To all fellow fans, we lost a very talented singer Lesley Gore today Monday, February 16,2015. She was a part of the wonderful 60's music culture. What a great time it was being a teenager. Thanks for posting these music videos. I deeply appreciate what all of you have done for her. For now, I will have my mourning-party to honor her and her music by playing the various music videos of Lesley Gore. Thanks, Lesley!
Lesley Gore can be considered "The Voice of the '60s" except there was so many great women singers then,Dionne Warwick,Connie Francis,Aretha Franklin,Brenda Lee,Petula Clark, and one who doesn't get enough recognition,Joanie Sommers,we heard her at least as much as the others, she sang both major Pepsi jingles. And that's not even considering the groups and their great leads. What a wonderful decade to be young.
There were even more greats that can be added to your list, but it would be too lengthy here. The one thing about Leslie Gore, is that according to Quincy Jones, she was the only singer who could nail an exact take twice, and wth super power each time.
Lesley was a teen, the other ones were much older, she sang like an older girl, was a Beauty, and all the girls want to be just like her. That is why she is the authentic American sweetheart, that’s the difference between the rest.
In the year 1965, there was: the assassination of Malcolm X, the Vietnam war, the year white supremacists beat a minister to death, bloody Sunday, the funeral for Viola Liuzzo was held thanks to white supremacists, the necessity of the Watts riots, yeah what a nice world.
Oh! These innocent and kind and caring times of our world that won't ever be seen again. And Lesley Gore gave us so many great songs with her lovely voice and personality.
Thanks for posting this, it was all great but my favorite part was at 3:29 when he sang "Mrs. Gore you got a lovely daughter" and Leslie realized what he said instead of "Mrs. Brown you got a lovely daughter" and she chuckles from surprise.
Also, did anyone catch her expression when they start to sing "Everybody loves a Clown"? It sounds like she started in the wrong key and corrected herself and did a 'Uhhggg' eye roll.
I thought that was beautiful What he did for Lesley. The song about the clown was given another complement about being beautiful. Very much loved Lesley. You will always be loved and missed.
My thoughts are with Lesley Gore since Monday. Such a great personality; talent; and pioneer for rights. Our time seems to go so fast. We lost you way too soon. RIP.
Cute song by LESLEY, not one of her Giant hits, but a good song still. This is a rare chance to hear her sing it live so thank you so much for sharing what must be a fairly rare clip. I'm not sure how high this tune climbed on the Pop Charts, but as always it was a fine effort from the one and only LESLEY GORE.
Leslie Gore, like the girls groups of the sixties, represented the feelings of teenage girls then. That and a slew of hits should have been enough for her to get into the HOF.
This is a classic, and underrated performance from the Leslie and the those dancers, especially the short male. He’s the best dancer along with Donna. The rest is trash not my favorite.
This is a classic, and underrated performance from Leslie and those dancers, especially the short male. He’s the best dancer along with Donna. Is the other male dancer really Michael Bennett? No guessing!
The song was based on a motif similar to "Downtown" and came off hot out of the box on the market and then never got as high as everyone expected. Great record but Mercury seemed unable to get the horses going at the time.
One of the reasons why the song only reached #32 on the national charts is because the record was blacklisted in the San Francisco market because the song's lyrics refer to "Frisco" instead of San Francisco. It was said that people in San Francisco hate being referred to as "Frisco." Losing a major market like San Francisco can cause a huge dip in the charts.
I was 22 in 1965 and I didn't know much about lesbians, for that matter. It was that rare to have anyone openly admit it then. Out of curiosity, how do you know what she knew and did not know in 1965?
Imagine if, in 1965, she had come out and admitted she was a lesbian... For all the supposed liberated thinking, flower children, drugs, anti-war crap, etc. it would have been met with a stunned silence. That was not in the genre of the day back then.
I know your comment was from years ago, but in case anyone else has the same question, the lyrics are correct. In the song, she says "holds me tight" but I guess that was too risqué for television in the 60s, so they changed it to "holds me near"
In the duet with Dick Kallman the song is Everybody Loves A Clown, NOT The The Tears of A Crown. This is obviously typical Japanese error as it is obvious from the incorrect spellings and the incorrect title; not to mention the fact that hoshino6--like most Japanese probably wouldn't dare have a native English speaker help him to make sure his English is correct, nor his facts are correct! Dick Coleman; Tears of A Crown; REALLY!
ウワハハハハハハ❗️ If you're calling me "Stug-gots," then you and I must know each other personally. Capsice? Capisci? No, you obviously don't. Evidentimenti non capisci. 🥱
Unlike "Shindig!" on ABC, CBS's "Hullabaloo" retained a lot more of the feeling of a traditional musical TV show instead of being more legit rock & roll. Not that it really mattered because neither program lasted very long. It's ironic to watch Lesley having to play the game and sing about "my guy", being forced to cover up that she was/is a lesbian. That was forbidden in those days!
NBC. CBS wouldn't have been caught dead dealing with the youth demo outside of Ed Sullivan's musical guests until a certain pair of brothers succeeded where Gary Moore couldn't far as going up against Bonanza
He was mostly a stage singer and had his own TV sitcom for one season. He made headlines when he was murdered in his own apartment in NYC along with a friend of his who was visiting.
"Like most straight men" ? Who do you think you are to speak in the name of "most straight men" ? I know MANY very straight men who are way more open-minded than you are (thank God). And just to let you know, I'm a straight woman. Good luck to you, ami !
"a rip off of DOWNTOWN" - Yeah, right - it had words and music; that's about all it had in common with "Downtown". I don't really LIKE it, but don't think it was a rip-off of anything. I love "Maybe I Know", although I don't remember ever hearing it before. Lesley was a little before my time. I DO remember "It's My Party". R.I.P., Lesley. I wish singers were more like you these days instead of sleazy, vulgar trampy looking things "singing" horrible vulgar lyrics, relying on Auto-Tune, and dressing worse than hookers.
Nona Moose you are a buffoon...this crap was a blatant attempt to capture the essence of the mega hit downtown...now go eat some poontang on the planet LESBOS
Nona Moose You don't HAVE TO listen to such junk, you know. There are enough folk, country and international artists to keep you busy the rest of your life.
Rajamutto: Hahahaha, so true. If it smells it sells. This one was so bad no wonder it did not sell. Even the dancers couldn't save this one. All those good songs written by good song writers of the day and she picks or is told to sing this one. Absolute junk. Poor Leslie...what a waste of talent. And hey folks I am an old dude who was raised on this stuff. Occasionally, music got the flu, and I am afraid this one caught the flu...everyone run to the toilet now....I love LG, but really girl...
O.K., enough! You must be female and simpatico to "the life style." Fine, suffer in silence. Like most straight men, I do not respect "the life style" and am bored stiff with this whole conversation now. Have a happy life and good luck to you.
Still listening, Lesley will forever have a place in my heart !

