Peter Brown hi peter brown, I’m not saying something mean but you should make more lathe videos because I need help making bowls and using a 4 jaw chuck
i remember when this channel had like 1000 subs, i was obsessed with this channel, its great to see how far its grown and that you have co-labbed with other you tubers and you seem to be enjoying making projects more than you did 2 years ago. congrats on the growth Bob you deserve it
Oh yeah! I remember that making of video!! Totally forgot about that. I was at the EMP in Seattle recently and they had one of the zombie costumes from Thriller on display :) It was weird but I immediately knew what it was when I saw it.
The same guy, Bill, just did an episode with the modern rogue on this too and they go into a lot of detail in real time which was also pretty awesome! Great video
My description of what's happening: "First, we're going to make you into an alien, then a mummy. Then once you molt your alien and mummy skin, we're going to fill it with foam and pick clay boogers out of your nose."
Back in grade school, one of the other home room classes made plaster molds of their heads for art class. They used lengths of drinking straws to ensure unblocked breathing passages when the nose area was covered.
That's great. I have been wanting to make a casting of my head for a while and this seems like the way to go. I have zero experience doing anything like this, but I've never let lack of experience get in the way of progress. It shall be done! Thanks for the great vid.
Hey Bob, love the video(s). I was lucky enough to have a special effects company make a lifecast of my gigantic knoggin. Reason being that any mask they sculpted on it would fit anyone. I got a pull from the cast and it's been useful for everything from sculpting an Alien face hugger to stretching out a leather tricorn pirate hat. Unfortunately, during the casting, someone in the shop farted while I was constrained to only breathing through one nostril, which made the experience a bit traumatic. Only someone who has been through it can appreciate how vulnerable one is.
I was a bit concerned, but it ended up not being too bad. I just tried to control my breathing and I knew that at any moment I could reach up and rip it off if I really got in trouble.
+I Like To Make Stuff - Of course, but being claustrophobic I don't think I could ever do such thing. But yes, I can agree it really comes down to trying to handle it.
Rip But in all seriousness, most people establish a signal that the person being casted can do to alert everyone else that something's wrong. Then they can pull off the cast
Hey bob, i really like your videos since i'm into design myself. I'm just wondering if you'll be doing electronic projects with explanations for each component as i am struggling with electronics myself and what they are used for. It would be nice to see you use the overhead camera in your electronics station too. Thanks
hey i'm trying to make a horror shortfilm. after all the silicone is dryed up, can you still put silicone on it, to make tentacles and stuff? much obliged
Thanks for posting. Great guide! Added tip: to avoid getting eyelashes pulled out, coat them with petrolium jelly before you cover them in the silicone material.
Six degrees of separation really is a thing isn't it? I'm a follower of Tested content. I have been following them for years, was one of the original subscribers to the website when they were with Whiskey Media (Giant Bomb, Screened, Anime Vice and Comic Vine) and continued to support them when they were purchased by BermanBraun and finally when Adam Savage was introduced to the team. A few months ago RUclips suggested I check out a video on how to make an arcade cabinet. I checked the video and was impressed enough by the content that I subscribed and that's how I became a subscriber here. For Tested.com to be mentioned here due to the association of Bill Doran and his relationship with the site really was quite surprising. Small world lol. Keep up the good work!
I came here looking to be that guy who points out all the things you did wrong and was utterly heartbroken when I heard Bill was doing the cast XD. He definitely knows what he's doing!!
I really did have the best intentions I swear =D. Sometimes you see people doing life casts that promote techniques that are just so incredibly wrong and dangerous which is especial worrying with an audience as large as yours. Ive seen way too many people stuck inside plaster life casts sometimes with bandages not even made for moulding XD.
They Always should use a acrylic colorant mixed in with the petroleum jelly so it´s more able to see were you smeared it and how far maximum the edge on the front can cover the back cast
I would lose my mind being inside that thing for such a long time.. Legit panic attack.
How on earth did you handle it?
+Cabanaz theres a thing called claustrophobia wich is the fear of a confined space, it can lead to really bad anxiety and panic attacks.
Cabanaz wow proud of you kid very mature (clap, clap) youre so wise and mature, your mom must be proud.
Foxuniverso Their point was proven by you saying that :/
I had a tissue face mask once...
I freaked out and sucked up my nose
Eco you need to trust the person doing it
This was a great recap of what we did there! I know I came in half-way, but, VERY thankful that I got the chance to help since I learned A LOT.
***** wait, wait... ONE OF US. ONE OF US.
"recap" I see what you did there.
