    In this tutorial we cover the process of creating a simple hand mold using one of our new 5"x12" mold tubes. This is a great, easy way to make prop hands fast. As mentioned in the video, here are the products we used:

    Great video, definitely a nice quick way to mold an arm

    Always nice to see more videos! Also, if I want to get a poseable cast, would embedding a wire armature work? or the silicone might be too thick for it to properly bend?

      @bitymoldsupply  6 лет назад +13

      You could do that with a Gel-10 hand, Gel-OO hand, or a Gel-25 hand that has been "deadened."

    How would you trim it if any bubbles on the hands, just a sharp knife?

    • @bitymoldsupply
      @bitymoldsupply  6 лет назад +6

      An Xacto knofe works well for trimming air bubbles.

    You mentioned if you wait too long between the mold and the cast, that the alginate will shrink and distort. Would pouring a cast, and just leaving it prevent this? Would you be able to remove the cast at a later time and retain the mold's form?

    • @bitymoldsupply
      @bitymoldsupply  4 месяца назад +2

      Pouring a cast will help a little, but the alginate will start drying out regardless of what is inside the mold. Best to do you casting fast for accurate results. Now, I have used the same mold over a dozen times to cast fast setting silicone and the last pull was noticeably smaller than the first.

      Yes. Alginate can be used to mold all parts of the body.

    Would you be able to post a current price for all your supplies so we each know if this is even in our budget? I don't imagine you used $500 in product but I don't have any idea otherwise.

    • @bitymoldsupply
      @bitymoldsupply  6 лет назад +31

      A lot of pricing will be specific to a given cast, but here's the breakdown for what we did here: Genesis V ~$16, Mold tube: ~$9, Gel-25 $28, Pigment ~$.50. All of those prices fluctuate based on the amount of material you purchase so these numbers are probably on the high end, purchasing in small quantities.

      Not the alginate, but we have several silicones for that. Try 5110 or 5130. Both are well suited for soap and candle making.

  • @coryjamescooper
    @coryjamescooper 6 лет назад +69

    Do not throw that away, it's a waste.
    Instead, chop it up into smaller chunks. Next time you pour an algenite, use the bigger chunks along side the liquid so you don't have to use as much liquid.

    • @bitymoldsupply
      @bitymoldsupply  6 лет назад +41

      Alginate, once dried out, would cause distortion problems if added to fresh alginate as it would pull moisture from the fresh alginate causing it to warp. :(
