I used this genius technique in an art class with middle schoolers, they loved it! We used pointy bamboo skewers to initially poke through the coil, and then switched to a thicker wooden dowel when the opening was large enough. Thank you for sharing your many inspiring and creative ideas!!!

To make the vases where you could put water in them for real flowers, roll the clay over a glass tube.

Try and leave a bit of a gap between the glass and the clay so it has room to contract, or it will crack. Thanks for watching ❤️

Clever and nice process 👍 but I wonder, wouldn't it be easier to roll the clay out flat, wrap it around the dowel and then roll it? Lovely vases.
For certain shapes yes the slab and roll technique works well, I do a lot of this kind of thing with kids and this way is by far the easiest for them and quick, always do whatever works best for you. Thanks

Love making these little vases! The ends dry so quickly when rolling out. Is there a way to keep that from happening? I had to keep smoothing them with a bit of water. Thank you for sharing your wonderful ideas with everyone 😍
Good to hear you are having fun making them, you could always cut the end off? Cut against the cylindrical item/pencil. But I just smooth the cylinder of clay really well before inserting the pencil and then roll, hope it works out, thanks for watching

Thank you for this video! That's so clever! I've just spent the whole afternoon trying to make a vase with a rounded bottom using tin foil to shape it... really not the easiest way. LOL! I'm going to work with polymer clay instead, but I think it will work just as well with the dowel idea... plus, watching your video, I realized I shouldn't limit myself to a simple round. (I'm using the polymer because I do want to be able to use it for flowers-- and cannot find a bud vase nowadays.)
