I'm 60 years old and have used Retin A for many many years - my skin proves it, because most people think I'm 40 years old.... Girls start using Retin A as early as possible

@@jenk6895 , no you didn't can start at any age. You are still young, start it...

Did you have any issues with your eyes? I have dry eyes any my eye doc said I can't used any kind of Vit A (retin a, retinol) because it can cause/make dry eye worse by drying up the meibomium glands in the eyelids)

I've been using retinol products for about a decade & I have worn sunscreen everyday for a couple decades now. And sunglasses anytime I'm outside since I was 20. I'm 57 now & people guess me to be about 40. I don't have acne or cancer in the family, so just a retinol is OK for me. Plus a mild exfoliate about once a week. Start early with face care & don't smoke! I think sunscreen is probably the most important overall to use.
Question! Do you shower everyday since you wear sunscreen everyday? I gave eczema and have been told since I was 7 (currently 20) to only shower every other day because of my eczema. I desperately want to wear sunscreen atleast on my face everyday but I dont want to clog my pores or anything.
@@verom8657 Huh, shower every day....

You use physical sunscreen or chemical?
Hey, which suncream did you use and what age did you start using tretinoin?
I'm 1 months in using Retin A ( Tretinoin 1%) I noticed a difference in my skin within 1 week of using. Smoother skin, pores smaller. I was taught by my dermatologist how to use it. He prescribed the highest strength for me, the 1%. I use it every night. My nightly routine is only 3 steps. Washing with gental cleanser, Tretinoin, then moisturize. That's it. Nothing more.

I am 22 years old and have no interest on plastic surgery but I love your videos. Greeting from Senegal 🇸🇳
I know I am a little late to this conversation but I have been using Retin-A since I was about 30 years old and I am now 65. My skin looks very young for my age. My dermatologist instructed me to mix the Retin-A cream with a moisturizer. She actually demonstrated it. Therefore, I have had no reactions to it at all. When I first started using it, I noticed my skin was flaking off (the exfoliating phase) but it still wasn’t dry because I was using a moisturizer with it. It takes some experimentation to get your own dosing correct. I do not use it every day. And I have always used sunscreen. I was also told to use the Retin-A only at night before sleep. During the day I would always use sunscreen. Perhaps instructions weren’t very good and that’s why the doctor had such a terrible reaction. I have never put Retin-A on my skin without combining it with a moisturizer. This habit has made my skin look very nice. It has helped to fade my freckles and give my skin an even tone and texture. Now that I am in my mid-60s, people are shocked when they find out how old I am because my complexion looks so great and young. I also want to add that my original visit to a dermatologist was because I had skin cancer on my forehead. I had a lot of sun damage for someone my age. That is why my dermatologist put me on this cream. It has saved my face.
How many days in a week do you use Retin A?
How many days in a week do you use Retin A?
@@samadahmad4599 When I first started using it, I used it daily and then tapered off to every other day because it can be very drying. Now that I’m older, and my skin is even drier, I use it three times a week at bedtime. I use a dab of the Retin A the size of a large pea and mix it in my hand with a moisturizing cream such as Oil of Olay. More moisturizer than Retin A, like 3 to 1. Then apply to my face.

What strength retinal A did you start with ?

Hello Elise, I started with 0.5% because it was winter. In summer I gradually move up to 1%. Now since it's fall im back to 0.5%. I am very oily or I should say since I hit my sixties found my oil production to be more normal with an oily T zone and since starting Retin- A again after a year brake, find it makes my skin very active increasing my oil production. I don't really mind it since dry skin can make one look older. Hope this helps. ☺Also Elise when I was much younger I started out on the liquid Retin-A in a dark glass bottle, then to a gel then to Micro now I use cream only.
Denis Roberts..... Can u plz tell me the best age to start using these creams.
freedom 21 if you are a teenager i recommend using retinols.
Denise Roberts thanks. I’m 62 now and have used retin A .05 on and off since the late 90’s, mainly at first to help with scarring resulting from a motor vehicle accident and deep pigmentation from the 5 consecutive surgeries I had in 1990 ...anaesthetic is so bad for general health and skin clarity. I’ve just never gone to the next step, using a stronger retin A..... I believe that hydraquinone is good for reducing pigmentation as well.
Very well explained. I had so many questions. This answers them all. Thanks doc!

