312vandal Well that doesn't mean that every of their show would succeed. The making/diy community is getting more and more bigger so they're are definitely trying to catch a trend here. Plus the production value is amazing, most of diy videos isn't that well produced. That means besides the 9 million subscribes they have this show has a potential to crab audience outside of their normal viewers.
Something more in the direction of the TESTED one day builds. This quick spotlight is nice but a more in depth thing would be great. They are making is anyway so just recoding some more dialog will barely take up more time. The extra parts don't need fancy overlays or animations, just someone who knows what he is doing explaining things to an apprentice.
TheDragonaf1 I know right? I was kinda laughing at the fact they were calling it an 'off the shelf lightsaber', as if it's some cheap thing you can get at your local toystore. That couldn't be further from the truth.
Solarstar10 the one they used is under 100$ so a bit pricier then the kid ones but not overly expensive if you want a good saber base, you can do this process with any saber but best results go with the basic sabers on fan sites
@Solarstar10 They're actually cheaper than the nice ones you can get at the store, those are $150 compared to the $80 or so for the ones they used here. As far as "working" metal sabers go, these are as cheap as it gets.
I absolutely love the positive attitude of this show. I often struggle with inspiration and comparing myself to others that have a lot more experience with crafting, and will end up scrapping a project because I think I can't do it. The whole episode was great, but I loved Marcus's little tips on how to be creative and fix mistakes, so I can still make something I'll be happy with.
Bruh this whole series is awesome! It is like a blacksmith master and apprentice show I watch, but for the more crafts/fabrication minded people! The whole dynamic between them is cool too. Love it.
+The Creative Chemist The blacksmithing series is not exactly like this, but the premise is similar. The blacksmithing show I watch is on the History Channel, and it is called Forged in Fire. I am not sure when it starts back up, but it usually airs on Tuesdays, I think it was. They have three rounds, usually four contestants, and they compete to forge a weapon in 3 or 4 hours, depending on the difficulty of the weapon or circumstance/building material, which is randomized, along with the building technique, then one will be eliminated, then they move on to the second round. In this round, they can fix any mistakes on the blade, and they have 3 hours to put a handle on, sharpen, and basically fit and finish the knife. After this round, the three contestants watch the judges test their knives in several tests, testing blade strength, sharpness, and edge retention. One will be eliminated, and the other two move on to round three, where they are given an historical weapon they must forge, in 5 days, at their home forge, and then they return and test the weapon. The specific episode I was referencing the show for in relation to this series, Master and Apprentice, was an episode where they had "tagteams" of a master blacksmith and his apprentice. The rounds worked the same, but every 30 minutes, the master would pass the work on the the apprentice, and they'd rotate. It is an excellent show, and the judges are pretty funny. I hope you enjoy it, if you find it. It is usually On Demand for most services, but I am not sure where you are or if it will be available. I hope it is, because it is good.
@@AMarshmallowPie That is nothing like this. You got me interested in a new youtube channel, instead you are talking about an american drama competition that doesnt have anything about a master instructing an apprentice in it.
Well you could proabably use strip leds inside of a trasparent opaque tube of somesort that's hooked up to a switch and battery if you want to make your own. It all depends on your budget imo
theonlycatonice Unless you get pricy versions, LED string ades have a tendency to burn out and leave dead spots in the light. The majority of the duel-ready hilts use a set of 3 or more colored LEDs in the hilt.
Easily the most encouraging "build your own lightsaber" video out there. AND it's nice to know I don't have to drop a hefty chunk of change to have a cool looking/custom saber.
It is not as hard as it seems, to make a decent one. One that they make though, is pretty high quality stuff. I made a good one out of an old 90's vacuum cleaner steel nozzle. It was really nice. With some electrical or hockey tape, some sort of metal tube or pvc pipe, some paint, maybe some hose clamps, and some time, you can make a pretty cool one.
same. I'm looking to make one of my own once I've got all the tools and materials to use. I've already salvaged some parts form some old broken phones and a laptop
This is my favorite series ever. I have always wanted to be able to do stuff of this level but have always been afraid because I don't know where to start with most of my ideas. You guys give me confidence in myself with a project like this. One thing I wish you guys would do is maybe do projects with stuff that a lot of people have. Not everybody has a bandsaw or all the gadgets you have at your disposal, so a nice at home workaround would be really appreciated
Rooster Teeth, thank you for this series, this is so helpful! As someone who is doing film at uni, and not having the option of a module focused completely on set design, and art design and props, this is so helpful. It actually gives me hope that I can do something like this in the film world.
