You are a fabulous instructor - Direct, well spoken, no verbal distractions, and precise lessons without wandering around. Many thanks from a former instructor myself.
That's good to know, but do you know where I can get even more help - or specific help to beginner problems I'm having and can't figure out? tia to anyone who can answer
Good morning. I found your vids yesterday and have watched the first several. I am totally new to graphics drawing and am attempting to learn how to use this program to create leather patterns for my leather working business. Maybe I'm just slow and old, (63), but I'm overwhelmed. All I think I need is to understand how to draw basic black and white images. I will continue to watch your videos in the hopes that my slow gray matter will pick up the necessary information. Thanks for making these.
Inkscape and GIMP have always been frustrating for me because I use them infrequently. So, every time I return to use them I have forgotten some small frustrating detail. Your numbered tutorials broken down into small segments that are focused on a small set of details and labeled by content allow me to quickly find that elusive detail and get back on track. Thank you so much.
These r the BEST TUTORIALS!!!!!! THANK U A MILLION TIMES!!!!!! I bought a binder from a craft lady and it doesnt explain half this stuff! Wish i could get my money back and fwd to u bc these r great!!!!!!!!! Excited to learn more on your channel! Will be recommending this channel to everyone i know! U should really monetize so we have commercials to watch to support this channel
Thanks for the kind words! I do monetise on this channel, and am also working on a Patreon page, but mostly just want to see more people using and sharing free software!
Wow, this is such a versatile program! With each lesson it just gets more interesting. This feeds my crazy imagination in ways you wouldn't believe! Thanks, again!
This was what I was trying to figure out about how to use this program the whole time. Watched all these tutorials up to this point, just to learn how to work with paths! Thank you for making these videos!! 😀
I really appreciate these videos. Just discovered Inkscape which I want to use for the type in my t-shirt designs. Your explanations are clear and you're so easy to listen to. Excellent, thanks.
Thanks for the tutorial. I am trying to start a business and have spent a lot of time researching and think whether I should spend the money on Adobe. I am now committed to Inkscape as the primary vector software. I really appreciated your time and effort!
@@maglan8 unfortunately I didn't ahead with it. I found old adobe I bought looooooong time ago and now I am just good with using that. There is always a learning curve for any application you use. The questions is how well you utilize it and how good your ideas are and how well you execute it. Don't focus you earning when you are beginning, just enjoy learning and exploring. Your will find your style and what works.
Omg your so fkn awesome I just started a printing business from home with no idea how to work ink scape and I've learnt so much in you lessons thank you
I subscribed after watching your first tutorial and I have quite a lot. I didn't know you could change an object until I learned about the Object To Path mode. I am hoping to learn Inkscape to make drawings and decals. Thanks for sharing this tutorial.
i must say that your channel is in the list of my favorite channels in RUclips 😊💚you are helping me to fill up my vacation with something beneficial, wish you all the best sir 👍
Hey, they changed it so this doesn't work in 1.2. Those clicks create a path with no line on it. You'll be the first to show how a line can be drawn if you update this for the current program. Everyone's tutorials have this, which doesn't work anymore.
I haven't noticed any snapping or alignment automation for stuff in the document. In Illustrator, it is common to see dotted lines and snapping to help align things. Does that option exist in Inkscape?
sometimes i forget am not a noob and start on hating educational videos for treating the learner as dumb rock person, but then i remember there are noobs who indeed have no clue or background knowledge and needs this extremely, and find it helpful... i skim over everything, leave such comment and a like and leave :)
Great video, thanks. I'm looking specifically how to take a shape (object) and remove part of the path. I guess this will be done by adding some nodes (don't know how to do that) and deleting the path between them.
Yes thank you, its so intimidating but you break it down in bitesize chunks, It's like giving a chimp the space shuttle when I first downloaded it lol. But thanks to you I have a bit of control at the deck
quite funny when you think about it. The progress of our whole civilization stands on math, it is hard to find anything that would not need math for one thing or another, everyone learns it in school and yet most people think it is just useless intellectual exercise.
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial videos! I've a question. We can make Text Object to Path. But then, how can we apply an effect of "Round Cap" to any Sans Serif Font which has straight corners like "Arial"?
