@@melissam597 I just think that making movies into broadway shows is killing it. Like Mean Girls, Spongebob, 13 Going on 30, The Devil Wears Prada and all the new ones about singers like Britney Spears and Whitney Houston. Personally I feel all the remakes and revivals of old films and shows is killing it, as there seems to be not much that is new or fresh. It's kinda like the Disney trend of remaking old films when they could put that same energy into something completely new. But obviously, that's just my opinion and it doesn't mean the shows don't have potential. :)

Excellent. I was really surprised by this. The man's got real talent. Well done everyone!
Well... he has been in several musicals. Including the live action Into the Woods.
@@badazzledhippo6010 I admit I don't know much about him other than being a talk show host. I was impressed when he followed through going skydiving with Tom Cruise. But this really opened my eyes.
This performance is dedicated to the theatre community, the audience, and to all the thespians and theatre lovers in the world! It truly reminds me of all the reasons why I love theatre so much. Because if you really think about it - you’re either a theatre person or you’re not a theatre person. I feel like you have to be a theatre person to “TRULY” experience and truly appreciate this performance. That being said, it was an jaw dropping performing full of SO much joy, passion, love, and BROADWAY! Hooray to us! To this community! To every theatre lovers. What a blessing it is!
the beetlejuice cast im crying i love them
That was awesome. Bravo, Mr. Corden. You deserved that standing ovation.
Paco. Candela
He was so happy at the end, it was cuuute!.!😊
It made me happy to see him happy☺
(Thx for the likes,😁👍🏾)
IKR! But to be fair, wouldn't you, if you got a standing ovation on a broadway stage for the Tony's?
@@00AgentKrabie yeah totally!!!!!
@@00AgentKrabie im really glad he got a chance to do a broadway act, he can really sing.😁

A STANDING OVATION!!!DAMN RIGHT ITS WHAT EVERY BROADWAY STAR DESERVES!!!!
IKR,HE REALLY DOES,HE JUST DOES!
He was really awsome
Not just Broadway star but any theatre performer anywhere
“Law and Order corpses”
* Alex Brightman raises hand *
Typecast as *dead*
They all did
Literally everyone raised their hand
James really is an outstanding talent. He is fearless.
You shouldn't be afraid to do an opening number that was done by Neil Patrick Harris years before.... It worked then, it had to work on Sunday...
@@TheZenzen76 You still have to pull it off live...
No one is Broadway and chilling
What an icon
Lucas Whitlock ikr
Yass! IKR,he just is,he just is!
I don’t even know why I gasped frantically when I saw Alex Brightman
I can just imagine James Corden doing this entire opening number in his shower every night for a month before the ceremony.
in the CAR ON THE WAY TO WORK waaah!
ugh
You can see it in his eyes after the standing ovation that he is so honoured and I love him for that
6:07 Chad from High School Musical really made it!
And he said he can't dance hm Ryan proved him wrong
He really hit that dance out of the park
i didnt even notice corbin at first wow
Well he is currently on broadway lol
WHAT!!??? Omg I didn’t even notice
Just when I thought Broadway had died, this was a lovely little reminder of what it truly is 🙌
Why do you think it’s dead?!
Melissa McDonald People ALWAYS day this. Even though it’s not true at all. The whole nostalgia thing I guess.
@@melissam597 personally I thought musicals in particular were dead, because all it seemed to be until a few years ago was elitist actors celebrate how sophisticated they were. It wasn't relatable to "regular people" for so long, but it's becoming far more fun and interesting
Yeah no talents or skills
When James is such a good singer and actor that he can literally sneak a water break in the middle of the opening number and no one cared 😂
Phillipa Is Good!
Good actor? Cinderella and cats?
@@HawkMaestroTTV into the woods? Gavin and Stacey?

Good singer? Fair singer maybe, No one does it better then Neil Patrick Harris. The only times I watch the opening live is when he is the host.
the beetlejuice cast needed more screen time just saying 💁♀️
Agreed, they are the best
omg natalia retweet
Officieel Xanthe yesyesyes
Yeah they literally ran on stage, picked him up and ran off. Everyone else at least got to do a little dance or something.
@@AJ-os1pq or I don't know... Posession of James for a minute or two! That would've been awesome
Jame's face at the end though during the standing ovation :'))))))))
d'awww he cried at the end. You go, James!
James reminds me constantly of why my previous relationships didn't work, I could never move in life with men that didn't love musicals. My energy was stuck and stagnant, no singing, no dancing, no outlet for all the pent up creative energy, other than writing the words that I wasn't able to express through song and dance. Thank you, James, for helping me to find my smile within and reminding me to never stop the show inside my heart.
When he said "it's thrilling to be alive" I started crying. Such a great performance James!!!
Very well done, James. Remembering all of the lyrics, blocking and getting through it all on such an important stage - amazing. You deserved the standing ovation.
Wow this was SOOO good. And his giggle at the end was so cute! Really well written, funny, witty and an amazing cast of talent!!!
Ive seen this 17 times now and it never loses its magic touch. im so glad they were ice enough to show this on RUclips despite the fact the point of the song is 'this something you can only experience live'. I haven't seen any of the other Tony openings but im 100% sure this is the best one.
You should totally check out Neil Patrick Harris’s opening! That one and this one are probably my favorites
Haters: he cant sing
James: * sips tea* hold my tea
He gets really breathy though
@@marianne5055 at least he tries 😂😂
Lousy singer
Least he not using autotune got to say something for that how many singers sound dreadful but you don't know

You can tell how James was thinking it's all surreal to him at the end... I'm so happy for him =')
Give that man a Tony for Best Host Musical Number!
That would go to Neil Patrick Harris
The television broadcast qualifies for a number of Emmy Awards. They will be giving those out in September. Neil Patrick Harris has won some for his work on the Tony Awards.

I love this. It captures the feeling of live shows perfectly and James performing it is icing on the cake, no-one else could do this justice.

you are really awesome! such a wonderful legacy to perform like that. more power to you!
You have to give this to James Corden: he made the absolute best of what nature gave him to work with.
Meanwhile: this opening number was extremely well thought out and directed! The dancers are awesome!
He's made a little go a very long way...
His inner child came out at the standing ovation with that little giggle signifying how thankful he is to have that moment and how it has always been his dream as a little boy to be where he is now, truly a blessing. I'm glad such a kind hearted and humble soul like you was given all these amazing opportunities in life and for you to continue living the dream.
These 10 minutes felt like 2. I was completely captivated the whole time. Thank you James, your beautiful background dancers, and whoever came up with this song.👏
Didn't want it to end! Was wondering where I could get a ticket for THAT!
That split on the floor that james did was also very surprising as well!!!!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
