I am 76 yrs old and a newbie to gr design. I find your videos incredibly helpful! I've followed other tutorials, both written and on utube. Your directions are easy to follow, and I keep coming back to them when I'm stuck on something in another tutorial! Thank you!
Good on you Ann. I'm in my 60's only but like you I enjoy learning new things and I am really enjoying learning Inkscape through these excellent videos - keep it up !
I know it's been years since you made this- but I just recently found Inkscape, and while there's a slight difference in the newer version, these tutorials are a saving grace for helping me know the program and applying it to my client work; thank you so much!
I can't believe these videos don't have more views. This is awesome man, thanks for taking the time to explain all of this. I am not a designer, just looking to make a few SVG's for a project I have going on, we need an svg background on a website.
I can't say how thankful I am to you for this series of videos - it's just so thorough and helpful for someone who's just starting on graphic design like me.
Damn, you are such a amazing tutor for me. I don't have enough money to get course. But RUclips and your channel is my light. After watching 8 videos, I've got a lot .Thank you Sir.
Appreciate your tutorials. They are quick and easy to follow. Thank you for showing us how to use those tools. In the end that free hand tool with smoothness on could prove to be useful.
Okay I'm happy now. I was biting my tongue through the other videos, I've used CorelDraw and knew there were ways to reduce nodes, and you did really good at showing those ways though the names of the tools and functions are different. Yay, I'm liking Inkscape more and more with every one of your tutorials. Thank you so much!!!
its the year 2021, and i decided to start making business using different illustration. Its your page that is helping me out. You have made "learning" very fun and easy. I appreciate your hardwork
Wow. I can't thank you enough for making these videos! I've been watching them since yesterday. I've been looking for a drawing program to help with some designs I have in my head, and I've been searching through different programs all week (and going crazy) until I came across InkScape and your tutorials. As soon as I saw you in the first video I knew I had found the program I wanted!! I've been glued to my monitor ever since learning as much as I can so I can make my business better. Bless you and thank you for all the time you put into doing this and getting it out there and helping so many people! May only good things come your way! :) Much love! Gotta get back to my lessons now, lol, just needed to say that! PeeCe xoxo
thank you so much! these videos are super helpful in teaching me how to use INKSCAPE. i am a student in school but sadly, they dont teach us how to use this website. i used to be in a after school program for graphics and animation but i forgot how to use inkscape and these tutorials really help me! thank you!
I also am a newbie with a cricut and wanting to make my own stuff you do a great job explaining stuff I follow along and if I get stuck I play with it till I figure it out. I love to learn so thank you now if I could learn excel ahhhh
I just shared the link to your video's in a facebook group I'm in. I stumbled across your video's looking for another video I'd seen a week ago. The other one was click her then here than here. It didn't explain clearly what I was doing, just how to get the end result. I'm not leaving this couch until I've seen all you video's on Inkscape. Then I'm going to see what other programs you've posted how to's for. You are very good at explaining things in a way that people understand and remember. Thank you.
Great video. I kept getting colour on both sides of my line and my line was white. I think you could have expanded on that, but I figured it out that I had to go into the stroke paint and stroke style.
I must share something about the freehand tool. I use this tool to draw/ink. I make a solid ellipse with the "circle tool", copy it, then go to "freehand tool" and select "bend from clipboard" from the "shape" drop down. After that I can draw/ink with that tool over rough sketches or just draw with it. The logo I use for my avatar was done with this technique.
The shape that you make can be any shape you want it can be square, rectangle, ellipse, or a shape of a brush stroke, such strokes can be searched and some are on deviant art. Another important point is that you can change the size of the clipboard shape by px or mm. I have set up a few templates of various sized ellipse strokes.
If it doesn't work out for you, try Affinity Designer (there's a free trial). I have hand tremors and have really appreciated vector for giving me more control over my lines.
hi, please help, my inskscape is drawing objects instead of lines. as i select the freehand tool and try to draw a line it converts it into a an object, instead of giving me a line path
this is probably a little late, but I just figured it out. change it to where there is no fill color, and you stroke color change it to whatever color you would like to draw in
I found the article but it had to do with Windows computers only. I have the latest Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6 Thanks for the suggestion anyway. Steve M.
Great videos and instructions. I must be doing something wrong with the free draw pencil tool; I can draw a wiggly line but when I double click to finish the line disappears- is there a setting I may have wrong?
Thanks, these videos have helped me out a lot. I was wondering if I import a DXF file can I simplify the nodes? I have some drawings that have a crazy amount of nodes and I would like to simplify them.
Dear TJ Free, I think inkscape is incredibly well explained by you. I am therefore consistently following the lessons. But if I can make a comment I sometimes lose your cursor. Is it possible to enlarge your cursor slightly so that I don't lose it anymore. but again a thumbs up from me for your good explanation.
Drawing slow vs. fast: When you move your mouse fast, Inkscape literally receives less reports on mouse coordinates. (The number of coordinates-per-second is constant) This is the reason why drawing fast appears smoother. It has less jaggedy data form the get-go
I've been watching your tutorials, and I'm finding them very helpful as I learn this new program. I actually dislike the fact Inkscape remembers what was last done. I'm now looking for a video to show how to default to the initial settings because after playing with it, none of my shapes are normal. It's difficult to get them close to normal, and a few things are impossible -- it seems to me since I'm new to the program. I'll keep watching. Thankfully, for what I want this for -- making book covers -- I won't need shapes. Thanks for the videos.
Hello! I read your comment and had the same frustrations. Guess what?? I found how to reset the preferences so it won't do that anymore!! :) Find the 'Star' on your menu bar (or the square or the circle or any tool) and **double click** it. This will open up a Preferences box (or you can press Shift+Ctrl+P). With the 'Preferences' box open you will see in the main box two options: 'Last Used Style' or 'This Tools Own Style.' ***Select: This Tools Own Style*** and Voila! Anytime you go back to that object to use it again, it will be defaulted back to its original parameters regardless of what you did with it last time :) If you want to go back to the program remembering what styles you used last, select the first option. (If for some reason you are not seeing these menu options, check the left side of the menu box and make sure you are under 'Tools' and beneath that select 'Tweak'). Hope this helps you and others!!
Thank you for all the tutorials. I finished 7 of them so far 👍 what’s the best way to draw different shapes like heart shape but symmetrical and neat. I managed to do it by drawing circle then editing it by object to path but the heart shape doesn’t look cool
Great question. Select both lines and go to Path > Union. Depending on what you are doing, sometimes just grouping the two can work, select both and go to Object > Group. Hope that helps!
I’m just on 8 and I feel like all my questions have been answered for this fluffin program I’ve been opening and immediately closing because idk wtf I’m doing.
Is it possible to draw a line and have different sections of it different colours? A parabola, say, divided into three sections, each with a different colour.
Hi, I have a label I want to design, should I set up a document to the dimensions of my label or just choose, say A4 and draw an outline and stay within it ? what would be the best way when your project has a defined size and shape that you have to stay within for your work please ?
I am trying to use bitmap trace on a simple raster shape. I want the trace to be a single hairline path, but it creates a 2d path with fill. How can I tell it to just give me a single thin line
can you tell which video shows me how to taper my free hand drawn line and how to save my created art with no background?? I know I saw u do it, cant remember which video it was. THANKS! U ROCK!
Is it possible to change the shape of a freehand drawn line with, for example, a dotted line? I tried selecting a freehand line, but somehow the 'lineshape' function doesn't work.

The stroke is set as solid so not sure what happened. 10 minutes ago it was working properly and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fix it.
