Gene, thanks to you, i not only had my best morning on the water, but i got my PB then beat that and got a 6.5lb with a drop shot.I live in Vancouver Washington, across the river from Portland, local lake isn't known for huge bass. I had all top water tied up the night before, then ran across this video. Decided to tie up a drop shot on my wife's rod. Never tried a drop shot, never see anyone use it at my lake. I fish the bank only, no boat and lucky if i land one in a day. Got there at before sunrise, threw a buzz, then a whopper plopper, a frog, then i tossed a swim jig, before i could close the bail my line was running. Pulled up a little 2 pounder. Then for about 30 minutes nothing was going on, lost my swim jig. Tossed a Texas rig, nibbles but no full bites. Then i decided to try the drop shot. I tied a straight shank with the worm lock to go weedless. Put a 4" yum dinger on with a 1/4 skinny weight. I COULD NOT KEEP THEM OFF MY HOOK. for about a full hour i was nailing them over and over. Then about 730am they quit committing and the temp was getting a little high almost 90. I was still getting bites but they were short striking. By far the best day fishing today, and i have you to thank for it! Might even call in to work tomorrow, use up some pto and hit the lake again 😂. It's supposed to be 115° tomorrow, so early morning should be good. If you ever come up my way I'd love to fish with you. Best RUclips fisherman by far.
I liked your video on drop shorting I used a drop shot over 60 years ago for catfish and perch I used two hooks the high hook I caught perch and the lower hook catfish I just still fished it with worms now I will try it for bass. With rubber worms thanks for lighting my fire on this technique
Nice work! I live in Milwaukie, OR and fish for smallies as much as possible on my kayak. I remember that 115 day very well, that was an insane day for our area! Hope that never happens again.
You truly have the best videos. You want people to learn and help them catch more fish without slamming product advertisements down our throats. Out where i live if you were to ask a bass fisherman what they were catching them on they would lie and say they were using something opposite of what they were actually using. I don't even ask people what they use. Cause I can learn from your videos and go try these on my own
Gene, watched you 5 yrs ago. Then my wife unexpectedly passed away. I always loved all your content. I have since become a BPT official, because she always wanted me to do it. Im also fishing the MLF Phoenix series now. Ive never used the drop shot, just didn't like finesse fishing. But now of course Its a vital part of my arsenal. Your video has helped me tremendously. Also It was so good to hear your voice again, it reminds me of my wife now.. Thank you Gene. Good luck with all your vids buddy. God Bless. Curt
you are doing a very good job at explaining what ever your talking about without being to wordy and it feel like you videos end when they should many "youtubers" could learn from how you are doing it. Keep up the good work
Thank you for your greet videos, was watching your video on Texas rigging for a better turn out and helped my son tie the Texas rig and after 6 fish caught near the house he turned to me and said “dad can we go fishing Sunday where you go near your work” well we went today and we were out from 8-4:30 and he was upset to leave. 4 big large mouth down and he can’t wait to go again. Thank you so much for all of the knowledge. My father was never a fisherman or hunter so I learn everything second hand and do my best to teach my kids so they don’t struggle. Thank you again
Thanks for making these videos. I remember watching and learning from the first drop shot video you made years ago. It has now become my confidence finesse rig and I can’t count the amount of fish we caught with it. Appreciate you and your great content for making fishing accessible for people wanting to get into it!
I encourage you to try the Alberto knot instead of FG. Easy, strong and fairly small profile. I used to use a double Uni but now the Alberto is all I use for all leaders. Great video!
Thank you for sharing your experienced techniques and knowledge! I recently got back into bass fishing which I haven't done in over 20 years. The person who got me back into it is my 6 year old son who loves watching fishing videos. Trying to remember how to fish for bass wasn't going so well until I found your channel. Your advice on swim jigs made me look like a master angler to my son, lol which is not even close to being true. What a game changer! Thank you so very much for your videos!
As I grow my own channel I often look to you to make sure I'm doing things right. This is one of those times. Seeing what you have accomplished is truly an inspiration. Keep doing what you're doing.
Great video! thank you! Caught my first smally today and several more! Tried senkos, tried crank baits nothing was working as the fish were sitting in about 35 feet of water off a point. FINALLY got some! Tons of fish in that spot and we just couldn't get em til now. we're new to this so thank you again!
