The entire concept of Rex Viper is weird to begin with. They aren't even an "80s-band", because most of the game music they cover is from the 90s, but they mash it up with 80s songs anyway. It’s like no one in Rex Viper has ever seen a professional band play, set up, or sound check in their lives. So many bands out there bust their asses to create their own music, hone their craft, and sound great. Many of these bands play little clubs, then Rex Viper buys their way onto a convention spot and get more (in)famous.
Oh Dear God, I thought Rex Viper was done , yet here we are. Josh is pretty much spot on with the analysis here. As a rapper i've never had an "announcer" but I've had a hype man. When you start the show with "alright nerds, are you rocking to rock?!?" that's already a bad omen. The lead singer isn't bad, I think in the studio he'd be fine, but he sings outside his range live. The big problem is these dudes don't vibe together. You can tell they only talk and jam out via Skype or Zoom, rather than in person.
It's just not an organic thing to me. I would have liked to see James to do a music project with "behind the couch guitar guy" Kyle Justin. At least Kyle could play and sing.
19:05 I also thought the "rising up to the challenge of the Game Boy" was super cringy too. However I just checked the footage and it is still in there at 32:51. I'm guessing you only listened to the beginning of the song. They don't say the Game Boy line until a couple minutes in. Can't say I really blame you for not listening to all of it though! lol
As a guitarist who is in a band myself (I've played one show that went excellent so far but the other guys are older with a lot of live experience) I can say confidently that rex viper needs some serious help and a whole lot of practice as a band. It's like a reverse super group where you took all the worst members of bands and made it into a separate band. They need to work on stage prescience after they get the music tight because I had more movement on stage and it was my first one. That and like you said they need to tune down to lower the key so singer can hit the notes. There's no shame in doing it, a lot of those 80s bands they're covering tune down now because the singers are a lot older and physically can't hit the notes anymore. There's no shame in doing that every singer has a range they can comfortably sing in and that's just how it is, some have a multi octave range but that's a whole different discussion. My opinion is if they aren't gonna put the effort and time in to play tight and accurately together live they should just be a studio band and release music online so that way you have all the edits and pitch correction at your disposal so it sounds good.
@@Englebert3rd yeah they were only around for a lil bit. I knew of them because the drummer was in Hella. I think they just played regular shows, I don’t remember them playing at like…gaming conventions. I saw them live a couple times they were SO TIGHT and barely any distortion on the guitars to cover up mistakes.
Thanks for the vid. Do you know when you shoot the soldiers in the original and they would sometimes lean forward and take a few more shots... Well, they would just shoot forward rather than at you. I hope they've changed that, to make it a little bit more realistic/challenging. They look daft just shooting straight forward.
I've only just noticed the lead guitarists guitar is strung upside down (it looks like its actually a right handed guitar he's just flipped to play lefty but left it strung righty)...
I wish Cinemassacre was still on good terms with Kyle Justin. Much rather see Kyle play the theme and other songs he's written for AGVN than the randos in rex viper.
You have really good presentation, a great voice and aesthetic and attitude, perfect for reviews. I GAF about Rex Viper's sh*tshow, and you give the best run down of their shows. That's why I am subscribed. Question, Why are they performing in front of a "The Water Tower" banner? Couldn't manage to make a Rex Viper display?
Great video, everything I wished for. Respecting the artform is the biggest thing here or rather the lack of respect. But somehow I can’t be mad at those guys. I don’t personally just care.
8:14 Well Nine Inch Nails is the composer of Quake so he is wearing appropriate clothes for the mood. And unlike movie soundtracks that are credited to Trent Reznor, Quake OST comes between The Downward Spiral and The Fragile. Trent Reznor, Michael Jackson, David Bowie,Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo,Stewart Copeland of The Police and Brain May of Queen are all video game composers.
Well, that's a stretch. "The Downward Spiral" was already a gritty, dark album unlike their TVT stuff and your point about the release is irrelevant: Nine Inch Nails was always a Reznor project and he started using his own name for solo works only recently. The soundtrack of "Quake" is credited to "Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails", they weren't a group like Ministry or White Zombie, NIN was always about Trent. Michael Jackson and Brian May were not "video game composers", they were musicians who composed for one game each... ironically, both remained practically unreleased at the time. "The Eye" was a Queen game and had no new material but alternate mixes of Queen songs. Bowie composed one VG soundtrack, had one interactive software and an Internet provider. Bowie was much more of an actor in these releases (and businessman on bowie net). Mark is indeed a composer for video games but Mark is a composer for pretty much everything in entertainment... but that's besides the point.