Leslie Gore…loved her voice
She was very attractive as well..

Dusty Springfield was the voice of the 60’s for me. Leslie and the others are next in line
Lesley was a teen, the other ones were much older, she sang like an older girl, was a Beauty, and all the girls want to be just like her.
That is why she is the authentic American sweetheart, that’s the difference between the rest.
this was a show we would watch faithfully every week, as well as Shin-Dig. Love these shows, and Lesley was one of my fav singers during that time...
This is like from another world. A nicer world.

RIP sweet pee. Sadly missed and loved. Beautiful in every way.
Oh WOW ! Peter Noone AND Lesley Gore !! I so lvoe this vid.
Lesley, she's so cute and pretty. I lvoe the way she pronounces her lyrics.
"That sort of thing." I think the fact that she lives her life openly and without fearing to be judged deserves respect.
1965 What a time to be 8 years old and listening and watching Lesley on TV Was watching then Wish I could go back to that magic time
Not everybody was 8 years old in 1965 and grew up in the 1960's I was talking about that time period
I was nine.I feel sorry for the younger generation. They missed it all.
Another 57 baby! I too want to go back. Best times ever!!
Same age as you. It was truly a magic time . I couldn't agree more .
I was also 8 years old in 1965.
This is a good song. It was a big hit, sold well and made the top 40 for weeks in 1965.
Oh! These innocent and kind and caring times of our world that won't ever be seen again. And Lesley Gore gave us so many great songs with her lovely voice and personality.
Lesley RIP you gave us some great music.
What a throw back. I was in elementary school, Mark Twain in Compton and I remember this show. Loved the dancers, too!
Thanks for posting this, it was all great but my favorite part was at 3:29 when he sang "Mrs. Gore you got a lovely daughter" and Leslie realized what he said instead of "Mrs. Brown you got a lovely daughter" and she chuckles from surprise.

