- Easy, quick and so effective...enjoy.
As with all candles, lit candles should not be left unattended and don't let a candlestick burn low, making sure the flame is not near the clay, just to be on the safe side. I use mine mainly for decorative purposes when not lit. Thank you

I love the coaster by the way: really simple design but the pepper really makes it pop! I should totally try it! ♡♡♡
He sure does, heehee.
It's so simple isn't it, yes give it a whirl ❤️ thank you
Ooo I'm guessing you can use colored sand too? Clever and inspiring. Have been thinking about how to make some replacement candle holders for some wrought iron pieces. Thank you so much.
Yes coloured/plain sand gives lovely texture too 😊
Muitos lindos parabéns 👏👏👏👏
Obrigada 💖
Nice! I wonder how paprika or cinnamon would work? Think I'll try it!
Hi, thanks, plenty of people have asked similar so I did a textures video.... ruclips.net/video/p-PCA-osi40/видео.html and in this I did use cinnamon, not my favourite to be honest but there are better
I love your creations. What is that thing you put like a glue to stick the clays together? Thanks.
Thank you, it is SLIP: ruclips.net/video/rAVO7i68c4k/видео.html you can see here... just watery clay
Cute pieces! I love the flower holder! And the pepper effect is so clever! I assume that herbs and spices can then be also applied according to the colours and texture we wish to achieve (eg. oregano, turmeric, cinnamon)?
thanks, a video where i make rustic plates etc is coming soon to my channel and i use others like this in that yes
Hi my name is Claudine and I have a little tip for you, if you add a little bit of pve glue (wood glue) your clay will not tear anymore. Greetings Claudine
How do you mean stopping it tear? Thanks
@@RedRockingBird I mean that the clay can crack or show bumps after drying and with wood glue the clay becomes more flexible. Maybe my translator isn't working quite well, apologies for that. Greetings Claudine from The Netherlands
Es arena y algo más? Muchas Gracias!
pimienta, como en sal y pimienta, funciona de maravilla, gracias
very nice :) I like the clay you're using, so far I've been able to only find the orangey type in Poland...
The terracotta one is lovely too and you can use it and paint it just the same ❤️
Ooh I love that vase ! Love your channel too new subbie here x
Hi and welcome, thank you, happy holidays 😊
❤so beautiful going to give this a go. Do you leave the circular stand flat on the board until fully dried or do you move so it doesn’t stick to your tile 😊 I’m such a beginner 🤣🤣 🥰
Thank you, the clay comes clean off my tiles but if in doubt move it a bit, you could always put on a piece of flat cloth and it will come off, I normally do turn over part way through drying though and make sure that it’s not curling up 😊 best of luck
@@RedRockingBird thank you for all your help, much appreciated 🥰
@@Lisasalty you are very welcome, thank you for reaching out and watching
Prettyy!😍😍 Love your voices though! May I know what glue that you used? Is it a glue or something else? This looks fun to give it a try😆
Aw thank you, the 'glue' is air dry clay slip: ruclips.net/video/rAVO7i68c4k/видео.html Yes give them all a try
Nice
Thanks 😊
can you recommend a flame safe glaze for something like this?
Best asking about it to the manufacturer or reading the packaging, many are flammable and have the flammable sticker but many are water based and I would imagine would be the best bet, it’s something I do w ant to look into more and experiment with, thanks
Would it be possible to embed a thin mesh or cloth between very thin air-dried clay pieces to make jewelry (like earrings) that was not so heavy as the 1/4 inch thickness required for strength?
Yes definitely, I too have been meaning to experiment, let us know how yours work out ❤️
⁰
Just found your videos and I must say they are brilliant ❤ being a beginner what is slip please 😊
Hi, Welcome, it is just a mixture of clay and water that you make up in small batches and store in an air tight container, I made a video as so many people asked: ruclips.net/video/rAVO7i68c4k/видео.html
Thanks ❤
Thanks 😊
Hello. I'm new to your channel. Can you please tell me if is some type of glue you are using in the container with the brush..thanks
Hi, welcome, it’s slip, clay and water, I have a video about it as so many people ask 😊❤️ m.ruclips.net/video/rAVO7i68c4k/видео.html thanks
How long will your homemade slip stay good to use?
I tend to make in small batches, as if you can anything in there that doesn't want to be in there it could go moldy!
I know this may be a ridiculous question but after the airdry clay is completely dry, when it gets wet, does it melt or get mushy? (when I don't seal it..)
Not a silly question 😊 If not sealed air dry clay would absorb any moisture. If you place in a bowl of water it would eventually go fully soft again, hope this helps
Lovely. Do you ever slow bake your air dry clay?
I don’t, no, I believe the slower they dry the better, to keep their shape
G'day from Melbourne, Australia, Sarah! I have been binge watching your videos lately, trying to get back into air dry clay... again! haha Anyway, quick question about the candle holder. Would the air dry clay be able to tolerate the heat when the candle burns really low/close to the candle holder? Would the heat from the candle affect the varnish in any way? Thank you in advance! 😊
Hi, amazing thank you, good to hear you are enjoying. Best to blow the candle out at that point, all varnishes are different so could effect yes
A little secret I learned doing stoneware clay is , when you it the Saran Wrap and cardboard tube inside the clay , pull out the cardboard first then the Saran Wrap.
good tip, there's me forgetting to even put it in 😊
So saran wrap? That's what you call cling film? 😊
@@RedRockingBird oops yes and thats only because it was the first brand that became popular in the states. I actually use a brand called cling wrap now it sticks to the bowl sides much better.
In the south people call all carbonated drinks Coke . Lol
@@sharonbower9362 Ah cool thanks, I find it so interesting all the different terms/words we use. If I were to say 'I've got my jumper' what do you think i mean??? haha
Very lovely tutorial. Where do you get your clay? My husband is from near Lancaster in the NW, so I can get my MIL to post me some over to Canada.
Is DAS clay or similar expensive in Canada?
I get DAS from the works: tinyurl.com/yxv5839x
and I also like hobbycraft white clay, which seems identical (edit: not the British clay)
Also from NW 😊
This was really fun to watch! I have heard some youtubers say that air dry clay is flammable, any precautions to be used for the candle holder?
Make sure you don’t let it burn low and you never leave a candle unattended, there is a lady that makes candle holders with air dry clay on here, terracotta people, take a look, but I wouldn’t want the flame to be near the clay or the lacquer
Thank you 😊
@@RedRockingBird oh okay thank you! Please make a comment on this and pin so more people know! Some people may not know this, don't want anybody to get hurt
@@iickie_bloop8813 ✨ when i made it I was thinking more decorative as I always burn larger candles not candlesticks, but yes good point, thank you, will do ✨
Will the pepper cause the clay to rot?
It hasn’t so far since the video was made. If you trap any bacteria in it could though
Is DAS clay safe for candle holders or incense? Or decorative only? I love these designs btw
I always say that the lit flame should be no where near the clay as they always say never to leave a naked flame unattended too.
I hope to make a video to address this as it is a very common question thank you
@@RedRockingBird thank you!

