She is charm personified. And she just popped out that song as if it was no trouble at all.
Yes, it was magical. I was simultaneously grinning from ear to ear AND tearing up. I'm happy to say that I teach youth musical theatre and all of my 4th, 5th & 6th grade students love her, know her and respect her technique! A parent expressed gratitude to me when they sent me a text message saying "My (11 year old) kid is singing "Wouldn't it be Loverly in the Shower." Thank You! Many children's fave singer is Beyonce or Taylor Swift. Many of my students will say Julie Andrews.

It was no trouble at all. For her.

@@anastasiachiqvinidze3488 I watched it - you have a good talent. Don’t be afraid of the higher notes - place them in the roof of your mouth and let them resonate behind your nose and teeth. Then they’ll pop out! I am almost 65, and my high notes still pop with almost no effort!
Not a single note out of tune, absolutely amazing
She's a great sport here. She hasn't had time to warm up her vocal chords. She just wings it but is pitch perfect. She's so beautiful.
Starbuck2015 it was pre planned and rehearsed.
Producers would have absolutely given her heads up and prepped her
Starbuck2015 you aren’t too bright, are you.
@@stormcloudsabound I guess not genius. By the way your sentence should end with a question mark not a period.
Well, did you hear when he said that she performed this on Broadway? That means during that time, at least twice and sometimes three times a day. She was trying to be modest. But I’m sure she knows this better than the back of her hand.
The classiest human ever.
Elizabeth Taylor up there too.
Fudge Fantasy eh... Elizabeth Taylor had a reputation for being a bit high maintenance (to put it nicely).

Dont forget Audrey Hepburn🤗

OMG! Look at the amount of adorableness that is Julie Andrews! Such a precious thing! And that voice! Holy gosh... and sitting with arms crossed and still, that crystal clear voice! What an instrument!
And legs crossed too!! Not easy.
@@mckavitt13 Hahaha! Yes! And still... the voice comes out effortlessly! Isn't that awesome???
@@AndreinaGarban Yes! For me, Andreina, hers was, for two generations (to include the paradoxically ephemeral infinity:), the best voice (& diction!) both sides of the Atlantic... at least in her genre, in our language.
@@mckavitt13 And still, she's in the list of the best ones! Her diction is almost impossible to match! :-) (LOL! Practically perfect indeed); also, her voice is so distinctive in a very beautiful way.
@@AndreinaGarban And guess what? I figured out how she does it! (Her diction:) What a lady, what a woman, what a Dame! PS. Marni Nixon had a similar voice & diction. So, she must have figured it out too. PPS. Do you have her album Don't Go in the Lion's Cage Tonight? So very, very good. And what a gorgeous album photo!
Breathe support: perfect. Pitch: Perfect. Intonation: Perfect. Interpretation & Phrasing: Perfect. After speaking for several minutes, not even a drink of water or a beverage to clear her throat, seated with arm's crossed in front of her diaphragm. And all in one-take, like only a real theatre artist could. This is a a damn, ridiculously effortless master class!! So good. Truly flawless.
Yes, I noticed the arms crossed as well, she is a machine, like a light switch how she just turned on that beautiful perfect voice, like an angel really.
I have to wonder if that’s why she didn’t get the role in the movie. She was up for the role in the movie and they didn’t go with her. I listened to this video (always wondered how her “bad English” would sound) and her incorrect English still somehow sounds flawless, they probably needed her to sound worse
@@elizacarrie7433 i know it’s a long time after, but no that’s not why she didn’t get the part. Producers said she didn’t have a “movie face” (of course Rex Harrison being a man didn’t need that “movie face”…) and that she wasn’t well known enough to bring enough audience, so they went with Audrey Hepburn. Funny enough, she ended up with her first big role that year with Mary Poppins and won the Oscar opposite to Hepburn being nominated for My Fair Lady as well the same year
I think you mean, Practically Perfect in Every Way!
Breath support.
Well, she told us. Mary Poppins: practically perfect in every way.
She is absolutely insurmountable. No one else in the world could possibly exude that amount of grace and elegance.
Audrey Hepburn did even more so cause of her iconic fashion style.
@@ericlind6581 yes, but she couldn’t sing, you see: it could be a problem in a musical. That’s why she was dubbed by Marni Nixon.
@@umberto7641 sure but the question at hand was about grace and elegance, not singing.
She transforms us in her pure vocals. She bestows the magic that has been her trademark from the start. Sensational talent and grace.
Amazing how she gives a concert-worthy rendition just sitting there casually with her legs and arms crossed. What a joy she is.
Julie Andrews will always be one of my favorite singers. A really perfect voice, and so beautiful.
*shivers* She opens her mouth to sing and everything just feels right with the world.
That made me cry!
You've hit the nail on the head. Not only is her voice beautiful, she makes you feel happy with world, just knowing she's in it. What an amazing human being.
That’s why the damage they did to her vocal cords is honestly a crime against humanity 😢 Her voice brings peace to anyone who listens to her. We connect comfort to her voice because of Mary Poppins and Maria ❤
Julie Andrews losing her voice was like the Statue of Liberty collapsing, or Niagara Falls drying up (or the Old Man of Mountain falling down): a natural catastrophe. No one has ever lit up a room like Julie launching into song, as she does here, transfiguring everything around her.
That was one of the most beautiful performances I’ve ever heard. I have tears in my eyes.
Share my napkin.
me too, she is a treasure.
Me too!
Goosebumps!
I started tearing up as well. Her voice is remarkable.
Julie Andrews has a voice of an angel. The best singing voice in the world!
I’ll never tire of hearing Julie Andrews. Everything she does is golden!!
Yeah she's indeed wonderful...how are you doing today?
Beautiful in every way, so proper well spoken.
Julie Andrews just has a charm about her. All the guys would fall in love with her when she sings.
She has been a gift to the world for 70 years. Bless your heart Julie.
I can't get over how beautiful she is - the class just adds to it.
Julie just positively radiates light and beauty , add to that the fact that even winging it, she has perfect pitch, perfect diction, and a pure ringing tone.
Back when people used to have talent to become a star. She didn't even try and it sitting in a chair for laughs she knocked it out of the park.
Julie Andrews has always been so beautiful and super talented !
The vibrato...never mind pitch perfect...excellent!
Natural vibrato. no exaggeration like some singers used to do. It's just her vocal cords vibrating at the free passage of air, as it should be. It´s a beautiful sound.
with so much going on in the world right now... we all truly need some Julie Andrews right about now 😭😭
Pure class meets pure talent.
Back in the days when stars had real talent.