Thanks Bill, good question. After the text is converted to a path, it will have a Fill but no Stroke. Go to the Fill & Stoke settings, click on 'Stroke', and enable it. This will make the outline around the text letters a little thicker, but will still have hard edges. Then click on 'Stroke Style' and change the Join setting to make the edges round. Hope that helps!
I'm only on lesson 7 so maybe this will be addressed in a later video. I'm wondering if you could do a lesson on setting up an svg for a CNC router and/or a vinyl cutter. I own both which is why I'm here but in the meantime my mind is blown over how easy creating web banners, graphics etc is after years of thinking it well beyond my ability.
Thanks for all these tutorials, i learn a lot. Question: I am looking how to make a 1mm format of lines (like 1mm drawing paper with all the 1mm lines) I need to make a figure of little 1mm dots to create a small bear silhouette. How do I get a field of 1mm lines to work on?
This should be lesson 1. First thing I tried in Inkscape was draw a line and I did not get what I want (brain full of Autocad 1998). The difference between Path and Object is very helpfull.
I still have got problems using the difference tool on a drawing that I made with the bezeier tool. How can I make an object of a drawing that I made with the bezier tool? Somethimes it works and sometime it doesn't Sometimes I made a drawing with the bezier and try to use the difference tool, but nothing happens. Wjat can I do?
Thank you soooo much for these tutorials!!! I am trying to find how to round one side of a rectangle and keeping 3 sides straight. I am sure I will find it. Anyone else see the start picking pacmans nose at the end.....?
How do you change the colour and thickness of lines? How do lock one corner of a line so you can pivot, so not just horizontal or vertical? I was thinking on the lines (no pun intended) of making a very narry square, and then pivoting one corner of it.
How do you change the default thickness of the Bezier tool? When I draw the thickness of the line is so tiny that I can't see it and I thought I was doing something wrong. But when I found how to change the thickness then it came into view. Is there any way to change the default thickness? Thank you.
Mac users stuck like me. I couldn’t just draw a line and press Enter to finish the line (it kept wanting to draw more). Two options I found. Do your two nodes for your line and either 1. Go click on the curser arrow button that we use all the time for selecting things, 2. Fn and F2 (function and F2) at the same time (which is really doing step 1 but the ‘shortcut version’. I am surprised there aren’t more Mac users in the comments. I search through them every video looking for somebody to have already given the secret MAC tip since all these windows commands don’t work. I really thought there were more MAC users in this world.
Are there any secrets settings in Inkscape or ways to make new tools and fine tun it? I think it is a good program for those who use photoshop or any editing tool just wonder if there's a bigger version with a few more tools and customizations and will there be a version for Android tablets in the future?
I think developers have been able to get Inkscape to work on Android, but its been designed for desktops specifically. There are lots of extra addons/extensions for Inkscape, some can be found here: inkscape.org/gallery/=extension/
You are a fabulous instructor - Direct, well spoken, no verbal distractions, and precise lessons without wandering around. Many thanks from a former instructor myself.
Yes, totally I agree and he is a great teacher.
Thanks so much for these tutorials dude, definitely the best tutorial series for Inkscape I've found yet.
That's good to know, but do you know where I can get even more help - or specific help to beginner problems I'm having and can't figure out? tia to anyone who can answer
Me too
THIS is where the stuff gets interesting!

I cannot thank you enough for putting these videos together. Very helpful for beginners (like me).
It was suggested that I go to Inkscape for my laser projects. I was not impressed initially until your tutorials I am sold. Thanks

@@TJFREE Thanks. :)
PLEASE don't ever take this series down, it will be my forever reference. If you do take it down, zip it and sell it.
Don't worry, I want to share this info for free forever. I am currently working on a zip download solution as well, it will also be free :)
@@TJFREE Hopefully you're making money on it via RUclips. Don't do a zip as long as the views keep piling up. :)
@@Book-Gnome Yes, I do make enough from RUclips ads. Its bitter/sweet. I can stand ads, but it does make the channel possible.
ah-mazing! Can't believe all of this is free! Learning so much in a logical way. Thanks so much!

I was lost, but now I'm found. Thanks for not only the information, but the way you present it. Newbie here, XXL Shapeoko
You're welcome!
I think this video is the definition of the inkscape this is why inkscape is different than other paint or e.t.c things the text one is impressive
Love the text object-to-path - perfect for both corny logos and original logotypes.
That was a lot to digest, but soooo important. Thank you for the excellent tutorial!
