I thought I was already very familiar with Inkscape (thanks in large parts to many of your videos), but a video like this is something I wish I had seen years ago. Thanks!
You make my inkscape so much easier to deal with the fact that if I cant remember what does what because of one million things going on in my head I look up your vids. Thank you so much for all of your time I am beyond appreciative.
I found your channel when looking for GIMP advice. Some of the tools on Inkscape and Photoshop resemble those used by GIMP. I'm not a pro but as an ex Graphic Designer in the 70s - mid-80s when computers were just beginning to assist us, I keep wanting to flex my muscles so to speak😅! I like your teaching style.
You're a very good teacher and I learned a lot. Thanks. Subscribed and book marked. Also, please make a video about how to set the colors to fill, font colors etc. It's confusing. I just started learning few days back and tons of options are these to explore. It's really fun.
Excellent video! In GIMP I created .png of my signature with a clear background for superimposing into documents. I'm going to repeat that in Inkscape to achieve a better result.
Your recent tutorials are such a great addition to your Master Course! Thank you! If you ever need any suggestions, I would love some simple (or advanced) Halloween and/or Christmas objects, shapes etc., how they're made in Inkscape. Those seasons are coming and those themes are very popular. Thx again!
I’m I the only one who have this problem when I draw something it supposed to look like this ⭕️ right? You can choose to fill it with a color or not,the problem is when I draw something it looks like this 🔴 already filled with a color do you know how do I solve this problem ?
@@10n02com as the person above said: the outside rim is your Stroke, and the inside color is the fill. Sounds like you have fill set to a color and stroke set to none by default.
Great video. Thank you. Basic skills explained so well anticipating the difficulties of beginners. One question I have is when I replicate the same line in Inkscape 1.2, it shows too many nodes which makes it clumsy to handle. When you draw you get only a few nodes. Is there any config setting to achieve that?
That was helpful. I was hoping to learn what the other menu buttons do after the line has been drawn. Like, the add intersection or smooth button. Edit: Oh! You have a tutorial for this as well. Perfect! Thank you
What a helpful video--thank you so much. I do have one quick question: when I'm using the Bezier tool to trace over a pencil sketch, and I want to adjust my line by grabbing onto the nodes, it seems only some nodes act as handles, so some I can't grab onto. Am I doing something wrong? Thank you again!
this is an old video but why is it when i follow what you do the 'line' isnt visible and when i continue to follow the instructions at 0:50 it fills up the space and becomes a triangle.. help
Thanks for the great content. Is there a solution for CMYK mode? I'm new to inkscape I'm I'm using it to design book covers, in general the designs I make using inkscape will ne printed like tshirts, card posters, mugs, wall arts and CMYK is required.
@@jakemorden8544 There are workarounds like saving as PDF and then opening it with Scribus and converting to CMYK. You can also export as a rasterized file and then convert the rasterized file using Krita. I have a couple of videos showing how to do this if you want to search my channel for "cmyk", they may be a bit dated but should be relevant still.
so something with the draw curved lines it really changes a lot with "smoothing" section set to 60 vs set to 8 sometimes professionals forget all the many tweaked settings that they set up.
has something changed drastically in the 2 months this video was made?, I just downloaded the program 10 minutes ago and it's become impossible to draw a straight line, it's just invisible until I had a third point, in that case it just connects the three corners (from the two lines) together to make a 2D shape. what the heck am I missing here? I've changed no settings, everything is default from installation.
I figured it out. When the pencil is selected, in the top right, there will be two bits of text: Fill: (none) and Stroke: (none). Click "Stroke" and it will open settings. Within the pencil settings, change the "Style of new objects" from "Last used style" to "This tool's own style". Close out and it should work. Really strange that this isnt the default.
@@gazoinksboo Just to add on: This might mess up changing colours in the future, and you might have to set it back to last used. You'll figure it out once you try to draw something twice and it doesn't use the same style
Hi i dont know what happened to my inkscape whenever i draw something with pen tool automatically fill with colour like in this video when you drew with pen tool it is only the lines in screen but in my case the colour automatically fills and it concertos into shape
Nick, I saw in a video of adobe's soft that the person recommended to whenever you can when doing curved lines place the nodes in a form that the handles of it are or vertical or horizontal that makes it more natural. What do you thing in that regarding?
I learned quite a lot from this video thanks Nick. I still struggle with the Bezier pen drawing curves in standard mode, or changing to/from corner nodes/smooth nodes (ctrl L, ctrl U?). Will try spline method. Can a spline curve be converted to a conventional node/gradient curve? Object to path?
How does one cut the end bits of a straight line?? I have a rectangle and then a line with 5 px width bisecting it at an angle so that it goes corder to corner. However, the ends of the line are scare and hang over the outside of the original rectangle so that it looks like there's two triangles on either edge of the main rectangle on the corners. I want those removed so that it is only the 5 px thick line over the main rectangle and no bleeding edges... Hope that was a clear question but figuring this out is driving me insane...
everytime I draw a line an object appers but there is no actual line. a colour is selected, but no line appears. only when I add a contour I can actually see a line
Nice video BUT I tried drawing lines and as soon as a finish a line the line disappears and a rectangle of dashed lines appears. What am I doing wrong?
I'm very frustrated. 53 Seconds in the video, I've selected the pencil too, the Bezier path tool, and drawn a line, but I can't see it. I've tried to find out how to draw it in a different color, or maybe it's because the stroke and the fill aren't defined, but I can't figure out how to do that. Which one of your videos could help me to set things up so I can follow this one?
Ok. Now I did it but have no clue how. I'm a beginner with Inkscape, but I know Adobe Photoshop Elements very well, and I'm passable with AutoCAD. So I'm not totally ignorant...
For some reason, every time I try and draw it automatically connects back to the starting point, making it a shape instead of a line. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I found this lesson useful in everyway expect one - how the heck do you specify the length of the line?? I am trying to draw the border of a trapezium and it needs to have certain dimensions - for the love of God, I cannot seem to do that super duper basic thing in Inkscape?? Frustrated.

Yes, so can spiro paths. Just select it once you're done and go to Path > Object To Path
Silly question though
when to use the pencil and when to use bezier 😅
Pencil is good for freehand drawing. The Bezier Pen is better for tracing and creating precise line placements.
