When I started playing guitar, I literally thought Syn was the best metal guitarist of all time. Then I started to listen to other metal guitarists and thought Syn was just overrated. Then I started to understand music theory and grow mature and thought he really was one of the best. Not only all of his solos are memorable (which is a sign that he writes great solos), he is also really fluent in music theory, and a fluent jazz player. You can check him out in one (or two) of Rick Beato's videos.
Every time I heard that open E, I kept thinking "Cliffs of Dover?" like he's Eric Johnson lol. But Synyster Gates is so amazing at guitar, I feel like he'd play amazingly over some classical backing tracks.
it has slight simularities but nope. just the scale along with the note resolution he did just sounded slightly like knights of cydonia but not really like it. still love the song though
+Ivan Henrique Well, while it's absolutely not the same chords or rythm, somehow the end of Burried Alive reminds me some songs of Metallica, especially the end of "One"
He's one of the best. He writes solos that are memorable. Not just fucktons of notes (except when he is improvising). I mean as fast as Afterlife solo goes, he still managed to make that solo memorable somehow.
lol okay fucking nightmare is a tribute to jimmy, and hail to the king is the fucking sun rising on how good this band is about to get. Everything about this band is getting 100% better, especially since they're going back to playing old songs live
SidOsiris I want the band to play more of their back catalog live too, but you're saying that the band is getting better because they're playing old songs live? I don't think playing 9-11 year old songs entails them "getting" better... Although I would personally much rather hear all of "Waking the Fallen" and "City of Evil" more than anything from the self-titled on. They've been stale for a few years now. "Nightmare" being a tribute has NOTHING to do with the musical content on the album. It was a nice nod at the time, but in hindsight, it just doesn't capture the same things that their earlier records did. This band changed in 2007. Some would argue for the better... some for the worse. I'm on the worse side. They've been holding themselves back for three records now, whether they know it or not. The music they made in their early 20's is much more exciting, musically impressive, and original than the music they made post "City of Evil."
lol watch syn's guitar center video and tell me he's not better then just about 99% of people playing guitar. They're getting so much better live and this next album that they'll make is going to be good even if they fucking wrote nursey rhymes.Lol nightmare had probably the best solo's they wrote, save me, buried alive and the song fiction is better then any bullshit metal song
SidOsiris The thing is, what he played at the Guitar Center video doesn't accurately represent the material he's been writing with Avenged lately. Yeah, he might be personally improving at guitar, but it doesn't mean the band is collectively getting up at that level. His more interesting leads were in "City of Evil," where he would add leads all throughout the songs, along with multiple solos and stand out melodic hooks. On the last few records, he's essentially been a rhythm player who takes a solo per song. Not saying that EVERY song features Gates in that light, but more of them than less. Even Zacky was a more interesting player on "Waking the Fallen" and "City of Evil." They had him play some leads on Waking too. Also, I'm not comparing Avenged to any other band here. I'm comparing them to themselves. Their music hasn't been up to par lately. Gates didn't have a single guitar part (eh, maybe "Coming Home") on the new record that reflects the ability he showed at his Master Class. I'm hoping they knock the slow-riff, arena rock nonsense off and get back to their progressive and adventurous roots.
Synyster Gates is the best metal guitar player of this generation!! Hands down.
+mike Cloyd yes, that's great
Love me some Gates bro, but Jeff Loomis is lightyears ahead
Don't be so close minded. lol
There are people light years ahead of loomis too ha
Like??

makes sense. Yeah, his solo is memorable and sounds really unique and melodious even if it's like shredding

What scale does syn use in his solo? It sounds pretty cool
***** Minor Harmonic, cromatics, blues scale and many arpeggios
A combination of so many, absolute beast on guitar. But mostly Harmonic Minor, Aeolian and lot of chromatics.
+Saket S a little bit half diminished arpeggio , many scales with alternate picking , economy picking
Rahadyan Puspa Kumala
Specialises a lot lot lot on sweep picking.
more economy picking than anything
What pissed me off is that they were clapping during the buried alive intro
Alguien que me pueda Decir si el ultimo toque que hace syn es alguna cancion Porfavor!ت

What is the solo that starts at 0:53??
burried alive, just before the "metallica-like" final part :-)
what do you mean by "metallica-like"? does this have something to do with "hit the lights"?
+Ivan Henrique Well, while it's absolutely not the same chords or rythm, somehow the end of Burried Alive reminds me some songs of Metallica, especially the end of "One"
cho7kipu when syn and arin was "battling", it sounded pretty much like the intro of "hit the lights". but the tempo was the difference
Buried alive
7:08 what a song?
I think it was improvised...
Something like master of puppets but if you listen to song "Stage" there are some parts what he is playing
All of you were wrong
It's part of the Hail to the King solo, but improvised
@@youreadopted3960
This is something he always did as part of his live solo. Well before hail to the king was written.

Kantap Arabic.
Karna Perutmu (Arin ) ,Tidak Suka Kertas Polio .
As good as he is, he's no where near the best. And if you think he is you're either lying to yourself or don't listen to many bands.
+Furious Cheesecake and who are you? I'm simply saying the truth and you clearly don't want to accept it.
@@furiouscheesecake8542 damn that was brutal i love this answer so fucking much🤣🤣🤣
Why does anyone really care about who is the best? They're all awesome otherwise we wouldn't be listening.
There is no best. Moron.
He's one of the best. He writes solos that are memorable. Not just fucktons of notes (except when he is improvising). I mean as fast as Afterlife solo goes, he still managed to make that solo memorable somehow.
Their music is so painfully mundane nowadays...
Yeah, I agree. Ever since the self-titled, they've been so safe and non-adventurous.
