"of all the technology you see, perhaps the most fascinating is the lightsaber" Or more like the gigantic spaceships traveling faster than light, speeding up and slowing down in seconds. Or a giant space station capable of destroying planets. But yeah, the laser sticks are awesome too :)
The Star Wars Dictionary actually explains it as energy being channeled to a primary crystal and then through a series of focussing crystals. The reason that only Jedi and Sith can make them is that building a lightsaber is one of the most difficult (and mandatory) tasks for Jedi and Sith initiates to accomplish as the focussing crystals must be perfectly aligned (which tests true Force sensitivity). Even the slightest misalignment of the focussing crystals will cause the weapon to detonate upon activation. This is why Vadar was so impressed with Luke in ROTJ when he saw his lightsaber ("I see you have constructed a new lightsaber...your skills are now complete...indeed you are powerful as the Emperor has foreseen") - he knew that Luke was indeed ready and capable of defeating the Emperor. Despite what most new Star Wars fans think (thanks To Disney I believe) the color of the lightsaber blade was determined by the color of the crystals used. Traditionally the Jedi used blue and green and the Sith used red. The Dictionary is so old now but it covers the equipment in the original trilogy nicely and it was before Disney screwed everything up. Cool video though and nice animation.
Well kyber Crystal are colour less until it bonds with a force user and the reason that with users have red crystals is because they make the crystal “bleed”. Usually when a Jedi and Crystal bond they act as one, however the sith make it red and instead forcing the Crystal to obey them against their will
My grandfather gave me a kyber crystal before he died. I watched this video to learn how to make a lightsaber. It works just as well as the legends! I almost cut a service droid in half by accident but it was still a very exciting experience. This video is awesome, thank you! 👌👌👍🔥
Only a jedi or other force using person can build a lightsaber. This is because the focusing crystal can't be aligned until the everything is in place so you need the force to manipulate it.
Reminds Me of one time in Physics class when I asked the teacher why the armature in a motor assembly doesn't just fall into thin air and then a guy told Me *"Use The Force."*
I have a book all on the lightsabers and I was fascinated by how detailed it was. It even showcased the lightsabers of the characters and who they beloneged to. The first Lightsaber you show us is Obi Wan's very first Lightsaber from "The Phantom Menace".
S0lidSpy24 Are you also taking Quantum physics or Quantum mechanics along with Physics4D in College? If you are then there's a good chance of not a possibly to make a real working lightsaber by using real life components that are similar to what you saw in this tutorial video.
Everyone can fire a lightsaber up. The difference is that a Jedi/Sith can actually use it without killing himself/herself in the process. A Force user can foresee the immediate future so he/she can predict where the blade is going/will land. A normal person would likely chop his/her arms off.
You know I always thought of it this way as well. I think of the lightsaber as a small version of the same technology they use in Star Wars for ray/battlefield shields. If you think about it, this makes perfect sense. We see when they use large battlefield shield generators in Star wars how the plasma shield raises in a thin line of plasma from a shield generator and then creates a dome over the protected area. If you took this same technology and used it on a lightsaber but had the energy turned up so the stream of plasma shot up higher it would raise the celling of the half dome shield (while keeping the same small diameter) it would stretch the shield into a tall rod with a point when the shield bends over the thin plasma line being shot up to produce it. This idea is confirmed by the fact that there is nob on light sabers to increase and decrease the total length of the blade. Also in Star Wars Clone wars they discuss the shield technology and talk about how it can be tuned so slow objects can pass through it or turned all the way up to produce a ray shield that not even slow objects can pass through, i.e. a lightsaber blade. I really thought of this after seeing an episode of Clone Wars where someone was going to be executed using a ray shield like guillotine that would chop off the person's head.
Tom Barnes It’s meant to be accelerated electrons contained in an oppositely charged sort of invisible shell. A bit like how an atom works. Basically we need to modify the large hadron collider and try and fit it in a lightsaber handle. This may take some time....
As a designer, this is pretty cool and useful for me. Understanding the inner workings of the lightsaber is going to help me design better broken versions for the shelf, thank you.
Where did you get the idea that lightsabers use two crystals? Every iteration of Star Wars I've seen where a Padawan goes into the crystal caves to find their crystal, they only have one. It's not likely they break them in two, so where do they get the second crystal from?
John Sedivec some diagrams of the light saber show a second crystal as a common focusing crystal that helps in stabilizing the blade when ignited. However newer canon retconed the need for a focus crystal.