Great advise From Youn!I love it!
I've been using prescription retinase since I was a teem first for acne and now for texture issues with my skin. After I turned 25 I had to start paying for it but it's worth every penny. Sometimes I get off of it because I get lazy or forget to apply but I definitely notice a difference when I start using it again. If you decide to use this and go through the changes try to work through it because it's worth it after you get through the initial redness and irritation.
I am on my 2nd bottle of your retinol moisturizer and I really love it. I have dry skin and feel that the retinol hasn’t caused any increased dryness and I do see the benefits.

Karlene Hay but that dilutes it and isnt as effective 😳 well i heard it frm a lot of retin q users
Maryam Iftikhar ask your doctor
Wow that strong
@Imperfection Perfected1980 great advice i guess ill add it to my daily sunscreen
@@karinsandhu omg don't do this. first of all it is not recommended to mix your sunscreen with anything since it could mess with the uv-filters and potentially make them less effective. secondly, you have to apply tretinoin at because it is extremely photosensitive and will do almost certainly nothing for you when applied during the day!
if you have very sensitive skin you could either mix it with your moisturizer at night or put on moisturizer first, let it dry completely and then put on the tret. wait another 30 min or so and apply another layer of moisturizer. buffering like this, skipping days or using the lowest strength will not make it less effective as studies have shown. it's just going to take a little longer to see (the same) results.
Always interesting content!👌🏻🙂 assuming that vit a has some potential effect on adipose tissue metabolism (oral vit a derivatives, isotretinoin) according to some studies, do you think that topical tretinoin could possibly have the same potential, affecting facial fat pads? I know it will be theoretically difficult for a topical to penetrate so deep but still.. can this be a risk? There are some users claims suggesting this
Thank you!🙏🏻
Retin A is really bomb. I was prescribed in my late teens because of severe acne. I am thirty four now and still using it. My skin looks and feels great.
how often do you use it? everyday?
Your skin is glowing!!!
Ive been using the ROC retinol for 4 years. It works wonders. They have it at Wal-Mart its the best brand for retinol I think.
Is it safe for sensitive skin and rosacea ?
@@janetp3389 probably not a lot of their products contain fragrance which is not good for anyone's skin but particularly rosacea prone/sensitive skin. Also retinol is quite far down the ingredients list which means it's not a high amount and won't really be very effective.
The smell are way to strong...like perfume on your face. Not good if you have acne, rosacea or sensitive skin.
Alice Mc Retinoids do not need to be in high amounts to be effective. Like 0.5. If it’s too high it can be irritating, plus the skin won’t absorb all of it.
true, ive used the roc one before as well and it smoothed my skin out.