3D Printing Nerd
Re-cap.
hi
i had to make sure i wasn't watching make anything // 3d printing channel
I can totally see people trying to do this at home and forgetting to put air holes.
Natural selection, my friends
+Camerafart Ethan haha
B Cook I
B Cook all they need is straws to make it work on a lazy budget
Ben mitchell thats a bad idea
That was fascinating.
I love your channel
that was super cool. Thanks for sharing the process with us!
I love your channel
you have an awesome channel! subscribed awhile ago
Peter Brown hi peter brown, I’m not saying something mean but you should make more lathe videos because I need help making bowls and using a 4 jaw chuck
Peter Brown g
What I learned from this video:
1) How to make a cast of someone's head.
2) Get Bill Doran to do it
+Punished Props solid plan, but floppy face mask😅😅
+Punished Props Hey Bill, sounds like a plan. I live in England, when are you next popping over...?
kathmonkey me too
kathmonkey Also that he's making sure we can breathe 👌
they mixed up several cups
Oh gosh watching this gave me serious heart palpitations! Even if my nose were left clear I think I would still go into such a panic!:')
Same becouse no matter how healthy I am even sence chemo i get random times where i cant breeth though my nose
Yeah I would NOT be down for this. Lol.
wao
Same. This is my nightmare!
very true, i cant imagine how inside the mold
my toxic trait is thinking i could do this by myself
You can! Go get it!!!
i remember when this channel had like 1000 subs, i was obsessed with this channel, its great to see how far its grown and that you have co-labbed with other you tubers and you seem to be enjoying making projects more than you did 2 years ago. congrats on the growth Bob you deserve it
the best head casting technique ive ever seen so far, congratulations!
That would freak me out. I don't know if I could hang in there for an entire hour.
This brought me back to my "The Making of Thriller" VHS.
Fun video! (Yours and Micheal Jackson's)
Oh yeah! I remember that making of video!! Totally forgot about that. I was at the EMP in Seattle recently and they had one of the zombie costumes from Thriller on display :) It was weird but I immediately knew what it was when I saw it.
Nice...I would have thrown it on and busted out the dance!
The same guy, Bill, just did an episode with the modern rogue on this too and they go into a lot of detail in real time which was also pretty awesome! Great video
Very cool! We at Distortions wish you the best with your tutorial series! Keep up the good work!
Great video! Thanks for sharing. Bill did a great job with that mold!
Thanks!
How much smooth on would it take to do this? I'm looking at doing this but don't know quantities I'd need.
This was unbelievable. I had to watch it twice! I'm very impressed with all the things we can make & build :)
Bill is pretty awesome at what he does, for sure. Did he stream it? Gonna have to check the vods.
He didn't stream it unfortunately.
That is a level of trust I don't have with many people. Bravo!
My description of what's happening: "First, we're going to make you into an alien, then a mummy. Then once you molt your alien and mummy skin, we're going to fill it with foam and pick clay boogers out of your nose."
Glam Cam 😂
xD
the description of this video in less than 60 words
seeing the inside of a mold like that gives me the shivers!
watching this makes the claustrophobic
I'd be freaked out if I had that done to me... but I'm glad you said it wasn't too bad. Great video! I can't wait to see what you do with the mold.
Awesome Bob! Props on staying still for that long!
Brilliant... Bobs channel just keeps getting better. Well done!
Am I the only one that's thinking about pistachio ice cream after watching this?
Yes.
no
I am now!
Well now I am
Thumbs up for holding yourself together during the covering of your face without panicking.
That looks TERRIFYING!
Yes
Anyone else get sweaty hands watching this?! Claustrophobia alert 😩
me
is it? I usually get sweaty hands when I'm running. Must have runnophobia... :(
+Denasdc Stasibasiphobia
sam kelly : a mental health condition in which a person is convinced that walking or standing is physically impossible
no...
Denasdc The closest thing, there is no fear of running
Awesome technique!
Cool stuff. That would freak me out though. I don't know that I could handle being covered like that for so long.
This is really cool. Cant wait to see your helmet build.
Cool video, your patience is extraordinary!
Great video.
Thanks Ted!
Yes it was!
Such a great team. Awesome job!
Really cool! :D
Used to do this a lot for my study. Awesome explanation and video. Good luck with casting Rob!
I would probably freak out midway the process.
André Fontes Same
Super cool video! It's always fun to see what kind of things you make and do. You're giving me plenty ideas for projects!
Am i the only one who have difficulties to breath watching this???😂😳😁
Nope
Nope same
No im not breathing right no jk
Nope
Yay ! Another vid with Bill !
That was cool. Kinda creepy looking when they pulled off the one layer and the green layer was still there haha. Good stuff Bob!