I comment approximately once every ten years but I gotta come out of the woodworks to say that, damn, this show is awesome. Everything Marcus does in the company is an absolute treat, and seeing him work with someone who is less experienced but still creates a great result is inspiring to witness.
At first it started off like "okay so you have your store bought sabers" and im like okay I could do this then it just goes to "and now you have a fully built lightsbaber"
I am in awe by how these turned out. Normally, in a show like this, I LOVE how one turned out and absolutely HATE the other but this time, both of these are amazing. I think I like the Jedi one a scooch more but not NEARLY by as much as I should cause I'm light side through and through. Seriously, I want the Jedi one for myself but the other one... Honestly just watching you guys make a lightsaber is so cool; if you ever run out of ideas for builds make a part two with two more lightsabers (one dark one light)
This is an alternative to buying one, just in case you can't afford those. I couldn't afford them, so I had to improvise. You can get one from there, and they are pretty cool. Anything cylindrical can be used, really.
If you want to build your own base from scratch, The Custom Saber Shop is a good resource, though it may end up being a bit more complicated to end up with a fully working lightsaber. If you really don't care what the base lightsaber initially looks like, Ultrasabers has a mystery box option and a grab bag option, both of which give you a random metal hilt for around $70-$80 USD + shipping.
That is my only complaint about this video, is them not calling out that they used Ultrasabers as the base and instead just referred to them as off-the-shelf lightsabers.
Michael Gavin M I think them not specifically naming the brand name was on purpose. That way who ever was watching, had to be creative and find their own “off the shelf saber” from where ever they chose and not just copy off of them.
This is the first episode of this series I've watched and it was really cool. Not sure why I wasn't that interested before but I definitely want to check out the other ones since this was so fun to watch. Those lightsaber designs were great!
You don't NEED to be a Force user to be able to wield a lightsaber (it helps of course). He just lacks the combat skills, which makes a lightsaber extremely dangerous to himself.
No, you don't NEED the Force to pick it up and swing it around, but a non-Force user is just asking to get hurt if trying to use a lightsaber without training. And even then, they'll never master the weapon and be able to to use it to its fullest potential without the Force to help lower the negative aspects of the lightsaber. Having a sword that can cut through almost anything from any angle with little to no resistance is not something normal people should be swinging around, in all seriousness. Also with a weightless blade, you can't physically feel were the blade is, so one wrong move and you can lop off your own body parts. But with the Force, you don't need your physical senses to know what's going on around you.

God, the thing that is amazing about lightsabers is it literally cauterizes the wound right after you cut someone, leaving no trace of blood and actually keeps them alive to stop blood loss, so really a medic could use a lightsaber and cauterize a wound someone had
Excellent showcase of techniques anyone can learn and use. I'm making some light sabers. A white light tonfa for myself and red sith saber for my step father's collection.

This has got to be the best new series RT has put out in a long time. Well done!
Heeh... Your last video inspired me to build my own lightsaber and BAM! You guys make a video about it. Love the show. It is so inspiring.
This is quickly becoming one of my favourite shows!
I love the jedi style lightsaber and the sith style lightsaber really gives off a cold sinister feel
Ok so il be perfectly honest. when you guys are drawing the sketch for the build it looks amazing !
God, the thing that is amazing about lightsabers is it literally cauterizes the wound right after you cut someone, leaving no trace of blood and actually keeps them alive to stop blood loss, so really a medic could use a lightsaber and cauterize a wound someone had
MORE OF THIS PLEASE!!
excellent series!
Excellent showcase of techniques anyone can learn and use. I'm making some light sabers. A white light tonfa for myself and red sith saber for my step father's collection.
