For grouping, it's not the "ESC" that re-groups them, you have to double-click outside to get out of single-entity-edit mode and go back to them as being a group.
Thank you so much for these tutorials! They are awesome. For those of us with Macs, instead of Ctrl , use Command. (Command+C instead of Ctrl+C to copy, for example) Instead of alt key, use option key (for example, to select an item that is beneath another item)
Thank you! I was already in a bit of shock to see that Alt + drag wouldn't work, and that "Ctrl + D" was supposed to be used instead, and then I thought I was losing my mind when that wouldn't work either.
I downloaded Inkscape today. Still getting a feel for it. These tutorials are so helpful. Thanks. My mind is in overdrive (lol) with all the things I want to try.
Thanks for the tutorial! I'm wanting to design my own wallpaper at some point, so that's my motivation to continue watching these tutorials. These are really great, sometimes a bit slow, but they are thorough and extremely helpful!
Thanks for these tutorials! I'm using 0.92.2 on a MacBook and clicking Esc doesn't exit group editing to get the group selection back. However, Ctrl+Backspace(Delete on Mac) or clicking an object outside the group does. It might be because Inkscape is running inside of XQuartz but I'm not sure. While researching this I also learned that Ctrl+Enter is an alternate to double clicking to enter the group.
Thank you so much for this...!!! I have been trying to create patterns to no avail, almost gave up, only to find this video and realise that I was pressing the wrong tab...yep, still learning!!!
Nice software, really loved it to learn. Suggestion: Kindly show KEY-BOARD KEY also on the screen on suitable place so that we can relate it, see it and easily remember the COMMAND.
Awesome tutorials. Question that I hope you see. At 6:58 you say hit escape to return to the group. This doesn't work on mine. I am using a Mac. Is there a key I'm missing or is it an update issue?
I love these tutorials. Just wondering. You've mentioned that Inkscape remembers the properties of the object you last drew which is really useful in most cases. But, is there a way to switch to a default rendering, rather than having to undo all the characteristics you previously used? E.g color, opacity, stroke width and so on?
Hi Russ. Good question. On the top menu bar Edit > Preferences > Tools > Shapes > click on the object (ie Rectangle, Star, etc...) and there will be an option for 'Style of New Object'. By default, it is set to 'Last used style' but can be changed here. Hope that helps!
@@TJFREE it doesn't work for me, i go to ' Edit > Preferences > Tools > Shapes > ' i choose the object and change the settings and the object when i make it stays the same
@@TheFefiiiii, your theme might be messing up the UI selections. When I use Win32 theme, some of the menu selections don't seem to apply. To fix, select a different theme or use the system theme for best outcome.
Excellent tutorial! I like the grouping for sure. Is there any way to apply an animation to all objects in a given named group (i.e. border color) - thank you!
A couple questions... 1) when you are scaling the object bigger and smaller is it changing the dimensions that it is, or just the viewable size? 2)when you are scaling things up and down in size is there s setting available that keeps the stroke width the same instead of having it scale with the object?
Great lessons for learning Inkscape. I remember in one of the lesson you manipulated a star in such a way it looked like points on a dial. Which lesson was that?
I like Ctrl + C - Ctrl + V better than Ctrl + D because copy and paste is a skill that works across other programs and there is only so much storage capacity upstairs.
I love your tutorials and am working on my computer as I watch them to see if I can do what you are teaching. In lesson 4, where you grouped the snowman and then show how to tab to see the shapes drawn and their order, my Inkscape is not showing all the shapes on my screen. I have a square and oval and it will tab thru them but it dies not include the snowman. This is the same as when I hid the oval under the snowman and tabbed to the oval with alt, I was not able to bring the oval to the top of the grouped snowman. There is something going on with the grouped snowman that is preventing these other functions working. Can you help explain what it might be?
Your tutorials are awsome dude. Like for rel you know this programm, you explain evetrything and give advices to your other videos. But if I'm allowed to give a you a little advice: It would be kinda more Helpfull if you install a tool to shouw your KEyboard on the Screen, thats highlighting the actual Key you hit right there. It could be a more effective way to explain things and moves or commands if you blend it up in the bottom mid of your screen for example. Not sure if you tried sth. like this already, but it could be a nice thing if you get used to it fo some future Videos.
Thanks Alex, and thanks for the suggestion. I started using a program that displayed my keyboard presses, and it worked good. It was after I'd already made this Inkscape series, but there is a lot I'd like to redo with this series anyway, so sometime in the future I hope to remake it even better, and with keystroke and mouse clicks shown.
sometimes I can enter a group by using the control key but sometimes I have to ungroup everything make my change then group it again. I dont understand the inconsistency since every time I group stuff and select stuff I am doing it exactly the same. This is a very powerful program but also extremely frustrating to use and at times inconsistent in its operation.
So ive been watching your videos and theyre very helpful, however I noticed your toolbars show a lot more options than mine & im trying to figure out how to have mine show more. For instance if I want to change the level of an object I have to go into the object menu and change it from there. I don't have the icon handy on one of my toolbars. Is there a way to change this? I've been trying but I can't figure it out
That's very kind, thank you! I'm a crytpo-currency fan, but I really don't need the money. I'd rather see it go to the Inkscape team or another open source project!

Hello. Thank you so much for your videos. I tried to copy and paste a curved line but it didn't work. So, when I curve a line and then copy and paste it, it paste it as a straight line (even I save the file, it saves as straight line). I couldn't work out the way around this or see it on help page, is there anyway to solve this problem? Thank you so much and appreciate in advance.🙏