14:30 - FYI: Like the Berenstain/Berenstein fiasco, "Stickerbrush Symphony" is actually a Mandela misnomer. It should be read and spelled as "Stickerbush Symphony." The reason why people use that said misnomer [Stickerbrush] is because whoever was in charge of ripping and tagging the SNES sound codes from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest to .SPC files for online listening and preservation purposes didn't pay close attention to the track listing on the back cover of the game's official OST album [Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest The Original Donkey Kong Country2 Soundtrack] during metadata creation to proofread any spelling & grammar mistakes before finalization. Otherwise, good video. 👍

The big problem is these dudes don't vibe together. You can tell they only talk and jam out via Skype or Zoom, rather than in person.
It's just not an organic thing to me. I would have liked to see James to do a music project with "behind the couch guitar guy" Kyle Justin. At least Kyle could play and sing.
yep, you get it lol
Customers just left, store is empty and this popped up in my feed. Heck yeah!
19:05 I also thought the "rising up to the challenge of the Game Boy" was super cringy too. However I just checked the footage and it is still in there at 32:51. I'm guessing you only listened to the beginning of the song. They don't say the Game Boy line until a couple minutes in. Can't say I really blame you for not listening to all of it though! lol
ahh bummer.. i guess i couldn't bring myself to trult listen to the entire thing :,(
@@DancingwithGhosts Yeah, the format of all their songs is that the first chorus is the original lyrics, and then they change it on the second time
As a guitarist who is in a band myself (I've played one show that went excellent so far but the other guys are older with a lot of live experience) I can say confidently that rex viper needs some serious help and a whole lot of practice as a band.
I laughed so fucking hard when DwG did the play by play of James “mighty” jump off the slight step. Omg, thank you for that.
9:30 nice one :)
The band The Advantage has a cover of the Moon song from Duck Tales that is actually good
The Advantage are an underrated band
@@Englebert3rd yeah they were only around for a lil bit. I knew of them because the drummer was in Hella. I think they just played regular shows, I don’t remember them playing at like…gaming conventions. I saw them live a couple times they were SO TIGHT and barely any distortion on the guitars to cover up mistakes.
Yeah
Thanks for the vid. Do you know when you shoot the soldiers in the original and they would sometimes lean forward and take a few more shots... Well, they would just shoot forward rather than at you. I hope they've changed that, to make it a little bit more realistic/challenging. They look daft just shooting straight forward.
Christmas has come early!
I've only just noticed the lead guitarists guitar is strung upside down (it looks like its actually a right handed guitar he's just flipped to play lefty but left it strung righty)...
WET DIAPER FOREVER!!
Rex Viper is one of those things that reminds me that self awareness is very important.
I wish Cinemassacre was still on good terms with Kyle Justin. Much rather see Kyle play the theme and other songs he's written for AGVN than the randos in rex viper.
8:08 the lead singer could've wear like a Playstation or a Super Mario shirt just to fit the aesthetic. Just saying.
The keyboards really helped. I’d love to jam with Dino.
Great video, everything I wished for. Respecting the artform is the biggest thing here or rather the lack of respect. But somehow I can’t be mad at those guys. I don’t personally just care.
That keyboardist is way too good for this band haha
yeah he's slightly too good for this band, he still definitely had his mess ups
#bigDinoFan
Bramble Blast is the name of the level. Stickerbrush Symphony is the name of the song. Burning Idol is the cover band you're thinking of
shit my bad, that's right!
Stewart Copeland wrote such a unique soundtrack for the original spyro.
Still weird to wear another bands logo while performing live. It's not like they're playing at their high school's talent show.
It’s most definitely Avant-garde
I need Rex Viper to stay together forever so I can keep watching these vids.
Many concert going cherries were popped that day
7:15 But is it not fitting that They perform in a Place that looks oldish like from the 80s?
Plenty of tough 80's wood.
maybe not Soviet 80's though
@@DancingwithGhosts In Soviet Russia wood drill you!
