Very helpful tutorial. I hate the idea of buying a cheap lightsaber or ordering a custom one. Because every Jedi builds they're own lightsaber. And the force guides them to build the perfect lightsaber for them. So I think it would be cooler to build my own in my style. And this is quite helpful.

brianr101010: I made the same remark out loud at my iPad when he said that in the video as well! What was used is a 3-cell Graflex flashgun, that you would commonly see being used by NEWS photographers in or around the 1940’s. The cameras in question, the flashgun was the long, vertical and cylindrical tube that most photographers would grasp with their right hand in holding the camera!
Cosplayers and hardcore Star Wars fanatics still poach graflexes to make authentic prop lightsaber replicas from the flashgun. As a person that appreciates and owns several antique cameras, I am upset that prices for antique graflexes have spiked due to the poaching of the flashguns to make authentic props. They don't make analog cameras as good as they did in the 1940's, and fans ruin it without thinking they could use alternatives like the tutorial in this video to make a replica without destroying antique photo equipment.
I have replica "Darth Vader" and "Anakin/Luke" lightsabers. And have always wondered why a "weapon" from "a long time ago in a galaxy far far away" has letters and numbers from European speaking people on them.. This is what I Googled. .. "Luke's was built from the flash attachment of a Graflex 3 cell unit, while Vader's was made from a different flash attachment - a British 3-cell MPP Microflash.. I'm sure Odin knows the orginal Skywalker lightsaber was made from an old Graflex. He was implying using found parts, especially from the hardware store is very much in the spirit of the orginal prop builders. I've heard that the orginal prop cost less than 15 dollars in raw materials at the time of its building.
What do you think the Graflex flash was made from? Odin never said it's exactly the way Vader's saber was made. He said, "very much the same way". Get over yourself.
I used a sound board from an old lightsaber toy. be careful though the wiring is thin and easily breakable but was able to make it work and I now have a black lightsaber blade.
Is there a video of pic of this? Would love to see yours just if anything to see how the blade looks.

Guys in 2000 had figured that out, just thinking they were plastic and not rubber. Interesting how a lot of Star Wars prop knowledge came from forum boards back in the late 90s from movie screenshots, publicity photos, and so on.
That, old ambulances, and a certain oblong knob. Greedy dicks are greedy, considering camera flashes like those used in the movies are basically worthless..
Another great video. Quick question, would there be any problem taking the sound board out of a light saber toy? I found one on Amazon for $16 that (apparently) detects motion and collision and has the built in speaker. Does this sound like a viable option for those of us on a budget?
It work. You could also use a DIYino board. forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=393174.0 It's 66€ but the possibility are awesome. At the level of the 300+ custom saber you can find on the net.
I've tried that with those $3 wall mart light sabers. You have to be careful cause the wiring is pretty brittle, so it's easy to break. But, if you keep it intact it would be easy to fit a soundboard from a toy saber into this
I used to have a light saber kit and the pieces were plastic but the light and sound effects were the same as what you used. Even the see through pipe for the light and even the decorative peaces was the same. I really liked that you made it easy. 👍🏻
Easy; hold the blade parallel to your eyesight and obstruct your view of the shooter's blaster. Adjust accordingly and don't flinch. Not 100% but you'll hit a few :)
Darth Vader's lightsaber.. Luke's was built from the flash attachment of a Graflex 3 cell unit, while Vader's was made from a different flash attachment - one from a British 3-cell MPP Microflash.. It wasnt built from scratch..
Odin Makes i have to say, it's really awesome that Brittani is working with you on this. Most videos like this usually have the builder and the host doing nothing but ask questions (which is still helpful). To see you walk Brittani through everything while having her help was awesome. And she did great! Great build, you two!
Hey, very nice and neat build, it just left me with two Questions. 1. Is the 1" Polycarbonate tubing "Battleready". 2. Which Soundboard did you use (the Dimensions seem to fit really nice). thx in advance
1: Yes, Polycarbonate tube will not shatter, and basically will not break. It is the same plastic safety glasses are made from, and it is a used in bulletproof glass (there is more to bulletproof than just polycarb, but it's a major ingredient.) If you force it (pun) it will bend and get white stress marks, but breaking it is really tough to do. 2: We used the Obsidian sound board. it is made to fit in a saber hilt or even a blaster grip.
No! Not at all with these blades- never like the toys do. The fun thing that these blades will do is that little piece will come of the end, and the plastic diffuser will fly out. It looks like that 'snake in a can' joke! If you watch the preview for The Force is Strong, it right here on Beyond Geek, that is the saber Brittni is using on the Death Star set. And the same tube is what all of the sabers are using.
Odin Makes Ah ok, that's great. I have an old ForceFX Count Doku Saber here and I really like the On/Off Animation but this thing feels just... not right for me with this Huge handle. So I thought for a long time ago (in a galaxy far away) to get a different one but ordering a custom build is not really my style, so after stumbling over your Builds (My wife says "thanks" for showing me that nothing reusable needs to go the trash ;) ) I really can start to build "my" Saber.