drop shot magic...thanks for keeping it simple! I love the weedless rig! I fish a lake with a hydrilla highway and the bite is slow but there are some MONDOS so its worth the wait! Using this application should land a big one! I'll take the small ones too!
I’ve started rigging my drop shots with a ned rig craw or shaky head for my bottom weight and it has been producing heavy this fall (on both hooks, lol) and the action between the two lures is excellent (basically mimics a baitfish and craw messing with each other, looking distracted) Obviously need to up the fluoro, but when it’s slow you can swim it back clean and it looks like a bluegill chasing a minnow.
Weedless drop shot with offset hooks is one of my favorite rigs to throw. Pitching and punching in and around cover on my kayak gets them in the boat and on the board!
I'm 50 and tournament fished my entire life ,off and on, great information and know how for sure! Being a uga fan definitely lets me you know what's up! Great video brother!
Suggestion on weights. Out here in Western Oregon we fish Steelhead a lot.. Drift rig uses __hollow core lead that comes on a roll. Cut off length you want and simply crimp tag end into hollow lead and crimp with pair of pliers.. Get hung up and a good jerk yanks line out of lead..
Mr. Gene, as always your videos are so easy to watch and follow. I'm working on using different rigs this season to improve my fishing and can't wait to try these to versions. Thanks for what you do.
I watch a lot of fishing videos and your has to be one of the very best instructional videos I have seen. You do a fantastic job of explaining how and why to employ the technique. Thank you very much :)
Love using the robo worms on the dropshot i go weedless with the drop shot hook by just tucking the tip in by the worms head . Its my go to when fish are never biting
Old vid, new comment but just wanted to add that those spinshot vmc hooks have been awesome and I migrated to them exclusively. They have little swivels to eliminate twist and they spin 360 freely. Highly recommend
Hey Gene! I've had the most success with the wacky rig, but at a cost. Every time I've caught a bass with it, the fish nearly swallows the hook and I have a hard time (feeling like a surgeon) trying to get that hook out, with about a 50% success rate, (yes, I've inadvertently killed a fish or 2). A buddy of mine says I'm not feeling it and setting the hook in good time, but the times I've got bites with the wacky, I feel like there wasn't response time allowed. Bait hits the water, bobber hits, sinks, pops back up and immediately sinks again. As if that fish had aimed face to the sky and mouth wide open, catching it like popcorn thrown by a date. From cast to full on bite, less than 3 seconds passes. Maybe I'm not setting hard enough to work that hook back out to the mouth opening, but I'm also not wanting to rip a fish's entire gullet, tongue and rest of the mouth all up, just setting the hook. I've gone back-n-forth between the wacky and the Texas. Not much success with the Texas, but definitely less harm to the fish, in my specific case anyway. Any thoughts?
Thank you! Great video on fishing a drop shot rig. You really make things simple and easy to understand. Any tips on how to tie a fluorocarbon leader onto braided line?
I have a question about how to fish structuring such as cedar trees, hardwoods and brush piles that may be in depths of 15-25 feet. Next question is along the same type of structure: can I cast past the trees/brush pile, bring the bait back through as if fishing a big worm but only much slower retrieve?? Mike
I love the 13fishing fate black rods, I have a 7' 1 med and light. They're super sensitive and you feel even the slightest hits. Thank you for this video, I've been looking to try drop shots and your video I think I really going to help. Tight lines 😁🎣
I’ve watched a ton of your videos recently to learn the way since I’ve been out of fishing for so long. A lot of new techniques since I more or less stopped fishing. I moved over from long range shooting and NV stuff thinking this would be a cheaper hobby….. I was mistaken. Anyway, awesome content, very knowledgeable and you’re helping me to set up my initial kit. Thanks!
I had aaron martens show me his knot and he uses the same knot gman uses. Pulls his tag end thru and uses rhe knot to keep his hook up right. Works nice
Do you have a video on the knot connecting the braid to fluorocarbon? I typically tie my braid to the hook, then use a length of 2lbs mono for the weight. But I like the idea of the fluoro leader for a less visible line. I had never thought about the line buoyancy either. Makes sense to use a line that'll sink...
Ive been experimenting with the light weight robo straight hooks and skin hook it on the side of the worm. It lets me still use my medium light and the hook sets are super smooth.
Thank you for a highly instructional training video. The cast and retrieve portion was easy to visualize. I fish from a kayak. Good tips but it would have been better if you took them out of the packs and showed them

