Even the conductor was like...okay girl!
And u know it’s good when he turns every performance. It’s that good!
"Too many good voices...MY solo", LOL! I love Ms. McDonald's work so much!
All that, and she can work a crowd in a funny and charming way? And then comes in with the extra opt-up high note at the end!
gifted
Audra McDonald, actress and singer, primarily known for her work on the Broadway stage, she has won six Tony Awards, more performance wins than any other actor, and is the only person to win in all four acting categories. In addition to her six Tony Awards she has received numerous accolades including two Grammy Awards, and an Emmy Award. She was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2017
Thanks for the copy and paste.
@@beignet2012 lol exactly. I was watching The Good Fight and just decided to look up her singing and seen this exact Wikipedia on her. Lol
I thought maybe she was feeling under the weather and was improvising to get through the high notes; then she blew me right off my sofa at the end.
If you get a chance to see Audra live, take it!
Absolutely. We got last-minute standing room tickets when Porgy & Bess was in trials at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge and she was mesmerizing from the second she stepped on the stage.
@@ThomasDawkins88 We saw her in concert with the Seattle Symphony in November last year--probably pretty much the London show. We also saw her on Broadway in 2019 in a dramatic role--no singing. Don't miss Audra--she's worth every penny no matter what she's performing.
She’s a treasure.
I’ve seen her in concert several times and she is always superb.
She will be in the new Broadway revival of Gypsy as Mama Rose
I was right up there in the Grand Circle!! When she invited us all to sing it was magical!
When Audra McDonald says "Sing" you SING! It's not everyday you get to sing with a Queen. So Fun! Audrey Hepburn was smiling in Heaven with that Crowdwork and Heavenly High Note 😍 BRAVO!!! 💗✊🏾
My son and I sang along with her tonight at Hammer Hall in Melbourne! Such a wonderful experience. And when she hits that last note….goosebumps!
I was at Hamer Hall tonight too! She's got the most magical voice, what a performance!
I was there with my partner! Such a magical night, I can’t stop thinking about how she just defies description. She’s absolutely perfect.
Omg what a silly fun and lovely take on this song 😂😂😂 she worked the crowd so well! This was great!
That final NOTE!!!
One of the best to ever grace a mic!
And today she'll be bringing the house down at the Sydney Opera House !!!!
Her last note sent chills down my spine, and made my eyes well up with tears. Just beautiful!
Wow. Holy crap. That was fantastic.
She is SO terrific!
Come on through with that earth shattering SUSTAINED note!
McDonald is so fun to see live.
She's so beautiful.
But why ain’t she married to a brotha?
She's a Queen!
Am I the only one finding out she had such a beautiful voice????
Awww. That’s so sweet. She is known for her incredible voice. She is a vocal powerhouse.
I have known that for years. Where have you been?😂
She’s gorgeous
High C!!!

So wonderful - and her control of the audience!
beautiful!!! omg
oh wowwww!
This was so very cool! ❤❤❤
Gorgeous❤
Oh Magnificent😍😍😍😍❤❤❤❤👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Love you Audra❤
She’s amazing. It always surprises me that when you get an audience to sing they sound great. But you know half of them are tone deaf. Maybe those that can’t don’t?😂😂
In a crowd that large, there were quite a few who had a set of pipes on them Audra even heard them. But when she hit that last note??? OMG my jaw dropped and I was just floored. Kudos to her and all those women that hit that last note before she blew everyone out of the water!!!!
💜Bravo 💜
FANTASTIC!! Bravo!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This woman is brilliant!!!! Period
yup
What a treasure! She's amazing!
Oh this was so fun!!!

She flexed on ‘em
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
In 2010 Diana Damrau sang the original version in a German fun talk show in a kind of house music version .. look for „ Diana Damrau - Zimmer frei“ on youtube it is even better..just her and one of the hosts…a musician, pianist..it was her first role after university
Why do people always feel the need to come up with an “even better” version?
