      Oliver Delica Technically she didn't neeed backup. She even worked on her singing, a lot too! Also, when she did sing the songs she didn't sound half bad. But the movie director wanted her to sound Completely flawless . . . think of it like how you know how Beauty and the Beast live action Bell was waaay over dubbed . . . surely you remember that, right . . . well it was like that.
      Except the only difference being that Audrey worked so hard to sing well, thinking they'd use her own voice. If you do the research, you'll see I'm mostly if not entirely accurately correct.

      Yes she shined sooo very well in all these roles and therefore will be remembered for ages and ages, hopefully! And I personally hope that all little girls who want to sing well in a classical-type of genre, strive to sing just as well as Julie sang at their age, so that even if they don't reach that hight of lovelyness, they'll have achieved more than they would have if they hadn't set that goal!

And she’s never watched it with Spanish subtitles, so she had no clue what was being said, but she loved the singing and anything Julie Andrews. • @hershelorg
      @hershelorg Месяц назад +2

      @@cazia9 And to follow up on that, I have watched "The Sound of Music" with director Robert Wise commenting on the making of this film. He said while they were trying to decide who would play Maria Von Trapp, he heard that Walt Disney was filming "Mary Poppins" with an amazing "new" (to movies) talent, Julie Andrews. He and producer Saul Chaplin (hope I got his name correctly), contacted Walt Disney and asked if there was any footage of the film that they could screen to evaluate her for the Maria part. They watched part of the first reel where Julie sings "A Spoonful of Sugar" and Robert Wise said to Saul, "Let's get out of here and go sign her before anyone else gets her." And so, not getting the film role of "My Fair Lady" resulted in her getting "Mary Poppins", and that then resulted in her getting "The Sound of Music".

    Julie Andrew's voice as superb as it was in the late 1950's, was even better during the 1960's and 1970's. It reminds me of how the late, great Karen Carpenter's voice, although excellent in 1969 when the Carpenters came out with their "Ticket To Ride" album (originally released as "Offering"), was even better during the mid-to-late 1970's!

      @@tessaskye5479 i dont think that was a key change...it was just the orchestra playing "brightly" which may mean the tuning of the instruments to be ever-so-slightly higher. so for e.g. the A could be 445 hz instead of 440 hz. (this is just an assumption....Julie would know for sure)

    Audrey Hepburn was very disappointed when they did not use her singing voice in “My Fair Lady” and instead dubbed by Marni Nixon. I think there is a recording of Audrey singing “I Could Have Danced All Night”. You can hear Audrey’s original voice in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” when she sang Moon River, which did not require an operatic voice. Sadly, Marni Nixon did not receive original credit for her marvelous singing in the recordings of “My Fair Lady”, “West Side Story”, “King and I” as they did not want to disclose her identity until years later. Natalie Wood was also disappointed when they did not use her singing voice as well for “West Side Story”. No hard feelings between Julie Andrews & Marni Nixon, as Marni had a nun role in “The Sound of Music”.

      Yes, it was scripted, but I don't see what is supposed to be 'passive-agressive' about it. It is just light-hearted banter. Dinah obviously loved Julie's voice and later in this show they did a soprano/alto duet together where they seemed to be having fun.

    She looks older here than she did when she did SoM and in the 1970s. She changed her hairstyle completely by then so that it was short, bobbed, with a fringe framing her face. It was a much better look and softened her features.
    The singing is superb, obviously.

      I know. It was completely unnecessary, wasn't it. But quite common in those days for some odd reason.

    Julie Andrews is perfect for the role. Audrey Hepburn is also, in her own way except she can't sing like Julie Andrews. It is a tough choice to compare the two. Both are very well-loved, classy and gracious. That is why Rex Harrison in his Best Actor Oscar speech thanked both of them. Not one!

    Can't believe, she wasn't the real voice on the movie. People are really stupid.