Back in grade school, one of the other home room classes made plaster molds of their heads for art class. They used lengths of drinking straws to ensure unblocked breathing passages when the nose area was covered.
This is why we need 3D scanning and printing haha
ayyyy one million subscribers!!!
I think I have everyone featured in this video in my subscription. 😂 Love this video, very informative!
That's great. I have been wanting to make a casting of my head for a while and this seems like the way to go. I have zero experience doing anything like this, but I've never let lack of experience get in the way of progress. It shall be done! Thanks for the great vid.
Did you end up doing it? How’d it go?
Hey Bob, love the video(s). I was lucky enough to have a special effects company make a lifecast of my gigantic knoggin. Reason being that any mask they sculpted on it would fit anyone. I got a pull from the cast and it's been useful for everything from sculpting an Alien face hugger to stretching out a leather tricorn pirate hat. OMFG A COLAB BETWEEN MY FAVORITE BUILDING GENRE RUclipsRS
What if you want to use the bathroom?
Isabella Gonzalez just piss yourself
Diaper?
Do you pee from your face?
It's not that long. It's like 30 to 40 minutes.
Richard W idk
Such a reminder of the time I had my head molded and cast. Hope your head work goes well!
I don't think I'd ever survive this.. but hey, this is very cool.
I felt like I couldn't breath just watching this. Good work on not passing out.
Who else tried to swallow without moving your jaw
Art is Art. 0:12
I was freaking out watching you in the mold.
That was Super cool Bob!
What if you had a cold and a blocked nose on the day you would do the life casting
Rip
But in all seriousness, most people establish a signal that the person being casted can do to alert everyone else that something's wrong. Then they can pull off the cast
Best cast vid I've ever seen
this looks slightly terrifying
This was 5 years ago, but this is very cool
Another way to keep the nose clear is to put straws in, this is how my costume design teacher does it
The only issue with that method is it distorts the shape of the nostrils
and if a straw is knocked it can damage the inside of your nose and do some pretty major damage
That would not work fornme becouse even when im healthy ever sense chemo i get random runny noses
Is it just me or the colour of the mould looks dang satisfying...
i will go crazy if you reply:)
GO CRAZY! :)

hey i'm trying to make a horror shortfilm. after all the silicone is dryed up, can you still put silicone on it, to make tentacles and stuff? much obliged
oh wait, im getting a head of myself hahaha. its the mold
Pro tip for people doing this at home, nose straws go a long way
Thanks for posting. Great guide! Added tip: to avoid getting eyelashes pulled out, coat them with petrolium jelly before you cover them in the silicone material.
4:12 He kinda looks like Voldemort just white instead of grey
Haarrryyyyy Pooooottttteeeerrrrrrr........

Yeah, it really is! I know a few of the people at Tested, hopefully we'll get to work on something together one of these days!
you got mummified!!😅😅
Cool stuff. Have you ever thought about making a 3D sandbox?
It's a mummy
my mummy is sitting next to me
ok
Been looking to silicone cast a couple of sculpts I made - this really helped.
He looks so happy!!
Can I please get the materials you used to cast the human head
Hey its bill! I love both of your channels dudes! Keep up the good work!
Why not use a couple tubes to keep the nose open
I really love your video. especially the king sized bed with storage
i dont know why but i like to listen more in your voice than watching you doing your stuff 😂
Just what the world needs more Bob clones. lol This was pretty cool. Like to see how this all turns out.
Super cool man. Glad it worked out so well!
No way! Joel was in the video! Two of my favorite youtubers had a video together!
Joel is awesome!
Good stuff Bob, Bill, et al. I watched the Twitch stream and am looking forward to the final casting!
Aww i love how reassuring he is
Damn I just realized that you've gained 811K subs since I subscribed. Congrats on reaching 800+K subs and I hope to see you at a million soon

Great video. The foam head would make for a cool Halloween head on a platter decoration project.
I was subscribed to 'The 3D Printing Nerd' and 'Punished Props' Before you.
sooooo
this is kinda cool
Right on! Those guys are all fantastic!
Awesome! No idea how you will use it to make a helmet, but I have a feeling we will find out.
Anyone else get excited when this popped up in their feed
that was freaking awesome!!!
That was freaking awesome!
They Always should use a acrylic colorant mixed in with the petroleum jelly so it´s more able to see were you smeared it and how far maximum the edge on the front can cover the back cast
I have had a cast of my face done with plaster of Paris back in the early '70's. How materials have changed since then.
Question: did your eyes hurt when you did the silicone and the plaster bandages?