@@jcmunich1 but it is better..so why not sharing it…ruclips.net/video/ZpuIFBj1I2M/видео.html Audra McDonald is great..but in this version..it is a bit stiff..it lacks the „acting“ of Diana Damrau..the fun..the dancing…btw. the dynamics of Damrau are way better…
that 2010 version is stupid. there is no audience and you can't understand it. it's not fun.
@@rellenoz just learn German..the mother language of the composer..and it needs no audience..or complain to the conductor, orchestra.etc. that they made such a boring performance..Eliza‘s age is assumed to be between 18-20..Audra McDonald seems to be a 60yo on stage..and a stiff bourgeois London audience..why not taking that micro..and dance.with charme
@@tillm2481 The mother language of Alan Lerner, who wrote the lyrics, was English.
She's wonderful...but here she sounds a little flat....😢
I saw her sing this in L.A back in 2013 - I don't think she understands the song and she just treats it like a fun showpiece. It's not about blasting a High C at the end - doesn't fit the emotional context of the number at all.
Moreover, Audra had the AUDACITY back in 2013 to throw some shade at Audrey Hepburn for requiring Marni Nixon's dubbing. Audra, you *NEVER* had a face like Audrey Hepburn's and no amount of High Cs you emit will *EVER* match the immortal beauty and sublimity and transcendent elegance encapsulated by Audrey's *FACE* during the film's "I Could Have Danced" sequence (especially the 2nd and 3rd verses).
This is drenched in haterade and anti blackness. And that high C wasn’t dubbed. 🤐😏
It’s not about understanding the song, it’s the audience participation part of her show, and then having the final word….to the delight of the audience. Stop being a hater.
@gp3019 Any TRUE singer/artist knows that it's *ALL* about understanding the song and NOT about treating the audience like circus clowns and then having the "final word" in such an obnoxiously egotistical way. I don't think Audra has been raised well by her parents at all. In fact, I think she's a NARCISSIST. Donald Trump finds his female match in her.
And ask AUDRA to stop being a hater first - a hater of AUDREY HEPBURN in her case. I guess she can't stand the fact that she will never be an icon like Audrey because when it comes to AUDRA VERSUS *AUDREY* we all know who the entire world is going to remember and cherish long after Audra is gone. Audra just has her little coterie and that's it.
Not even KATHLEEN BATTLE ever took liberties with the music like this, despite being a haughty prima donna offstage. I wish Alan Jay Lerner and Mr. Loewe were still here as I would love to hear their thoughts on this "performance".
She has been doing the SAME *SHTICK* with this song for over one and a half decades. There's another RUclips video of her doing this almost word for word with that stupid monologue in another country. She thinks she is it, but ANY number of singers the world over can blast out a High C if they are a soprano, tenor or even a high mezzo. Marni Nixon and Julie Andrews could BOTH hit High Cs in their sleep, back in the 1950s and 1960s, but they never reduced this song to such a CHEAP SHOW-OFF STUNT........not even when Julie Andrews sang this on the Ed Sullivan Show and Dinah Shore's program etc.
Now let's trying to beat Ethel Merman and Patti LuPone on Broadway by doing her own version of GYPSY - if she's so successful, she should just have her own musical written for her, but no no no. She's just an over-inflated NARCISSIST and has the gall to advertise the show as "AUDRA GYPSY" for all intents and purposes, via the ridiculous font on the promotional material - what a fragile ego! Patti LuPone had "the last word" on that role back in 2008, and Audra will be nothing more than an "also-ran" by contrast.
I will not stop doing ANYTHING for you, so don't you dare talk to me like that again. I won't bother responding to any more of YOUR comments, but I will keep calling out Audra's FRAGILE NARCISSISM and her OBNOXIOUSNESS. Watching her is about as entertaining as watching Donald Trump. You probably like seeing a Black female version of Trump 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@Rapture1987Get over yourself. She’s having fun with the audience, nothing more. You clearly have some weird obsession. Go and do something useful rather than spread your venom on here.
