My Persian friend makes the rice and potato dish and I’ve asked her so many times for the recipe , but her English is not that great so I had a hard time, but now I see how it’s made. Thank you!
Wow super impresssed you make Persian food!! My husband is Persian so I learned to make choresh for Friday night every few weeks. Your sabzi is missing a few ingredients you need chopped up fresh leek (sautéed with onions at beginning) fresh dill, dried funagreek, dried mint, and some lemon juice cause Persians like it lemony.
@@notmyforte2560 so true I even make zucchini tahdig as an effort to get my husband to stop eating so many carbs, but alas the average Iranian man is not impressed with tahdig e kadu lol
Great video! Great that I found an interesting recipe for polo. My husband would love it. Thank you for your sweet kids showing in the video as well. They are very handsome, especially the little one is yummy.
Sonya, SO MUCH WORK! And still, you seem to have such a professional hand - even at creating masterpieces like these! Incredible job! Very impressive dishes
@@SonyasPrep I'm happy to hear that. I HOPE you continue! Truly, I enjoy watching your videos so much. And thank you - it's actually something I try to do purposely - anytime I comment on anything, I try giving as detailed + focused feedback as possible
Hi Sonya! I absolutely love watching your videos... I learn so much from them so thanks so much for sharing them! I wanted to know if you can make a video with recipes of your favorite (most delicious and most easiest) shabbat salads? I know you've posted some videos that have some of that content, but if there are any more in your repertoire I'd love to learn them! Would be so appreciated. Keep up the amazing work!
Hi! I’m always leaning and developing new recipes and will share with you in my videos. I’m so happy to know that you are enjoying the videos 🙏. Tysm❤️. New Shabbat meal prep video with salads will be posted next week 🤗.
Planning to watch all your vids from start to the finish x so many gorgeous recipes and find it so relaxing your amazing wife mom and working and you put so much love into your food can't wait to try some recipes x
hi i love UR video's i am Persian i tell U London broil is for shish kabab U need shank or beef stew for Ghorme sabzi .also the herbs R leek, parsley & fungerik .Turmeric has to be in bottom of potatoes
Or cheese cloth or a thin towel can be used. The purpose is to lock in the steam by placing a lid on to make it air tight. No steam would escape. She had already boiled the rice, therefore, defeating the purpose. Basmati rice is cooked in steam for the last 15-20 minutes depending on where the basmati rice come from. In this case, there was no reason to steam unless the rice was half cooked.
Hi Sonya, I'm Persian and you made both of these dishes beautifully!!!! The potato tahdig looked amazing!!! You did it all like a pro, it reminded me of my mom's cooking. Love your channel!
Hey Sonya ❤️ I have been a fan of your channel for a while. I'm a Baha'i Persian mom and admire you so much. You're a great mom amd wife and a have such beautiful soul. As always I loved the video. You pronounce the name of the dishes like a Persian speaker 😀 By the way, a tip, if you fry the greens of ghormesabzi before mixing them with the other ingredients, it will have a stronger taste and color. In traditional method they fry them in a lot of oil and for long time but I personally prefer to fry them with a little bit of oil and for shorter time to make it more healthy. Bon appetit dear ❤️❤️❤️
You use a lot of greens in your recipes I have noticed, I see, bought from the supermarket, have you thought about supplementing them with hydroponic (window pots)? You could grow them inside, it's a really cheap and fun project for the kids and no dirt! (Even if you have a black thumb). The same goes for making scallions/chives (just old garlic cloves/onion bottoms that have started to sprout, you can grow them the same way. (I rarely buy herbs anymore, just use from the window or buy dorot frozen herb cubes as backup (the geffen ones add lemon) Another option - And/or , get a kit like Hamama that's more for microgreens (they are so yummy and you can even keep it in your pantry - plus I think they have an affiliate program so it would be a good thing for your channel).
Thank You, Thank You got sharing all your wonderful ness! Shabbat Shabbaton as all these of our amazing holidays are shared this weekend!!!! 🇮🇱🇺🇸🇮🇱🇺🇸🇮🇱🇺🇸🇮🇱🇺🇸
Are you Iranian-Jewish? You do look it : )). I've made this Persian rice dish before. Mine turned out ok, for the first time. I know they also use a lot of saffron and yogurt as well and I bought some threads when I made the dish before. Interesting, dish with the potatoes at the bottom. As a European, we have pilaf and rice and potatoes don't mix, but these oriental recipes are totally unique.
In Persian the rice dish is called Bahgali Polo. My husband prefers it without potatoes on the bottom becauseas a Persian he never can get enough tahdig 😄. The stew is Ghorme Sabzi. It is very delicious. I do use the Sadaf brand dried herbs specifically for this stew. I soak them in water for about 30 minutes to rehydrate them then I sauté them with the meat for a few minutes before adding water to the pot. I add chopped fresh baby spinach to the stew about 30 minutes before serving it. The spinach gives the greens almost a creamy texture.
Would have been better to dry your meat, season it, and then fry the chunks to allow for caramelization. Then add onions to the meat drippings in the pan. More flavor like that. Would use beef broth instead of water also for more flavlr
i loved the dishes until you added butter to the rice when you will be eating it with meat!! thats a shabbat meal isnt it?! or is that butter non dairy?
Because greens are usually infested with small bugs I try to wash with soapy water to get it out. The soap is washed away with water obviously before eating so you don’t taste anything…. Hope this explains it.
@@SonyasPrep I completely understand the bugs, I use a lot of cilantro when cooking 😅. Fruit and veggies are porous so chemical residues (whether it be from soap or from pesticides during the growth process) can be left inside those pores even after rinsing 🙈 I normally wash off all the sand on the roots under the tap and then soak the greens in salty water or add vinegar to the water, just a different method but slightly safer! Love your content 😊

OMG YOUR TAHDIG (crispy potato bottom) IS PROFESSIONAL LEVEL.

@@anniebell6846 Honestly, tahdig can be rice, potato, bread, I've even seen lettuce :) as long as its the bottom of a pot of rice lol

It’s a Persian stew

Use fresh herbs and dried hebs. This provides the best taste and this also very traditional in making this dish.