Terry D I love this video
I thought that was beautiful What he did for Lesley. The song about the clown was given another complement about being beautiful. Very much loved Lesley. You will always be loved and missed.
Peter Noone still looks and sings great. Saw him at a concert and he sang all the oldies with the Hermits
Just beautiful in every way.
Goodbye Lesley,,we're sure going to miss ya. :0(
A young Peter Noone makes me giddy all over again like a middle school girl. Those were the days!
My thoughts are with Lesley Gore since Monday. Such a great personality; talent; and pioneer for rights. Our time seems to go so fast. We lost you way too soon. RIP.
i got so deep in the magic of this video, that i dont even know what to say... *__*
We miss you Lesley!!!!!
"Mrs. Gore you've got a lovely daughter" *cute*
Peter had it all. Talent, good looks and charm.
1965.......I was eleven and thought Peter Noone from Herman's hermits was so cute. Loved the show and all the music. Those were great times. MAGA
AN EXCELLENT POST on YOU TUBE !
I would live in 1965 forever !
Hullabaloo and Shindig were must-see TV!
Cute song by LESLEY, not one of her Giant hits, but a good song still. This is a rare chance to hear her sing it live so thank you so much for sharing what must be a fairly rare clip. I'm not sure how high this tune climbed on the Pop Charts, but as always it was a fine effort

She sings about guys but she really wanted Judy rather than Johnny!
Definitely a riff off "Downtown" and yet still a very persuasive record. She lights the song from the inside.
Donna McKeknie, the last Hullabaloo girl in the beginning, was a real sweetie. She went on to Broadway
0:13 Looks like Barbara Eden here as well. Could be wrong but it sure looks like her!
Great tune from Lesley's 1965 Mercury album, My Town, My Guy and Me. It was released as a single with A Girl In Love as the B side.
Seen Peter Noonan herman s hermits a few years ago he has a whole head of hair he still sounds the same .wonderful voice still the same as 60s
Me too! Just saw him in my town Oxford, AL. In 2022 he was still full of energy and pizazz!
@@aramboodakian9554 that voice still awesome 💯😎
This was painful to watch, and I'm a fan of Miss Gore!!!
Then you are not really a fan.
Leslie Gore, like the girls groups of the sixties, represented the feelings of teenage girls then. That and a slew of hits should have been enough for her to get into the HOF.
R.I.P. LESLEY.....MISS U4EVER !!
3:43 That's Dick Kallman (not Coleman) singing w/ Lesley Gore. He was starring in the NBC sitcom HANK at the time. He was murdered in NYC in 1980. :(
Thank you. It just goes to show that college is not for everyone.
Sarah Lawrence '68.
Shindig was on ABC. When it was cancelled its time slot was filled with Batman, which was a mid-season replacement show.
Why all the negative comments ? ! It was good time then ! Say something good or say nothing at all . Peter Noone and Leslie Gore were great in this !
Herman meets Lesley Gore in this surprising video!
Michael Bennett and Donna McKechnie dancing in the background
Love her
Great times!
Dick Coleman is so touchy on Lesley
Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits
Isn't that Lola Falana and pre "A Chorus Line" star and Tony winner, Donna McKechnie in the show?
I don't know who they are, but who is the guy singing with her at the end? This was kind of "before my time".
Nona Moose
Dick Coleman. I'm not familiar with him either but his name popped up.
Paul Sawyer Thank you! :)
Yes to both questions!
No Lola Falana was not a dancer on the show.
Leslie did some great songs. This was not one.
Rip Sweet Lady!!
la deuxième chanson " tears of the crown" a été reprise par claude françois sous le titre "tout le monde rit d'un clown".
Holy smokes, look how young 'Herman' (Peter Noone) of the Hermits was here.
He was young, only 17 at the time of taping. He turned 18 the week that NBC originally aired this show.
Shindig was on CBS; Hullabaloo was on NBC.
ABC had Shindig
Shindig ABC
Anyone here for Dicaprio's dancing scene in once upon a time in hoĺlywood trailer?

Men like her. Its so obvious
Adult form of entertainment packaged with enough for teenagers to tune into.
You know the guy from Herman's Hermits was knee-deep in real live girls.
Did she say, "my guy"?
Do you have Bruce Scott singing, "Let The Little Girl Dance"on Shindig?
I wish we still had shows like this now.

I was 22 in 1965 and I didn't know much about lesbians, for that matter. It was that rare to have anyone openly admit it then.
Out of curiosity, how do you know what she knew and did not know in 1965?
There wasn't a single Hullabaloo that wasn't in color, so thanks I suppose.
It depends. For some reason the East Coast prints were in color and the West coast prints were in black and white or vice versa.
sounds like a rework of "Downtown" from Pet Clark
Go-Go Chicks.
Well, seems like it was a good thing for Lesley ..