@@07leme happy crafting 🤍
I rly love ur video!! I’m trying to actually make a covered box using Das air dry and putting the candle inside. May I know if Air dry clay can burn since the heat of the flame is directly below the clay ceiling? And whether it’s toxic of not when burnt? Like will there be toxic fumes coming out?
No you can not let a flame near the clay, it’s paper based, the candle holder here is for decorative purposes and never leave a flame unattended
I wouldn’t recommend it without HUGE amounts of research but there are some air drying clays that are clay based rather than paper based. It’s possible this could be safer but I’m VERY unsure and would definitely recommend extensive research
hi there i have a question about the coaster, what happens if the glass sweats or the cup is hot? i have been wantitng to make some coasters but thought they might not work...
For coasters, you want to make sure they have a few good layers of top coat. A varnish or craft lacquer that is waterproof ruclips.net/video/91EVMXFMgUQ/видео.html. I suppose the heat could effect them over time, but would think it would take quite a lot to harm them.
Did she just season her clay???😂😂
😂😂 I did
❤️
😂😂
these are gorgeous! what clay do you use?
Mainly DAS air dry clay, link in description, but hobbycraft white clay is very similar and I like that too. ❤️ thank you
(edit: not the British one!)
New here. So this clay does not have to be kiln fired? I’m really interested in pottery but everything I encounter, turning, tossing, kiln, glazing, etc. HELP! ❤
Hi and welcome, yes air dry clay is a fab craft that is exactly that, air dry, so no kiln or oven needed. You can’t use it in the same way as pottery that is fired in a kiln though as air dry clay is not food safe. So many fun projects can be made with it though, many in my channel and many more to come, thank you 😊
@@RedRockingBird But you can make a decorative vase? I’m excited!
@@phughesphoto most definitely, and I do often, I have some new ones for more videos that are coming soon ❤️
@@RedRockingBird Sounds great! 👍🏼👍🏼
@@RedRockingBird May I ask a question? I don’t mind paying for private lessons if you can’t answer this! Can you moisten this type of clay to work with it ie that lovely vase I want to make? And I would love to put a pattern on it so I might need to rotate as well! But skipping the kiln - ❤️
how is your clay so soft out of the package? my clay (das) comes very hard.
ps. love your clay vids!
That seems strange, would expect it all to be the same, wet your hands and knead it a bit should help 😃
Where do you find your cutters? I'm not able to find any cookie cutters or such. Please
The larger one is part of a pipe, the others are plastic cookie cutters, but you can use things like fabric conditioner bottle lids, or simply cut around and object to get a shape ❤️
Ah - Choo!!!!
❤️❤️
Can we wash the coaster we make with air dry clay
you will need to seal with a top coat and then they can be wiped clean with a damp cloth then 😀
@@RedRockingBird okiess. How do I seal it .. If you can guide me that would be really helpful .
any of these: ruclips.net/video/z0dtdQFQ-wM/видео.html
@@RedRockingBird Thank you
How to keep them flat as I had previously done but they shrivel and bend as they dry
Turn to dry regularly if this is happening, dry slow with no excess heat and then a wood plank or similar can also be placed on towards the end of drying, thanks, hope this helps
@@RedRockingBird thank you.

Wouldn't the sweat from the glass cause the clay to reactivate the coaster?
I sprayed them with lacquer to keep the pepper in place and protect the clay, if you leave this step out then yes the clay will go soft and ruin your project
@@RedRockingBird thank you so much for answering. I didn’t know if it would protect it enough from the sweat. This is awesome. ♥️
Just make sure you give a few thin coats to make sure they are fully sealed, if not lacquer a varnish etc, I used polyurethane in my waterproof video ❤️
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
❤️
How long does it dry
Here in the uk 🇬🇧 3 days, plenty of people say less but climate makes a huge difference and depends on thickness, you can tell it’s dry when I is fully white
Are these items washable?
Once sprayed with a few coats of lacquer you could sponge clean them if needed, if you left them bare you would not want to get anything on them, any liquid would soak in, I did enough spray to set the pepper 😊
The pepper doesnt smell?
It smells good, but is fully dry
How do you stop your clay fom being sticky ?
keep it out in the air and knead it together a bit, soon becomes perfect to use
@@RedRockingBird Thank you so much 🙂