Thanks man. You nailed it…. A good question to ask us how deep were you fishing and what speed? That will narrow down a lot of the guesswork

I'm so sorry to hear that brother. I can't begin to imagine. It's good that you are back at it.
The simplest, most effective, my most favorite rig of all. Absolutely love it.
you are doing a very good job at explaining what ever your talking about without being to wordy and it feel like you videos end when they should many "youtubers" could learn from how you are doing it. Keep up the good work
I subscribed for two reasons, great instructions and the hat. GO DAWGS!
Tried drop shot finally after being a big ned rid fisherman.
Caught three tonight! Cool bite feel as well.
Thank you

Man I love how you can literally talk us through all different scenarios. Great job bud. Thanks for doing what you do 🏆💙🏆
Thanks
I’ve watched a dozen drop shot videos the last two days… this is by far the most helpful. Thank you
Gene, thank you for teaching us the proper way to set up our rig and showing us the techniques to be better anglers… and by the way Roll Tide…👍🏻
I’ve seen dozens of videos mention to use a floro leader but no one actually explain why! Great video thanks Gene!
No kidding ... I thought the bait was actually supposed to float ... not sink. Love watching Gene's videos.
Thanks for making these videos. I remember watching and learning from the first drop shot video you made years ago. It has now become my confidence finesse rig and I can’t count the amount of fish we caught with it. You know why I like old Gene, if I ever have a question about how to fish something you are there for me 👊
I encourage you to try the Alberto knot instead of FG. Easy, strong and fairly small profile. I used to use a double Uni but now the Alberto is all I use for all leaders. Great video!
Thanks for the instructions, caught 5-6 bass today using your advice

Dude best presentation on a fishing video ever!!! Wanted to watch more when it stopped. Gene you are the MAN!!! Very informative too!!!

I finally gave the drop shot a try... It has become a favorite technique...
I like your way to do work and talk no talking junco and tracking that os good. Keep up.
That gold label is the bomb 💣 Its thinner than other lines and stronger. Love that stuff.
I watch a lot of fishing videos and your has to be one of the very best instructional videos I have seen. You do a fantastic job of explaining how and why to employ the technique. Thank you very much :)
Wow, thanks!
Thanks Gene ... Finally bought the straight shank hooks with the barn .. Can't wait to try them... The Frye Guy
Best Explanation of drop shot rigging and usage style s I've seen yet on You Tube !!! Well Done THX !
Thanks for the info, I really gonna try using the dropshots at the beginning of this video, after not having any luck fishing the last few times.
Love using the robo worms on the dropshot i go weedless with the drop shot hook by just tucking the tip in by the worms head . Its my go to when fish are never biting
I had that exact hat .. I loved that hat .. my nefew lost it out the car window driving down the long island expressway quite a few years back
Old vid, new comment but just wanted to add that those spinshot vmc hooks have been awesome and I migrated to them exclusively. They have little swivels to eliminate twist and they spin 360 freely. Highly recommend
I always use robo worms. Never thought to wacky rig them tho. I will try that next time. Thanks for the tip
Great video. My favorite weedless set up is with a #4 offset worm hook. My favorite baits with this set up is a 5" thin Senko or 3" thin.
First time viewer, instantly subscribed. Most informative fishing video I've ever watched. GOD BLESS YOU BROTHER!!!!!
As they all say, great video without sales. You show it all. Good job and go fishing rverybody!! THX
Best explanation on the drop shot that I have seen on you tube THX
Thank you so much for these videos, they have helped me learn to bass fish more than you'll ever know!
Always looking out for people with great tips. Much respect
Appreciate that
Really appreciate your tips on fishing the drop shot. Can’t wait to try your technique. Thank you