That, old ambulances, and a certain oblong knob. Greedy dicks are greedy, considering camera flashes like those used in the movies are basically worthless..
Royce Bracket
Yup. Supply and demand.
Hey it's Odin!
yeah same
Another great video. Quick question, would there be any problem taking the sound board out of a light saber toy? I found one on Amazon for $16 that (apparently) detects motion and collision and has the built in speaker. Does this sound like a viable option for those of us on a budget?
I had some sabers that did that from years ago and they were probably the same as the one you found. I believe it would work, but i am not 100% sure.
I've heard of people doing it and they said it worked. It would be a great way to make this same type of lightsaber for less than $70!
But, if you keep it intact it would be easy to fit a soundboard from a toy saber into this
Well if you're good at soldering I'm sure you could rewire it with thicker gauge stuff.
I want this man as my teacher, he's doing God's work!
Having this more shinny than the rest
***yeah, I love that***
I filled a glass of coke and took a sip every time she said ok...
almost 7 minutes in I finished the glass...
Home depot is ilum in real life
Its basically where we get stuff to build a lightsaber
This will make a fine addition to my collection... *laughs in Grievous*
Awesome! Glad I went on RUclips before checking out on my saberforge tab.
I used to have a light saber kit and the pieces were plastic but the light and sound effects were the same as what you used. Even the see through pipe for the light and even the decorative peaces was the same. I really liked that you made it easy. 👍🏻
Now we just need to learn how to deflect nerf darts! This is so awesome!
Easy; hold the blade parallel to your eyesight and obstruct your view of the shooter's blaster. Adjust accordingly and don't flinch. Not 100% but you'll hit a few :)
Brittni reminds me of the actress Renee O'Connor from the TV series Xena Warrior Princess.
"How do I heat it up?"
" you just touch it with the...tip".......Giggity!
Turned out great!
this is the tutorial i was looking for to make a blade, every detail and technique to make a nice one was explained! thanks a bunch!
You are welcome!
But this...is how oden makes. :)
“It’s very similar to the way Vader’s Light Saber was built”... I had no clue Vader’s light saber was made out of wind shield wiper blades.... wow
Darth Vader's lightsaber..
Luke's was built from the flash attachment of a Graflex 3 cell unit, while Vader's was made from a different flash attachment - one from a British 3-cell MPP Microflash.. It wasnt built from scratch..
@@sirgalah561 It's about the T-Grips, both Luke's and Vader's lightsabers have them, and they say in the video they were windshield wipers.
First!!!!
Odin Makes HAhahahahah came here just for you
Odin Makes you're the man Odin
There are many ways to make a top comment, but this is how Odin makes.
Jaime Enrique - Ah, ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!
Odin Makes i have to say, it's really awesome that Brittani is working with you on this. Most videos like this usually have the builder and the host doing nothing but ask questions (which is still helpful). To see you walk Brittani through everything while having her help was awesome. And she did great! Great build, you two!
A fine addition to my collection!
He seems so nice. great teacher.
I want one in purple... Like Mace Windu
Love this build, but where were the aluminum tubes purchased? I'm having trouble finding those dimensions
At a hardware store
Odin Makes Thanks for the answer, so no worries about Saber Smashbuckling :)
Well according to my muscular back and girlfriend's teenage son... polycarbonate will definitely break.
Dude my guy Odin is a very intelligent gentleman
The most perfect I have seen....
