I've been seeing lots of comments like "oh, I could do it too if I had an expensive 3d printer". There are other options. Not all 3d printers are expensive, but If you wanted it printed you could use a service like 3dhubs or shapeways or even find a local makerspace. Also, it's basically a tube so you could try pvc pipe as a base, then add details on top. I would challenge you to use what you have to make stuff you want. You can do it!!

believe me, you'd know long before watching a youtube video if you were colour blind. take it from me, as a little girl in school who got loads of comments and backlash when I coloured the ocean purple.
I really like seeing your reaction to it too. You should do more first impressions like that on camera to builds like this one. For builds that could work or fail you know? I would really like to see that.
Dude this reminds me when i was a kid, i mean i have always love to do things, and in my childhood i was so much crazy about making stuff, I used to make swords, guns, space ships, buildings, houses even cities, everything i wanted using only what i could find, I build my own lightsaber using aluminium paper, I did luke saber and i was so much obsessed with all the little details.
The joy on your face when that lit up! Made me so happy that you were happy! I have a hilt that I made last summer which has been just a decoration... until now. This video has for sure inspired me to fit it with all the electronics and make it look great! Probably the only thing I would add would be a quick disconnect between the blade and the hilt that way its easily portable and I can still have it as a decoration without the blade. Overall this was awesome and made my Star Wars day that much better!
Hey man great project, small tip for you when going for a metallic spray finish the coat before should be a gloss black as it really adds to the shiny metallic finish 👍
Man, you're awesome! I loved your face when turning it on fully assembled for the first time, a dream come true. Congratulations on your great work and passion!
I know this comment is really late but some trivia for ya. The long lines that run up from the bottom of the handle were originally windshield wiper blades.
Looking back, I really saw the pure joy and excitement radiated all over your face when you finally succeeded in the project. Congrats and really nice job!
OK...yet you can get something done. I can't do diddly squat with Fusion 360. I just don't get it. I've tried to use their tutorials, but it's like "well, since you're an expert at Solidworks you just need to know the differences". UGH. I have so many ideas in my head of things I want/need to build and I want plans...I'm better off getting my old drafting equipment out and scratching some lines right now.
It really is a learning process. I've been at it for about a month and can tell you that it even people who get down routines can have issues, you just need to work through them and you'll get there.
he is definitely not a pro! but as you can see he knows enough to get it done and thats all that matters. CAD is hard but you can work your way through if you have the patience. great Job, Bob!
So, how's the battery life? Reading up specs for a 144LED/m WS2812B strip, I found that it will use 43.2W/meter. That's 8.6A current. That's probably peak current with everything at full brightness, but I suspect 4 x AA NiMH cells are not going to last very long. I'm working on something similar and planning to use a 18650 LiIon cell for power. In my project, I estimate the peak power draw will be about 20W (65 cm long strip / 3.7V supply). Last year I built a prop that had 24 WS2812Bs, an Adafruit Trinket (3.3V) and it was powered using a single 10440. The LED strip is rated for 5V, but will work fine with a slightly lower voltage. The lights were almost never at full power, so battery life was around 10 hours.
I've been looking for a good lightsaber soundboard, and this is an amazing idea, I can't wait to get a teensy and finish my lightsaber I've been working on for a while. I know it's late, but thank you for mak8ng this video!

I've been trying to follow this tutorial for a week, and I'm completely at a halt! I'm using all the same boards and hardware, just a different LED Strip (WS2812b). They work fine with the PropShield using other codes using FastLED, but the Adafruit Dotstar in your code will not do anything with these strips. I have ZERO skill in coding Arduino or anything for that matter, so I'm not sure where else to go from here!