Your the best fluke! This was the best dropshot video I've watched and I've watched alot my new favorite channel for learning new techniques 👊
Thank you! Great video on fishing a drop shot rig. You really make things simple and easy to understand. Any tips on how to tie a fluorocarbon leader onto braided line?
Best in depth video I've seen your informative delivery was great!!!
I just caught a couple fish at a local pond using the drop shot. Thanks for all of the tips, I will try them next time.
Excellent demo on dropping. I thought I knew how to fish this way until I watched YOU!
Subbed
All good tips. I've recently taken to using a small (#8 or 10) Spro swivel a few inches above the hook to avoid all of the line twist.
Glad to see this video was actually getting a little worried.
I use bullet weights with a glass bead. Saves me ton of money on hardware.
Also you gotta have a swivel eliminates most of the lie twist
The cannonball weights are great for bottom fishing trout in snag filled likes. They seem to hold in place on the bottom better then the other styles.
Very nice video, but do not forget about using lead in rocks and tungsten weights for the rest as Mark Davis would tell us.
I like your teaching style. you earned a subscriber.
Thank you for the videos. They are really helping get better quality fish.
Thank you sir. Very detailed im going this sunday and I will try this.
Drop shot is classic and will forever catch fish. Great video as always! #tightlines 🤙
Thank you so much, you just chow us the most easy way to have a drop chut wich I love to learn it
I have a spot i want to try this where the smaller bass school..thanks for the tips!
Gamakatsu it's the boss! The sharpest hook I've known
thanks for the tutorial Gene.. I would love to try this anytime soon at lumot lake here in the Philippines.. God bless...
My next bass catching technique! Thank you for this one! Enjoy your vids as I learn to outsmart bass. Trout just have too much of an attitude for me.
Caught 12 lbs carp and 6 lbs catfish on a drop shot so far! one of the best and easiest rigs
Thanks for explaining the "why".
I have a question about how to fish structuring such as cedar trees, hardwoods and brush piles that may be in depths of 15-25 feet.
Next question is along the same type of structure: can I cast past the trees/brush pile, bring the bait back through as if fishing a big worm but only much slower retrieve??

I just rigged this up. Will be using it tomorrow. Question, can you get those slip weights at Cabelas/bass pro?
I had aaron martens show me his knot and he uses the same knot gman uses. Pulls his tag end thru and uses rhe knot to keep his hook up right. Works nice
Awesome video sir , been fishing for years and I picked up some pointers here , thank you!!! Have a happy new year!!!

Love your videos Always the Best Resource
Io sono contento di vedere questi video
Thank you very much for the very informative video!!
Thanks for the information you give out
This video was great. I watched it twice because I am cleaning too 😁
Good stuff Gene! 👀 🎣 👊🏼💯🇺🇸
Thanks for the tips my friend!
Man I've been tying that knot for 20+ years and I never thought to pass back though like that. Dang That made me feel dumb. Great video.
Awesome great information you explain it very well this will help me out thanks
Subscribed because of hat. Go Dawgs!
Great video sir! Thank you for your brief and succinct video and teaching style!!! Subscribed and liked!!!!!
Love the videos! So much info! Thank you!
GREAT VIDEO! what are your thoughts on using VMC wacky weedless hooks?
Hands down one of the top 5 in-depth video on drop shot fishing! Great video man!
Thank you. I am getting in to drop shot fishing
Due to yak space limitations, would you ever remove your weight and fish as a weightless presentation with a 12-14” tag end dangling? Would be nice to have a multi purpose rod.
Thank you for any consideration to my question.
If you wanted to do that you’d probably wanna just tie a wacky rig on tbh
Love your channel!!!! Thank you for your time
I wanna know the color of that trick worm . Lol looked custom made . Thanks John
With a leader that long you don't have issues with the know fouling up in the reel ? I have tried that many times and I loose casting distance. I try keeping the leader at least the length of the rod keeping the know out of the spool. Great video.
Boom shakalaka! Tttttiny bass! That's my Mercer impersonation. Great video. I can't wait to get out there and do some drop shotting for smallmouths.
Thank you for teaching I.
