@@haru3564 love to see other kids getting into this music too. I’m turning 16 and I’ve been listening to 60s and 70s music since I was 8. Still love it and always will!
Lesley had perfect pitch. She was so much more than It's My Party as this amazing performance shows. What a beautiful, talented singer and songwriter she was.
Despite the fact that sshe sang incredibly and that she is insanely beautiful, I would like to state that probably no makeup trend will ever suprass the 60's style. So amazing.
Amen to that I've always loved her but I didn't know she could belt it out like this you can also see her sing hey jude cry me a river also on Ed Sullivan with shorter hair looking drop dead gorgeous and singing her heart out
I hope you've continued to explore her work. I can give you rec's anytime. For example, have you listened to her version of "Got to get you into my life"?

She was an out lesbian at a time when that could have been a career- killer, but she just chose to live her life. She and her partner were together for 33 years until her death.

@@MaybeIKnow80a documentary. Would love to see this with the emphasis on her talent and not her private life. I’m with you Silent Majority ,she was the greatest singer ever and deserved so much more recognition than she got. Shame on the music industry for not supporting this remarkable talent
Lesley recorded a studio version of "Hey Judy/Cry Me A River" in early 1970s for Crewe Records. It was never released. She performed this medley on Ed Sullivan.
Lesley sang the hell out of this! Once the hits stopped, staying in the nightclub/cabaret field would have been great for Lesley's career, as evidenced by this performance.
Yes! When I heard the then-modern 60s lilt used to intro I Could Have Danced All Night, I thought the tune was about to be a dud, but, wow, what she did with it. Fantastic. And then, that superb arrangement making a medley with segue themes of old and new. I wonder who wrote the chart. Definitely a top arranger, whoever he was.
I agree also Broadway she's one of the most underrated female singers her career should have been a lot more successful I believe that she was mismanaged
She did do a bit of theater. I remember seeing print ads for Lesley in a production of Funny Girl in either 1968 or 1969. I was a teen then and was hoping I could see her. I did getto see her in the 80s and early 00s (before Ever Since, which Ilove).
When Mercury Records dropped her in the late 60s, Lesley turned to doing summer stock ("There's a Girl In My Soup" with Bill Bixby; "Finnian's Rainbow", and others. In 1970 she signed with Crewe Records (Bob Crewe's label) and recorded several singles. Bob's company went bankrupt and Lesley was without a label.
@@stevemichaelsmichaels4646 She did an album on Mowest in 1972. The title was Someplace Else Now. Her A&M album produced by Quincy Jones in 1976 is fantastic. Ever Since (2005) was the best of the bunch.
This is probably my most favorite RUclips clip of Lesley Gore. I get chills just watching this video, especially the last minute. Beautiful rendition, beautiful voice, beautiful woman.
In high school in the sixties when she rose to stardom. Oh, that voice! What a wonderful time to be a teenager and the memories get more vivid every year.
Lesley was so beautiful, talented & classy! Performing those wonderful songs filled with warmth & melody.❣️ A great time to be in the Music Industry! We won’t ever see the likes of her again.😔

Wow, wow, wow...another wonderful, amazing performance by Lesley. She could sing anything and. make it her own. I always loved her and I will always miss her. ❤
1969 what a great year for music. Connie Francis sings the songs of Les Reed, also her unreleased until 2016-2017 country recording of "Old Records" that was only on an acetate demo until it was bought by the right person from a collector who had to mastered imams in stereo. Lesley doing great songs. I love it =)
I never cease to ponder on the challenges inherent for some singers to extend their career beyond the initial hits. Could Leslie have reinvented herself, found new exciting material to harness her talent, while her career flourished in each decade for every new generation? Can’t help but recall Ricky Nelson’s “Garden Party”, and the line “..But if memories were all I sang, I’d rather drive a truck”. Never realizing the reward of record royalties, and relegated to Oldies Shows and the like, I wish our Beloved Pop Princess would’ve enjoyed a successful renaissance. No doubt she loved her original adoring fans, and co-wrote some great music, but she left a meager 50K to her wife which makes me sad. Her choices, professionally and personally were hers, but she deserved more staying power, and a creative team who could’ve possibly helped with a whole new body of work. 💓
Claudio de Rochefoucault Indeed. I recently expressed the same sentiment about Gary Puckett, whose voice I adore. Like Leslie, Bobby, and so many others, they are shackled by the hits that brought them to prominence, and while still attempting to earn a living, must take on the enormous and courageous feat of reinvention to gather new, and enduring fans.
@@skyavalanche Yes, it was a pitfall of the industry and I guess still is. For me, Rydell was important because he's one of the first names I remember recognizing as a famous singer when I was a little boy. Sinatra was an exception and Judy Garland. They both were able to move on and grow up. They weren't stuck. Even "The Fifth Dimension" wound up with oldie revival shows. All these talented artists...chained to their pasts. But they all somehow adapted and grew with smaller careers.

Yes, after her Mercury years, she had recorded some great songs. However, the public didn't want to see Lesley "grow up" singing more mature songs. She was pigeon holed into the "It's My Party" teenybopper rut.
She was definitely channelling Diana Ross, in voice and style. She did a few Ross type songs, she was an effective soul singer, but her management quashed that pathway.

I don't understand the need to share her sexual preference. Are we getting to a state where we have to identify ourselves in such a manner? I hope not because it is irrelevant.
I hope she knew how much happiness she brought us. It’s easy to not a take a teeny bopper singer seriously, but she was a bonafide talent.