Julie Andrews is still a star and still with us.
Also natural beauty
When you're so gifted that you can perform perfectly while being completely relaxed 👏👏👏👏👏
Arms crossed, legs crossed and didn’t even warm up or rehearsed. What a legend 🙏🏻👏🏼🥰
At the time, I was old enough to know who Julie Andrews was but way to young to appreciate what a artistic treasure she was.
The glorious beauty of THAT voice! She sang that 8 shows a week with no microphones, no amplification. It projects so beautifully with such purity. Wow!!!!
Does anyone still sing like this nowadays? It sounds so nice and makes so much sense.
God she’s so talented! She has one of the softest warmest voices ever. She exudes motherly gentleness
me: *panics as to why this video popped up in my trending/reccomended*
Me: *Googles and sees she just got a lifetime achievement award and is still happy and healthy*
THANK GOD ABOVE, You gave me a fright!
She will be getting the AFI lifetime achievement award as well in April 2020... I'm so excited...😁
May she live forever 🙈.
Very. Very. Nice. Pretty
It has long been considered that she has one of the best, most smooth and effortless voices in recorded history.
Julie Andrews is a fantastic singer and a great actress.
I think Julie Andrews is one of the most sincere and likable ppl in all of Hollywood. Very classy. Very sweet. Literally haven’t heard a foul thing about this wonderful lady. And talented and GORGEOUS to boot! 🥰
I agree. Julie is singular, unmatchable.
@cubomania3 I totally agree. Julie obviously adored her husband, but personally l feel her professional association with Blake Edwards did not serve her well. Star! flopped but showcased her talents in a way that Darling Lili did not, and l think it was Lili that brought a premature end to her days as the world's number one film star.
I ❤ Julie Andrews is still alive loved that it.
Just like flicking a switch. One of a kind.
I've loved this woman for a half century. I've seen every film she's made, and many of her TV shows. Talented, beautify, funny, damn near perfect!
why, she's practically perfect in every way, so she is!

