What a wonderful smile and expressive face Julie Andrews has! I just watched this now; I still remember when this edition of Parkinson was originally broadcast. I remember being impressed by the way Julie didn't ignore Ant and Dec in the conversation. I've also seen the 1st interview she gave on Parkinson in the 70s. You can't fault her for her manners. 👏
Gosh her smile is seriously the most beautiful smile ever. I mean she has always radiated beauty more than anyone. The older she gets the more beautiful she becomes.
To call this special talented Lady - Royalty is truly an understatement. She has given joy through her work to multi generations of millions - that’s a special legacy.
I've enjoyed Parkinson's interviews from early 1970's on RUclips. I had no idea he worked so long. Good on him. Julie Andrews is, of course, exquisite as always. Thank you for the upload.
My grandma took me to see the sound of music at the cinema in 1965 when i was five i learnt the words to every song and still have a singalong julie andrews is a beautiful amazing lady on the inside as well as the outside ❤
I was first introduced to Dame Julie when she did Mary Poppins. Then Victor/ Victoria, Shrek, and finally the Princess Diaries. A wonderful joy to watch her perform!
Julie Andrews is still a very classy lady with a naughty sense of humour and immensely talented. Micheal Parkinson was the King of British chat hosting shows without a doubt.
It’s wonderful to see Julie. She is charm personified. But the title is rather misleading - she only mentions Rex Harrison and Richard Burton. She worked with many many other leading men: Paul Newman, Omar Sharif, James Garner, et al.
She got on with almost all of her leading men (James Garner she adored and the feeling was mutual) but on the set of Hawaii she did not get along with Richard Harris at all (I’ve never heard anything nice said about Harris from anyone) nor did she bond with Rock Hudson on Darling Lilli who said she looked down her nose at him.
@@gerardmackay8909 I've never heard anything bad about James Garner. Ian McKellen was offered the role of Dumbledore after Richard Harris' death and decline because Harris didn't approved of his acting.
@@gretchendietz1599 yes and of course at that point McKellen was heavily identified with the role of Gandalf. Harris was by the end of his life permanently unpleasant to work with (Miriam Margolyes said Michael Gambon was such a breath of fresh air on set when he took on the role) it’s a shame because I actually think Harris captured the ethereal quality of Dumbledore beautifully
So wonderful to see this channel! Looking forward to many more great interviews from the vault! Please always add the original air date - it's important!
Despite being 30 years my senior she was my 1st love crush & this interview reminds me why. Class, grace, beauty, strength & humility.. traits I guess I must've recognised as a toddler & just realised she's a mirror image of my Mum.
When I was very young Julie called my house and I answered the phone. My sister, Joan Hovis, was Julie's roommate in New York and they were both acting in plays. They had small parts but were working. My sister was in "Plain and Fancy" and Julie was in rehearsals for another play. Julie asked me to go and find my sister because she needed to know something about a part. Her accent kind of freaked me out, being from Texas, and I will never forget how patient Julie was with me even though my sister was not at home. She, Julie, just talked about how much she liked my sister and asked me to let her know that her roommate called. I, of course, forgot to tell my sister about the call for several days.
I'm not a singer- I have the same larynx problem like darling, super talented Julie Andrews- its not only painful and very uncomfortable - one loosing their voice is also dreadfully depressing, she is so graceful, thank you-
It's true! It's true! The Crown has made it clear: Julie Andrews is practically perfect in every way! Among my personal favorites of hers were: THE AMERICANIZATION OF EMILY, TORN CURTAIN, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, HAWAII, DARLING LILI and VICTOR, VICTORIA.
She's such a wonderful lady. This recent movie is probably about as good as we may expect from Hollywood nowadays. What a difference from her classic era. We don't have the writers or audiences today. We've lost taste, quality, and sensibilities seen in that era of post WWII sacrificial Americans.
Hi Julie and others; I think my post card to Mr. Plummer might have been the catalyst to change his mind about participating in any events related to the "sacchariny sweet" SOM! Many years ago, I was so distressed to read his comments, and learn he avoided anything having to do with the movie, that I wrote to him in "care of" the New York theater he was at the time headlining. What did I write? I wrote him that for kids like myself, TSOM was a welcome relief, and retreat from, traumatic home situations. And much like vets of wars that saw real combat didn't like to see or discuss things related, same for us. We craved sweetness! We craved what TSOM offered. It was joy! It was happiness! It wss beautiful. Not long after sending my postcard I read of his change of heart, and that he began events and things related to the movie. Just to think that perhaps a nobody like me, might have been instrumental in changing this great actor's mind, (which surely made us all fans of the movie very happy!) thrills my soul!
A superb interview. Parky always let the guests actually speak, unlike Graham Norton and others these days. I could listen to Julie Andrews for hours...
As humans, in time, "EVERYTHING FAILS" we fade away, dear old Michael passed away, and i miss him and many others so much (I know well meet again one day) Also, as of oct 28th 2024 google tells me that Julie Andrews is still alive, its my hearts desire that she should live forever..for obvious reasons, hills being alive etc x
Good to know she's still active and creative! For a singer, damaged vocal cords are a career ender, and it's good to know she is exploring other avenues for her talents and skills!
Credit where credit is due ... this is the lady who - as Clive James remarked, by simply running down a Swiss mountainside singing "The hills are alive...with the sound of music" managed to bring the entire Third Reich to its knees.... Looking back though, she was fantastic - a gorgeous and utterly charming and lovable lady.
With a healthy lifestyle, you can live at old age without having heart disease, cancer, Dementia. 20 years ago, i heard a woman that drank alcohol every day, she ended dying from breast cancer at 64.
I was never a fan of either The Sound of Music or Mary Poppins and Julie Andrews felt a bit bored with her image of purity (she once sported a badge that said 'Mary Poppins is a junkie'). But she's a straightforward, interesting woman and I admire her.
No kidding.!! Boring ❓ _N_O_T_ ‼️ An ICON ‼️ ❤ Julie Andrews! She has a wonderful sense of HUMOUR - you can actually see it dance in her eyes. She has incredible ENERGY and IS A ONE OF A KIND GENIUS on stage 🩷 ‼️
