      John wrote all the songs and Denny had a powerful voice. this band is one case where all their vocals created the perfect melody… And if even one person stepped out it through the vocals off…. Except Michelle, she was mostly an ornament. They need to make a movie out of this… And Fleetwood Mac. The only two bands whose entire catalog is about 💊 and cheating with their band mates.

      @@ckotcher1 Nah... what Michelle "lacked" with her singing ability she amply made up for with charisma. Her singing had personality and she could actually sing... but wouldn't compare her pipes with Cass'... I know she didn't either.
      Characterizing Michelle as an "ornament" is not accurate... I'll leave that designation for self-describing Pamela Morrison.

    The very worst thing what happen to Cass was the affair between Denny & Michelle. She had been in love with him for years. She told Michelle you could have any man why would you take the one person I love. That was a massive divide in the band. They both had now destroyed every person in the band. They were at the height of their fame. Cass was the only person that had a true heart in that whole group. I just wish she would have had more time with Owen and saw much more success. When she died she was solo and packing in the crowds. Sad end to a beautiful voice and soul.

    Moma Cass didn’t die in a hotel room. She had been lent Harry Nilsson’s Mayfair apartment, and in a further act of tragedy, he lent it to the Who’s Keith Moon, who died there also a few years later.
    I like this narrator, but he omitted the truly awful behaviour of John Philips, who was his daughter MacKensie’s “lover” for over a decade, well into her twenties.
    Perhaps our narrator was unaware of just how awful this man was, or merely wished to spare us the ghastly details.

    • @GonzoHenson
      @GonzoHenson 3 месяца назад +39

      I guess he wanted to edit things down to mostly focus on Michelle. Plus, by the time it happened, he and Michelle weren't as connected as in their early years. I think the scriptwriter would have also had to wrestle with Michelle's attitude with McKenzie's revelation of her abuse. A lot of her family called her a liar, which sadly happens with abuse victims. The victim starts falling down a rabbit hole of destructive behaviors due to their trauma and the family starts thinking of them as a 'problem.' Then, when the abuse is revealed, they think that the victim is lysing or attention-seeking and are unsupportive and disbelieving, furthering the trauma. I don't know if Michelle has become more supportive in future years, but it is a tough dynamic to portray in a short bio. It does, however, add some counterpoint to the notion that, later in life, she became this caretaker and champion of her extended family.

She felt zero guilt about breaking up John's marriage to Susan and none for breaking Mama Cass's heart by having an affair with Denny. I don't agree with commenters who say that she had a beautiful voice. She was almost tone deaf and learned her parts note by note. It's particularly obvious when you watch footage of her vocals alone or with her vocals isolated. She was pretty and that was enough to help propel the group to stardom. In a stroke of karma, she married a man who was as horrific as he was talented.

    For those that don't know who Chuck Day was, he was much more than a studio musician. He played with Johnny Rivers and came up with the catchy guitar riff in "Secret Agent Man" as well as other great guitar lines. He had a really easy way with a guitar and none the notes he played were forced. The footage of him at 19:05 was taken at 19 Broadway in Fairfax Ca. Chuck was a bartender there and was well known in the Fairfax music scene. I'm not sure how but pretty much everyone knew that Owen was his daughter with Mama Cass. After he passed away (after his third heart attack) there was a memorial at 19 Broadway and Owen was present. That was the only time I ever saw her.

    "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers In Your Hair)" was not 'their' song. It was written by John Phillips, but given to his long-time friend, Scott McKenzie. Scott had a terrific range as a vocalist, and had been one of "The Journeymen". He even became a 'Papa' in later configurations of the band. He and I became good friends in his last couple of years, so I had to set that record straight. Just a minor quibble - I love your channel.

      @@InnerMittenSignalThat’s ridiculous. You have zero evidence to prove that lie. Over 90% of inmates in US prisons are ‘Christian’. Only 0.04% of inmates are atheists. The Bible doesn’t teach anything about morality. If you read it with an honest and open mind you’d see how the biblical god is a serial mass murderer that loves genocide, misogyny, rape, incest, infanticide, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, torture and issued laws stating if a girl doesn’t yell loud enough while being raped she must be stoned to death. Another says fathers can sell daughters into slavery. Another says if a groom learns his bride isn’t a virgin on their wedding night she must be stoned to death that night. A goat herder in those times knew nothing about gynecology. There was no way to tell if a female is a virgin. Hymens get torn or they were never there. So your god says a girl who tore her hymen or was born without one should be murdered. How can Christians consider these barbaric commands by their god MORAL? And let’s not forget that law stating if a man rapes a girl the rapist isn’t punished. The girl is punished for the rest of her life because your god’s law says the girl must marry the rapist and be raped the rest of her life. Your god is beyond immoral. That sick (imaginary) entity is a psychopathic monster. And lastly, your god sent his so-called ‘chosen people to murder entire towns of men, women, children, toddlers and babies. But they spared the girls so they could enslave the girls and force them to marry the same sick chosen-ones who murdered their entire families. Your gif had his goons invade towns and slice to death everyone with swords and knives then drug the terrified girls over the bloodied bodies of all the people she lived in her life. How can Christians condone these sick, vile immoral acts against others? The biblical god is an immoral monster. Stop lying about your delusional cult. You and your disturbing religion have hurt and killed people since it was founded.
      Before lying to others get evidence. If you don’t have any credible evidence why are you saying things you know nothing of! If you can tell I am angry at Christians who constantly try to shove their delusions on others. Your sick cult caused a dear friend to slash her wrists. She had the Bible bashed into her head since birth. Sge had a war going on in her head. She was taught to believe every good thought she had was god. And every bad thought was the devil. The only way she could get away was to kill herself. Because of the way she felt you Christians would’ve had her burned at the stake at one time. I drove 450 miles every weekend for two years to visit her in the state hospital. She received secular therapy to purge her mind of all the religious abuse she was exposed to. I checked her out of the mental hospital on weekend days. She told me I saved her life. In the two years in the hospital not one member of her Christian family visited, wrote or called her. Not one person in a 3,000 congregation Baptist church visited, called or wrote during those two years. I’m an atheist and I was there for a friend. Not one Christian was. I went to her church once. It was a hate fest. The preacher was extremely abusive to the congregation. And he was citing his rage directly from that disgusting Bible. I sat next to my friend but after a few minutes into that preacher’s abusing ravings I told my friend I am not going to subject myself to this abuse. I got up and walked out the side doors of the church. Then as I walked down a hall to the exit three women walked toward me saying “where do you think you’re going?” I told them I’m going outside because if there is a real god he’d be out there and not in this sick cult. I walked out into 15 degree weather in just a dress shirt. I didn’t feel cold. I felt elated being away from that pit of abuse and hatred that you call a holy church.
      Stay out of other people’s lives and stay out of government. Mind your own damned business.

He was so full of himself and was continuously floored that I could not care less if he is fanous. I know a jerk when I see one and he truly was one. The level of self procmainmed impirtance was nauseating. Having that said, there are also genuinely nice celebs too . I just never bought into the extreme worship of fame here in the US.