John Sedivec in some of the games there are two crystals. Probably where that idea came in. However I think in Star Wars Galaxies...which was a pc game from Lucas arts the crystals were said to be that way in the saber you built in there as well.
Just a very rough theory: With a high voltage self-recharging battery, you could build a light saber - take a look at laser pointers. Same principle, even with different colors. Emegamez Darth Maul has a unique lightsaber: both ends of the lightsaber can be used individually and even if the staff is broken in half. Darth Mauls lightsaber is also dual-phase because he uses one or both ends during combat and their are different lengths to the blade depending on how he’s using it
Emegamez most single bladed sabers have 1 crystal unless it’s dual-phase then it has 2. Double blades lightsabers can have 2 or 4 depending on if each saber head can be used individually or if it’s only double sided
@Zion Trask Putting aside the debate(s) about the lightsaber itself for a moment, I agree wholeheartedly with your statement. The lightsaber is a melee weapon and not very good at all, except at very short range; hence the continued use of more conventional weapons.
The original movie "a new hope" Known as just star wars at the time, was made in 1977. the first move chronologicly titled "the phantom menace" wasn't released until much later, in 1999. k?
Kevin Lee In the new canon red crystals are not synthetic but natural crystals that were infused and corrupted by the the dark side (=bleeding) and changed their colour into crimson red. Ahsoka managed to reverse this process, freeing a red crystal from the dark side making it turn white. So this explains how red and white crystals are created and I really like this change.
Lightsabers usually have 2 crystals? I thought that they usually only had 1, and 2 crystal installation was reserved for special cases like a double-blade, dual-phase, or changing color/power output (Force Unleashed novel, Galen combined a green crystal with fragments of a blue one).

You know I always thought of it this way as well. I think of the lightsaber as a small version of the same technology they use in Star Wars for ray/battlefield shields.

The way he explained is like we have real light sabers in our real life
Thought he was going to say "the star wars universe is filled with amazing shit"
"Amazing shit, weapons and machinery."
I thought the first lightsaber we see is from obi wan kenobi and his master during negotiation
The original movie "a new hope" Known as just star wars at the time, was made in 1977. the first move chronologicly
titled "the phantom menace" wasn't released until much later, in 1999. k?
@@cloudtirones you don't have to be born in the past to know history
"We can't make this IRL"
Hacksmith: Try me
Seems very realistic! To bad it's not real. Perhaps the tech some day may be applied to something everyone can use.
Christofer Riche the general public does not need real working lightsabers!..
War Beast : perhaps! Still a very cool idea though!
George Lucas would like to know your location.
🤣
Jared: This is Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber.
Anakin Skywalker: Am i a joke to you?
Thank you very much for making this awesome video.
Shouldn't the Sith use Darksabers instead of Lightsaber?
That would definitely make sense :)
Siths lightsabers turn red because the crystal bled red... Darksabers are completely different.. that's ANOTHER story..
There is only one darksaber
Kevin Lee
In the new canon red crystals are not synthetic but natural crystals that were infused and corrupted by the the dark side (=bleeding) and changed their colour into crimson red. Ahsoka managed to reverse this process, freeing a red crystal from the dark side making it turn white.
So this explains how red and white crystals are created and I really like this change.
The darksaber's on Dathomir as shown in Rebels
I got this on my recommended lmao
Declaw gamer me too
So interesting!
I'm a huge fan of star wars and I love it!
Can someone count the amount of times he says “energy”?
Jared: its not possible to build one of them
The Hacksmith: hold my beer!.....
😋 I just saw Hacksmith's video - very cool stuff
@@JaredOwen true, he is a really awsome dude
Lightsabers usually have 2 crystals? I thought that they usually only had 1, and 2 crystal installation was reserved for special cases like a double-blade, dual-phase, or changing color/power output (Force Unleashed novel, Galen combined a green crystal with fragments of a blue one).
He literally got the color wrong on a Akins saber, I’m done
That’s not Luke’s that’s originally Anakins saber but with a green kyber Crystal
this is the most delicious course of wordsalad i've ever had, thank you!
My wife's one takes 4xAA batteries, vibrates & makes her scream.
That wasn't a light saber...
Luke's first lightsaber is blue, not green.
Jacob Redfield wasn't it green in training mode in the falcon though?
Romain Joubert no
It is green dumbass the blue one is not hes lightsaber it is anakin’s/dad of luke it was made by anakin and it Will always be hes lightsaber
He built it dude plus the blue is anakin's lightsaber
wow BLENDER USER!!! your works are so great!! now I really learn a lot on your videos thank you so much for sharing this knowledge
