    What an intelligent, reflective, articulate and talented lady she was. We got to see far too little of her artistry in later years than I wish we had.

    • @jackanthony976
      @jackanthony976 6 лет назад +1

      Yes, I agree she is highly articulate. However there are many holes in her answers to the interviewer's questions. Lesley states that she no longer had a recording career when she finally graduated from college...but why? It certainly was not for a lack of trying as Lesley continued to record many singles and albums while in college. She continued to make TV appearances while in college. So what happened?

    • @jackanthony976
      @jackanthony976 4 года назад +1

      @alterdestiny There are holes in her interview. The interviewers asked her why they did not hear from her after her initial slew of hits. Lesley's answer is that she went to college. However Lesley continued to record singles and albums and make appearances while she was in college. She never stopped her career because of college. Lesley continued to record well into the mid 70's. The fact of the matter is her record company dropped her in 1969 because she no longer was recording material that would sell. Radio programmers just would not touch her after 1968 or so. I have read Lesley's biographical book and she recorded record after record after record well into the mid-70's, and the public for the most part did not get to hear them. I have to say though the records she made after 1967 were not very good as they failed to match the music with her persona. The excitement of her earlier hits simply was not there.

"What happened?"- Well, Beatlemania happened, the British Invasion happened.I think I read long ago that Lesley was the last big pop sensation in the US before the Beatles came in and dominated the charts. Not much she could have done for a different outcome.

      Probably the way of many early 60's performers, when the producers and labels took it all. Add writer royalties, what's left but the personal appearances? You're right, and it always brings me sadness to see those we love for the joy they gave us to have so little back.

      Lesley herself said she only receive ONE check from her record company during years she was having all here hits, and it was for $16,000. Then, after releasing her they claimed that SHE owed THEM money for studio time. Like so many of those 60's artists she got ripped off by her record company (I think she did receive some additional monies like 30 years later in a settlement against them).

      Julia Dawnyel Pretty sure it's not meant vulgar. It's I think directed at the deep sultry quality of her voice, very similar to Jodie Foster now that it's mentioned; and while maybe presumptuous to relate that to being lesbian, it's an arguable point just as gay men often have a characteristic way of speaking. Personally, I don't even think about her preferences until someone brings it up - my instinctual thoughts are "what a voice!" - speaking and singing. So few of my early musical influences left.
