No it's horrible. All props for the playing part, but just no. The melodica version sounds like a shitty arcade version of the original Jupiter, because half of what makes it Jupiter is the orchestration.
It's funny, even in this version the movement at 1:30 makes me tear up. In high school Every time we warmed up in band before a show/ concert/ Marching half time, we played that movement. It's such an amazing composition. Holst is amazing.
so much yes!!!! but I kind of want to hear the fourth movement. if you can make me cry, I was going to say that I'll subscribe, but I've already done that...
I think I just about died at 1:56 where he does pretend hand vibrato as if he was playing a heartrending cello solo. It's a melodica; that makes absolutely no difference! 😂 A+ to you guys for tackling such a challenging piece of music and then proceeding to goof off the whole time! 😆
At 0:42 I started conducting with my hand out of habit, like I always do when I listen to the Planets, then I realized they were doing it too! Absolutely outstanding.
My father had a radio show in the 1960s in New York City about classical music and Holst's 'Jupiter' was the theme music. Having grown up with Jupiter, I think I get most of the nuance of it. I think your duo has captured practically every nuance of it known to me. Thanks.
The rhythmic tension is so excellent! There's nothing I don't love about this. I have played this several times from the cello section and I just adore hearing how you manage some of the orchestration with what I'm assuming is tonguing on the melodica. And I'm adding another 5000 points for the Tchaik 6 project.
I once went to a symphony where at the very end of the performance but before the room erutped into a roaring applause someone shouted, "Holy Crap!!!". This performance was even more impressive than that! When the video ended, those were the same two words that came from me as there was nothing else I could say! Amazing job guys. Simply amazing!
Damn! Fabulous! I was smiling and nodding my head through the whole thing. I have listening to every version of Jupiter I can find weather it be orchestra, sax ensemble, percussion ensemble, piano, guitars and you guys are up there. I love what you did. Nice touch in the chorale section changing instruments. I'm going to listen to it again right now.
Your guys' energy for classical music reminds me of my own passion- my friend and I can whistle all of Dvorak 9 and many other pieces together... it's so great to see you guys play. Would love to hear more of Holst's planets-- I just love your arrangements!!

I have just subrscribed to your channel, I am blown away by what you can do with melodicas. Utterly flawless and so enjoyable, some really complex pieces too, perfectly executed.
Very well done, I enjoyed this greatly! But if you really want to knock my socks off... do a rendition of Mars, The Bringer of War by Holst. Then I will be incredibly impressed! Very good stuff nonetheless, all the finest gents!
How I see them: NASA and ESA sitting together in an office meeting and instead of agreeing on making another space project, both of them pulled up their instruments and played this
The fact that these two dudes literally converted one of the best orchestra pieces ever into something played by two melodicas is just amazing.

@@shostakovichistheshit7322 You are saying that the orchestrated version is the original, but the original was actually written for two pianos.
Shostakovich is the shit its good but whatever you say buddy
This is more of a salute to Holst than a travesty.
I love it!!!
1:56 trying to vibrato a keyboard
Not trying, doing.
@@Kjango2002 he means how violinists do that motion on the string for a vibrato, even though it doesnt make a difference on a melodica.
It feels like it makes a difference when you’re playing it
I do the same thing

Tchaik 4...4th movement.
I'm telling you. Holst earned himself a special place in heaven when he wrote Jupiter.

INCREDIBLE. It´s just perfect. Congratulations.
Gustav holst is my favourite classical compositor. The St Paul suite is incredibly beautiful.
Same tho personally I prefer first suite in Eb.
@@hannahreid1549 suit in Eb was the first piece of heard from Holst. It's my absolute favorite!

1. I'm not crying you are
And
2. Where did you get that Holst shirt? 👀
i need that shirt
zazzle.co.uk sell it.
thanks a lot
You're welcome, it is a bit pricey though. Plus you can't tell if the shirt is a quality silk screen or crappy plasticky transfer print.
I got the shirt too lmao. Gotta show some love for holst
i love that holst shirt so much
Thank you - There were like 50 or 60 people that bought that design this September. Just search 'Holst" on Zazzle.

A piece that is notorious for being written for an absolutely massive orchestra-

This is much more than it looks....it can't even imagine what goes on to prep for these videos!!!
Great job guys!
Guys, that is awesome. Thats my favourite piece of classical music.
You can hear how it inspired both Williams and Zimmer directly
Fantastic! “Jupiter” is my favorite Holst planet especially the “hymn” portion beginning @1:30. You guys are truly melodious.
playing this piece is so hard esp at the beginning I felt that and I am vividly impressed by these melodicas

My favorite!!! By the way, the melodica totally makes it sound like a sea shanty at 0:43.
It reminds me of a medieval drinking party

That was the most talent I have ever seen used to play one instrument and multiple parts in my life. Bravo

Damn, talk about musical geniuses.
The tune is actually called "Thaxted". The hymn was a later adaptation that Holst was not so proud of for various reasons