My favorite female vocalist of all time!
Simply an stunningly beautiful, awesome iconic voice
She's my whole childhood wrapped in a cloud of gentleness and grace.
Yes😢…
Pitch perfect. Absolutely stuning
Wow, I am shocked how beautiful her voice was. How wonderful.. I love how she still retain the cockney accent of the character.
What a lady..what a Dame. What timeless talent! ❤️
Her voice was so comforting as a small child in the 60's.
Greg Martin 90s baby’s too
What a treasure she is to this world.
That little glance she gives Blake as she sings is adorable.
Wow perfect pitch...thank God we got to witness her magic.........
I love the way she smiles at Blake before she starts singing 💖 Love, love, love her
It's the sweetest thing 😳
I often feel that I’ve gotten a bit numb to good singers after listening to so many, but she enchants me every time
Dick is a fascinating host because he's the opposite of modern talk show hosts. Modern hosts try to make themselves part of the entertainment, and their outgoingness often makes the guest more shy. Dick was shy himself, but that actually made the guests feel more comfortable and come out of their shells more, so he often got to see sides of people's personalities that you wouldn't see elsewhere. There's a guy named Graham Bensinger who has a RUclips channel that is the same way.
I will forever curse whoever that doctor was that stole her golden voice away from Julie and for all of us who adore her ...
@sheena valencia: I tried to find the names of the 2 docs.. no go. Did find the place they worked at and where the surgery was: Mt. Sinai Hospital in NYC, NY. More info: www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/03/19/how-julie-andrewss-voice-was-stolen-by-a-medical-disaster/
Her voice was already half gone after doing all those live shows of Victor/Victoria at her age at the time
In my eyes Julie will always have a beautiful voice always has done always will I find it so calming
I just watched the 1995 Victor Victoria musical starring Julie Andrews, it was before her surgery. Her voice was definitely lower then usual and couldn’t really get the high notes due to her age and strain. I can see why she took the step to try and correct it.
Haidi Cheng every ones voice changes as they get older and as you said Julie’s was defiantly lower but it’s just a natural thing but ones thing for sure I think she still has a beautiful voice so calming
Sat down with arms folded and hitting those notes, amazing 👏
I want one of the new "talents" of today to sing live during an interview like Julie did here. Yes, LIVE! Not many if any could - ya basic!
Love you Julie, there will never be another like you❤❤❤
Lady Gaga probably comes the closest to real talent like that
The good place reference
Ms. Lea Salonga can and with class too like Ms. Julie
@@bozo4545 I hear that!
Julie is the definition of a REAL woman. Gracious, bubbly, feminine, and most of all sweeter than a rose in the Spring.
Wow! Just amazing to hear Julie Andrews singing. Chills.
Here I am, 48 years later, just in from the pub, finding this recommended to me, with tears running down my face at such wonderful talent.
There is and can only be one Julie Andrews. A treasure beyond worth!
Definitely a perfect ear! Never off key! Quite a talent!
She should have been in the movie.
@@CharlesKincaid She doesn't sign in the movie- she was dubbed by a professional singer. But yes her own voice was not fantastic. She was an amazing dancer though!
If she had she wouldn't have been in mary poppins! Fate came out good.
Veronica Heuzenroeder It was Marnie Nixon Who sang Audrey Hepburn’s part. Nixon also appeared in the Sound of Music as one of the nuns.
She was SUPPOSED to be in the movie. She starred several productions playing the part in England along with Rex Harrison. It was a huge snub to her to not ask her to play the part when she pretty much made it.
Instead, she went and starred in Mary Poppins and won several awards for it. And Audrey Hepburn did not get nominated for anything for the role as a political whiplash to her doing the part.
@@wickershell Audrey Hepburn was not nominated for an Oscar for 'My fair lady'.
Man she’s such a naturally beautiful lady. Still as beautiful today as she was back then. So called stars of stage and screen could only dream of having Julies sublime talent.
This basically brings tears to my eyes. She is such an amazing singer, so effortlessly talented and so beautiful too. Even how she finished the final note staring at Cavett with a gorgeous smile on her face
She had more than enough class for all three of them.
That was sublime.
Thank goodness for Julie Andrews ! She had a profound effect on my children from Sound of Music to Mary Poppins and countless other movies .They now live in Austria and are classical professional musicians ...and I put it down to her singing and influence . Just amazing .
Julie was so lovely in every way. A really solid actress and a great singer. A true performer.

She is still lovely!!
And she is still alive and hopefully doing well. I am myself in my mid 40s and almost all the greats are gone. In a couple of years I will be left with only recordings and videos of the best ones as they will all be gone. Thanks for platforms as YT!
There will always be new greats
Absolutely loverly ! Can’t believe that she just belted that out without even shifting her position on her chair. I wish they had used her voice in the movie song
The voice of an angel. She is just such a beautiful person and if more people were like her, the world would be a much better place.
Also, just popping that song off, while sitting, is nothing short of impressive.
Julie Andrews is grace and charm and talent and elegance personified and a truly blessed and gifted great lady. She's part of the Greatest Generation.
Enjoyed that immensely. But sad, too. We almost must suffer old age, and the loss of her gift must have been like feeling the cold hand of death.
Unfortunately it wasn’t old age that took her gift from her, it was a botched surgery to remove nodes 😭
I believe God removed the gift that He gave her after she ripped off her clothes and bared her naked breast in the movie Victor/ Victoria
Poor thing. She was way too young to loose her voice for an operation
It had nothing to do with age. Yes, it was botched surgery.
