This is from the movie, The Girls On The Beach. Lesley had a cameo appearance in the film. In the movie she sings three songs: Leave Me Alone (she wrote this song); I Don't Wanna Be A Loser; and It's Gotta Be You. All three songs are from her third Mercury Records album, Boys, Boys, Boys from 1964.
I grew up watching this movie and I fell in love with Lesley and her voice. My sisters and I would dance in front of an off TV and attempt to sing like her.
This sounds like a re-recording of the song made for this movie. The original recording had the overdubbing of her voice. It's such a rare treat to hear her sing without that effect
This was another early album cut that would have done well on the top 40 if it had been released. Lesley was already writing songs at this time (1963) and this was one of them.
That was Carol Connors who co Wrote Little GTO. She was also in The Teddy Bears who sang lead on To Know Him Is To Love him that was written by her former Partner Phil Spector. He of course became a Superstar Record Producer who Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys was obsessed by.
The brunette dancing in the light blue bikini next to Lesley is famous songwriter and singer Carol Connors. Her biggest writing hit was Little G.T.O. Her biggest singing hit was when she was part of The Teddy Bears "To Know Him is to Love Him." Both went to #1 on the charts.
Is that the Song That Billy Preston & Syreeta Wright sang together. She was the First Mrs. Stevie Wonder and she also was considered to replace Diana Ross in The Supremes in 1970.
Thanks for posting, I love Lesley. At the 2:00 mark when she walks back to the record player look down at her knee's, she's having some sort of wardrobe malfunction, I can't tell if its her slip, it almost looks like a sanitary pad starts to slide down. Strange. Other than that, loved the clip.
Wonder who the brunette is dancing behind Lesley? She's getting funky with it! LOLSad to think she's probably someone's grandmother by now, if she's still living (the brunette, that is).
Speaking on Toni Basil, she was the Assistant Choreographer for The T.A.M.I. Show that Teri Garr danced in and she also Danced in The Pyjama Party Sequence starring Annette Funicello.
Didn't Helen Reddy copy this song from Lesley? I seem to remember a hit that Helen Reddy had where she repeats "leave me alone several times with almost the same melody as Lesley's.
Somewhat like those """BEACH PARTY""" films as THOSE were the first with the 1960s FUN on the BEACH movies and then (here it comes) EVERY movie producer has to GET IN ON THE NEWEST CRAZZZE!!!! And by 1969 the ENTIRE """TAN DON,T BURN""" CRAZZZE completely dissapeared !!!!! But it was supposedly CLEAN CUT BOY and GIRL and BEST FRIEND NEXT DOOR FUN *******
Lesley wrote Leave Me Alone for her third Mercury album, Boys, Boys, Boys. Helen Reddy's #1 hit was titled Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress), from her 1973 album, Long Hard Climb.
Ooh probably her worst song, why are throwaway songs used in films, did they think we'd soon forget them? Not dissing her, she's amazing & cute as a bug! Hugs
I love the song..it so catchy and danceable. Didn't Helen Reddy copy this song? It seems that I remember a song by Helen Reddy where she repeats the phrase "leave me alone" several times with practically the same melody and rhythm as Lesley's version.
This is not her worst song. The song had a smooth driving beat and Lesley only added to the song with her smooth vocals and cute gesturing with the young man sitting on the chair.
the absolute WORST film ever made for the beach type flix!!!! but it was somewhat saved by Lesley and the beach boys on the soundtrack!! Even Les herself said it was pure trash!!
I beg to differ. I believe "Wild On The Beach", which I had to suffer through before I was able to watch "A Hard Day's Night" for the first time, was inferior to this. At least this movie is in color.
@@hebneh now I will agree Wild on the beach is pretty bad as well also check out "It's a Bikini World" and "Beach Ball" for some awful beach party rip offs! I have most all of these type films on dvd
@@MrMartybearass To its credit, "It's A Bikini World" does have a horror / monster-themed discotheque in which the Castaways lip-synch their hit "Liar, Liar" while a fleshy go-go dancer moves vigorously in a red fringed bikini.

Sabrina?

She was really beautiful and talented
She was capable of much more. Don't get me wrong, but she should have had a big market in the 70's and 80's with that talent. Love her
Leslie Gore was just FABULOUS! Miss her.
RIP the one and only sweet princess Lesley Gore.
What a catchy tune. Saw this flick on TCM the other day and now I can't get this song out of my head.
Sung and written by Lesley Gore.
What a powerhouse performer ! Left us much too soon ! May she rest eternal bliss ! :-)
It's appropriate that Lesley would be telling a boy to leave her alone, since in real life she wasn't into boys.

Gorgeous actresses and good arrangement about song....i ignored blonde and talented leslie gore wrote songs too
Like the old lady says "That was wonderful, Lesley, wonderful!"
The "old lady" was Sheila Bromley, age 57. Other music acts in the film -- The Crickets (minus Buddy Holly) and Beach Boys.
Dang, I wish I could dance like that gal in the background.

@@laminage I met Carol Connors. A wonderful sweet lady.
A fine composition by Leslie, Gore, augmented by the great production work of Quincy Jones.
Love that 64 Mercury!
Where is this from?
I had a huge crush on Leslie way back.... then I met Grace Slick. I have not been the same.
You obviously have xlnt taste !! :-)
She has a beautiful voice
how nice that record player that is on the table.it's from the 50s/60s😍😍

Well good for her. I've heard To Know Him Is To Love Him on Happy Days while Little GTO was on The Wonder Years.
Carol wrote *with you I'm born again*

The one in the blue bikini!
Better and better.
The guy sitting on the floor right behind the dancing chicks has the best seat in the house.
Haha
Is it a movie or a clip?
this song is like another you don't own me song, but a bit faster
Leslie is fully clothed and the dancers are almost naked....the sign of those times.
Can someone tell me the name of that turntable

Carol Connors. Famous songwriter and a member of Phil Spector's Teddy Bears who had a # 1 hit with To Know Him is to Love Him.
Erik Vinson it may be Toni Basil