Thank you doctor to explain that retinal. That is very helpful tips.
I remember Retin A during my teenage years. It left my skin so dry. After watching your Nighttime Routine video, I have been using Retinol.
I have occasional eczema flare ups so I didn't know whether to go for tret right away or retinol first. I'll start with the latter. 😊
Use retinol first. Introduce the product to your skin slowly so that it won't react badly. Then if your skin is already used to it, you can now switch to Retin A 0.025%, once a week. After 2months, use it 2-3 times a week.
I just started using Adapalene a couple of weeks ago, mainly for hyperpigmentation. We.’lol see how it goes. If I don’t see much change in my skin, I may try a retinol. Retin A is too strong for my skin.
Great advice. Thank you!
I am currently on Tretinoin cream, 0.025%. It has helped with my acne drastically, however, my skin has gotten dull and oily. But the breakout and painful pimples are 85% gone.
Thank you, Dr. Youn! So appreciate you and your videos. Could you please address application for tretinoin? I've been mixing it with my hyaluronic serum or Vit e oil to prevent dryness and flaking but I worry this may make the retin a less effective. Also, I apply it on damp skin to maximize the benefits of the hyaluronic acid. Many thanks!
Tretinoin should not be used on damp skin
After using Retin-A for long time, my pores got bigger(maybe paradoxical effect on my skin)and my skin looked over processed and not healthy! I ve got sensitive skin and initial results were great though!
I love how you are filming with your phone
I love your videos. Can you make a video where you talk about how you became a plastic surgeon or courses you took to become one.
Thanks for this great video. I’ve been talking to a friend who swears she can’t use RetinA But was going to put fresh squeezed lemon juice on her face. I’ve used RetinA for many years now and it’s improved the overall look and feel if my skin so much. But it takes time. I always say skincare is the long game. It’s like saving for retirement...but you’ll be glad you did!
I'm so scared with the peeling part. 😭 Did you also peel too and for how long?
@@soonsuicidal I first used a retinol from the drugstore, LaRoche Posay Redermic C I used that for about 9 months to get my skin used it Retinols. Didn’t ever peel with that. Then I started with RetinA .5% and did gave some peeling. I started a sustained regular exfoliating schedule that helped tremendously. I did move up to .1% and I toggle between the .5 and .1% which REALLY makes me peel. The trick is to back down if you’re peeling too much for you comfort (although it’s what’s supposed to happen). You may be person who can only use it 3-4 times a week versus daily like me. Find the best most balanced usage rate of RetinA for YOU and I promise you’ll reap the benefits in time. Don’t be scared of peeling, it’s supposed to happen to reveal the newer softer skin underneath. Be sure to use a moisturizer that works for your changing skin and please use sunscreen daily. Your skin will love you for it and you’ll begin to love the look of your skin. Good luck on your skincare journey! 🤗🤗
@@glendagarcia6194 wow thank you soo much for replying. Just one last thing, when it peels can/do you still wear make- up? I dont know if I can bear to go to work without one. If its just casual with friends or just me outside I dont mind without one but we're almost required at work to weark make-up so thats what made me hesitant to try retinol coz of peeling issues. 😅
@@soonsuicidal I’m a makeup fiend. RetinA isn’t going to have you peeling like a chemical peel will with strands of skin peeling. You will peel but you can adjust how often you use use RetinA or a retinol on your skin. It’s safe to use every night 7 nights per week. But you can adjust to a twice a week regimen and work from there. I always wear makeup and did at the time I started. Sometimes foundation looked great, sometimes it was clear I needed to exfoliate. You’ve got to make exfoliating a part of your skincare routine whether you decide to use RetinA or not. It can be a bit of a hump for some folks buts a MANAGEABLE hump. It truly is. If you’re getting too much peeling to wear makeup well, cut back the number of days you’re using it. RetinA is a totally manageable product that’ll help you with fine lines and wrinkles as well as minor texture of the skin. Try a drugstore retinol first since retinol isn’t as strong as RetinA to get your skin acclimated to it. Olay, The Ordinary, Roc, L’Oréal all make excellent retinol products that’ll get you on the road to improved skin. Also it can dry your skin out a bit so remember to keep your skin hydrated at all times.
But I never stopped wearing makeup when I started on RetinA and don’t know that I would’ve kept with it if I couldn’t wear makeup. I definitely understand your concern. But it’ll be okay I promise. If it burns, stings causes breakouts stop immediately. That’s not normal but peeling is perfectly normal and manageable.
@@glendagarcia6194 i'll take note on all of those info. 📝 thank you sooo much Miss Glenda. I really appreciate your help and sorry for taking your time as you really explained it very well. 🙏 I'll look into those products asap. Have a nice day.
