bigger bites, now the back slide baby!!!!! Thanks Griff, we need a 1v1 back slide so you can whoop the ol’ man!!!🔥🔥🔥👊🏻
I’ve also had a lot of good luck fishing back gliding baits on the edge of grass lines as well as picking up bed fish (if you’re into that, not my favorite, but if you choose to do so, the bait gliding back at the fish is a presentation they don’t see a lot of and can trigger a response). Thank you all for some new baits to try with this technique!
Love your channel but haven't had anything to comment on (until now)! So I thought I should break the ice .........I am a 3rd gen Japanese-American and am intrigued with anything fishing-wise that is related to Japan, whether tackle, techniques or Japanese anglers (go Taku!) And I speak a little Japanese and wanted to let you know that Ika is pronounced ee-ka, not eye-ka, and it translates as squid. Whereas Neko is pronounced neck-o and not nee-ko and translates as cat. Keep the wonderful vids coming and I hope to visit your candy store soon!
My favorite technique and go to. Don’t underestimate a Fat Ika on #2-6 on ML rod, with a dropshot hook for open water and in grass beds. Especially for you pond guys. You also get a lot of distance with it.
In South Korea, this is known as the 'no-sinker rig' and my buddy has been using it successfully for 5+ years. These days his favorite soft plastic to use is the Do-Live Stick FAT.
Jeff...yes kayak paddles suck. I'm on my 4th year of setup evolution; mainly dual purpose setups, like your vid states. Thanks for the tip. My new thing is using my many rod holders for paddle storage; a full length paddle that breaks down to an oar with a Hobie T-handle, and a 1 handed oar. Trying to get down to a 3 rod setup, lol.
.... and I thought you were going to say grubs are the soft plastic thats been around a long time. I have Yamamoto fat Ika's just sitting there ever since purchased, I'm more inspired to give them a try now if they are not hard as a rock by now. I always enjoy your content, you even have my wife watching with me now. LOL makes it easier to secure the CFO tackle decisions.
Never seen this rig before and happened to have a pack of damiki hydras that are almost exact copies of that Yamamoto bait you started with. Gonna try it out under docks and overhangs
Fat Ika is a great bait! Works in every state. The actual pronunciation of the bait is eeka. Ika is japanese for squid. Just saying.... Love all your videos.

You didn't mention whether or not you added any kind of weight to this rig. Also whether you use spinning or casting gear and what pound test line. Thanks
Great technique. I think some other spots where this would be effective would be edges of matted vegetation and undercut banks. I just rolled out a video on the OSP DoLive shot. Rigged it a few different ways. I’m no big YT guys with tons of influence like y’all but if you’ve got 6 minutes and could check it out I think you would like it. That bait on the Neko is 🔥
I’ve dealt with the same type of deep water pontoon docks while fishing deep harbors in Lake Michigan, it sounds like I need to add a back gliding bait to my arsenal
LOL- Kids today- back in my day sonny we had this thing called "television" and on the boob tube was something called "the flying lure" - sold by Roland Martin- and it was designed to glide away from you on the fall. That and the Banjo minnow were probably the two most popular "as seen on t.v." style baits back then. Berkley came out with one a couple years back to- Ike's idea, not too bad, it works- I picked a pack up out of the discount bin at my local tackle shop so I think they got discontinued- not a real popular bait. It would glide away from you into the cover but- it was a finesse style bait with an open hook on it so, then you would either get hung up or end up wrapped up because you're fishing light line in heavy cover. Wasn't thought out very well apparently.
I played around with this technique a lot this year (late summer) with the TK twister and it fucking killllllllled. Won a tournament using it under docs/ around flooded tree stumps. Also very easily skippable in calm water. 3/0 EWG was my preferred in the 4.5 inch.

What are your feelings on the jackall cover craw? I’ve been using it for years with the technique you are talking about but with limited success, because the bait is pretty far and I haven’t found a hook with wide enough gap to make it more effective. Any suggestions?
I think there are a lot of JP baits (mostly soft ones) and techniques that are not so productive outside Japan 'cause most anglers are not confident with or they do not know how to utilise them properly. Here in Europe I had great success with Dolive stick, Cover scat and an other similar soft bait (I do not write the name just in case you'll remove my post as it occurred in the past), as well as techniques like free rig, spy baiting and so on.... But just my opinion
Get a Nucanoe frontier 12 or the ultimate. They'll hold 650lbs or one person and 35 poles. But you can lock em down with spot lock and have a motor on back. Ones things for sure, you can't be throwing that megabass arms while paddling a sun dolphin.

The Keitech Salty Core Tube is underrated
Could you use a small nail weight in the head,or would it impede the movement?
This could be so good around floating docks
It's officially come full circle. Flying Lure, Banjo Minnow, and Helicopter Lure all making a comeback!
Can you throw this with a free rig weight? Would you throw this on braid to leader or straight fluoro? I’d like to try this on an xbites or an FMJ.

Do y’all think a backsliding free rig would work?
Hmm. Dang it. I'll have to try it and report back. I free rig the DoLive shot all the time, but never thought to rig the bait as a backslide.

No Salty Core Tube love?
Maybe a super light nail weight will over power but maybe a screw lock wedged in might be good
I’ve been doing that since flying lure
Funny how this is brought up when we jist finished our design specifically for a backside rig
Hookup tackle are you going to get the 2022 shimano slx dc xt and how much is it going to cost me
I wanted to see the powerbait in the test tank.
Crawfish style baits become a back glider and a shaky head all in to one with a neko sinker plus I punch with it and it’s still a glider
Great video! I hope NO ONE in my area sees it.
Haha! 🍻
Have not seen those in a long time
Old School
I like it. its weightless version of the small child rig.
This concept is not new because the "Flying Lure", by Alex Langer which is very good, people laughed at but the fact is it caught fish.
You can do any bait that with a Neko sinker , creatures too and if u go large neko u can punch a glider
Where did Griff get that hat?
That's a collaboration between Swimbait Underground and our friend Manny Chee 👍
Kayak at Canyon lake, they have a motorless area.
Get a Nucanoe frontier 12 or the ultimate. They'll hold 650lbs or one person and 35 poles. But you can lock em down with spot lock and have a motor on back. Ones things for sure, you can't be throwing that megabass arms while paddling a sun dolphin.
The Berkley bait looks a lot like the Jackall cover craw
Would the Deps Bull Flat work for this technique?
It works similar to the DoLive gill. Not as true of a back glide, but some.
You can put a little nail weight in the nose of any creature and most craw baits rigged backwards to turn it into a killer back slide bait.
Of course heavier the nail weight the faster the slide or fall.
Or there are a ton of creatures now with big thick noses so rigged backwards you don't need a nail weight.
OSP Do Live Stick Fat IMO is the best bait for this application
Oooooo... fun!!
